Speaker:

Have a listen and let us know what you think.

Speaker:

Hi, this is Ben Hesley from Bull Shark Sports.

Speaker:

Today's tip is about off-court conditioning.

Speaker:

B-Athletes like to run long distances as a form of general conditioning.

Speaker:

But when we're thinking specific to tennis, this may not be a good idea.

Speaker:

Because running long distances works a different cardiovascular system that is required for

Speaker:

tennis.

Speaker:

Tennis is about short bursts of energy, followed by short breaks.

Speaker:

So you want to train that way.

Speaker:

This time you're out for a run, think about running short sprints, say 20 to 50 yards, and

Speaker:

then jog or walk for 20 to 50 yards before sprinting again.

Speaker:

You can also do this with time.

Speaker:

Run as hard as you can for 10 to 20 seconds, and then walk for 10 to 20 seconds before sprinting

Speaker:

again.

Speaker:

These type of intervals is what is very similar to playing a tennis match.

Speaker:

So the next time you go out for a run and get in shape for tennis, think about how a tennis

Speaker:

match is played and try to match up your running to that.

Speaker:

Hope that helps and keeps you in shape, good tennis shape on the court this season.

Speaker:

Well, there you have it.
