Hey hey, this is Shaun with the GoTennis! Podcast powered by Signature Tennis.
Speaker:Today's tennis tip comes from Ben Hesley of Bull Shark Sports.
Speaker:Have a listen and let us know what you think.
Speaker:Hi, this is Ben Hesley from Bull Shark Sports.
Speaker:Today's tip is about off-court conditioning.
Speaker:B-Athletes like to run long distances as a form of general conditioning.
Speaker:But when we're thinking specific to tennis, this may not be a good idea.
Speaker:Because running long distances works a different cardiovascular system that is required for
Speaker:tennis.
Speaker:Tennis is about short bursts of energy, followed by short breaks.
Speaker:So you want to train that way.
Speaker:This time you're out for a run, think about running short sprints, say 20 to 50 yards, and
Speaker:then jog or walk for 20 to 50 yards before sprinting again.
Speaker:You can also do this with time.
Speaker:Run as hard as you can for 10 to 20 seconds, and then walk for 10 to 20 seconds before sprinting
Speaker:again.
Speaker:These type of intervals is what is very similar to playing a tennis match.
Speaker:So the next time you go out for a run and get in shape for tennis, think about how a tennis
Speaker:match is played and try to match up your running to that.
Speaker:Hope that helps and keeps you in shape, good tennis shape on the court this season.
Speaker:Well, there you have it.
