Welcome to the Peak Revival Podcast.
Speaker:My name is Vesna.
Speaker:Today I'm gonna talk about the winner effect explained and
Speaker:why acknowledging your wins makes a huge difference to
Speaker:the results that you create.
Speaker:Now, I've been.
Speaker:Following this for years, unknowingly.
Speaker:And I recently picked up a book which talked about it
Speaker:and I thought, oh yes, that makes total sense for me.
Speaker:That absolutely works.
Speaker:And so sometimes, you know, we look for the right
Speaker:strategy, having the right mindset and something.
Speaker:It can be as simple as
Speaker:acknowledging your wins
Speaker:that has a huge impact on your results, and quite often what
Speaker:we look for is the results first to then, you know, be
Speaker:happy about our progress.
Speaker:But it's kind of backwards, right?
Speaker:I'm gonna explain why.
Speaker:So how often do you achieve something, something good
Speaker:happens in your life and you literally go, oh yeah, that's
Speaker:great, and you brush it off and you forget about it.
Speaker:But if something's going wrong or something could
Speaker:go wrong, you focus on it, you obsess about it, or
Speaker:you overthink it, right?
Speaker:And it's on your mind.
Speaker:You can't let it go.
Speaker:It's interesting, right?
Speaker:The things that.
Speaker:Bring us joy and that we were working towards and that, make
Speaker:us feel good, like something that's a good result.
Speaker:We don't really give it much time to focus on, we just
Speaker:focus on the negative, right?
Speaker:We focus on the gap.
Speaker:What's the potential problem ahead?
Speaker:What we don't have, right?
Speaker:That's where our mind gets stuck.
Speaker:Duck.
Speaker:I noticed this with my work many years ago with clients
Speaker:that, if you were left to your own accord to track how
Speaker:you were feeling, you would say that you don't feel any
Speaker:different, or maybe you feel a little bit different, right?
Speaker:Sleep, energy, appetite, whatever it is.
Speaker:when someone is tracking you.
Speaker:You really see the big leaps and bounds that you've
Speaker:made in your progress.
Speaker:That is hard to identify because we have trained
Speaker:ourselves to not look for these things.
Speaker:We have trained ourselves to look for the negative,
Speaker:and I'll explain more.
Speaker:So our brain has this default setting.
Speaker:So we have the amygdala part of our brain, which is the
Speaker:tiny, tiny little center that activates the fight or
Speaker:flight response, creates the downstream effect of stress.
Speaker:Cortisol disrupts our hormones, breaks down
Speaker:our gut causes insulin resistance belly.
Speaker:And so much more, right?
Speaker:But that little amygdala is a threat detection
Speaker:system so it is constantly scanning your environment
Speaker:automatically for threats.
Speaker:and this is your brain's filter, and this is what?
Speaker:Gets your attention.
Speaker:And so the RAs or the reticular activating
Speaker:system doesn't distinguish between what you want
Speaker:and what you don't want.
Speaker:It simply looks for what you focus on, right?
Speaker:So the amygdala's out there scanning for threats.
Speaker:You are habitually trained and programmed yourself.
Speaker:To look for what could go wrong?
Speaker:What is wrong?
Speaker:Where's the gap?
Speaker:What don't I have right now?
Speaker:And so the reticular activating system is
Speaker:looking for that, right?
Speaker:So you've got the amygdala at work, you've got the RA
Speaker:system at work, and you're not focused on anything
Speaker:that is for a long period of time, I should say, not
Speaker:focus on the good for a long period of time, but you'll
Speaker:spend a lot more of your thinking process stuck on.
Speaker:The bad, the negative, right?
Speaker:And so these two systems are working together as a default
Speaker:setting, looking for all the negative things, right?
Speaker:And the unfortunate thing is that plays a big role
Speaker:on our mood
Speaker:on our brain chemistry
Speaker:and even our results.
Speaker:So the RAs, this reticular activating system
Speaker:highlights more problems.
Speaker:It's a, it's called a confirmation bias.
Speaker:You literally see more of what you're looking for.
Speaker:So a really good example is, you know, you're
Speaker:thinking of buying a red car or a blue car, right?
Speaker:You don't see them anywhere or a particular type
Speaker:of car, like, I'm gonna get this Honda, or I'm
Speaker:gonna get this Mercedes, and you don't see it.
Speaker:And then all of a sudden when you want to buy it
Speaker:or you want that car for yourself, you see it.
Speaker:Everywhere.
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:And that's called a confirmation bias.
Speaker:And so that's that system at play, basically
Speaker:bringing your attention.
Speaker:So you're literally seeing more of what
Speaker:you're looking for.
Speaker:So I, I found this book recently called The Winner
Speaker:Effect by Ian Robertson, and he talked about how when
Speaker:we have success, it changes our brain chemistry and
Speaker:it makes us more focused.
Speaker:It makes us more smarter, it makes us confident,
Speaker:it increases our hormones as well, like it's as
Speaker:powerful as any drug.
Speaker:And so he said, successful people or winners understand
Speaker:this, and they use it to their advantage.
Speaker:So for example, instead of looking at the negative,
Speaker:instead of looking.
Speaker:What you don't have right now, or comparing
Speaker:yourself to others or what went wrong, right?
Speaker:But really searching in your day to find what went right?
Speaker:What's good about my life?
Speaker:What am I happy about?
Speaker:What did I achieve today?
Speaker:What are the little micro wins that I have today?
Speaker:And actually spending time enjoying that, like actually
Speaker:going into that and bringing up those feelings of.
Speaker:I'm pretty proud of myself.
Speaker:That was pretty good.
Speaker:It's micro little win, but it's a really good win.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:That's really great.
Speaker:I actually would've loved to have that win so much,
Speaker:probably a year ago, and now it's like a, it's like
Speaker:a micro win now, right?
Speaker:So really get into it, get excited about it.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:And what that does.
Speaker:It changes your brain chemistry.
Speaker:And as Eden Robertson said, it's more
Speaker:powerful than any drug.
Speaker:And And what it does, I kind of look at it
Speaker:like a staircase, right?
Speaker:So as you create that acknowledgement of that
Speaker:win, and you really bathe in it, right?
Speaker:You kind of go up the next step of the staircase, right?
Speaker:And then you see more opportunities of things that.
Speaker:Are working well for you, more opportunities
Speaker:come your way, right?
Speaker:It's a funny thing.
Speaker:And then as you bathe in that a little bit more,
Speaker:you go up another step.
Speaker:And as you continue to do that, more opportunities, more
Speaker:good luck, more things happen your way and you're enjoying
Speaker:that process more, and you keep going up another step and
Speaker:another step and another step until you reach a completely
Speaker:new level where you are.
Speaker:Finding success is much easier for you.
Speaker:And when I talk about success, I'm not talking about business
Speaker:success or career success.
Speaker:I'm talking about relationship success, weight loss
Speaker:success, health success, money success, right?
Speaker:So all different areas because if you start
Speaker:to focus on your wins.
Speaker:You're going to find more wins.
Speaker:You're going to create more wins, which will open you
Speaker:up to more opportunity.
Speaker:But there is a biochemical shift that happens
Speaker:in the body as well.
Speaker:So your brain literally becomes upgraded.
Speaker:You start disconnecting from all that negative stuff that
Speaker:you're focused on, and you start to see the positive.
Speaker:And so it's really about retraining the brain.
Speaker:And I think, you know, when I look at my work with clients,
Speaker:so I've been using this effect for many, many years because
Speaker:when I speak to clients.
Speaker:And I'm gonna talk about what we do in our programs too.
Speaker:But when I speak to my clients, you know, I
Speaker:will always ask them, where's your energy at?
Speaker:Like, how did you say how, how's your sleep
Speaker:been over the last week?
Speaker:And I will use their words, their language.
Speaker:I'll write it down, right?
Speaker:So in the beginning, when I first see them, after a
Speaker:week or two weeks, whatever, I check in with them.
Speaker:I'll ask them the same questions.
Speaker:I'll ask them like, how you been going?
Speaker:Yeah, okay.
Speaker:You know, or, yeah, great.
Speaker:But yeah.
Speaker:Okay.
Speaker:All right.
Speaker:So let's, let's have a look.
Speaker:So what about.
Speaker:You know, last time I spoke to you, you said like, you
Speaker:know, in the afternoon, like your, your energy was
Speaker:crashing at like two 3:00 PM.
Speaker:And they're like, oh, I don't even have that anymore.
Speaker:That is so funny.
Speaker:Oh my gosh.
Speaker:I didn't even realize I don't have that.
Speaker:I have not had that at all.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:And then you talk about something about stress,
Speaker:about sleep or, or cravings, and they're like, no,
Speaker:that, that is crazy.
Speaker:That is so much better.
Speaker:But they don't notice it.
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:So I, I literally use their words.
Speaker:I write it down and then I repeat that back to
Speaker:them when I see them.
Speaker:And it does so much to upgrade the brain
Speaker:that they go, yes, I'm.
Speaker:Actually getting great results here, which they
Speaker:did not notice themselves.
Speaker:And it's really powerful because it helps them
Speaker:to create confidence.
Speaker:It obviously changes their brain chemistry, but
Speaker:they create confidence.
Speaker:they find the next step a lot easier, right?
Speaker:So we keep building upon that, right?
Speaker:So that the end, they've had great success and they
Speaker:feel amazing and they're very proud of themselves.
Speaker:But it's a very important part of the process.
Speaker:I do that in our program.
Speaker:So I, I ask people every week to acknowledge their wins
Speaker:and some do and some don't.
Speaker:And sometimes it looks like, oh, that's a
Speaker:nice to have exercise.
Speaker:But it's literally upgrading your brain and it's
Speaker:literally changing that reticular activating system
Speaker:to find more wins, which is leading you to move.
Speaker:Another step up that staircase to this point where you become
Speaker:at another level, you become at a much higher level than
Speaker:you were at the beginning.
Speaker:So you're like elevating your state, you're elevating
Speaker:your mood, your, your mental energy sharpens.
Speaker:You see possibilities that you couldn't see before.
Speaker:You have a confidence that you didn't have before.
Speaker:when you are operating at a different level,
Speaker:you have different opportunities available
Speaker:to you at that level.
Speaker:And that's the whole idea of, all right, and that's
Speaker:the whole idea of the Winning Effect book that
Speaker:EED Robertson talked about is that successful people.
Speaker:Understand this, they ride the wave of the
Speaker:winds no matter how small.
Speaker:They stack those wind and they keep riding them, and the
Speaker:more they feel good, the more opportunities come to them.
Speaker:The more they can create better results.
Speaker:They keep stacking those wins.
Speaker:They ride that wave, and then the next, and then the next.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:It kind of makes sense as I'm describing it,
Speaker:but how often honestly, do you sit and think.
Speaker:Yeah, but I still have so much weight to lose or you
Speaker:know, I'm still don't have the money that I wanna have,
Speaker:or my business is not in the place that I want it to be,
Speaker:or whatever it is, right?
Speaker:How often are you thinking that rather than, actually
Speaker:I did do really well, right?
Speaker:This is, this is a win.
Speaker:This is a great win, and really sit in it
Speaker:and enjoy it, right?
Speaker:Stretch it out, bathe in it, like really enjoy that moment.
Speaker:So it has that biochemical shift in your body, so it does
Speaker:start to retrain the brain.
Speaker:So looking for wins can literally be your fuel
Speaker:to the next level of success in whatever your
Speaker:goals are right now.
Speaker:Okay?
Speaker:Can be personal, can be health, can be business,
Speaker:can be anything.
Speaker:So this, using this as your strategy.
Speaker:To fuel your success without willpower, without trying to
Speaker:force yourself or discipline.
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:It's very simple.
Speaker:There is, I guess, some discipline because you
Speaker:have to keep refocusing.
Speaker:You have to keep reminding yourself, oh, hold on.
Speaker:I am looking for wins today.
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:And so the question isn't whether you're
Speaker:making progress.
Speaker:the question is are you looking for it?
Speaker:Are you looking forward in what you're doing right now?
Speaker:'cause I promise you, as you see the progress, you
Speaker:start to feel better and it just becomes more enjoyable
Speaker:to continue that process.
Speaker:if you are in one of my programs, please
Speaker:acknowledge your wins when we ask for them.
Speaker:And if you are doing anything else on your own,
Speaker:it would be a really good time to start listing out
Speaker:at the end of the day, what are my wins for today?
Speaker:And really start to enjoy them.
Speaker:I'd love to hear your comments below this video.
