Create Art Podcast New Series the New Artist Compass hello, friend. This is Timothy Kimo Brien, your head instigator for Create Art Podcast where I bring my over 30 years of experience in the arts and education world to help you tame your inner critic and create more than you consume. So if you're a past listener or a longtime listener, you know that we just completed the Make Fun of Habit series and I, I don't know what it is, but for the past couple of years, I really enjoy doing these series. I started off with the inspiration cards, then it morphed into what we have to, well, what we have had for the past year, which has been making fun a habit for your creative practice. And now I thought, well, you know, I know enough about art. Let's do something for new artists. So that's what you're going to be getting for the next, oh, I don't know, 12 episodes should run us for the next three, three and a half months. So something I've found really beneficial in these series is that it constantly makes me think of what I need to be doing. It's kind of my guidepost to, you know, present to you the new artist, you know, things that you may not have thought of. Maybe you didn't go to college for art, whatever it is, maybe you've been given a lot of the wrong ideas of what it means to be creative and an artist. So this new series that I thought up, I've been thinking about it. It's been in the back of my head for a long time and that's why it's called the New Artist Compass. So let me talk to you a little bit about it. I'm going to try to make it a bi weekly series so every other week. And, you know, maybe you just picked up a brush for the first time in years. Maybe you're looking at a blank page, wondering if you can call yourself an artist. Or maybe you've been doing things quietly, kind of under the radar and unsure, you know, you know, whether to share them with the world or not. Well, wherever you are, this is the right place for you. You belong here. I'll call you an artist. I'll tell you, go out there and share it with the world. I'll say, hey, tackle that blank page and we'll give you ideas and steps that you can do that. And if you've stepped away from art for a while, hey, this is your call to come back. Now, the New Artist Compass is a series that I made just for you, whether you're an artist in the beginning of your journey or you're coming back. And we're going to talk about things that don't always get covered in traditional classes or how to tutorials or other podcasts on creativity. Now what are we going to be covering? Well, how to build a creative space that truly inspires you, even if it's just a corner in your kitchen. We're going to talk about how to handle first time critiques or if people are ignoring your work, we're going to show you how to handle that. Also going to talk to you about how to stay motivated when your ideas feel stuck and your confidence dips. You know that whole imposter syndrome thing? Yeah, we're going to talk about that. We're going to talk about how to connect with other artists when you're feeling isolated. And this is key for artists is to have that community. And, you know, probably the most important thing is how to define success and what that looks like for you. Now, each episode is going to focus on one challenge or decision point that, you know, most of the new artists face. And we're going to share insights, encouragement, and, you know, sometimes we're going to invite guests to be here. So think of this as your creative support system or your compass. As the name implies, it's not a strict roadmap. Some of the episodes you're going to get something out of, some of them, it's like a buffet. You know, take what you will and leave the rest, but it's going to help guide and navigate your own unique path. Here's the thing, you don't have to have it figured out. I've been doing art for 30 years. I don't have it all figured out. You just need to be willing to take that next step and that's what we're doing here, you and me. So if this is your first time listening, hey, you've got in on a great series here. Or if this is the first time you really thought yourself as an artist. Welcome in to the fold. You know, welcome to the dark side. As I like to say, we have cookies. I am very glad you are here. You. That's right, I'm talking to you. You know, whether you're in your car, mowing the lawn or whatever you're doing right now. I'm glad you're here. I'm glad you took time to out of your day to spend with me and for us to talk about art. So what all this means too is that I'm inviting you to join me on the show and what I'm going to do here for you is list out all the topics I'm going to be talking about. Now, if you would like to have a conversation and if you'll allow me to record it, these are the topics I want to talk about. Now, you can be an expert in this. You can have questions about it. Basically, it's a conversation. And I want this series to be a series of conversations that I'm having with other artists. Because, folks, I don't have all the answers. So what works for me may not work for you. And if that's the case, I want to hear what works for you. So here's the topics we're going to be tackling. Setting up creative workspace. Creative constraints and prompts. Sharing your work online for the first time. Dealing with criticism and rejection. Finding or building an artistic community. Collaboration as a creative catalyst. Staying motivated Long term Mental health and creativity. Art challenges and social media trends. Measuring growth as an artist. Why do you create? When to call yourself an artist? And I'll let you in a little bit on that one right now. Lessons from a year of creating and setting creative goals without killing the joy. Now, something I want to tell you is that if that episode comes out and you're just picking this up, don't worry about it. Because at the end of this, I'm going to do two bonus episodes. One is going to be what I call Oops, I missed out on when you did this episode. That's where, hey, if we've already done it but you didn't get the, you didn't get the memo. Well, fire your assistant first of all, foremost. But if you didn't get the memo on that one, that's fine. We can still have that conversation about it. I still want to talk to you about it. Okay? So don't sweat that. And then the last one is going to be my best of in this series. So that one, maybe, you know, maybe you got in on time and got that episode that you got on that episode that you wanted to get on. Or maybe you got the Oops, I didn't get the memo episode. Or maybe you're just like, you know, something along those lines. So don't worry, you're gonna have plenty of time. We'll set up interviews. Well, actually, you know, I've got to, you know, slap myself for that. These aren't going to be interviews. These are going to be conversations. So I'm going to give my ideas, somebody's going to give their ideas and you're going to be the beneficiary of all those ideas. So check it out. I'm glad you're here. I'm glad you're starting your journey with us. Now here's the most important part. If you want to be on the show, you need to email me. Timothy art podcast.com if you get something out of any of these episodes, I'm going to ask that you go ahead and share that episode with others that may be having a hard time just like you. And that's. I don't know where you could build your community. Oh, hey, we're already talking about the series, but definitely share it with somebody else. Do them, do them a solid. Okay? Do, do your creative friends a solid. And also I want to know how this new format, this new series goes. So I want you to email me and let me know. Is it too long, too short? Are the topics something that you're not interested in? Do you have ideas for other topics that I should be discussing in this? Do you have an idea for a conversation that you want to have with me that you don't mind if everyone else listens in on? Email me. That's the best way to do it. Now I said something about sharing the show with others. I do have another show out there. It's called Find a Podcast about and you can find it at findapodcastabout xyz and that's where I help my listeners over there. You know, they, I want them to, you know, outsmart that algorithm and find their next binge worthy podcast. Check it out for yourself. If you're looking for a cool podcast to listen to and it can be on any topic whatsoever, or if you want me to review a podcast so that way the word can get out to other folks about a really great podcast, let me know. A lot of times I get the podcast host on the show and actually interview them so you could get some behind the scenes stuff and some inside information. If you listen to Find a Podcast about, I also want to let you know that I do run a business. It's called TKB Podcast Studio and that's where I help my clients lead through the noise with quiet professionalism. I'm setting up podcasts all the time. People ask me, hey, you know, how easy is this to do? Well, I'm doing it and I'm 52 and I'm not the smartest, not the smartest guy in the room and I make sure that I'm not the smartest guy in the room because then I need to go to a different room. But if you need help starting your podcast, get in contact with me. TKBpodcaststudio.com or you can email me@timothykbpodcaststudio.com I definitely want to work with you and help you make your vision come to life. All right, well, that is all I have for you today.
