Melissa Deally:

Welcome back to another episode of health hacks as I continue reviewing the year of 2024 and I did a whole segment on hydration, starting at Episode 379 and so today is just a quick recap of that. In those episodes, I talked about how hydration improves cognitive function and move and mood, sorry. It increases energy and improves sleep. It helps your body to detox and for you to have healthy healthy skin as well as supporting joint lubrication and muscle function. It helps with temperature regulation and eye health, digestive health and nutrient absorption, and that's only half of the episodes that I went through. There is so much benefit to ensuring that your body is fully hydrated. And the best way to start that is to start every day with a glass of water. You can add the juice of half a lemon or lime to it for some electrolytes, you can add in some apple cider vinegar and some sprinkle of cayenne pepper as well, if you're going to be eating breakfast soon and you want to turn digestion on ahead of time. The point is, you want to start your day with water, not coffee, not any other caffeinated beverage, because you've been asleep for hopefully seven to eight hours, and during that time, your bodies become dehydrated, and so starting your day with really good hydration is important. Herbal teas are also considered a hydration versus, you know, sugary drinks, coffee drinks, even juices, are high in natural sugars, and we don't want to be starting our day with those herbal teas. Water are really great options, and room temperature or warmer is easier for the body to absorb and therefore more hydrating for the body. So that is a great starting point in any health journey, most people do not hydrate enough, and that negatively impacts the many different areas that I talked about, starting in episode 379 so go back and listen to those just binge on them. They're all super short, as well as allowing your body to be able to move well, your brain is largely made up of water, and it needs to be hydrated, otherwise you can end up with headaches. Think of, you know, a prune, and then all of the water has been sucked out of it, and it's all squished down like an like an apricot, right? Or any kind of beef jerky, and the jerky, it's just all dried out your body can get like that when you don't hydrate enough. And so keeping hydrated is a very easy way to start your health journey for all of the benefits that it has, if you can only change one thing right now, start by drinking herbal tea or water that's infused with lemon juice or some cucumber to get electrolytes and a little bit of flavoring to start your day. And just notice how, as you do that, that alone helps to shift how you feel, physically, mentally, emotionally, and how powerful that is. Now you do want to make sure it's good quality water. So it may not be tap water that you're drinking. You're going to be wanting to have filtered water, depending on the quality of the water that comes into your house from your municipal water source. So enjoy episodes 379, onwards for the course of that month, and enjoy the benefits of staying hydrated.
