Hey everybody, welcome back to another edition of the Daily Bible Podcast. Happy Saturday and men, we want to see you this morning. To learn about irreproachability. Irreproachability is what we're calling it. Irreproachability. It sounds like we're speaking in tongues. Not quite, but yes, you should come and hear the tongues of men talk about irreproachability. Yeah. Give us a high view. What is irreproachability? It is the quality of being above approach. So it's the same idea captured in a different word, but above approach is the kind of person who lives with character integrity. In fact, We liked this topic so much that we're developing a whole, a whole men's retreat around the idea. So this is going to be your sample pack, your teaser into the whole weekend that we plan on doing for you in a couple months. But this is going to be your entry into that, the foray into that. But it's important because this is what First describes the quality of a qualified man. This is what Paul says to Timothy and to Titus should characterize the kind of man that's in leadership. Now you might say, I'm not a pastor. I'm not aspiring to be a pastor. However, the pastors are meant to be these things so that the church would be these things. They're meant to be models for everybody else to follow, which is why we're telling you. You ought to aim to be qualified even if you never become a pastor at compass or any other church So these qualities are important for us to talk about we want you to be encouraged by them We want you to be challenged by them and we think this first one's going to do that Is that? Let's take the, the quality able to teach. Is that one that you would still say, man, every, every man out there should strive after that, that qualification. Okay. You're qualified. Yes. No pun intended, but yes, because a man, okay. If, if a man is, I'm going to lead a family. If he's going to even be helpful in his workplace or even go to school and try to work with other groups, I think it's a really helpful thing to aspire to because it translates to so many other areas of one's life. Most immediately, you can think about your family life. You being able to communicate your thinking, your, your desiring to your wife and to your kids will really help esteem your leadership. It will help solidify and clarify your leadership if your family can say, Dad taught us and here's what he's saying about this particular thing. This is not just for pastors. All men are called to lead their families. And so it's really helpful if a man is gifted and, and even more than that, gifting speaks about someone's natural tendency skill speaks about someone's effort and work into learning a particular thing. So even if you're not gifted, you could still have the skill of teaching. You may not have it in spades like someone else does, but you can still learn to teach and still be helpful to the people that you love and lead. So absolutely a man should aspire to that. That's helpful. That's good. Yeah. Hey I have beef with you. Oh, I'm ready. I'm looking around and noticing that I feel like you have scrubbed your birthday from all of our resources that we would have available to find out when your birthday is. That's not true. I, so I hide it on my social media cause I don't think it's necessary. Okay. I feel like it's one of those things where people feel obligated to say something. And so I'm like, I don't want to, I don't want to, Put an obligation on you. I'll just take it out. So on my, my Facebook, I think that's the most obvious place I hide it and I don't allow posting on my wall. So sue me. Okay. What about planning center planning center? I, I, I re I recently took it out. Cause I'm thinking, you know, again, I don't want to create obligation or thing not set well. And the thing is you can, I've not hidden it all my life. I'm okay with telling people about it. I'm not, Against it. I just don't want to put the obligation on people to say, Oh, I got to make sure to say something to Pastor Rod. So here's my pushback. My pushback is this. When people are reminded of your birthday, they're given an opportunity to be grateful for you. And the one that receives the Thanksgiving for you and your life and the impact that you've made on people's lives is God. Sure. So there's an opportunity for people. To say, you know what? Oh, it's Pastor Rob's birthday today. I'm grateful for him. He's impacted me in a great way. For example, on Facebook, like, you left a lot of connections, a lot of relationships back in AV, and not all of them do you keep up with on a regular basis, but you've impacted a lot of people back there who, If they get on Facebook and they're like, Oh, it's Pastor Rod's birthday today. It's an opportunity for them to reflect on what God's done through your life in impacting them. Sure. And I guess I would, I'd be happy to admit that I'm a bit of a hypocrite here because I would gladly encourage other people. Hey, keep it out there. People want to know, people want to care for you. Yada, yada, yada. I'm also sensitive though, that I get a lot of attention just by writing my position, right? We, we, people look at us, they talk to us. They, they see us in certain lights and in certain ways. And that's good. That's good that we lead and we're self consciously doing that. But I'm also aware. I don't want to draw unnecessary attention. I already asked for a lot of attention when I stand up in front of a pulpit and say things, or when I'm behind a microphone and I'm singing things and I'm having other people sing things with me. So I just, I don't know. It's probably a personality quirk more than it is a principled, Stance that I, that I have that I just, I don't want to create more attention than is necessary. Okay. Well, you got attention on the podcast now. Well, thank you. I appreciate that. Yeah. Anyways, we're grateful for you and it's a big one coming up too Yeah, it's been kind of an existential crisis of sorts. I just bought a harley Okay, i'm getting my motorcycle license. I'm getting a tattoo. I sky sky dovid sky dovid No, I don't plan on doing that I've done none of those things honestly, but I am aware I just think about man 40 years is a great gift I'm appreciative of that And I am More dogged and determined than ever to make my life count for something. I don't want to waste it So I I feel the pressure of man. This is a big one. Am I doing am I on the right track? Am I doing the right thing? Am I using my life in the way that god would be pleased by? I ask myself that pretty regularly, but this is a big one. So I feel the weight of it. Yeah Yeah. Yeah. I remember when I turned 40. It was a long time ago, man, that it was decades ago, I think that you turned, I wear 60 really well. You did. You crush it. Your beauty skincare routine. All the ladies are asking, you know, everybody wants to, everybody's been asking. All right. X is 2829. Our scripture reading for the, for the day. Chapter 28, this chapter details the garments that were to be made for Aaron and his sons. These were more than elaborate costumes, as they held a lot of symbolism regarding the role that Aaron was performing. They had the names of the tribes of Israel show up multiple times on these garments inscribed in the various things that he was going to wear when he went in before the Lord. And it was in, in order that he would be reminded every time that he was bearing the, the people before the Lord, he was interceding on behalf of the people he was representing. He was mediating between God and the nation. And so having the names of the tribes on his shoulders and on the chest plate would always remind him of the fact that he was in there to do more than just cover his own sins or more than, than just intercede on behalf of a nation without God. Much thought as to who made up that nation He was being reminded that these are god's people and these are god's tribes And that's who he's going in there on behalf of and then on top of that He's wearing a turban and the turban had a placard right on the front of it that said holy to the lord which is cool and and Terrifying as well, right? I mean just the the responsibility of the leaders of the the priest there to be sanctified to live a holy life we're going to see what happens with natav and abihu not too Far away from this but they were not Holy to the Lord. And we're gonna see that that doesn't go well for them. But there's a lot of symbolism there. This is not just, Hey, we want something to look fancy. This is, there's a reason for what God is doing with these these articles of clothing that the prince was supposed to wear. The priest was supposed to wear the prince, huh? Prince priest. Okay. Well there will be a prince and a priest. That is true that to speak of later on. I think one of the things that stands out here is the, for glory and for beauty. I think that's really cool. It's a really cool idea that god isn't just interested in a utilitarian existence He wants us to enjoy and experience his glory in some mitigated fashion So he speaks to us he condescends to us by saying look i'm going to have you design these garments for glory And for beauty and I think that's really Important and powerful as we think about that today. We're not priests. We're not priestesses We're we're we're New Testament Christians, but I still think the principle applies that God loves beauty and glory and therefore we should aspire to make our places, our homes, our churches, glorious and beautiful in some way, shape or form. It doesn't have to look like the temple. I'm not saying that, but I think there is a principle there that God loves beauty. He designed it and he wants to reflect it. Yeah. So you mentioned we're not priest. We're not priestesses. Yeah. It's obviously that that is that terminology that language is abused in the mormon church and in different ways But even in amongst christians, sometimes you'll hear the priesthood believers and you know sometimes the those that are in the family family Family ministry camp or whatever. We'll talk about the the husband or the man of the house priest of his home Yeah, talk about that a little bit. Is that? Is that okay? Do we press that too far? What? Probably in our camps And our demographic with our people, the reformed camp in particular, I think we probably use it in a wrong way. And we, we apply something that's right and good in a, in a wrong application. And sometimes we do that with a lot of theology, we'll take good theology and misapply it, and therefore we'll make it bad theology. In this case, here's what I mean by that. The priesthood of all believers is this concept presented by Peter that says, look, none of you have to have a mediator to take you to God. You can go to God by yourself. He's provided the path for you. He is your great high priest, and he's now paved the way by his blood so that you now have direct access to God and therefore. You're part of the kingdom of priests. You are now given free and direct access to God. I love that and I think that's worth all of us celebrating and thanking God for even fist pumping about But when it comes to us being the priests of our families That's a misappropriation of this old testament tax, and I think it doesn't it doesn't help clarify what God is doing under the new covenant In fact, it distorts it the clarification comes when we recognize the priesthood rule is to mediate someone between God and man You You now don't need a mediator. You are a priest. You're you're mediated between god and man You have direct access and you can go to god on behalf of others You can pray for the lost you can pray for your children You can pray for lots of people and in that way you function as a priest But you're not this kind of priest and you shouldn't think of yourself in this kind of in this kind of way Although you can say look i'm so thankful that I have direct access I don't have to wear the ephod. I don't have to wear the cool breastplate Although I think these are really neat objects. I have direct access to god. I think that's the point What would you say to that? Yeah, I would agree. I I think the danger is it leads your family. It compartmentalizes your family and makes it something separate from the church. As though, you know, well, I have the primary responsibility for the spiritual oversight of my family and you make that As something that exists outside of the body of christ competing with the body of christ competing with yeah And that you're not going to find anywhere in the new testament. In fact, you'll find quite the opposite. We are called to Be a part of the body of christ and by extension our families need to be part of the body of christ. So I I get hesitant when I hear, you know, well, i'm the priest in my house I I think it's usually well intended when people say that. Yeah, but I think You It's not helpful terminology. Yeah, you as the head of the household, when it comes to the Bema seat of Christ, you're going to have to give an account for how you spiritually led your family. A hundred percent. And a big part of that, Jesus is going to want to know, did you lead your family into my bride? Did you teach your family to love my bride? And so that's, that's important. So I would agree with your assessment of that. Chapter 29, then we get into the ordination process of Aaron and his sons includes a lot of death here. And I think that's on purpose on God's part, because it's reminding Moses and Aaron and his sons and the people of of the what's at stake here, that atonement has to be made. And this, you know, it's, it's so helpful to, to have the new Testament, to have the book of Hebrews, to look back at passages like this and to say, you know, Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, they were sinners. They needed the blood of bulls and goats to atone for their sins before they could intercede for behalf of the people. But we have a high priest who doesn't need those things who brought his own blood and he was sinless. And so there's so much richness that we get. We talked, I think, in yesterday's episode about illusions and, and illusions. And the Old Testament, New Testament, there's ways that the New Testament really helps us get a much better understanding of the Old Testament. And that's a great example. When you read the book of Hebrews and then you read what's going on here. In fact, if you're hungry for more Bible right now, as we go through the law, if you went through the book of Hebrews, I think that would be so enriching for you because the good call. Yeah. The book of Hebrews just adds such a helpful depth to our understanding of what God's doing here and how it's really pointing in a lot of it to to the coming of Christ. Yeah, Hebrews. Yeah, it's super, super good, super helpful there. The, the different offerings that are going to be mentioned here, you're going to see the sin offering, the burnt offering, the food offering. There's the, the consecration, the blood on the earlobes and the toes, which again was probably what, what they would hear, what they would listen to and the things that they would do, where they would go just consecrating their, their life. Talks about future ordinations, talks about a celebratory meal there, the seven days of ordination, consecration, all the instructions again, because this is brand new for what God is doing here with the people of Israel. Yeah. And I think that that whole week long event, you read this and you think, Oh yeah, this must have taken all of like, Three or four hours. This took seven days. Yeah, they did this for seven days. And so this is interesting because you wonder what's in the white space. We read what's happening here, and this is all symbolic. And I'm sure that it was done with great pomp and circumstance, but you wonder, okay, I, we talked about this the last time we came over these texts. Did they go to the bathroom? Did they leave the premises at all? We know that God sees Bathroom usage. Let's keep it pc here as at least unclean So there had to have been exceptions to the rule here about how long they were on the temple or the tabernacle premises And what they left for and when they came back The point isn't to detail all of these things. I find it interesting to think about them But the point is to show look how much effort and time was put into consecrating these men To function as priests for the people of israel. This was no small job. This is a great honor And it was important it was probably the most important role in In israel at the time and it would carry that same connotation and significance throughout their history Until the coming of christ who became a priest after the order of melchizedek, which is so cool This is you have to read this stuff to appreciate jesus role And I think this is worth it trudging through the mud of some of like what does this mean? What is the symbolic nature of this is worth it? Because when you get to jesus it gives you so much more appreciation for him rather than saying. Oh, yeah He's a priest fantastic Yeah. I agree. I agree. Well, let's pray. And then we'll be done with this episode. God, we are grateful for how you've caused the Bible to be put together in such a way as to give us such a greater appreciation by understanding the New Testament so that we can more deeply understand and appreciate the Old Testament, like the book of Hebrews with what we're reading through right now. We're grateful that we have the, the great high priest and not a human being that we are going to anymore. But Jesus. And so help us to have that not just appreciation, but help us to lean into that in our relationship with you to draw near through him who is able to save us to the uttermost and to be grateful for that as well. So we thank you for this. We praise you for this in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Keep reading your Bibles. Tune in again tomorrow for another edition of the Daily Bible Podcast. Bye yo! Bye.
