There's so many loud voices in this ecosystem of the Internet going, well, you need to do this to go viral.
Cabrina AshleyYou need to do this trend in order to do this.
Cabrina AshleyAnd it becomes too much stuff.
Cabrina AshleyIt's like walking into your house and seeing that it's totally a mess and going, I don't even know where to start because there's so many things here.
Cabrina AshleySo when it comes to creating content that works for you, it's going, what is the smallest viable audience that I can have that's going to get me the results that I need?

Speaker CWelcome back to Podcast Coaching for Kingdom Entrepreneurs.
Speaker CAnd you guys.
Speaker CI am excited to interview Kabrina Ashley with me today.
Speaker CShe is a communication strategist.
Speaker CAnd I, I know we are just coming off of this series of finding your voice and what does that look like?
Speaker CAnd Cabrina is going to be this amazing resource to just tack onto this and really actually get traction from our content creation in our podcast moving forward.
Speaker CSo welcome to the show.
Cabrina AshleyYeah, thanks for having me.
Cabrina AshleyI'm excited to be here.
Speaker CYes.
Speaker CI'm, I'm so excited to learn right along with everybody that is listening.
Speaker CI would love for you to first introduce yourself to us in our audience today.
Cabrina AshleyYeah.
Cabrina AshleySo, hey, everybody, I'm Cabrina Ashley.
Cabrina AshleyI've been in the online space for almost 13 years, which is crazy, and have really seen it go from, oh, you have a website to, oh my gosh, you don't have a website.
Cabrina AshleyAnd it's been really fun to see people grow over the last decade.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so I got into this space totally by happenstance.
Cabrina AshleyI was actually working at Disney full time and planned on having a full career, being the first female CEO at Disney, and then came home to finish college, got married, and seven months later found out was pregnant.
Cabrina AshleyLike, oh no, what do I do now?
Cabrina AshleyBecause I never planned on being a mom that was not part of my five year plan and backtrack and go, well, what does this look like now?
Speaker CYeah.
Cabrina AshleySo I got into the online space by applying for anything that was remote after teaching sign language and having my second child, who then my first was running out the door while I was teaching and I was like, I can't do this anymore.
Cabrina AshleyI'm too thin for this.
Cabrina AshleySo I got hired on by a company that you may have heard of called ConvertKit.
Cabrina AshleyAnd they were like, hey, you know, you don't know how to code.
Cabrina AshleyYou don't know any of these things.
Cabrina AshleyBut we like the fact that you've got Disney on your resume and we can teach you how to code.
Cabrina AshleyWe can't teach you how to be a nice person.
Cabrina AshleyAnd I was like, oh, interesting.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so I put that in the back of my mind of like, okay, niceness.
Cabrina AshleyLike, it works still.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so I ended up learning very, very quickly.
Cabrina AshleyI worked for eight to nine hours a day, and I was like, okay, well, I'm going to teach myself how to code.
Cabrina AshleyBecause that was back when we had to code templates, we had to code emails, we had to do all the things.
Cabrina AshleySo when people were asking me questions, I was like, let me go find out.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so that was the start of my entrepreneurial journey because I was technically a freelancer at this job, which I to me, didn't mean anything.
Cabrina AshleyI was like, I'm an employee of this job, just with a different tax return that I have to do.
Speaker CYeah.
Cabrina AshleyAs people started asking, do you do consulting on the side?
Cabrina AshleyWould you consider helping me a little bit more on this?
Cabrina AshleyBecause I would give just a tiny bit more information than what a customer success person would normally do.
Cabrina AshleySo I was like, ooh, what is this consulting thing?
Cabrina AshleyI mean, I've heard about corporate training and being brought in by corporations to do it, which is what my goal was in college.
Cabrina AshleyBut then I was like, ooh, what is this other thing that I can do?
Cabrina AshleyAnd so I started researching and ended up building a business and then woke up one day and was like, oh, I guess I'm an entrepreneur now.
Cabrina AshleyAnd not really even realizing what I had done in the process of it.
Cabrina AshleySo there was no like, I'm gonna start a business moment.
Cabrina AshleyLike there is for so many people.
Cabrina AshleyI was just like, oh, I'm just trying to survive as a mom and the next single mom.
Cabrina AshleyI'm like, okay, well, what does it look like to be full time in a business, have five munchkins that depend on me and grow in a way that is not me being connected to my screen all the time.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker COh, I know that there's so many moms that resonate with that of like, how do I grow my business and don't.
Speaker CI'm not connected to my phone.
Speaker COh, yeah, you're not alone in that.
Speaker CSo where are you right now?
Speaker CWho do you serve and what is, like, your main message for people?
Cabrina AshleyYeah, so I struggled with this for a really long time, especially because I didn't just wake up one day and decide that I wanted to start a business.
Cabrina AshleyAnd what I figured out over time and seeing all the patterns that happen.
Cabrina AshleyAnd for those people who are listening that are like, I don't know exactly what.
Cabrina AshleyHow to answer this question is, my biggest thing was I wanted to be seen and I wanted to be heard.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so everything I do in my business is to help other people be seen and heard because it's so important in what we do.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so I specifically serve entrepreneurs and teach them how to tell better stories.
Cabrina AshleyHow do we convert, how do we show up authentically?
Cabrina AshleyBut then how do we also do that systematically to where I can take a month vacation and walk away and things still work without me so that I'm the CEO instead of the freelancer doing the work all of the time.
Speaker CYeah, I love that because it was like, such a natural transition for you to see, a need to let it feed into your own passion of being seen, being heard, and being known, which fun fact that is like the undercurrent of my podcast.
Speaker CThat is my tagline, be seen, be heard, be known on internal and external.
Speaker CSo we've got to bring that authentic self and our own process to be able to do that externally.
Speaker CSo I love that you just perfectly brought all of that together.
Speaker CAnd I think it goes so well with, like I was saying in our podcast series, recently, we have been doing a deep dive into finding your voice and storytelling.
Speaker CAnd I think that you do this really well.
Speaker CAnd I love what you say in your bio, from trend chaser to trendsetter.
Speaker CAnd I think that's exactly where everybody who is listening wants to put their stamp of uniqueness in their content creation.
Speaker CAnd which is using your voice, which is being seen, being heard, being known.
Speaker CSo let's dive into that of, like, how can we.
Speaker CHow can we help our podcasters that are listening really tap into that authentic place of content creation?
Cabrina AshleyYeah.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so I've had this conversation a lot lately, especially I've been running a challenge called scene in 13, where it's all about 13 days of just showing up.
Cabrina AshleyAnd one of the things that people have kept coming back to me because I'm asking every single time I run it, what are the things that you're the most afraid of?
Cabrina AshleyAnd they're saying, I'm afraid that I'm not going to be able to show up enough.
Cabrina AshleyI'm afraid that it's going to take up all of my time and, you know, I don't know what to post.
Cabrina AshleyAnd it's because there's so many loud voices in this ecosystem of the Internet going, well, you need to do this to go viral.
Cabrina AshleySo there's a band that actually has a podcast as well called Jukebox the Ghost.
Cabrina AshleyAnd I found it totally by accident, looking for something else and was like, ooh, a podcast.
Cabrina AshleyAnd the first episode they talk about, you only need a thousand to three thousand people.
Cabrina AshleyAnd they've been in this for 15 years.
Cabrina AshleyThey are not the biggest band.
Cabrina AshleyYou probably don't know who they are, but they have made it to where they have a crew, they've got the three guys on band and they've made a full time living doing this.
Cabrina AshleyAre they the biggest person?
Cabrina AshleyAre they Gary Vee or are they Taylor Swift?
Cabrina AshleyNo, but they've done what they needed to do to have the life that they want.
Cabrina AshleyAnd it really comes down to first going, what kind of life do I want?
Cabrina AshleyDo I want to be the biggest and the best like Gary Vee and show up like that?
Cabrina AshleyOr do I want to just have my niche in the world, that this is where I've carved out my.
Cabrina AshleySomebody referred to it one time as the.
Cabrina AshleyMy house in the neighborhood on the Internet.
Cabrina AshleyAnd I've always loved that idea of like, this is my neighborhood.
Cabrina AshleyNot everybody knows where I live, not everybody needs to know where I live.
Cabrina AshleyBut the people who do, we have really good parties here.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so saying, do I want to have that little bit?
Cabrina AshleyBecause not everybody starts a business and wants to necessarily be famous.
Cabrina AshleyThey just want to show up and they want to help the people that they seek to serve.
Cabrina AshleySo answering that question first will then give us a really good idea of what kind of content do we want to create and how much content do we want to create?
Cabrina AshleyBecause if you're like me and you're a one or two person band that's getting out there into the world and you've got just a couple of people under you or you don't have anybody that's employed under you.
Cabrina AshleyYet it's really difficult.
Cabrina AshleyLike, I have to remind people all the time, Gary Vee has 30 people on his social.
Cabrina AshleyOn just his socials, there's 30 humans run his social media.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so if I could just show up like him, if I could just do all these things and then we compare ourselves not knowing that we're comparing apples to oranges.
Speaker CYeah, I love that.
Speaker CAnd it is such a reality check of those influencers, those podcasters, those coaches, the authors.
Speaker CYou don't realize the whole team that goes on behind that whole process.
Speaker CAnd that's part of my story was back in 2016-2020, was I was part of a behind the scenes podcast experience.
Speaker CSo I helped two podcast hosts with their top podcast.
Speaker CBut I was the one that was reading the books, I was the one that was scheduling.
Speaker CThey didn't have time for that.
Speaker CAnd that is totally understandable.
Speaker CAnd just having that reality check of like, yeah, most of the people that are at the top, they've got a whole slew of people to help them with their marketing, their messaging, their content creation.
Speaker CSo, yeah, okay, so recapping, you were saying that first we start with what is the life that we want to live?
Speaker CSo if a podcaster is listening and they're thinking, okay, I don't want to have to be on my phone 24 7, I would love to just record my podcast.
Speaker CI don't have to be on social media longer than I have to.
Speaker CHow do I, how do I work myself backwards from there?
Cabrina AshleySo one of the things that I ask my one on one clients all the time is in our first meeting, we'll go, what kind of life do you want to live?
Cabrina AshleyAnd what would the perfect day look like if everything worked like you wanted it to work?
Cabrina AshleyAnd most people don't ask themselves this question.
Cabrina AshleyThey're just like, well, I just want all these things to be happening without consideration of what it takes to get all those things to happen.
Cabrina AshleySo then we work backwards and we say, okay, well if you want to be posting X amount of times on Instagram or TikTok or Twitter or whatever it is that your platform is, how do we get that done?
Cabrina AshleyAnd so my job as I started as a technologist, so creating tech stacks for entrepreneurs.
Cabrina AshleyAnd what I'll go through is I'll go, what are we using already that we're already paying for?
Cabrina AshleySo do you have ConvertKit?
Cabrina AshleyDo you have something?
Cabrina AshleyOne of my favorite things in the whole world is called Cast Magic.
Cabrina AshleyYou can pop a video into It.
Cabrina AshleyIt will transcribe the whole thing.
Cabrina AshleyIt'll find you those little tidbits of amazingness, and then it will give you captions from that transcription.
Cabrina AshleySo we're not just shoving something into something like ChatGPT and going, Give me a caption for blank.
Cabrina AshleyWe're using your words in order to do it, which is lovely.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so you're gonna have to do a little bit of editing, but that makes the process so much faster.
Cabrina AshleyAnd when I was training my assistant to edit the podcast, I was like, how do I make this so easy that I could get a podcast recorded and then hand it off to her and have her edit it within an hour?
Cabrina AshleyThat was my goal.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so we started to whittle away, and we've got it at about 45 minutes now.
Cabrina AshleyUsing Cast Magic, Cap Cut, and Minvo.
Speaker COh, Menvo.
Speaker CYeah.
Cabrina AshleySo Minvo is actually something that is kind of like those short pieces that Cast Magic does.
Cabrina AshleyOkay.
Cabrina AshleyLittle emojis and sounds and things into the video to keep people engaged, which I absolutely love.
Cabrina AshleyAnd in some I've watched my friends do with bigger and better systems and a person who does all the video pieces, and I'm like, I just don't have the patience or the time for that.
Cabrina AshleySo how do I create enough content in order for me to be seen in the way that I want to?
Cabrina AshleyBecause the great thing about showing up, even if we're showing up in a tiny bit, is that it has interest attached to it.
Cabrina AshleySo if we show up consistently and say, like, as a podcaster, if I say, hey, I have a podcast, here's the kind of person that I have on.
Cabrina AshleyHey, do you know anybody else who's like this that would love to come on?
Cabrina AshleyOh, do you have somebody who you would really like us to talk to?
Cabrina AshleyWhy would you like to talk to that person?
Cabrina AshleyWhat are things that people are not talking about that you wish that they would talk about?
Cabrina AshleyAnd so the more that I have, not just the content that I'm creating, but also those engaging questions, now I'm giving people what they want, but also getting some things that I need of.
Cabrina AshleyMaybe there's that one connection that somebody will say, oh, did you.
Cabrina AshleyHave you ever heard of so?
Cabrina AshleyAnd so?
Cabrina AshleyYou have them on the podcast, and all of a sudden it becomes a wildfire.
Cabrina AshleyI've certain guests that I'm like, I don't know who this person is.
Cabrina AshleyYou have them on and you're like, oh, my gosh, this was amazing.
Cabrina AshleyWhether it was personally for me or all of a Sudden I got a ton of new listeners.
Cabrina AshleyLike, for example, I had a lawyer on my podcast and most people are like, oh, lawyers, that's not going to be fun.
Cabrina AshleyBut he had so many connections and he was a Taylor Swift fan too, so we got along really well and he shared it in his newsletter to his people.
Cabrina AshleyAnd then all of a sudden I had all these lawyers listening to the podcast and I was like, oh.
Cabrina AshleyAnd it changed the way that I was thinking about the people coming on, because the people that were coming on were always important.
Cabrina AshleyBut then you think about the connections beyond that and then people sharing you with other people, that's also you creating content.
Cabrina AshleyBut it's me, it's us making ourselves shareable for other people.
Cabrina AshleyAnd that's what those bite sized things are.
Cabrina AshleyThere was a pastor, and I don't remember what his name was, but he would always say, if it's memorable, it's shareable.
Cabrina AshleyIf it's shareable, it's rememberable.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so it's like, how do we become memorable in a way that's easily shared with other people so that they can basically take it like a little doggy bag after they've had an engagement to the next person?
Speaker CThat's so good.
Speaker CI.
Speaker CIt makes me think of, there's a lot of podcasters that will come and have a conversation with me about Kristen.
Speaker CI just don't know if I have enough content to share.
Speaker CAnd I'm curious how you would respond, because I know that's a common question of how do I continue to keep creating content.
Speaker CWhether it's in your podcast or social.
Cabrina AshleyMedia, you can't pour from an empty cup.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so doing things, watching movies, going places, having experiences, even if it's just like, I know a lot of people fight me on this because they're like, well, then that costs money to go do those things.
Cabrina AshleyIt doesn't have to be anything crazy.
Cabrina AshleyI was at a coffee shop working, actually, and I have this habit of, I always say, look up because all of my friends are really tall and they miss everything that's up because they're always so busy looking down because everybody, we're all kind of, wow.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so I'm always like, look up.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so I'll go to hotels and stuff like that.
Cabrina AshleyAnd they've always got these really cool things on the ceiling and nobody sees it because of the fact that they're.
Cabrina AshleySo this is where I'm going or I'm looking.
Cabrina AshleyI'm just trying to watch my feet go on the path that I'M on.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so I have a habit where I'll look around and I'll see what's around me.
Cabrina AshleyBecause I'm training my brain to look for content.
Cabrina AshleyBecause it's not just about, hey, what is the thing that's happening right now in my business?
Cabrina AshleyWhat am I selling?
Cabrina AshleyIs it a promotion that I'm trying to do?
Cabrina AshleyIt's also, is there something that is interesting to me that I can now hook back to my people?
Cabrina AshleySo in this coffee shop on the wall, they had all these different things.
Cabrina AshleyIt was very eclectic.
Cabrina AshleyAnd there was a tiny little box about this big.
Cabrina AshleyAnd it said, leave a note.
Speaker COh.
Cabrina AshleyAnd I was like, okay.
Cabrina AshleyNot expecting there to be anything in this box sitting there.
Cabrina AshleyMy friend had come to sit at coffee and work with me.
Cabrina AshleyAnd I open up this little tab and all these notes fall out all over the table and into my hands.
Cabrina AshleyOh, my word.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so I'm picking them up, trying to go, oh, my gosh, like, these are people's, like, secrets and memories and things.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so I sat there and I read through each individual one.
Cabrina AshleySome of them were encouraging.
Cabrina AshleySome of them were like a note to self to come back to and to keep space for a while.
Cabrina AshleyAnd it was really cool to see the probably 50 different notes that people had shoved into this tiny thing on the wall.
Cabrina AshleyBut if you paying attention, you wouldn't even see.
Cabrina AshleyAnd then this.
Cabrina AshleyMy brain goes, what is this?
Cabrina AshleyLike, this is just like in our business when we don't pay attention to those comments that we're getting on our posts because people are leaving us little secrets of the things that they want and the things that they need from us where we can show up in different ways.
Cabrina AshleyThe notes on the wall had nothing to do with my business, but because I asked myself, what is this?
Cabrina AshleyLike, I was able to bring it back around.
Cabrina AshleyAnd it wasn't content that I was necessarily looking for on purpose.
Cabrina AshleyIt was something that happenstance came to me because of the fact that I was willing to have my eyes open to things around me.
Speaker CI think that's so powerful and just a testament of being present with where we're at.
Speaker CAnd like you mentioned at the very beginning of that story, was being open to getting out of your routine.
Speaker CBut even in the routine, you can find beautiful lessons and metaphors and.
Speaker CBut I, I just, I love that.
Speaker CBecause you were open to really contemplating, like, what, what is a lesson here?
Speaker COr what am I learning in this moment that I could bring back to my listeners or my clients, wherever you want to insert that.
Speaker CBut I think that's so important that we miss that.
Speaker CAnd I.
Speaker CThere's something that I say to, like, my podcast members is to keep a Notes app in your phone where it's like an emotional story, a funny story, a life lesson story, like, if any of those things happen, to write it down right away so you don't forget.
Speaker CAnd we've lost that art, I think.
Speaker CAnd it's an invitation now as we're.
Speaker CWe're moving into 2025, where, you know, there's so much content always being created out there, and what a beautiful opportunity to just pause and actually go inward and, you know, don't pour from an empty cup, is what you said of like, okay, what am I learning for myself?
Speaker CInstead of let me go consume more information to turn around and spit out, but more of an internal reflection of, like, what is life and its lessons giving me in.
Speaker CIn my own experience that I could help another person.
Cabrina AshleyWell, and here's the thing.
Cabrina AshleyA lot of people have come to me and they're like, well, what about AI and creating all this content?
Cabrina AshleyAnd there's so much stuff out there and it's so noisy.
Cabrina AshleyThis is the one kind of content that AI cannot duplicate.
Cabrina AshleyIt cannot talk like this because it's not going to see the.
Cabrina AshleyWhat is this?
Cabrina AshleyLike, just like you're saying with the Notes app, I have all my clients put it into a spreadsheet of here's the story.
Cabrina AshleyAnd then there's a whole line that says, this is like.
Cabrina AshleyAnd then what?
Cabrina AshleyIt's like.
Cabrina AshleyAnd then I always tell people, you have a story, something happened, and it made you go, oh.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so how do you find those stories?
Cabrina AshleyIf I would tell my spouse about it, if I would call my mom or my best friend about it, it goes into the spreadsheet because I might not know yet what that story connects to.
Speaker CYeah.
Cabrina AshleyAnd then something will happen and I'll go, oh.
Cabrina AshleyAnd then the more you do this, the easier it gets to not always put it in the spreadsheet, but to just remember.
Cabrina AshleyBut having it there now I can go back and say, hey, oh, yeah.
Cabrina AshleyRemember that story when such and such happened?
Cabrina AshleyAnd it made me feel this way because that's the other piece that AI can't do it can't go, I feel this way about the situation.
Cabrina AshleyPeople feel the same feeling about this situation.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so now we're comparing feelings versus the thing that's happening.
Cabrina AshleySo if I want to do something with a story of I need people to buy now the story that I'm going to start looking to pick is something like a story where I didn't buy now and I had regrets about it.
Cabrina AshleySo if you have bees out on your porch and you know that you need to buy some spray to get rid of them, but then you don't, you go try and do it yourself.
Cabrina AshleyThat's a.
Cabrina AshleyI tried to do it myself and it wasn't that I could diy.
Speaker CYeah.
Cabrina AshleyI needed to call a professional and to do it.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so that's why people should buy now.
Cabrina AshleySo I'm thinking about the interaction and the emotion that's coming straight through versus a story that may reflect.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so those are two different kinds of ways that we can tell stories that AI is not going to be able to and people are going to go, ooh, it doesn't ask me if I'm doing well in the email or it doesn't say any of those lists of words that we're like, ooh, that's very much AI.
Speaker CHmm.
Speaker CYes, I know.
Speaker CI feel like I have an AI sniffer of like and it's so great in some aspects.
Speaker CBut I love that you're, you're explaining more of like.
Speaker CIt's.
Speaker CThe AI lacks emotion and that human to human connection, which is so important, especially as podcasters.
Speaker CAnd I want to, like, shift into a little bit deeper into the story aspect of content creation because I think in trying to establish, like, finding your voice, finding the stories that resonate with your audience, there is an art to storytelling.
Speaker CSo what are some of those things that you find in your coaching and your consulting that is helpful for somebody who is creating content to really learn how to tell a good story?
Cabrina AshleySo one of the.
Cabrina AshleyThere's a couple of things.
Cabrina AshleyThe first thing is if it's bleeding, don't talk about it.
Cabrina AshleyBecause if you're still going through it, you need to have healed from at least that section that you're about to talk about before you start sharing it on the Internet.
Speaker CYeah.
Cabrina AshleyBecause think about if you were saying this on stage in front of people.
Cabrina AshleyWe don't want you to re traumatize yourself or traumatize other people from the fact that you haven't made it through it.
Cabrina AshleySo that's always rule number one.
Speaker CYeah.
Cabrina AshleyRule number two is if you're afraid to tell your own personal stories and you're trying to practice, tell these tiny stories that we were just talking about.
Cabrina AshleyLike, one of the things that I do with my clients is I'm like, find something obnoxious like a pen and tell me a story.
Cabrina AshleyAbout this.
Cabrina AshleyIt could be anything.
Cabrina AshleyAnd you would be impressed with how creative people get like all.
Cabrina AshleyThey're like, oh, this is what it's like.
Cabrina AshleyAnd here's this thing that reminded me of this.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so their brain is putting things together that by the end of it, you're like, oh, I see how you got there.
Cabrina AshleyBut I would have never gotten there myself.
Cabrina AshleyThank you for guiding me through that.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so those are some ways that you can start doing stories.
Cabrina AshleyAnd then the third way as you're practicing is called a three act play.
Cabrina AshleySo where was I?
Cabrina AshleyWhere what was the transition point and where am I now?
Cabrina AshleyAnd so consistently using that three act play of what does this look like each step of the way?
Cabrina AshleySo that I can say, like, testimonials are a great example of this.
Cabrina AshleyWhere were you before you started doing the work?
Cabrina AshleyWhat happened when you started doing the work that ideally that person has paid you for?
Cabrina AshleyAnd then where are you now that you've gone through that?
Cabrina AshleyAnd what are the successes that you've seen?
Cabrina AshleyAnd we see this a lot.
Cabrina AshleyIt's actually one of the more common ones that we see.
Cabrina AshleyEven when you're not realizing that you're doing it, because it's so natural for us to go through that progression.
Cabrina AshleyMost movies go through a three act play progression, which is just a smaller version of the Joseph Campbell hero's journey.
Cabrina AshleyThere's actually 12 steps on the hero's journey.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so when you're looking at each individual step, it can get a little overwhelming.
Cabrina AshleyUnless you're writing a full book.
Speaker CYeah, yeah.
Speaker COh, that's so helpful.
Speaker CThis is so great.
Speaker CI just love how practical it is for us as podcasters to just sit down and really think intentionally.
Speaker CI think that's where this whole message is, is just being intentional about the content that you are creating.
Speaker CSo, okay, so going with the storytelling and moving along the line of a funnel, because you as a podcaster, you want to connect with your audience, you want to connect with your listeners.
Speaker CSo how do you take them from story to connection?
Speaker CWhether that's, you know, ConvertKit email or, you know, buying your product or coaching or Facebook group, How do you do that?
Cabrina AshleyWell, yeah.
Cabrina AshleySo having done the speaker coaching for so long and watching people get on stage and try and sell from stage, I'm a big believer in let's get them on your email list because we can always remarket to them.
Cabrina AshleyIf I have their email address, I can remarket to them in my email, but then I can also run ads directly to them based on that.
Cabrina AshleyEmail.
Cabrina AshleyAnd I can find lookalike audiences and all kinds of really cool things about that.
Cabrina AshleySo making it a mixture of that 80, 20, 20% directly selling, saying, hey, here's what's happening.
Cabrina AshleyEspecially when you're in the middle of a launch, maybe you have a course that you're selling from your podcast going, hey, this course is live.
Cabrina AshleyBecause we know that podcasts last a lot longer than other things.
Cabrina AshleyGetting that, making sure that that page goes to a waitlist as soon as that's over.
Cabrina AshleySo that as soon as people get in, they're getting on the waitlist or they're buying.
Cabrina AshleySo that's one piece for the actual course.
Cabrina AshleyBut then what kind of freebie are you giving away that gives value and not just like a checklist, but I mean, like massive value.
Cabrina AshleyBecause how you do one thing is how you do everything.
Cabrina AshleyAnd if I can make sure that you get into something and you're like, oh my gosh, that was really good, I got some really good wisdom pieces there.
Cabrina AshleyNow I want to work with you more.
Cabrina AshleySo I tend to lean my clients more towards video.
Cabrina AshleyBecause we know psychologically when we see somebody's face and we hear their voice, all of a sudden we're more inclined to feel like we know them.
Cabrina AshleyThis is why YouTubers and actors, we feel like if you come across Ryan Reynolds in the street, you're going to go, oh my God, Ryan.
Cabrina AshleyAnd he's going to go, I have no idea who you are.
Cabrina AshleyBut we feel like we know him because we've watched his movies, his videos, his content, and we've watched him grow as a business owner.
Cabrina AshleyAnd so how do we create that same thing with people?
Cabrina AshleyAnd we can't do it just through text.
Cabrina AshleyThat's why podcasts are so amazing, because we've got video, we've got audio, and now we can take that content and chop it up into tiny pieces so that people can get to know us, whether they're getting us from the full piece of content or just the small one.
Cabrina AshleyAnd going, hey, here's how you listen to the podcast.
Cabrina AshleySo let's say you have an hour long podcast and you chop it up into 10 different little segments, giving some of those segments the, hey, come listen to the rest of the podcast.
Cabrina AshleyAnd then a few of them have.
Cabrina AshleyThat makes sense.
Cabrina AshleyHere's the freebie that this attaches to.
Cabrina AshleyWant to learn more how to do storytelling, for example.
Cabrina AshleyHere's the freebie that this goes to.
Cabrina AshleyBecause now my goal is to get them on the email list because they've Just met me, I think biggest mistakes that people make, especially in the online space, because we get sick of hearing ourselves talk about the things that we're doing.
Cabrina AshleySo, like, everybody knows what I'm doing when nobody knows.
Cabrina AshleyI have a friend who runs a conference and he's been running this conference for 10 years.
Cabrina AshleyAnd even this last year, when I was helping put some things together, people were emailing him and going, what's the thing?
Cabrina AshleyTell me more about what that is.
Cabrina AshleyAnd he's like, you know, it's only the thing I've been doing for a decade that I talked about all the time.
Cabrina AshleyAnd it was a reminder of, oh, not everybody who knows knows what we're doing.
Cabrina AshleyAnd these are people that talk to him on a weekly basis who should have known what that thing is, but it just had never come up in conversation.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker COh, that's such a good reminder of, yeah, not everybody understands what you do.
Speaker CAnd to reiterate that fact over and over again of this is who I help, this is what I do.
Speaker CThis is the payoff of working with me or listening to my podcast.
Speaker CThat's so helpful.
Speaker COkay, so I'm going to throw a question to you by being on many podcasts and you being a podcast host, what is something that you wish podcasters did differently or invite them into in 2025?
Cabrina AshleyI'd love to see more podcasts, really give their guests what they need at the front end.
Cabrina AshleyBecause a lot of times we're expecting people to go do all this extra work when they've already given us their time to show up and be our guest.
Cabrina AshleySo one of the things that I implemented at the beginning of 2024 was I'm going to give you a piece of copy, I'm going to give you an image, and then I'm going to cut all the small videos for you.
Cabrina AshleyWhat you decide to do with those is up to you, but it gives you all the resources.
Cabrina AshleyBecause I always ask myself, how do I make this idiot proof?
Cabrina AshleyBecause I started to have.
Cabrina AshleyAnd not that anybody is an idiot, but I had my kids asking me, how can I help?
Cabrina AshleyHow can I come into the business and do the things?
Cabrina AshleyAnd I was like, well, I have to make it easy enough that my 10 and 8 year olds could figure it out.
Cabrina AshleyAnd when you do that for people, even though they're the smartest people, we've talked about that, we talked about this a little bit before the podcast started, is people are busy, overwhelmed, and they're trying to get all the stuff done.
Cabrina AshleyAnd because they don't have people on their team yet.
Cabrina AshleyThere's too many things to do.
Cabrina AshleySo if I say, hey, here's all the things.
Cabrina AshleyI'll tag you in it when I post, then at the least, they can just reshare it.
Cabrina AshleySo making sure that you have all the assets that you want to give your people, but then making sure that you tag them and that you're promoting it just as much as you want somebody else to promote it.
Cabrina AshleyBecause you'd be surprised how many times I'm on a call with a new podcaster and I'm like, can you please.
Cabrina AshleyHere's a sop on how to do all of these things, because it really helps your guests out.
Cabrina AshleyAnd then your guests are going to be the one who's like, oh, here's somebody else.
Cabrina AshleyBecause that's the other question that I always ask at the end of my podcast.
Cabrina AshleyIs there anywhere else that you think that I would be a good fit for or somebody that you would want to suggest to be on my podcast based on our conversation today?
Cabrina AshleyNow I'm not doing the work to find my podcast guests anymore.
Cabrina AshleyI almost never go and look for podcast guests or post in any groups anymore because of the fact that I have podcast friends that go, katrina, I just had the best conversation with so and so you definitely need to have them on your podcast.
Cabrina AshleyOr I have people coming to me and saying, hey, this would be really good.
Cabrina AshleyAnd making.
Cabrina AshleyThat's another piece of being seen in the marketplace and getting your content out there.
Cabrina AshleyBecause then people go, oh, that's a good place for you to go speak.
Cabrina AshleyOh, that's a good podcaster.
Cabrina AshleyAnd then it gets you on more stages, too.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CSo good.
Speaker CAnd you were a case in point because I heard you on another podcast and was like, I need her on my show.
Speaker CBecause I knew you would bring all of this incredible value to our episode today.
Speaker CSo if people want to work with you moving forward, which I know people will, because you are, you just shine this.
Speaker CThis gift of helping people create content that is really authentically them, what is a good way for them to get in touch with you?
Cabrina AshleyYeah, absolutely.
Cabrina AshleySo I actually have a really short course that you can do in about an hour called Mic Drop Message, and it's at mike drop message.com and there's a download for it that gives a couple more story ways to tell stories beyond the two that we talked about today.
Cabrina AshleySo there's the way to tell a Pixar story, for example, in there of what does it look like to really tell these in a way that makes sense, that doesn't feel robotic after you've done them for a while.
Cabrina AshleyAnd that's mostly I get bored and so I want to.
Cabrina AshleyI wanted to mix it up for you because I was mixing it up for me, but that's mike drop message.com and then I hang out over on Instagram and LinkedIn and it's just a brina.
Cabrina AshleyAshley.
Speaker COkay, awesome.
Speaker CWell, I just appreciate all of what you shared today and I know it's going to be helpful as we move into 2025 for all of us to really be content creators from the heart.
Speaker CI mean that's really essentially what it is.
Speaker CIt's really heart centered content creation and storytelling within our podcast which makes that true impact.
Speaker CSo thank you so much for being here today.
Cabrina AshleyThank you for having me.
