1, 2, 3.
Speaker AWelcome to the Rap Report with your host, Andrew Rapaport, where we provide biblical interpretation and application.
Speaker AThis is a ministry of striving for eternity in the Christian podcast community.
Speaker AFor more content or to request a speaker for your church, go to strivingforeeternity.org well, welcome to another edition of the Rappaport.
Speaker AI'm your host, Andrew Rapaport, the executive director of Striving Fraternity and the Christian podcast community of which this podcast is a proud member.
Speaker AWe are here to give you biblical interpretations and applications for the Christian life.
Speaker AToday, we're going to have a.
Speaker AWell, we're going to have a guest on someone that I got to meet in person.
Speaker AHe is a missionary on his way to Uruguay.
Speaker AAnd I'm hoping that several things that you're going to gain out of this episode.
Speaker AOne, I hope that you're going to gain a greater appreciation for those who serve Christ around the world.
Speaker AMaybe, just maybe, God is calling you to do that.
Speaker AAnd maybe this episode will be signed.
Speaker AGod uses to put that on you, your heart to pick up and go somewhere that you want to go.
Speaker ANow, it doesn't mean that's the only place we could serve.
Speaker AYou can serve in your own local community, but there are some who God calls to pick up and go around the world and serve elsewhere.
Speaker AAnd then the other thing I'm hoping that God might put on your heart is to say, hey, I really have a heart for what Timo is doing and I want to help support him.
Speaker AAnd so with that, let me welcome in Timothy Hawk.
Speaker AAnd folks might just heard that I called you a name they haven't heard in America.
Speaker ASo first off, introduce yourself and explain to people why I called you Timo.
Speaker BHey, it's great to be here.
Speaker BThank you for having me.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BMy name is Timothy Hawk.
Speaker BThe reason why I go by Timo is because I grew up as a missionary kid in New York way South America.
Speaker BAnd my name is Spanish is Timoteo.
Speaker BAnd to shorten that, in Spanish, they don't say Tim, they say Timo.
Speaker BAnd so for basically my whole life, I've just gone by Timo.
Speaker AAnd you and I got to meet because you are a missionary candidate at my home church, Oxford Valley Chapel.
Speaker AAnd our church is looking to raise the support to help you raise your full support to be able to get to Uruguay.
Speaker ASo that's how you and I got to meet.
Speaker AAnd after we're talking, I was like, I need to have you on and let's talk more.
Speaker ASo for folks to to first know, talk about your, your background a bit.
Speaker AYou, you, you grew up in Uruguay as a missionary child, as you mentioned.
Speaker AWhat is it, what's it like in Uruguay?
Speaker AFirst explain the, the country.
Speaker BYeah, yeah.
Speaker BSo just a little bit of my background.
Speaker BI was, I was born in Uruguay.
Speaker BMy parents have been there for about 35 years, church planting in this, in the capital city of Montevideo there.
Speaker BAnd that's where I grew up.
Speaker BI spent all my whole life there until I was about 18.
Speaker BAnd that's when I came to the States to study a little bit more and a little bit about my, a little bit on my testimony is when I was about 8 or 9 years old, I, I remember hearing about what God had done for me during one of our family devotions.
Speaker BAnd my whole life, ever since I was born, my parents had always taught me about God and told me about what Jesus had done for me.
Speaker BAnd they did such a good job that I really don't remember a point in my life where I don't remember understanding what the gospel was.
Speaker BIt was always very clear to me.
Speaker BAnd so when I was about seven or eight, that's when I realized, well, it doesn't matter how much I know about the gospel, that's not what saves me.
Speaker BAnd I realized that I was separated from God because of my sin and that the only way to restore that relationship with God is what Jesus had done for me on the cross.
Speaker BAnd so that night I told my dad that I wanted to place my faith and trust in Jesus Christ.
Speaker BAnd that's really been the best decision I've ever made in my entire life, was putting my faith and trust in Jesus and becoming God's child.
Speaker BAnd ever since I was small, ever since I was that young, God really gave me a burden to go back to Uruguay, to serve him there.
Speaker BAnd I remember I'm a pretty logical thinker.
Speaker BAnd so I remember thinking about everything that God had done for me and about, you know, how he had sent Jesus to die on the cross and how Jesus gave his life for me.
Speaker BAnd my only logical conclusion to that was, well, if Jesus who's willing to give his life for me, then the very least I can do is to give my life back to Christ for him to use however he wants.
Speaker BThis is not my life anymore.
Speaker BThis is God's.
Speaker BAnd ever since I was that young, God gave me a burden to go back to Yerdway.
Speaker BAnd I see him, he has given me this privilege of being able to grow up there, to be able to see the needs firsthand and he has, you know, I've been able to grow up with the knowledge of the culture, of the language, and it's been something that he's never really let up on.
Speaker BAnd he keeps on opening up the doors on the way.
Speaker BAnd I want to use this, this knowledge that I have for his honor and glory to be able to spread the gospel in Uruguay.
Speaker BSo the next thing that you addressed was what is Uruguay like?
Speaker BSo Uruguay, if you don't know where Uruguay is, I always tell people, if you can find the country of Brazil, which is the largest country in South America, Uruguay is located right below that.
Speaker BIt's right on the coast.
Speaker BIt is only bordered by Brazil and Argentina on the other side.
Speaker BIt's about the size of Ohio, has a population of 3 million people, and the capital city is Montevideo, which is located on the very most southern tip of the country.
Speaker BAnd the capital city has about half of the population.
Speaker BSo about a million and a half people live in the capital city.
Speaker BAnd that's where me and my wife will be returning to there.
Speaker BAnd Uruguay is just a lot of rolling grasslands.
Speaker BIt's one of its things that is most well known for is its beef.
Speaker BAnd that's on the early days when Uruguay was, was fighting for an independence, it was being fought over because it was very pristine grasslands, great for raising cattle.
Speaker BAnd that's what one of the largest exports still today is, its export of beef, raising cattle and sheep on there.
Speaker BIt also exports rice and timber.
Speaker BAnd in the capital city, one of the biggest revenues would also be tourism because Uruguay also has the largest natural port in all of South America.
Speaker BAnd so that attracts a lot of cruise ships that come in there.
Speaker BAnd Uruguay unfortunately also has the highest rate of atheists and agnostics in all South America.
Speaker BIt is a very meaty country, a country that really needs the gospel.
Speaker BIt has the highest rates of atheists and agnostics.
Speaker BAbout between like 30, 40% of the population would claim to be atheists, are agnostic.
Speaker BAround 40 to 50% would claim to be Roman Catholic.
Speaker BIs also the mostly the most secularized society in all South America.
Speaker BIt also has the highest suicides rates in all of South America.
Speaker BIt is a country that really needs the gospel.
Speaker BAnd you know, those are some of the reasons why God is really calling us to go back, is because we see the great need that is there and also because he just keeps on leading us.
Speaker BHe hasn't given us peace about anything else.
Speaker BAnd so we're excited and we're looking forward to getting back and working for the Lord, there.
Speaker AI find it so interesting that the countries that have a higher amount of secularism, they professed atheism, are the same ones that, you know, you end up realizing, oh, they, they also have the highest number, the highest amount of, you know, suicide.
Speaker ANow they would, they would have gone, oh no, we're, we're more enlightened, we're more, you say that and yet it's like, that's not quite fitting with what we see.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AYeah, it's just a very interesting thing.
Speaker ASo now, obviously, as a meat eater, I think I would love to go there.
Speaker AIt sounds like lots of beef.
Speaker AHopefully really inexpensive too.
Speaker ABut yeah, it, so what, when you get there, what do you plan on doing?
Speaker AYour, your parents live there, so you've grown up there.
Speaker AYou were somewhat familiar and some might say you're more familiar with that culture than this culture.
Speaker ABut you know, it's, it is, it was a culture shift to get here to America and now you're gonna have to go to another one.
Speaker AGetting back.
Speaker AWhat are you looking to do when you get there?
Speaker AAnd then a follow on question I'm curious of is what kind of training are you doing while you're here?
Speaker AIn preparation?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BSo when we get there, we're going to be involved in quite a few different ministries.
Speaker BOne of the first ones is we're going to be involved in church planting in the capital city of Montevideo.
Speaker BIt's going to be near my parents.
Speaker BWe're not going to be working directly with my parents, but we'll be nearby in the capital city of Montevideo.
Speaker BWe're going to be involved in a church plant in an area of Montevideo that's, that's new, it's growing and there really isn't a, a large Christian church in that area at all.
Speaker BAnd so we're going to be working in starting a new church there.
Speaker BWe're also going to be working with a Bible college that recently started back in 2014, which is also in the capital city there.
Speaker BAnd this Bible college has a goal of being able to train and equip national believers with biblical training, which is something that is highly lacking in South America.
Speaker BYou know, here in the US you have, there's multiple Bible colleges that you can attend, get classes online.
Speaker BAnd it's something that is very lacking in South America, not as available.
Speaker BAnd so this was a combination of multiple mission boards, multiple national pastors and churches coming together, seeing this need of this biblical training and starting this Bible college to be able to equip these national peoples to take over These ministries that have been started, and that's really been one of our burdens as well, because we really believe that the nationals, in your way, are able to spread the gospel much better than any one of us could.
Speaker BAnd we really want to be able to invest in them and train them to be able to do that.
Speaker BAnd so we're going to be involved in them in many different ways.
Speaker BWe're going to be teaching, we're going to be in different, you know, administration, technical roles, student care, they've asked us to be in charge of that and fundraising as well, recruitment, many different areas.
Speaker BAnd one of the other ministries that we really want to be involved in, both in the church planting in the Bible College, is biblical counseling.
Speaker BBiblical counseling is something that God has also given us a really strong desire for.
Speaker BMy wife has a master's degree in biblical counseling.
Speaker BI'm working on getting my master's degree as well in biblical counseling.
Speaker BAnd we want to incorporate that in all these different aspects of ministries we're going to be involved in, because this biblical counseling is also something that is highly lacking in South America as well.
Speaker BAnd, you know, we're praying that God will open doors, whether it'll be in the church, in the community, or in this college to use this aspect of biblical counseling.
Speaker BLet's see, what was that?
Speaker BWhat was the second question?
Speaker AAnd so follow up would be the training, which obviously some of it, you're.
Speaker AYou got a background in counseling, which is part of the training, but there's some other training you've also had just to prepare for this.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ASo you have to learn the language, right?
Speaker BWait, yes.
Speaker BYeah, yeah.
Speaker BSo August of last year, me and my wife went down to Southern Texas to a language school called Rio Grande Bible Institute in Edinburgh, Texas.
Speaker BAnd we spent about nine to 10 months there so that my wife could learn the language.
Speaker BAnd it was a very intensive Spanish language program.
Speaker BThey put about seven years of Spanish training into two semesters.
Speaker BAnd we averaged about where we calculated that we were doing about 30 hours of Spanish every week.
Speaker BClasses were in Spanish, one on one, tutoring, Spanish, church.
Speaker BIt was in a Spanish Bible college.
Speaker BThis, this language school is in a Spanish Bible college.
Speaker BSo you're surrounded by friends, activities, events, all in Spanish.
Speaker BAnd it was a great, great Spanish program.
Speaker BMy wife was able to pick it up very quickly, and so we've been preparing them that way.
Speaker BI've, you know, I've also been starting my, my master's degree in biblical counseling.
Speaker BThat's, you know, part of the training that we're preparing for when we get back.
Speaker BAnd then the past two weeks, me and my wife were down in, in Georgia with our mission board and we were receiving training on church planting and it was, you know, excellent, excellent training.
Speaker BTraining that you wouldn't get anywhere else and just on how to plant churches, cross culturally with teammates and how to, you know, plan your church plan so that, you know, national takes it over when you're done.
Speaker BGreat, great stuff.
Speaker BSo yeah, there's been a lot of training, a lot of preparation for, for when we get back down there.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ANow a funny story for folks to think, to know maybe you're, you're from Uruguay, you're used to the culture.
Speaker AYour wife, as you said, is, is new.
Speaker AShe had to learn Spanish and so just to see the culture shock for her.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AYou, she grew up with her family all spread out all over the world.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ASo she's not close to anyone, is that, that right?
Speaker BMy wife, my wife, my wife's family is all in the hall in the same area.
Speaker BSo it's definitely, definitely to this at all.
Speaker BIt's been very different for them to, yeah.
Speaker BTo get accustomed to it and, but they have only been loving and supporting through this whole time with, with them grasping, you know, this of us moving away overseas.
Speaker BIt will be difficult, but they have been very encouraging living through it all.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AThis is where you pray as a parent, you pray.
Speaker AI just want my children to serve the Lord, you know, Lord, wherever you want to take them and then she brings you home and it's.
Speaker AWell, I didn't quite mean there, Lord.
Speaker AI mean, it's a big adjustment.
Speaker AYou know, she's someone who's close with her family.
Speaker AThey're all right there to pick up and do a move like this to learn a new language, to learn a new culture.
Speaker AThe culture is somewhat familiar to you, but for her, this is, this is going to be a big change.
Speaker AYou know, you, you also happen to have a new baby on the way, so that's going to be another change for her.
Speaker AHow is, how's this impacting her?
Speaker BHonestly, I have been just so incredibly thankful and blessed.
Speaker BShe, you know, sometimes this, this is all normal for me.
Speaker BI've been, you know, traveling my new life, you know, adjusting to cultures and even coming back to the United States and going back to your way, you know, readjusting and this is all normal for me, but sometimes I don't realize and I have to be really conscientious of.
Speaker BThis is all new for her and she has just been such.
Speaker BShe is so sweet.
Speaker BAnd she has, she doesn't complain at all.
Speaker BAnd she has been just so encouraging and wanting to be a part of this ministry, you know, making it her own too.
Speaker BNot just going because of me, but making it her own and doing this as a team.
Speaker BAnd it has just amazed me every, every step that we have taken because I. I know it's not easy.
Speaker BI know it's incredibly difficult.
Speaker BIt's a lot of work.
Speaker BEven during this deputation process, we're raising support.
Speaker BYou know, we don't have.
Speaker BWe don't have a home to settle down.
Speaker BAnd then, you know, with a baby coming, it's hard.
Speaker BThere's a lot of sacrifices that she has to make.
Speaker BYou know, she.
Speaker BShe can.
Speaker BShe doesn't have a nursery to prepare.
Speaker BWe're going to be temporarily living somewhere before move to Uruguayan.
Speaker BAnd you know, there, there is a lot of sacrifices she makes, but she has just made them.
Speaker BSo.
Speaker BShe has been just so Christ like through this whole process and it never, she never ceases to amaze me.
Speaker BAnd she.
Speaker BI couldn't be doing this without her, honestly.
Speaker AYeah, she seems like a very sweet woman.
Speaker ASo as you go there, you're planning to go, you're going to do some counseling.
Speaker AI think that for a lot of folks when they think of missions, I want to highlight something you brought up because it's something that when you mentioned, instantly resonated with me and that was that a lot of people think of missions as someone who's going to pick up, go somewhere around the world and basically be like a church planter.
Speaker AThey're just going to be a pastor, but not here in America.
Speaker AThey're going to get paid by Americans to pastor a church in some other country.
Speaker AAnd there are some that do that.
Speaker AThere's some that are church planters where they move around and plant churches.
Speaker ABut you're trying to go there to train up locals.
Speaker AThat is something that resonates with me because I think that I've always felt, and you had mentioned this is pouring into the locals.
Speaker AThey are going to have the better impact or the greater impact on their culture that they know now.
Speaker AIt's a culture, you know, because you grew up in it.
Speaker ASo in that sense, it's not new to you or different for you, but for others, you know, why is that so important?
Speaker AWhy is it important to train up nationals rather than you just going out and doing the evangelism and the church planting and the pastoring?
Speaker BYeah, and I mean, this is something that I've seen personally Growing up is so many times a missionary will come into a country and they will, they'll start a church and they'll really focus on evangelism and they'll be able to start a church.
Speaker BAnd then like you said, they're, they're just there to pastor.
Speaker BAnd it's not really church plan, but they're just there to pastor.
Speaker BAnd then once they, they retire and leave that church ends up falling apart, closing down, because there was no investment into the nationals to take over those ministries.
Speaker BAnd, and yeah, again, like you said, the nationals are the ones that are going to be able to, to know the culture even better to be.
Speaker BThey're gonna have so many more connections in the country.
Speaker BThey're going to be able to relate so much better.
Speaker BThey're gonna be able to understand the people, understand the language so much better than anyone, any missionary going into the country.
Speaker BAnd it's also so important part of church planting is that it needs to be seen as temporary.
Speaker BYou're not there to pastor, but you are there to start an outreach like a church, a spiritual group of believers, and establishing someone there, a national, really investing into leadership training, teaching them how to evangelize and then moving on.
Speaker BAnd so that's why it's so important, the leadership training aspect of ministries to.
Speaker BIs to not be so focused on the church plants on those ministries that you forget to really invest in the leaders and the national people because they are ultimately the ones that are going to carry these ministries on.
Speaker BThey're going to be able to make these ministries even more fruitful.
Speaker BThey are going to be able to reach out to so many more people.
Speaker BThey are going to be able to be the ones that understand, communicate so much better.
Speaker BAnd so that's why it is so important to be just really, really focused on leadership training, pouring into national believers.
Speaker BNot just trying to, you know, start a church, get a couple believers, but really focus on that leadership training on the nationals as well.
Speaker AYou know, and one thing folks that you listen to, Timo, we talk about the training, things like this, we talk about the fact that yes, some are called to go around the world, but you may be called to go in your local area, maybe you're called to serve in your church, in your neighborhood.
Speaker AAnd one thing that would help you to do that, well, that would be Lagos Bible software.
Speaker AIf you were to get yourself some good software that can help you in the study of God's word, you would be better equipped to be able to reach whoever God is leading you to speak to.
Speaker AAnd so May I encourage you to invest your time and your money obviously into Logos Bible software.
Speaker AYou can go to logos.com that's L O G O S.com SFE that stands for Striving for Attorney.
Speaker ASo logos.com SFE there you not only get them some discounts, but they know that you got there from us and they will continue supporting us, which we greatly appreciate.
Speaker ANow one of the things with Logos, if you've heard of it before, it used to be this really, really expensive product that costs you, well a house mortgage.
Speaker AIt's not that way anymore.
Speaker ANow they've moved.
Speaker AIf you've never gotten Logos before, they have moved to more of a subscription based model.
Speaker ASo if you were to pay for two years up front, I think their lowest subscription is about 7 or $8 a. I think it's a week or a month, sorry, seven or eight dollars a month.
Speaker ASo basically that's like one Starbucks coffee.
Speaker AI mean just give up one Starbucks coffee and you can have great Bible software.
Speaker AThe neat thing about this is when you use Logos, you're one click away from learning so much about different words that if you have the, the packages that have some of the languages, you're one click away from getting into the Greek or the Hebrew.
Speaker AThere's all this scholarship that is put into that where you can quickly be able to search something in the Bible.
Speaker AI know that Jesus said something about fish somewhere.
Speaker AYou can do a search where you just look for where Jesus was the speaker and the topic was fish and boom, you come up with all the verses like that.
Speaker AIf you want to get into deeper research, there's all of the books they have are tagged so you can quickly find things by topic.
Speaker AIt's a great software, I love it.
Speaker AI've been using it for 30 years.
Speaker ASo I want to encourage you to check out Logos Bible software.
Speaker AGo to lagos.comsfe to make sure that you can get yours.
Speaker AAnd it is a great investment.
Speaker ABut you know, one thing I'm just gonna say, you know, if you're studying too much, you might get a little sleepy.
Speaker ASo a good parallel to have with your Logos Bible software is well, a good cup of coffee.
Speaker AAnd for that I recommend you go to Squirrelly Joe's.
Speaker ASquirrelly Joe is a Christian.
Speaker AHe you're a not only getting a great cup of coffee through there, but you're also supporting a Christian family who is training up their family, their young children to learn how to run a business as well.
Speaker ASo it's a whole family enterprise that are involved with this and you get some great coffee.
Speaker AI do encourage you to at least go and check out the different names of the coffee, because I crack up all the time.
Speaker AThe names he calls his coffees.
Speaker AThere's wisdom, there's integrity.
Speaker AI personally like compassion.
Speaker AI don't know if it's because I'm lacking compassion or like I maybe I just need more of it.
Speaker ABut I love that, that, that one coffee and the only one I won't drink is the honesty, because that's called decaf.
Speaker AAnd I don't think that's being honest.
Speaker AJust saying.
Speaker ABut maybe you like decaf and so you get yourself a cup of honesty.
Speaker ABut you can get it if you go to striving for eternity.org coffee striving for eternity.org coffee and when you go there on your first order, use the promo code SFE for striving fraternity.
Speaker AThe code SFE will get you it's either 20 off your entire purchase or the first bag free.
Speaker AWhichever one he is doing, you'll get one of those.
Speaker AAnd so with that, you get that discount.
Speaker ABut let me encourage you every time you reorder, please go to strivingforattorney.org Coffee because that's the only way he knows that we.
Speaker AYou were sent there from us so that he will continue sponsoring us, which we greatly appreciate.
Speaker AI love the coffee and I actually, the neat thing is most of the conferences I go to, he is sponsoring them.
Speaker ASo we're always getting, well, not only the coffee during the event, but he donates a free bag of coffee to each of the speakers.
Speaker AAnd that's how I, I got my first bag.
Speaker AIt was integrity.
Speaker AAnd I got to enjoy that coffee.
Speaker AAnd I have been hooked on it ever since and get none others.
Speaker ANow, if your church wants to get some coffee, they do have five pound bags.
Speaker AOr if you're like me and just drink a lot of coffee, I get five pound bags.
Speaker ABut you can get a five pound bag for your church.
Speaker AGo to strivingfraternity.org coffee to get yours today.
Speaker ASo, Timo, as we're talking about Uruguay, this is something where folks can, even the folks who are listening here could partner with you.
Speaker AThis is something where it's not just, oh, you're going, they're listening.
Speaker AThey're going, hey, that's really neat.
Speaker AWhat he's doing that he's able to help locals in the area.
Speaker AHe's going to help them, to counsel them, to train others, to do counseling, to train up new and future leaders for this country.
Speaker AWhere as you said, it's needed with so many people being, you know, trying to go secular.
Speaker ABut this is something where we can come alongside you.
Speaker AI've already mentioned our church is considering you as a candidate for our missions.
Speaker ABut you, if I'm not mistaken, you don't only rely on churches, do you?
Speaker BNo, we take, we take small groups, we take individuals, we take churches.
Speaker BBasically anybody that wants to continue, come alongside of us and partner us financially.
Speaker BYeah, anybody.
Speaker ASo how might, if people want to, to help you, partner with you?
Speaker AWhat would the partnership look like and how could they do that?
Speaker BYeah, so the easiest way that you could partner with us would be code to our, our mission agencies website.
Speaker BOur mission agency is Biblical Ministries Worldwide.
Speaker BTheir website is biblicalministries.org that's biblicalministries.org and you can look us up by our name in the search.
Speaker BMy name is Timothy Hawk.
Speaker BMy last name is Hoc.
Speaker BA lot of times it's confused.
Speaker BA lot of people want to spell H A W K, but it is actually H O C K. So if you want to look us up there, you can look up Timothy Hawk, H O C K. Now there's different options that you can give to support us, to come alongside of us, partner with us in what we're doing.
Speaker BIf you want to be in communication with us, we would.
Speaker BWe also send out monthly newsletters.
Speaker BYou can reach out to me to my email.
Speaker BIt's going to be timothy.hawkiblicalministries.org Simple.
Speaker BAgain, Timothy Hawk, H O C K@biblicalministries.org if you have any other questions, if you want to reach out, get me communication, you can ask.
Speaker BWe put on our, on our monthly email list.
Speaker BWe love staying in contact with all of our supporters and we also have a Facebook group.
Speaker BIt's called Timo and Alexa's Prayer Group.
Speaker BIf you're on Facebook and you'd love to keep up with us there.
Speaker BWe also, we post some different prayer requests and sometimes a little bit more often than they're on our prayer updates.
Speaker BBut yeah, we would love to partner with you and you can reach out at any time.
Speaker BWe'd love to hear from you.
Speaker ANow with this.
Speaker AYou mentioned that you're part of a missions board, which leads into.
Speaker AMy next question is for folks who want to donate, one thing that often comes up if they, if they want to help out is, well, what kind of accountability does this person have?
Speaker AIs he just going on his own and I'm going to have no idea how the money's being spent.
Speaker AOr, or you know, what he's doing.
Speaker AIs there accountability?
Speaker AYou have.
Speaker AYou have both a sending board and a sending church.
Speaker ASo how is, what's the relationship you have with biblical missions, with the mission board, and then what is the relationship you have with your sending church?
Speaker AAnd how do you know that?
Speaker ASending church.
Speaker BYeah, so we've partnered with this, with this mission board, Biblical ministries worldwide, and this mission board, one of its jobs is to keep us accountable, because that is very important with what we're doing, and that is something that we consider to be a high priority.
Speaker BWe want people to be able to trust us, to be able to know what we're doing, to be able to reach out at any time.
Speaker BAnd our mission agency really helps us to keep accountable financially.
Speaker BThat's, that's one of their jobs.
Speaker BAnd, and so that's why all the finances go through them.
Speaker BIt doesn't come to us personally, it goes through them.
Speaker BThey hold us responsible.
Speaker BAnd, and then with our sending church, our sending church is Fellowship Bible Church in Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia.
Speaker BThis is a church that I did an internship right out of Bible College, and my wife grew up there.
Speaker BOur ascending church also holds us highly accountable.
Speaker BPeople that are constantly communicating with us.
Speaker BWe have different meetings.
Speaker BWe actually have one coming up this month where we're going to be again meeting with the missions committee, giving them an update on what we're doing so that they can hold us accountable.
Speaker BAnd even with all of the churches and individuals that come along and support us, I believe that.
Speaker BThat there is a biblical aspect to that accountability that they have to us, that those churches are responsible for holding us accountable for what we're doing, how we're using these finances and how we are staying faithful while in Uruguay.
Speaker BAnd we're also, while we're in Uruguay with this Bible College, we're also going to be surrounded by multiple local churches, pastors, different other missionaries as well, that are going to be holding us accountable as well, keeping us faithful.
Speaker BAnd so this is something, you know, we're not just going down there alone, but this is something that is going to be.
Speaker BIt's a team effort from all of our churches, all the people supporting us, as well as the team that we're going to be working with in Uruguay.
Speaker AAnd when you get to Uruguay, you're not just going to be on your own right away.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AYou're going to be partnered up with a more seasoned group of missionaries to be working with them at first, correct?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BOur mission board wants us to, during that transition period, which sometimes can be pretty difficult, you know, getting readjusted to the culture, language, things like that.
Speaker BOur mission board wants us to be working with a more seasoned missionary for the first one to two years.
Speaker BAnd we're going to be working with them.
Speaker BThey're going to be helping us again during the transition time.
Speaker BA lot of the changes that are going to be happening and through all of the process, even like the paperwork process and just getting settled into life there, we're going to be working alongside someone that can help us and that can encourage us and, you know, hold us accountable during that time.
Speaker ASo when you get there, you're gonna.
Speaker AAnd I'm not even going to attempt to pronounce the university.
Speaker AThis is the school.
Speaker ASo f. Febu.
Speaker AI'm gonna let you properly pronounce it because.
Speaker AWell, I don't.
Speaker AI don't even pretend to speak Spanish.
Speaker ABut the.
Speaker AThe college you're going to be going to.
Speaker ATo train people for folks who realize, tell a little bit about what that school's purpose and goals are and how it achieves them.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BSo the Bible college is called FEBU F E B U.
Speaker BAnd it stands for Faculta de Uruguay, which would roughly translate, would be the Uruguayan Bible College.
Speaker BAnd its purpose and goals is really to equip and train the nationals with.
Speaker BWith solid biblical training.
Speaker BAnd they started back in 2014, so it's a relatively new Bible college.
Speaker BAnd they not only are trying to reach the Christians in Uruguay, but they're also trying to reach all the countries in South America with this biblical training with online classes.
Speaker BAnd so they have students from Chile, from Argentina, from Paraguay, I think.
Speaker BAnd so they.
Speaker BThey offer these classes online as well.
Speaker BIt's still pretty small, so they have about probably 20 to 30 students right now online and in person.
Speaker BAnd, you know, when we go back, we really want to try to travel around, be able to visit churches, be able to recruit more students, because we just think it's.
Speaker BIt's a wonderful opportunity that is available there for the people to learn about the Bible.
Speaker ASo, folks, if you are.
Speaker AAre hearing Timo, my encouragement to you is, well, obviously first pray for them.
Speaker AJust picture yourself.
Speaker AI especially am going to say pray for his wife.
Speaker APicture you.
Speaker AHe.
Speaker ATimo is a little bit more familiar with the environment he going into.
Speaker ABut picture having your family always around.
Speaker AYou've always been around your family, and now you're going to pick up and not just move out of the town or out of the county or out of the state, but out of the country.
Speaker ALearn a Whole new language, learn a whole new culture.
Speaker AThat's not an easy thing.
Speaker AAnd so be praying because like I said, not only is she doing all that while pregnant, having a newborn, dealing with that, I mean, these are major, major issues.
Speaker AAnd Timo and Alex are dealing with it together, like all at the same time.
Speaker ALet's just throw everything in at once.
Speaker ASo if they, you know, like, you survive this, everything else in life's just going to be easy.
Speaker ATimo.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ABut if, if it's, if you, God would put it on your heart to be praying for them.
Speaker AAnd as he mentioned, if you, if you want to, if you're on Facebook and you want to follow along, you know, just on Facebook, look for the group.
Speaker AIt's Timo and Alex's prayer group.
Speaker AAnd so there you could find out more details about what they're doing and how you could be praying for them.
Speaker AI think you just had a post not too long ago about some training.
Speaker AYou were just out doing training and you were talking about that, about going.
Speaker AAnd so I, I folks, that's one way that you could be doing is praying in forum.
Speaker AAnd if you're on Facebook, you could find out more about how to pray more effectively.
Speaker AA second thing that I would encourage you, if God puts it on your heart, maybe you can individually donate to get him up to full, the full support he needs so that he will be able to get out there in time and not have delays.
Speaker AHe, he can't.
Speaker BHe.
Speaker AI don't think he's going to be able to go until he's fully supported, Supported or at least close to it.
Speaker ASo if you guys would, if God puts it on your heart to do that, go to biblicalministries.org and just look up Timothy Hawk, H O C K as he said.
Speaker ASo if you can do that.
Speaker AAnother thing may I ask you to consider is if you want, maybe you could talk to your church and their missions board about having Timo come in and be able to present to your church and maybe your church would consider bringing him on as a missionary.
Speaker AAnd then of course, then you would get more reports from him as from the church and they would, they would be blessed.
Speaker AYou'd be blessed.
Speaker ASo may you consider doing that.
Speaker ASo, you know, with that, I just want to encourage you guys to think about that, you know, we can get too focused here in America of what we're doing and just turn a blind eye to what's going on in the rest of the world.
Speaker AAnd yet the rest of the world needs the gospel just as Much as your neighbor does.
Speaker AAnd so God has called Timo and Alex to go somewhere, well, far south from here and to go and pick up and.
Speaker AAnd go to your way.
Speaker AMay you consider supporting them, helping them, and gave you several ways you could do that.
Speaker AAny.
Speaker AAny other things, Timo, that you'd want to share with folks or ways that they could partner alongside you.
Speaker BYeah, I mean, prayer is one of the biggest things that we always ask for when we're visiting churches, visiting people.
Speaker BYou have no idea how much your.
Speaker BYour prayers affect the lives of missionaries.
Speaker BAnd that is.
Speaker BThat is the most important thing.
Speaker BEven if you aren't able to, you know, support us financially, prayer is the.
Speaker BIs the greatest thing that you could do for us, be praying for us.
Speaker BIt's.
Speaker BIt's been this process of getting carried away has been very long.
Speaker BAnd, you know, I know it's.
Speaker BIt's not easy for my wife, Alexa, or, you know, her family, this whole process.
Speaker BAnd, you know, once we get down, you know, we'll have a newborn, there's going to be a lot of transitions.
Speaker BBe praying for us, be praying for all of those things.
Speaker BBe praying for the rest of our support to come in.
Speaker BWe're at about 85% of our support right now, and we are planning on leaving by Christmas of this year.
Speaker BSo I'll be praying for the rest of this year that support can come in.
Speaker BPraying for the churches we're visiting, pray for all the visits that we have to do for travels, for the moving internationally.
Speaker BAnd there's a lot of other things, paperwork that needs to be done beforehand when we get there.
Speaker BBe praying for all of those things.
Speaker BWe really, really appreciate your prayers.
Speaker BPrayers above anything.
Speaker ASo, folks, may you do that.
Speaker AMay you be praying, may you consider supporting.
Speaker ABut I hope that maybe some of you have the idea saying, you know what?
Speaker AI really never thought of missions.
Speaker AMaybe there's something I could do, because some of us have a fear maybe of going out and going to a new country and having to try to share the gospel and lead people to Christ and then plant a church and things like that.
Speaker AAnd here, what you're hearing, Timo being able to do is, yes, he's got to learn the language.
Speaker AWell, he knew the language, but his wife has to learn the language.
Speaker ABut to learn a new language and be able to help locals so they could go into their areas with the gospel, it's.
Speaker AIt's a different way maybe than you've heard of with missions.
Speaker AI think it's a better way, but that's just my opinion, and so may you consider it.
Speaker AMaybe God's putting it on your heart to do that, or maybe God puts it on your heart to support Timo.
Speaker AWe wanted to give you that opportunity to hear about what he's doing and to be able to see how you might be able to come alongside a fellow brother and sister in Christ and be able to serve the kingdom outside of your local community.
Speaker AAnd so I hope this has been encouraging to you.
Speaker AI hope you'll get in touch with him and maybe even some support him.
Speaker AAnd with that, folks, that's a wrap.
