Trey Gerrald:Like it's always right here on my hands and I have to like overload on allergy medicine

Chelsey Donn:If I'm sitting on a chair, it's a wood chair.
Chelsey Donn:Like I'm very methodical about it, but even just whatever is in the air, it gets, I

Chelsey Donn:the cats are a big fan of mine.

Chelsey Donn:Like I found out that I was allergic to cats because I was staying at a
Chelsey Donn:And then, then I almost died.
Chelsey Donn:Cause I was like really in the cat space.
Chelsey Donn:So it sucks like cats, like one to come to me.
Chelsey Donn:Cause they think I'm playing hard to get.
Chelsey Donn:And I'm like, this isn't a game.
Chelsey Donn:This is like, Anyway,

Trey Gerrald:I had gotten all the way.

Trey Gerrald:So the very end we had just concluded the Royal Highness and my laptop.
Trey Gerrald:I keep it plugged in all the time.
Trey Gerrald:Cause I work at an actual desk.
Trey Gerrald:So the minute it's unplugged, there's like a 12 minute shelf life before the battery just dies.
Trey Gerrald:Cause I've destroyed it.
Trey Gerrald:Well, it fell out and I was like, I don't I'm too lazy.
Trey Gerrald:Like I just want to hurry.
Trey Gerrald:You know, I was like, I bet I had forgotten.
Trey Gerrald:We had a Royal Review That episode.
Trey Gerrald:So I was like, I'm nearly done.
Trey Gerrald:Pounds through this.
Trey Gerrald:It'll be great.
Trey Gerrald:And then of course I forgot and my computer literally died and I was like, Oh Oh, no,
Trey Gerrald:I was like, don't forget.
Trey Gerrald:It's it's going to be like it, like auto saves.

Trey Gerrald:So then I plugged my computer back end and it was like the dead kind,
Trey Gerrald:And then there was like dash dash, dash, dash, dash dash uploading.
Trey Gerrald:And it fully uploaded.
Trey Gerrald:I tried to open it and it was like this closed without being saved.
Trey Gerrald:Would you like to open from a snapshot?
Trey Gerrald:And I was like, yes.
Trey Gerrald:And then it was like error opening 4 0 4, negative six.
Trey Gerrald:And I was

Trey Gerrald:I literally lost the entire episode and I had to start completely from scratch, which was fine.
Trey Gerrald:I love, I love spending that much time with our voices.

Chelsey Donn:So I was, let's just say doing some perusing and they came across this review by James.
Chelsey Donn:Cause you know, we love the name James, on this podcast.

Chelsey Donn:James P as in Paul, This is James one-star review of a restaurant here in LA in
Trey Gerrald:Yeah.
Chelsey Donn:Planta, which I think means like the good plant would be my
Chelsey Donn:This is a one-star review of Dwayne Atlanta.
Trey Gerrald:Okay.
Chelsey Donn:I wanted to love the hell out of this plant based eatery.
Chelsey Donn:I was absolutely misled by their plant based claims.
Chelsey Donn:Plant based eateries are popping up all over, and this place is masquerading
Chelsey Donn:Call what it is, plant forward, eggs and lactose in the back.
Chelsey Donn:We arrived and were very excited.
Chelsey Donn:The place was beautiful.
Chelsey Donn:The staff seemed friendly.
Chelsey Donn:The drinks were great.
Chelsey Donn:The menu looks so great.
Chelsey Donn:Super excited for a new plant-based restaurant.
Chelsey Donn:We ordered so excited.
Chelsey Donn:It was our first date night and months after accidentally overhearing a
Chelsey Donn:I panic.
Trey Gerrald:yeah.
Chelsey Donn:why didn't anyone tell us that?
Chelsey Donn:Was he wrong?
Chelsey Donn:It's vegan, right?
Chelsey Donn:I mean, they are plant based after all we had just ordered and I was already eating the guacamole.
Chelsey Donn:I was dying inside O M G.
Chelsey Donn:The guacamole is in vegan.
Chelsey Donn:With cohesive cheese and not the vegan spoof kind.
Chelsey Donn:You might find at actual vegan plant-based restaurants, real cheese in all my years.
Chelsey Donn:I've never hoped there would be cheese or any sort on my guac.
Chelsey Donn:Am I alone here?
Chelsey Donn:Every plant-based restaurant in LA crossroads, gracias Madre, veggie grill,
Chelsey Donn:A few has started calling things.
Chelsey Donn:What they are better known as in their normal.
Chelsey Donn:chicken.
Chelsey Donn:Isn't chicken, beef isn't beef.
Chelsey Donn:And she is isn't really cheese.
Chelsey Donn:Well, I, this self-proclaimed plant-based eatery.
Chelsey Donn:There is not only cheese in many dishes.
Chelsey Donn:There is also egg being used flagrant.
Chelsey Donn:Then try to make so many efforts to be plant-based expensive.
Chelsey Donn:P can chorizo the vegan.
Chelsey Donn:Fundido impossible, vegan nachos, et cetera, but they are really just hijacking the word.
Chelsey Donn:This is a gluten-free vegetarian restaurant.
Chelsey Donn:It is not plant-based and cow POS are not plant.
Chelsey Donn:I know they could edit the menu and be 100% vegan and claim steak among Les best
Chelsey Donn:We immediately modified our order with our server after realizing the
Chelsey Donn:And then the Caesar salad was served to us with cheese, not okay.
Chelsey Donn:They took that off our seat only to then charge us the same price for the one without cheese.
Chelsey Donn:We had a lengthy convo with the server about the restaurant being misleading to which we were told
Chelsey Donn:Okay, maybe I'm too sensitive.
Chelsey Donn:This was going to be a four-star review initially, but the one-star comes because
Chelsey Donn:yes.
Chelsey Donn:The depths of deceit continue to grow.
Chelsey Donn:Despite the menu that I really inspected after the initial mistake,
Chelsey Donn:My cemented mistrust for this place led me to confirm with the server are the churros that we
Chelsey Donn:Vegan as stated in the menu, she was taken aback, unsure.
Chelsey Donn:She quickly disappeared to the kitchen only to reappear moments later sitting
Chelsey Donn:There was ag in them now they just weren't working well without the egg update, the menu J F C.
Chelsey Donn:This is absolutely no.
Chelsey Donn:Okay.
Chelsey Donn:You can't write vegan on the menu and include eggs.
Chelsey Donn:This place is great.
Chelsey Donn:If you want a vegetarian.
Chelsey Donn:If you're vegan and got duped into thinking it's, plant-based beware.
Chelsey Donn:They aren't interested in catering to, or being honest with vegans here.
Chelsey Donn:So you best choose another place after seeing numerous complaints?
Chelsey Donn:I'm sorry, I didn't research this place deeply.
Chelsey Donn:The responses from management, the lack of attention to update menus with recipe
Chelsey Donn:They didn't even comp the cheesy guac.
Chelsey Donn:This place is beautiful, but poorly operated and management is out of touch.
Chelsey Donn:Okay.
Chelsey Donn:Just want to know that that James has also included four photos.
Trey Gerrald:Oh,
Chelsey Donn:of them is a reply, but not to their Review!.

Chelsey Donn:It doesn't mean that you are vegetarian or vegan and never eat meat or.
Chelsey Donn:I understand where you're coming from and we're doing better adjusting menus and honing

Chelsey Donn:There's also a copy of the receipt, which shows that like, we were
Chelsey Donn:Also a copy of the menu where it says that the churros are clearly marked vegan and
Trey Gerrald:It literally says Dwayne up Planta as a plant-based Mexican
Chelsey Donn:Yeah, exactly.
Chelsey Donn:Yup.
Chelsey Donn:That's what it says.
Chelsey Donn:So also just like, as a side note, because when I first read the Review!.
Chelsey Donn:right.
Chelsey Donn:I'm not vegan.
Chelsey Donn:So like is plant like plant-based being vegetarian.
Chelsey Donn:Like I was like, struggling with that.
Chelsey Donn:So I wanted to just Google.
Chelsey Donn:What is plant-based like, what is the universal acceptance of plant-based?
Chelsey Donn:And I just want to say laziness upon laziness, the person that responded that I just read,
Chelsey Donn:From Google.
Chelsey Donn:if you go on Google and you Google, what is plant-based and like, you know how that
Trey Gerrald:does that include the sentence that says it doesn't mean you're vegetarian
Chelsey Donn:Yes, I think it does.
Chelsey Donn:Like, I think like literally the whole thing is just like, whoa, it's like, that
Chelsey Donn:But then I just like, again, just to do my due diligence because I knew
Chelsey Donn:I like asked a bunch of friends vegan and non-vegan, I was just like, just pulling the
Chelsey Donn:Would you assume that that is vegetarian vegan?
Chelsey Donn:What would, what would like be the assumption there and across the.
Chelsey Donn:Everybody's had that they would have assumed it was vegan.
Trey Gerrald:Right, because if you're vegan, you don't eat anything derivative of an animal.
Trey Gerrald:So it would have to be a plant.
Chelsey Donn:right.
Chelsey Donn:I was thinking plant-based like, okay, if the base of the item is plant, like, I don't know.
Chelsey Donn:I was just, I was looking for a tactic Haladi because I don't know.
Chelsey Donn:I was trying to figure out if I could just find the restaurant at all here, but I
Chelsey Donn:There are like synonyms,
Trey Gerrald:Okay.
Trey Gerrald:I okay.
Trey Gerrald:I have a lot to say about

Trey Gerrald:It seems like this restaurant is consistently faltering and the responsibility,
Trey Gerrald:This would be one of the best competing with all the major ones in LA.
Trey Gerrald:This could have been really great.
Trey Gerrald:So I appreciate that James is honoring, like, it is great.
Trey Gerrald:They're just like.
Trey Gerrald:To me, I think it's unforgivable.
Trey Gerrald:How can you say you're vegan and not be vegan?
Trey Gerrald:I like, I don't understand how also the most disgusting idea to
Trey Gerrald:What the fuck?

Chelsey Donn:Well, that's the thing that's like, so agregious, to me about this review is like,
Chelsey Donn:Even though it's like common vernacular now that like cheeses and cheese
Chelsey Donn:Excuse that because there was items in the menu that like had a V and had a different, like,
Trey Gerrald:No.
Chelsey Donn:call your restaurant, plant base is crazy.
Chelsey Donn:what?
Chelsey Donn:Like it's insane.
Chelsey Donn:It's criminal.
Chelsey Donn:It's like why there there's, there's zero reason to put cheese in Guam.
Trey Gerrald:No, it's so gross.
Trey Gerrald:Sounding
Chelsey Donn:And especially if it's the Coty Hutchie is like, that's almost like a garnish.
Chelsey Donn:So feels even more unnecessary.
Chelsey Donn:Like throw some pepitas on there.
Chelsey Donn:Like give me like something else.
Chelsey Donn:Like there's like, you can find something else to be a garnish.
Chelsey Donn:If you're going to try and be playing, it's just like so gross.
Chelsey Donn:It just reeks of like, Capitalizing on a market being like we're in Venice.
Chelsey Donn:We want to be a trendy new restaurant.
Chelsey Donn:So we're going to say that we're plant-based and just call yourself a vegetarian restaurant,
Trey Gerrald:but it doesn't make sense to me.
Trey Gerrald:Like you can't masquerade as the word James uses you.
Trey Gerrald:Can't masquerade here because day two of your business being open, people are going to
Trey Gerrald:What they ate at your restaurant, doesn't go with their lifestyle.
Trey Gerrald:I don't understand how they, like it's only going to cause you trouble.
Chelsey Donn:think it's so irresponsible and dangerous.
Chelsey Donn:Like if you're going to do this and call yourself plant base, then you
Chelsey Donn:And you better highlight, like, this doesn't mean that you're vegetarian or whatever upon entry.
Chelsey Donn:And the fact that they had an item on the menu that like was vegan changed to not vegan.
Chelsey Donn:And then they were still not updating the menu to let people know.
Chelsey Donn:And they were just ordering it, thinking, I mean, that is like so gross.
Chelsey Donn:That is like, uh, my buying something under false pretense, like I'm
Chelsey Donn:I'm being told that this restaurant is plant based and then you're
Chelsey Donn:The puss line was a little,

Trey Gerrald:I definitely need to know what Cal pusses I'm also wait to your point previously,
Trey Gerrald:like the most offensive title.
Trey Gerrald:If you're going to be shady.

Chelsey Donn:You should call yourself a vegan friendly restaurant and, and like, you know,
Chelsey Donn:Please be clear because there are a lot of vegan friendly restaurants that I've gone to where
Trey Gerrald:phrase flagrant egg use.
Chelsey Donn:Yes, me too.
Chelsey Donn:Also see, I'm looking at the menu that James posted and what's very interesting.
Chelsey Donn:Speaking of like the weird confusion over, like what is, what, so by the chiro.
Chelsey Donn:It has a capital V in parentheses next to it.
Chelsey Donn:Then by the trace latches, it says the word vegan.
Chelsey Donn:And then by the Mexican flowerless cake, it has a V in parenthesis and an N in parentheses.
Chelsey Donn:What the hell does that mean?
Chelsey Donn:Does it mean the wouldn't V as in parentheses, it means vegetarian and then it's only
Chelsey Donn:Cause that's even more insane.

Trey Gerrald:Wait, I have a, I have like a higher question.
Trey Gerrald:When this restaurant open?
Chelsey Donn:I want to say uh, James does not
Trey Gerrald:it does seem to me like
Chelsey Donn:well, it's, an, James mentioned that it's a new restaurant

Trey Gerrald:'cause I'm curious about that.

Trey Gerrald:I think like, obviously, like the joke that we don't want to walk into is like, how do you know.
Trey Gerrald:someone's vegan?
Trey Gerrald:They're going to tell ya, like that stereotype exists because you have to be Very meticulous
Trey Gerrald:If you're being meticulous about what you're putting in your body.
Trey Gerrald:So how could you masquerade as a restaurant?
Trey Gerrald:That's just like being very careless.
Trey Gerrald:I, I, I think I, I do trust James and the Review!, especially because they go into such
Trey Gerrald:this has the potential.
Trey Gerrald:To compete with crossroads that excellent movie by Britney Spears.
Trey Gerrald:Now also veggie grill.
Trey Gerrald:I love veggie grill.
Trey Gerrald:I wish we had veggie grill's on the east coast and also like James alludes.
Trey Gerrald:After being here, they looked at all these other not so great reviews,
Trey Gerrald:More context here.
Trey Gerrald:More allegiance with James experience that the restaurant has to, like you
Trey Gerrald:Something very wrong here, which is highlighted by the other picture with the vegan versus a V.
Trey Gerrald:I mean, I think this is having a large impact on me.
Trey Gerrald:I I'm not even plant-based, but if I was, I would, this would be like, I mean, does seem criminal.
Trey Gerrald:You can't mess with people's digestion.
Trey Gerrald:Like if someone doesn't eat cheese and then they don't know there's cheese in the Caesar salad
Trey Gerrald:Like that's what, I don't understand the end game
Chelsey Donn:Yeah.
Chelsey Donn:I just think it's all marketing and it's gross.
Chelsey Donn:And even on the receipt itself, like it clearly says plant based, like even on the, like they
Trey Gerrald:It's literally the title.
Trey Gerrald:What's the

Chelsey Donn:We had a few mistakes peppered in there.
Chelsey Donn:Not, I mean, considering how long the Review!.
Chelsey Donn:Not like a ton, but I can't give James a perfect score

Trey Gerrald:I feel like there was humor sprinkled in here, even though, like, I don't
Trey Gerrald:Like I think they need to really be held to task this restaurant, but I appreciated like

Trey Gerrald:I think like the algorithm pushes it to the top.

Trey Gerrald:And I really appreciate it.
Trey Gerrald:Wasn't a full slanderous review to something that I think deserves to be slandered because
Trey Gerrald:You know, I, I want to change I'm going to change it
Chelsey Donn:Mike, a live change on
Trey Gerrald:I do think that it is a Review Queen because even though there were some typos here
Trey Gerrald:You're gonna injure your body.
Trey Gerrald:And there were sprinkled in humor, you know?
Trey Gerrald:It's like, I definitely think it's common.
Trey Gerrald:They referenced the other negative reviews.

Chelsey Donn:I loved that James was so thorough and you know, that I love when we have
Chelsey Donn:Completely slanderous.
Chelsey Donn:Like whenever I read a negative review and they're still complimenting
Chelsey Donn:It makes me believe the reviewer more.
Chelsey Donn:So that was hugely valuable.
Chelsey Donn:I took away a crown for spelling and grammar has gotta be perfect for me.
Chelsey Donn:And a little bit of the lens.
Chelsey Donn:Those were the two things that kept me.
Chelsey Donn:For making this a Review Queen, but I will say like kudos to James
Chelsey Donn:And I hope I really do hope that the people that have owned this restaurant
Chelsey Donn:Just say, you're vegetarian.
Chelsey Donn:Say your vegan-friendly like, that's it.
Chelsey Donn:That's all you have to do.
Chelsey Donn:It is wrong to not have someone high alert when they have dietary restrictions.
Chelsey Donn:I don't like it.
Chelsey Donn:I'm not happy about it.
Chelsey Donn:And I hope that they do something to change it.
Chelsey Donn:And James has made me impassioned about that plea.

James Palmer:I mean, I'm kind of shaking because um, it was definitely intense.

James Palmer:I think you read it pretty, perfectly to how I read it in my head.

Chelsey Donn:Oh, thank
James Palmer:Um, I do think the help is out to get people with the auto-correct and just

Chelsey Donn:That's important.

James Palmer:Like, I know I submitted the Review!
James Palmer:and I don't know when you guys screen captured it, but then I went back the next
Chelsey Donn:Oh, that is very interesting.
James Palmer:now, but yeah, I think that Yelp has definitely shady when it
James Palmer:Yeah.
James Palmer:I mean, it was just, it was really exciting to kind of hear that the things that you've taught.
James Palmer:You know, to be nice, to be respectful, to throw in some humor, to use truth,
James Palmer:It was helpful to me to know that that actually paid off and made for a really good Review!.
James Palmer:I have to say definitely this was at the new location in Silverlake.
James Palmer:first locations, which is where the screen capture is from, but just to be fair, I'm sure
Chelsey Donn:Okay.
James Palmer:I just, they came from my churros and that was really the.
James Palmer:And my partner and I were kind of discussing the churros the whole time.
James Palmer:I'm like those churros, like once we found out it wasn't vegan, I was like,
James Palmer:And he's like, I'm like, I bet they won't be, oh no, they might be.
James Palmer:And we get the menu and see the vegan.
James Palmer:Yes.
James Palmer:Oh my God.
James Palmer:That Euro's.
James Palmer:And then we couldn't have churros.
Chelsey Donn:Oh my God.
James Palmer:are my favorite thing in the world so So what our dessert
Chelsey Donn:Oh,
Chelsey Donn:my
James Palmer:So don't tell me you can't make a vegan chiro.
James Palmer:It can happen.
Chelsey Donn:it can happen.
Chelsey Donn:Lazy.
Trey Gerrald:not come for James's chart.
James Palmer:Do not come from my trust.
James Palmer:I think what all the other reviews, like they almost have as many, one star reviews
James Palmer:And I wrote this review before even seeing that.
James Palmer:So just knowing that there's a huge community in the two weeks of this place has been opened
James Palmer:You can not use the word plant-based plant-based is a diet.
James Palmer:is a lifestyle includes.
James Palmer:we made up the word plant-based plant forward is bullshit.
Chelsey Donn:right.
James Palmer:That's just a marketing term.
James Palmer:And I've been duped before at a restaurant by that, you know, and the problem
James Palmer:They're so thrilled that they found a restaurant that it seems like everyone can eat at.
James Palmer:They have a whole planet forward menu.
James Palmer:Great.
James Palmer:You got there and you can't even eat anything.
James Palmer:It's like, they don't even make an effort to make a vegan dish as part of the plant forward menu.
James Palmer:So.
James Palmer:It's been happening and it just needs to stop.
James Palmer:So I think those of us that are plant-based and like, I really haven't
Chelsey Donn:Yeah, that's upsetting.
Chelsey Donn:Not that it's like, I don't know.
Chelsey Donn:You have to start over from day one or something like that, but like, it's still upsetting.
James Palmer:it's not a.
Chelsey Donn:Right.
Chelsey Donn:Exactly.
Chelsey Donn:That's what I was going to say, but it's still like, you know, you, you committed
Chelsey Donn:And I think it's really shady and I hope that reviewers like you, and
Chelsey Donn:into the hat.
Chelsey Donn:I, I hope that they really do change because it's still early days for this restaurant.
Trey Gerrald:Yeah, I do feel like they're going to have to,
James Palmer:It's a beautiful restaurant.
James Palmer:The drinks were fantastic.
James Palmer:The lighting's a little difficult.
James Palmer:maybe I'm just getting older, but to read the menus, the V's were very small.
James Palmer:And then it's kind of got that, you know, string lights, 20 feet over your head
Chelsey Donn:Yeah.
James Palmer:really notice that there's a tiny V and I don't know what the R means
James Palmer:So who knows?
Chelsey Donn:There's no code and it's dark.
Chelsey Donn:So it's almost like they're purposely trying to get you to not see what's
Trey Gerrald:being vague, which is like a problem.
Chelsey Donn:vague.
James Palmer:It would be fine if every time somebody got sat down, every single
Chelsey Donn:Um,
James Palmer:Our server sweet as pie just didn't incorporate that.
James Palmer:I did.
James Palmer:I only heard it from one server actually.
Chelsey Donn:Wow.
Chelsey Donn:Overheard
James Palmer:I over accidentally.
Trey Gerrald:But see my thinking is like, if you are a plant-based restaurant,
Trey Gerrald:I don't think it should be a key.
Trey Gerrald:I think you're actually a restaurant with an intention, so I think it
Trey Gerrald:The lighting.
Trey Gerrald:I think it should be in red letters.
Trey Gerrald:It shouldn't be smaller than the type font.
Trey Gerrald:It should be part of the description.
Trey Gerrald:There should be No.
Trey Gerrald:question that the whole point that you just said about you have lived your life a certain number
Trey Gerrald:It's so disrespectful to have that power taken away.
Trey Gerrald:That it's not this isn't a joke.
Chelsey Donn:especially when you're capitalizing on those people.
Trey Gerrald:Right.
Trey Gerrald:And that's why I feel like there's just, hopefully I do think that I think that this
Trey Gerrald:Like there is a consequence calming and hopefully like your impact on the Review!
Trey Gerrald:will be felt.
Trey Gerrald:And hopefully there'll be a change.
Trey Gerrald:I mean, crazy.
Chelsey Donn:Insane.
Chelsey Donn:My roommate went to Craig's and they are vegan-friendly like, they clearly,
Chelsey Donn:They have like steaks and all, but they're a vegan friendly.
Chelsey Donn:And they have this amazing vegan ice cream.
Chelsey Donn:That's like what they're known for.
Chelsey Donn:And my roommate is pescatarian and he went there and he ordered the chicken
Chelsey Donn:Cause that's like a common thing on the menu.
Chelsey Donn:Like you can say, I want the chicken parm, but I want it vegan.
Chelsey Donn:So he ordered it vegan and he like ate like the whole thing.
Chelsey Donn:And the whole time he was like moaning and then the server came back and he was like, this is the
Chelsey Donn:is the most amazing chicken parm I've ever had in my life.
Chelsey Donn:How did you do this?
Chelsey Donn:Like how could you make something vegan?
Chelsey Donn:He's this good.
Chelsey Donn:And these, the waitresses faced face, her like lights and she like ran to the kitchen
Chelsey Donn:Thing.
Chelsey Donn:Like they came out and they were like, I'm so sorry.
Chelsey Donn:Are you going to be okay?
Chelsey Donn:Like, do you have an allergy?
Chelsey Donn:We really messed up.
Chelsey Donn:Like, we're going to take it off your bill.
Chelsey Donn:And, and like, he was upset, but like, he was just a pescatarian and he's not allergic to it.
Chelsey Donn:So, you know, life went on.
Chelsey Donn:But the point is that in that situation, when they made a mistake, it was like a really big deal.
Chelsey Donn:Like they really did a lot.
Chelsey Donn:So the fact that they did nothing.
Chelsey Donn:Like, they literally charge you the same amount after they just like mess up your
Chelsey Donn:It's it's just, where's the customer service.
Trey Gerrald:Wait, James, what is Cal pus?
Chelsey Donn:Cheers.
James Palmer:little bit of Cow Puss in every glass of milk, just, just,
Trey Gerrald:What is that though?
James Palmer:it's like us, like not good,
Trey Gerrald:From there outers or whatever
James Palmer:from the abuse that their daughters go through on a daily basis for years.
Trey Gerrald:it makes those bones strong.
Chelsey Donn:Got milk.
James Palmer:Yeah.
James Palmer:Yeah,
