Emanuele Pani (00:01.356)
I want to ask you something. On January 1st of this year, you had a vision. Maybe you wrote it down, maybe you said it out loud, maybe you just felt it in your body. You know that feeling of a new year, a new start, a new version of you that was finally finally going to show up.
Emanuele Pani (00:33.418)
It's October. The second Monday of October by the time this drops. How much of that vision is in your hands right now?
Emanuele Pani (00:46.828)
And if the answer is not as much as I wanted, not as much as I thought I was gonna have, I'm not here to make you feel bad about it. That is never my intention. I'm here to show you exactly why it happened and exactly what to do about it. Starting right now, from this Monday. Not on january first, twenty twenty seven, from today.
Cause the people who changed their lives, the one who actually hit the vision, they don't start on January first. They don't start on Monday either, for that matter. They start in October. They start right now. They start the moment they make the decision. Welcome to CO Mindset episode 18. I'm Emanuele Pani. My friends call me E. Let's get into it.
Emanuele Pani (01:48.569)
So let me tell you what actually happens on January 1st for me, for you, for everybody, really. We wake up and society tells us it's time to set new intentions and to be a new you. This societal way of telling us, giving us permission, really. Like, okay, now you can have some dreams. Like, let's it's all about new you. And so you feel that energy of new beginning and you write the goals and you
Feel the vision and you do the vision board with your family. It's lovely. We cut out little magazines and newspapers and you tell yourself this year is different. This year is the moment you look at yourself in the mirror. You get the new gym clothing, gym shoes. You order some new business cards, a new planner, whatever that looks like for you. And then February arrives.
And the goals are still there, the vision board is still there. Now it's a little dusty.
But the feeling isn't anymore. And without that feeling, without that elevated emotions that we talked about in episode sixteen, the action become inconsistent. And inconsistent actions create doubt. And doubt erodes self-image. And self-image, as we talked about in episode fifteen, snaps back to its thermostat setting.
And by March.
Emanuele Pani (03:26.188)
You're not failing, you're just busy. Moving, active, doing things.
But you're not building. And here's the diagnosis that I want you to sit with.
Emanuele Pani (03:48.396)
You confuse motion with progress. Motion is activity, no doubt.
But progress is advancement towards division. And they're not the same thing. You can be in motion every single day. Emails answered, meetings attended, content posted, tasks completed, networkings events. You're doing all the things and you're making zero progress towards the life that you actually want.
Because motion keeps you busy and progress requires something harder. Progress requires you to become someone your current self is not comfortable being yet.
best way I have to describe it, it's I don't know if you guys remember driving for the first time. And so at the beginning of January first, you go in the fast lane and you're going a hundred miles an hour, and it's the first time you go a hundred miles an hour. And you are excited, but you're also nervous and you can just feel your back start sweating and you're just like, my god, I cannot stay in this lane for so long, and you just move back over to the slower lanes.
That is exactly what happens. And here's the real reason most people don't hold their January vision by October. They were willing to change their schedule.
Emanuele Pani (05:24.942)
But they were not willing to change their identity. And so as we talked about on the show, identity is everything. The schedule follows the identity, the results follow the identity, the life.
follows the identity. And without identity change
Emanuele Pani (05:50.104)
There is only motion, there's only busy, busy, busy.
And so Jim Rohn said Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines practised every day. And he also used to say the inverse, which is failure is a few errors in judgment repeated every day.
And the difference between those two things is not dramatic, it's not a single decision, it's not one big moment. I know we romanticize it, I know we romanticize the big moments, but it's not that. It's accumulation. Every day you wake up, you cast a vote. Not for a goal necessarily, but for an identity. And the person
Who trains every morning is not more disciplined than you. They are the accumulated results of hundreds and hundreds of mornings when they voted for that identity instead of the alternative. And don't get it twisted, they don't enjoy it. I don't enjoy it. I don't enjoy leaving the house half the time I do to go work out.
But it's just part of who I am. It's not a negotiating moment with myself ever. But that wasn't always the case.
Emanuele Pani (07:22.968)
So we need to understand the person building the audience, building the business, building
the life that you want. They're not more talented than you, they're not more lucky than you. Like do you know it rains on on the rich as well? Just when we all have the same circumstances, just what do we make with them? Those people that have what you want, they have just compounded the right vote long enough.
Emanuele Pani (07:59.991)
And here's what makes the compound effect of identity so powerful and yet so dangerous. It works.
It works in both directions. Every day you vote for the new identity, you compound towards it. Every day you vote for the old one, you compound away from it. So think about it like a bank account. Do you want to withdraw from your future self? You gotta deposit towards your future self. You wanna keep withdrawing from your current self, you keep depositing in the current version of you.
And once again, the vote is not always dramatic. Sometimes whatever you open the laptop to dial in a couple work things or the Netflix app or TikTok on your phone. It's whatever you make that call or attempt to make that call and leave a voice message or voicemail. Or you scroll through your phone.
It's whether not you show up to that morning class that you signed up for or choose to sleep through it. None of those individual decisions feel like they matter because they don't matter. And yet that's the trap.
Emanuele Pani (09:28.834)
Because the truth is that they matter more than anything because they are the compound. They are what is building your life. They are the bricks that make up your future house, your future reality, and the road that gets you there. And the compound is the identity and the identity is the life.
And so how do you actually do this not as a concept, as a system, as always? Actionable. my good buddy Mike Schogan will be so proud of me. I've really made a point on this new show to give you guys actionable things as much as esoteric concept that scratch your brain and also give you something to do with all the scratching. And so I want to share with you exactly how I operate because I think the gap.
between a vision and a result is always, always
Emanuele Pani (10:32.32)
A systems problem and not a motivational problem. And again, if you're the person that I talked to this morning, in your case, it's an identity problem and not a systems problem. You have the systems, so don't fool yourself. And so every quarter I do one thing. And this episode came because it's top of mind with my with my clients that I'm talking to right now.
We're doing this, it's just like okay, it's it's October, right? Like what what do we want? And I did it with myself, actually on my way back from Italy. And so I look at my twelve month vision and I reverse engineer it. So I do this at the end of every quarter, I look out twelve months out. So not from January, from now. And so right now, what is my vision twelve months out? Well, I wanna do
Four live events, two in Miami, one in South America, and one in Sardinia. I want a hundred people in my coaching community. I want my first two hotel projects in Europe to be under contract and renovation started. I want to be sub-12 body fat. I want to be 86 kilos, perfect blood work, and yada yada yada. And that is
the twelve month vision. And then I asked myself
Emanuele Pani (12:06.698)
What has to be through in six months for the twelve months vision to be possible?
And then I asked myself, what has to be true in three months for the six months to be possible?
Emanuele Pani (12:22.506)
After that, what has to be true in one month for the three month to be possible? And then the last one, what has to be true this week for the one month to be possible? And then how work that week. Not the year, the week. Because the year is overwhelming.
Emanuele Pani (12:48.866)
And the week is actionable. It's bite size. It's just a little nibble to your vision. But the truth is that a week of needle moving activities compounds into a month. A month compounds into a quarter, a quarter compounds into a year. And at the end of the year, you're not holding a goal. You're holding a life.
Emanuele Pani (13:17.986)
And now here's the critical distinction between this system and the January list. This system assumes you will become a different person while you're executing it. It's a breathing, moving, progressing, alive version of you. And most goal setting assumes your current self will simply do more. This system knows that your current self will need to evolve to get there.
Like the vision that you have 12 months from now, babs, it's impossible to you. A hundred percent. Like you are never gonna hit it staying who you are. And that's the truth. And the evolution, that identity shift is not a side effect of the system. It is the point of the system. As Tony Robbins always says.
Three S's to a breakthrough. We want systems and strategies, but the reality is that it's your story and your state and spirit that influence your ability to use a system. Your identity, your story, influences your ability to use the system. Your identity is the fulcrum of your system. And the events don't make you the person.
who can do the things is becoming the person that creates the opportunity within your life. So in my case, the events don't make you the person who hosts events. Becoming the person who hosts events is what creates the events.
Emanuele Pani (15:07.042)
And so you don't get the life and then become the person.
You get the person and then you get the life. That order is everything.
I want you to really sit with that. You don't get the life and then become the person. You become the person and then you get the life.
Emanuele Pani (15:34.69)
So why today E? It's the middle of October. Starbucks says the pumpkin spice latte is back and I was enjoying my pumpkin spice and here you are, E, like why?
Well, because the people who show up transform on January first, the ones who actually are different and not just revolving or resolving, I should say, resolving to be different, they start in Q four. They use October, November, and December to build the identity that will produce the results of the new year. And where everyone else is winding down and talking about the holidays and coasting through Q four.
To start fresh in January, the CEO, you, that version of you, is compounding quietly, without announcing it, without waiting for permission, without waiting for society to tell you, okay, it's January first, it's time. You can tell us now what it is that you want to create for this year. But tell us right now, if not, you're gonna stay locked into this version of you until the end of twenty twenty seven.
'Cause three months of daily identity vote between now and January first.
Can you think about what compound that would create?
Emanuele Pani (17:03.246)
Three months of your morning practice, three months of your needle moving activities, three months of you showing up as the person you are becoming before the world confirms it.
It would mean that you're s you won't be starting twenty twenty seven in January. You already be three months in. And the person was three months in on January first is not playing the same game as the person who's just beginning.
We understand that, right?
Emanuele Pani (17:46.211)
And so this week, as always, one exercise. I want you to take 30 minutes and sit down with the journal or blank documents, and I want you to write down your twelve month vision. Not as a goal, the vision. Who are you? What have you built? What does your day look like? What have you created? And then reverse engineer it.
Emanuele Pani (18:13.986)
And ask yourself those four question What has to be true in six months? What has to be true in three months? What has to be true in one month? And what has to be true this week?
And then this is the most important part.
Look at your week and ask honestly, are the activities on my calendar needle movers towards that vision? Or am I in motion? Busy busy, active, moving without advancing. Because motion feels like progress, but only progress builds the life.
And so share your 12-month vision. We have a community CEO mindset on school. it's actually becoming the unlearning club. Mean then you're playing around with some concepts, but it's there. So let the community see it. Let us hold you to it. Because a vision shared is a vision with accountability, and accountability is the compounding that most people are missing. And so link is in the show notes.
Before I let you go, as always, if this episode landed, if the motion versus progress distinction hits somewhere real for you, please go to Apple Podcast and leave a five-star review, one line about what this show has done for you, changes everything. And if you know somebody that has kind of been coasting, but you know they have great visions for 2027, send them this. Maybe this is the thing that helps them and helps you create an accountability pod to make 2027 the best year yet.
Emanuele Pani (19:53.859)
And so just a reminder in closing, January 1st is a date. It's not a permission slip. Nobody needs to give you permission. You don't need the calendar to change for you to change. You just need a decision. The kind we talked about in episode 13, made with enough amplitude of energy that your body responds to your mind. The decision that 2027 is not something that happens to you on a specific date. It is something you are
building right now. One vote at a time, one week at a time, one quarter at a time. And while everyone else is winding down.
You're compounding. That is what it means to be the CEO of your life, not waiting for the right moment. Creating it. Q4 starts now. Let's build. Ciao guys.
