This is MJ here, the host of the NGA podcast. And this is thriving project management, Thursdays. This is where we share ideas on how to become the best project manager in the world. In this time of increased complexity, immense competition and accelerated change. Project management skills, good project management skills. I need it now more than ever. And as joy gum said, organized operations keeps the lights on strategy provides light at the end of the tunnel and project management is the training engine that drives the organization for it. And on the episode today, we're going to talk about which type of project manager are you. Which type of project manager are you? And there are four common types of project managers that have been identified that I've identified through some research and we're going to get into today. Now, according to a globe project management report, 97% of all organisms. Businesses, uh, prescribed, uh, believe that project management is imperative for the organization to succeed and to improve the business performance. And I agree with that, you know, efficient project management plays a pivotal role in driving the business forward and helps to grow and expand while adapting to changing dynamics to get the right project manager for your business organization. It's very important to understand what types of project managers are they and for you to go out into the marketplace to, uh, provide project management services, you need to be congruent with yourself and understand what type of project manager are you, you know, so we're going to help shed some light on the different types of project managers or what they're about, well, how they think. And then, uh, you can also identify where you find yourself and as a business need project management, you can identify what type of. Manager that you want. And they all four of them that talk them talk through the technical project manager at the adventurous project manager at the expert project manager and the supportive project manager let's get into it. That technical project manager would these, all the type of project managers that I have a lot of respectful. Now that take place. Has complete command over project management practices, every single one of them, when you give them a project to be, they are able to know, and that they will just know that they won't compromise on the key deliverables and performance indicators of the projects because they are so technically inclined, they know. Great eye for detail. They put input the analytical and problem solving skills, and they use critical thinking to make good decisions. And also they have a good technical understanding, especially in it. They'll be able to tell you about front-end front end, backend databases. They will tell you about all the technical speak that's necessary for them. In the specific domain, you can know that the technical project manager is someone who is detail orientated, and they will be able to give you insight based on the technical expertise that they have every single day of the week. The next type of project manager is the adventurous project manager, the adventure as project manager, you know, The higher, the risk, the higher the reward. That's the motto that these project managers live by the higher, the risk, the higher the reward. You, this is the same that you might have heard quite a lot of time, but some project managers also ascribe to this and this is their DNA. And then their makeup. They're not afraid to throw caution to the wind. They're not afraid to take the risks. And they're always looking for business opportunities, always reaching out there. And sometimes they may take gambles that may pay off. That may not pay off, but it, this doesn't matter what the risk is, but if they see their reward and business, a reward, that's out there, they're going to take the risk. Anyway. Now the positive trait, uh, the positive spin on this is that this type of project might just stays in science, strategic boundaries. So if you, as a project sponsor or the CEO, or the COO who is, um, has employed this project manage. No, that there was still within per strategic boundaries when they're taking the risks, because the risk that they're taking, the adventures that they're going for, they own, they want to make sure that the business derives the best strategic benefits possible. The next type of project manager we'll talk about is the expert project manager, the expert project manager. Now, now, even though project managers jump over strategic boundaries and looking, seek you're looking for lucrative business opportunities. Expert project managers take data driven decisions, and that makes the. Risk that they take less risky because in comparison to a five ventures project managers, because they take a whole lot more of a data-driven approach and focus on reliable information and data to make up their mind regarding a particular business opportunity. And if a particular business opportunity presents itself, they are going to scribe to what Deming said, and God, we trust all others bring data with experience and knowledge that is on the side. They can very swiftly identify. The business opportunity that they should go for and which ones to focus. And they know, uh, what's, uh, very well what the strategy is and how they're going to challenge it. And they focus on convincing the higher, the high ups that I have stakeholders to go up for suitable business opportunities. And I can pave the way for business growth and trustworthy quality, quantitative data evidence. They work quite well with, uh, with your demand owners, with your, the salespeople. They are not as, um, Natural light to some salespeople can be, but because they're the very thing that underpins their philosophy and now the operator it as data, or they vent their fantastic executing, different project management methodologies to profession, order to convert the business opportunity into financial numbers. They're not going to stick to the very. Rigidly to waterfall or agile, they might meet, make a mixture of the two. There we'll make sure that the methodology fits the business opportunity that they want to land the last and fourth type of project manager that's out there is the supportive project manager, the supportive project management project management revolves around some three key aspects. Right. People process and technology, people, process and technology and supportive project managers. They place a lot of emphasis on people, but that does not mean that they neglect the processes and the technology because you know, people drive the processes and they can select and drive the technologist. Hence their focus is supporting and building people. They integrate the processes and technology with people in such a way. That the projects deliver exceptional results. They believe in motivation and delegation and never lead team spurts, you know, go on the download. You know, they support projects, supportive project managers are fantastic listeners and they also good at providing, providing sound advice. They believe in uninterrupted communication, the other smooth talkers, they make sure that the team collaborates well together and they are muscle in the arts of uplifting the morale of the. Team members despite any of their failure. So they don't, but red team members, they don't berate people when things go wrong, they are there to uplift, motivate, and inspire so that we can get back from this failures that are inevitable. They also have a strong bond with their team members. It's based on trust and team member returned the favor by delivering access optional performances. Now, these are. Only some of the, uh, some of the common ones. I know that there's an article by the Harvard business review that talks about different types of project managers or one of them being, uh, to talking about, uh, those being profits. And let me just get my. My notes, right? They talk about, you know, uh, gamblers profits executes as experts. I might do an episode on that later on, uh, the, these four that we have just highlighted the technical project manager at the adventurous project manager, the experts, uh, project manager and supportive project manager. Those are, uh, quite standard, uh, project manager personality types that we have covered. And so. Depending on the criteria that you use, you can just, and what your business need is and the type of person you are, you can pick either one of them. Now, each project manager has its own strengths and weaknesses as things, everything with life, and you have to choose one that suits you projects to help achieve the desired project goals. Um, now, Hey, you, as a project management professional out there posing the question to you, which type of project manager are you and as an organization, which type of project manager would you hire for the next project? And I, this is open for debate. It's open for reflection. Go through these four types of project managers do, or your own self assessment. Yeah. And understand that what is going to fulfill you? That's going to be a very critical question, you know, because some people might say we need all four types of project managers. All, you can be all four types of project managers, district can, but what will that do for your quality of life? I honestly believe you should triple down on your strengths and not focus too much on the weaknesses, because if you stay on the spots of your strengths, you are able to achieve far more than you would have. If you were to focus on your weaknesses. I hope that you enjoyed this episode of thriving project management.
