Foreign.
Speaker BIt's around the house.
Speaker AOn this episode of around the house.
Speaker AThis hour, we are in the dull tile booth at design and Construction Week 2020, 25.
Speaker CThis type of media, the podcast where it's like, where else are people going to hear this type of stuff until you've done it wrong?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CAnd then you paid for it.
Speaker CNow you're like expert, then you know, but like, this is where you get that.
Speaker CListen to stuff like this and you just learn and absorb so many things that you might not know it even existed.
Speaker AResearch, ask questions, talk to friends.
Speaker AWhat worked, what didn't work, what would you do different on your next install, your next project, your next remodel this.
Speaker BHour is brought to you by my friends at Monument Grills.
Speaker BIf you're looking for that brand new barbecue this spring, check them out@monument grills.com.
Speaker AWhen it comes to remodeling or renovating your home, there is a lot to.
Speaker BKnow and we have got you covered.
Speaker AThis is around the house.
Speaker BWelcome to the round the house show, the next generation of home improvement.
Speaker BGentlemen, thanks for joining me today.
Speaker BWe are out here at one of the most amazing events in the world for kitchen and bath.
Speaker BAnything inside your house, whether you're looking at H vac or the most beautiful tile in the world.
Speaker BAnd speaking of that, we are over here in dal tile with two of my favorite people.
Speaker BPatrick, let's start out with you first and we'll get to Chip in a second, but let's introduce you.
Speaker BThanks for coming on around the house.
Speaker AI appreciate you everybody being here.
Speaker AThis is fantastic.
Speaker AHow about this show?
Speaker AIs this unbelievable?
Speaker BThere are so many people here.
Speaker AOh, my gosh.
Speaker AOver a hundred thousand.
Speaker BWow.
Speaker AOne hundred thousand.
Speaker AMy name is Patrick Warren.
Speaker AI'm vice president of dealer and showroom sales here at Del tile.
Speaker AAnd the key part of that business right now for us is the kitchen to bath.
Speaker ASo it's great for us to be here.
Speaker AWe can talk about that a little bit.
Speaker AOh, my gosh, what a fantastic show it's been.
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker BAnd of course, my buddy Chip Wade.
Speaker CIt's always good being here with you, Eric.
Speaker BWe had fun.
Speaker CWe have a great time and it's fun to see all of the newest stuff.
Speaker CThis is why I love coming to Vegas.
Speaker CIt's not what you would think.
Speaker CIt is this show.
Speaker CThis is my favorite show of the year.
Speaker CIt's where I get inspired more than anywhere else and I just walk my legs off.
Speaker CWe were just talking before we came on about how it's hurting in my hips amount of miles that we're putting on.
Speaker CSo I don't know what that means.
Speaker CI guess we're getting on.
Speaker BI have to thank the Tesla tunnel load.
Speaker BIt has saved me about six or seven miles a day of walking between all the different halls.
Speaker CWell, there's construction going on at the convention center.
Speaker CIt's across the west hall, the north hall, the central hall, the south, up and down.
Speaker CThere's a lot.
Speaker CAnd what is that?
Speaker C20% of.
Speaker C20% up in attendance.
Speaker ASo you said 100,000 over 100,000.
Speaker CThat's absolutely amazing.
Speaker CBut again, this show is unbelievable.
Speaker CAnd where we're sitting right now has to be the greatest vista at the show.
Speaker BOh, my gosh.
Speaker CSo thank you for meeting here.
Speaker CThis is wonderful scenery.
Speaker AThis is the best.
Speaker ADoesn't get any better than this.
Speaker BSo we're guys to paint the picture.
Speaker BWe're in this beautiful Daltow booth here.
Speaker BAnd it has all the colors, the textures.
Speaker BIf you wanted to know what's going to be here next year.
Speaker BThat's hot.
Speaker BIt's in this booth.
Speaker AThat's exactly right.
Speaker AThat's exactly right.
Speaker ASo if you look at what we do, why we come to KBIS and the builder show in one is, what we want to do is we want to give you an introduction to what we see for our brands.
Speaker ADaltile, Overarch.
Speaker AWe have three core brands.
Speaker ADaltile Marazi and American Oleanne.
Speaker AAnd those brands represent different types of trends, styles, and different products.
Speaker AWe put it all together so that whatever, whoever's coming into that space, whether it's a commercial developer, a builder, a homeowner, a designer, they're gonna be able to paint that picture with our products so they can build that perfect space.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAnd it's gorgeous.
Speaker BAnd there's a lot of.
Speaker BOutside of the gorgeous part of it, there's a lot of safety, too.
Speaker BCause you have to have the right floor tile for things.
Speaker BEverybody has made that mistake.
Speaker BOr walked into somebody's house where they put the polished marble in the bathroom.
Speaker BAnd the first time you walk out, it's like you're walking across the wet ice and you're looking for the Zamboni.
Speaker BCause someone's gonna die in this bathroom and you gotta do it right.
Speaker BOther it's a problem.
Speaker AOr you become the Zamboni.
Speaker BExactly.
Speaker CJust drop a little liquid drizzle.
Speaker CGarage squeegee.
Speaker ADriveway's clean.
Speaker COh, my gosh.
Speaker CAs a.
Speaker CAs somebody that does a lot of projects, I'm always really wanting to.
Speaker CInspiration is too much of a broad word.
Speaker CI like to See and be attracted to visuals that kind of get me started in my process.
Speaker CI'm a very collaborative designer and creative, and so seeing visuals, and I think a lot of people are this way.
Speaker CAnd that is another thing that happens at the show, specifically in this booth, is seeing pairings of product together that spark a lot of excitement and get you from, okay, I got a project going on to.
Speaker CI don't know where I'm going to use that, but I'm going to use it somewhere.
Speaker CAnd that times 10 really gets you down the path.
Speaker CAnd your curated collection, you have some boards over here that are absolutely unbelievable.
Speaker CI think they're on the Dal Tile website as well.
Speaker AThey are curations, all three websites.
Speaker CSo imagine seeing imagery where you see inspiration imagery.
Speaker CYou see countertop selection, wall tile selection, and different accents paired with stuff that you might not think to even get at all.
Speaker CAbsolutely.
Speaker CAnd you're like, that just so works.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CAnd I'm excited to use it.
Speaker CAnd so I'm already like, I'm going to be here for three hours probably after this interview, selecting some different things.
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker BLast year, Julie, my wife, and I walked in last year, saw the floor last year, and we're like, that's going in the house.
Speaker BYeah, that's.
Speaker AWe just both looked at it.
Speaker BAnd the cool thing, though, is, with you guys as well, is that it's one thing to look at a piece of tile.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BOr a collection or a small piece of mosaics, but when you see it in the larger format of how it all goes together, because you'll go, oh, there's some circles.
Speaker BBut then maybe you don't realize that little curve in there is much bigger piece that now expands out into a pattern that's three or four feet wide.
Speaker AAbsolutely.
Speaker AThat's why we do the curation.
Speaker AIf you look, there's a lot of product.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AAnd we feed that monster all the time.
Speaker AWe want as much product as possible.
Speaker APeople don't know how to put it all together.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd a lot of times they're going into locations to look at tile in its one dimension.
Speaker AHere's the floor.
Speaker AHere's the wall.
Speaker ABut you have to look at the whole package, how it goes together, and we can help them be a little risky.
Speaker AIt's that mannequin sales process that helps them put it all together and say, you know what?
Speaker AI can put those three products together and it's gonna look amazing.
Speaker CI knew you were gonna talk about me at some point, Pat.
Speaker CThat was smooth.
Speaker CThat was smooth.
Speaker BI wasn't expecting that was as smooth as the top of your forehead there, brother.
Speaker CThere's a lot of new stuff that you guys have in the booth this year, which is really cool.
Speaker CI noticed that there's a new three dimensional technology on some of the porcelain tile, which, by the way, porcelain is just basically, it's just taking over porcelain as a material, as somebody that builds and installs, but also designs.
Speaker CIt's superior in almost every way.
Speaker BIt is.
Speaker CAnd I love that.
Speaker CThe technology, of course, you all have massive slabs, but even some of this new 3D technology has imprinting on the surface.
Speaker CWhere we've seen over the past five to 10 years, the technology for the visuals on the tile have exploded.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker CBut now we're getting 3D effects like veining that actually you rub your finger across it or you look at it on the wall and you see the light go in and out of the.
Speaker CSo it's the shadow.
Speaker CIt just feels.
Speaker CIt gives you all the right feels across the board.
Speaker BIf you look at it and then you look at the real stone and you think that's fake because that looks more real than the stone does, 100%, which it used to be.
Speaker BThe other way you go, oh, that's why that almost looks.
Speaker BAnd now you're looking at the porcelain going, the stone almost looks as good.
Speaker AYeah, yeah.
Speaker AYou're making it look better than the actual product.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CAnd the larger format technology is getting to 24 by 48 inch tiles that are super flat.
Speaker BThat's the new 12 by 24.
Speaker BLet's be honest.
Speaker AIt is.
Speaker CIt is.
Speaker CSeriously, what is the market for the 12 by 12 tile now?
Speaker CI still like it and use it, but it's a very specific silo that I pick.
Speaker CLike, how much of that are you seeing in the market?
Speaker ASo I would say the actual square market.
Speaker ALet's look at this.
Speaker AThe shape of product.
Speaker APeople are starting to go away from that rectangle.
Speaker A12 by 24 is over.
Speaker AIt's overpopulated in the marketplace.
Speaker ASo now we're seeing the squares come back and it adds.
Speaker ALike, you can almost tell rooms dated a little bit by the fact that it's got a rectangular floor.
Speaker A12 by 24.
Speaker ABut now we get into 24 by 48, 48 by 48, 30 by 30s.
Speaker AIt just.
Speaker AIt adds that wow factor.
Speaker AThat looks like that natural stone product that they're looking for.
Speaker CAmazing.
Speaker BAnd it's cool because you get that look again.
Speaker AThat's right.
Speaker BBut the maintenance is so much easier too, because one, you don't have a natural product down There that you've got to go clean, seal.
Speaker BAnd then, of course, less grout and.
Speaker BOh.
Speaker BAnd then when you heat it.
Speaker BOh, my gosh.
Speaker BYep.
Speaker CSo I have that.
Speaker CI brought this pamphlet over because I'm so excited about what you guys are doing.
Speaker AHow cool is that?
Speaker CSo porcelain tile.
Speaker CNow, it's not just resiliency, durability, beauty, just long lasting.
Speaker CIt also has these, like, side effects of interesting options for things like invisiquich.
Speaker CIf you've never seen these, like, imagine induction cooktops that are proliferating through the porcelain slab so it's invisible.
Speaker CSo you have a seamless countertop.
Speaker CNothing to catch debris to worry with.
Speaker CAnd literally the pot goes on the porcelain slab and all of the action is happening invisibly underneath.
Speaker CUnbelievable.
Speaker AUnbelievable.
Speaker AI had somebody yesterday tell me and I didn't think about it.
Speaker AShe was saying, I'm going to put this in my island at home in Dallas because my grandkids won't burn their fingers when they're watching me cook.
Speaker AInteresting side.
Speaker CThat's.
Speaker BAnd the thing is, we've all cleaned around a cooktop.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker BAnd unless you have toothpicks to get into the little groove to get all the stuff that came out, they're impossible to keep clean.
Speaker BNow you've got a slab porcelain on there.
Speaker BThat one.
Speaker BWith that, you could literally start barbecue briquettes on it if you had it outside and barbecue on the thing and not hurt it and wipe it off with a wet cloth.
Speaker AIt's not new technology, but it's amazing how they put it all together.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CThis.
Speaker CI think the first time I saw folks playing with this was probably four or five years ago.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CAnd it was intriguing, but it didn't seem like, it's like one of those things like, hey, this thing hadn't been vetted quite enough.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker CBut I think we're fully mature in the technology now.
Speaker CBut to your point, the porcelain, like, you can't do this on granite.
Speaker BNo.
Speaker CYou can't really do this on natural stone because the temperature gets so high, the inclusions in the vein, it'll crack.
Speaker CAnd crack.
Speaker BYou're going to.
Speaker CPorcelain is a magic material for this.
Speaker BIt is.
Speaker BI use porcelain in my outdoor kitchen.
Speaker BWhat?
Speaker BNot a better product.
Speaker BOutside, it's the perfect product.
Speaker BBefore I built the COVID over it, I could have 2 inches of ice on it from an ice storm.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker BAnd I got pictures of mine in that way.
Speaker BAnd then six months later, it's 110 degrees outside and it doesn't care.
Speaker CEric.
Speaker CI was at the one of the Dow Tal design centers in my hometown of Atlanta the other day, they have a big, huge stone center, which, again, it just makes me happy.
Speaker CIf I just want to go boost my spirits, I just go walk through this.
Speaker COh, my gosh, look at this.
Speaker BBut it's more work.
Speaker BBecause now you're like, I gotta have that, but where am I gonna put it?
Speaker CBut something that I saw that I have not seen is they now have not just porcelain slabs that are approximately a quarter inch thick.
Speaker CEven in the big panoramic slabs, they have it in 2 cm full through body veining in a porcelain slab.
Speaker CSo where it's a little bit more what I would say, it opens the door for other creative installations with that structure to it.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CSo now there's.
Speaker CThey're not.
Speaker CThey're really not very fragile.
Speaker CAnd you can cut it with basically a circular wet saw.
Speaker BExactly.
Speaker APlus the mitered edge like you were talking about.
Speaker AYour brother can do it by hand.
Speaker AYou got that vein all the way.
Speaker AMakes the perfect corner.
Speaker CIt's amazing.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BBecause all of a sudden, it's just stone.
Speaker BIt's got the same thing.
Speaker BYou're just gonna clean it, cut it, polish it.
Speaker BGood to go.
Speaker CAnd that's what I love.
Speaker CThere's y'all show new products, but there's stuff like this.
Speaker CHonestly, I mean, I've been looking around, I haven't even seen it.
Speaker CBut, like, some of the best stuff, like, it is so deep.
Speaker CThe product launches and offerings that are coming out right now.
Speaker CAnd I don't know what y'all did.
Speaker CI know you said that some of the team was, like, got maybe a little bit excited this year and, like, really unleashed it.
Speaker CBut y'all did with the product launches, too, the whole Artofino line.
Speaker AOh, my gosh.
Speaker CIf you have a palette.
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker AFantastic.
Speaker AOh, yeah, Fantastic.
Speaker BIt's gorgeous.
Speaker CI get really excited about this tile and countertop stuff.
Speaker CIt's really great.
Speaker CAnd we hadn't even talked about any of the exterior stuff.
Speaker BOh, no, we'll get into that.
Speaker BBut it's just.
Speaker BBut then again, look behind us right here.
Speaker BThis is absolutely gorgeous.
Speaker BAnd you guys have to watch the video on this sort of listen on the audio side.
Speaker BBut it's really showing the current styles.
Speaker BAnd where we're going right here for 2025, 2026, and what we do here.
Speaker AIs when we come to KBIS and ibs, is we now launch our trend report right before.
Speaker ABefore this.
Speaker ASo then we can use that as the central idea theme for the booth and We've really got five core buckets that we look at again, this will all be available on all three of our websites.
Speaker AValtile, American only, and Marazi.
Speaker ABut you have earthbound serenity.
Speaker AYou have refined indulgence.
Speaker AVintage revival, rugged, minimalist.
Speaker AAnd my favorite is color craze, which just brings out that inner spirit, that child, that, hey, listen, any color works.
Speaker AIf you want to put it in your room, it's going to work for you.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CI was talking or a trend, what would it be today?
Speaker AI'm feeling color crazy.
Speaker CI could sense that.
Speaker BThere we go.
Speaker BMy house.
Speaker BOur house is vintage revival all the way.
Speaker BThat's our vibe right there.
Speaker BAnd I was talking to Michelle about that beforehand.
Speaker BWe were having a great time talking about kind of the styles and black walnut, that kind of stuff.
Speaker BBut what's cool with all of this, though, is that the United States, we have here in North America, we have our styles.
Speaker BHere's what's hot this year.
Speaker BBut we're still very regional.
Speaker BWhat happens in the Pacific Northwest.
Speaker AThat's right.
Speaker BIs related to what happens in the South.
Speaker BBut there's these different feels and touches, even if it's in the same.
Speaker BSame style of contemporary or things like that.
Speaker AThat's right.
Speaker BBut you guys have to hit all of those around the country and be relevant in that.
Speaker BBecause even though.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BYou walk into a store and you go, oh, like Target is a great example.
Speaker BYou walk into Target.
Speaker BIt used to be they were 10 years behind on the style when you walked into that retail store.
Speaker BNow it's.
Speaker AThey're on top of it.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AThey're leading.
Speaker AMy question is just go to go back, Chip, which one of the five.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BWe got to get.
Speaker BWe got.
Speaker BYou're right.
Speaker BWe can't miss that.
Speaker AThat's important.
Speaker CIt.
Speaker CI would say right now, what I'm most drawn to for wanting to experiment with is similar to you, which is the vintage revival, kind of the warmer, bold tones with heavy texture.
Speaker CI just feel like there's trends are interesting because I just feel like you need to be open to just being allowed to like what you like.
Speaker CAnd so I think that these are just frameworks to get your mind wrapped around a matching genre.
Speaker CBut the fact that what these illuminate are.
Speaker CThe fact that there's going to be product offerings that allow you to fully flesh out this style.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CWhich.
Speaker CSo even if you just one tile or one finish, there's going to be more to allow you to finish the space.
Speaker CSo you're not just going to be just strung out back.
Speaker CI love this one item, but I can't find anything to match.
Speaker CAnd I think that really is the magic with you.
Speaker CTalk about.
Speaker CThere's brands that do color of the year.
Speaker CThere's these style guys.
Speaker CLike, there's all this disparate stuff going on, but the whole idea.
Speaker CAnd I think as a manufacturer, you can speak to this even better than I.
Speaker CBut this is a lens to look through what is going to be manufactured and available.
Speaker CSo it's the dirt that we should put the shovel in, because otherwise it's going to be a shallow.
Speaker AClearly, Chip is saying that he and Paulie have an avocado lamp.
Speaker AThey're trying to convince us works in the room.
Speaker CMake it work.
Speaker CMake it work.
Speaker BI saw you scrolling through Facebook Marketplace the other day.
Speaker BWanted to grab that off of there.
Speaker COh, my gosh.
Speaker BIt was a two hour drive.
Speaker BI know.
Speaker CI'm about to get banned on Facebook Marketplace.
Speaker AIt shows up.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CIt's like, those guys are.
Speaker BThose guys are like drug dealers.
Speaker BBecause once you pick something you like, they're like, but have you seen this?
Speaker BYeah, but have you seen that?
Speaker CThen the algorithm takes over.
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker AAnd then you like this.
Speaker BYeah, Exactly.
Speaker CThat's a $200,000 boat.
Speaker CI thought I was looking at an avocado.
Speaker CI said, that's right.
Speaker CBut do they have financing?
Speaker BBut the boat fits in the vintage revival because it's an old crisscross.
Speaker AThere you go.
Speaker ANow we're going.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker CAre you a boat guy?
Speaker AI love.
Speaker ABoating's fantastic.
Speaker ABut in the end, I'm a golfer and I'm a skier.
Speaker AThat's my jam.
Speaker BI love boats.
Speaker BI love more than boats.
Speaker BFriends with boats.
Speaker A100%.
Speaker A100%.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CNow you're preaching, but it's a little sensitive because I've got one.
Speaker BI know.
Speaker CAnd so I'm on the other side.
Speaker CBoat means for sale.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BBoat means bust out another thousand, because that's what it is to fix anything.
Speaker CLord have mercy.
Speaker BIt's worse than the house.
Speaker CWhat have you seen?
Speaker CHave you been around the show very much, Eric?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BIt's funny to see some of the stuff that you see out there.
Speaker BYou guys are so good with color and texture and things like that.
Speaker BAnd it is so prevalent now out there.
Speaker BEven companies that do toilet fixtures like Toto now has color.
Speaker BAnd they've been the.
Speaker BThe Ford model of.
Speaker BAs long as you want the one color, like the model T.
Speaker BAs long as you get a black, you're fine.
Speaker BYou got it.
Speaker BFord.
Speaker AThere you go.
Speaker BThey've been white.
Speaker BThat way for generations.
Speaker BAnd now even they're introducing colors.
Speaker BSo it really shows you how color and texture and all of these things are really starting to come out and be embraced.
Speaker BYou guys have been on that for a number of years.
Speaker AAbsolutely.
Speaker AAt the talk of the show, everybody's talking about the dress, the black dress and the black toilet at Kohler, which is unbelievable, Right?
Speaker BUnbelievable.
Speaker AVery cool that they did that.
Speaker APut those two together and you wouldn't have done it together.
Speaker ABut it's fantastic marketing and it taps into what the consumers are thinking about.
Speaker CI think people are a little volatile on the black toilet, though.
Speaker AQuite a bit.
Speaker COne way or the other.
Speaker BOh yeah.
Speaker BIt depends.
Speaker CI like it.
Speaker CAnd the.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AThat was very funny.
Speaker AThat was good.
Speaker CWe all know.
Speaker CWe all know.
Speaker AWe were talking about it last night and they were like, I don't need digital information from the toilet.
Speaker AI think there's a line where we cross.
Speaker BI think it's the rice cooker that gives you the weather for today.
Speaker AI really don't need that.
Speaker AThat's a safe zone.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker COn an aside, I do a lot of toilet stuff.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CProfessionally.
Speaker BAnd.
Speaker CAnd I paid for that.
Speaker BThat's pretty amazing.
Speaker AThat's a whole separate podcast.
Speaker BThat's a whole marketing.
Speaker BI didn't hear it until it actually.
Speaker CCame out of my mouth.
Speaker BComing out on podcasts.
Speaker CActually, the.
Speaker CI love what I call the dumb toilet.
Speaker CA really quality mechanical system.
Speaker CAnd then the cleansing seat thing on top is like the bolt on functionality that kind of can do everything else toilet.
Speaker CIntelligent toilets do.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CBut.
Speaker CBut sometimes you just want the thing to flush and you just need a software update.
Speaker AI don't need it.
Speaker AI don't want to scan a QR code.
Speaker AExactly.
Speaker BOr grab the app.
Speaker CWhere is my app money at 2.
Speaker BO'Clock in the morning?
Speaker BExactly.
Speaker BBut no, it's good.
Speaker CTechnology is everywhere.
Speaker AIt really is.
Speaker CWith all the stuff.
Speaker CCould you describe.
Speaker CI'm interested in this too because we talk about design and style specifically as it come to some of the imaging technology.
Speaker CHow is it that you guys are actually getting even more realistic, even just with the two dimensional visuals on some of this product?
Speaker AWe spend a tremendous amount of time at Daltile on product development.
Speaker AAnd it.
Speaker BSure.
Speaker AAnd it starts.
Speaker BWe.
Speaker AWe send our teams to Italy, we send our teams to quarries.
Speaker AWe send.
Speaker AThey look at whether it's hardwood, whether it's marble, whether it's concrete.
Speaker AWe look at what esthetically that product is supposed to look like.
Speaker AAnd then by the way, turning that then created a pressed clay into making it look realistic like that.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AAnd consistently repeat it.
Speaker ANot easy to do.
Speaker AOur can be.
Speaker AOur downtown manufacturing team does an amazing job.
Speaker AAnd it's all about that top layer.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AYou have to have.
Speaker AYou're building a core.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd then when you press and you apply the right heat, the right stability on top, that's what makes a difference.
Speaker ASo we come up with a tremendous amount of product.
Speaker AWe launch a lot of product, but we take our time doing so because we can't be fast to market.
Speaker AWe can't have fast, fast, fast fashion.
Speaker AWe can't have fast fashion.
Speaker AWe have to be on trend.
Speaker AWe have to make sure that we can repeat it.
Speaker ABecause of the dependability from Daltile Marazi and American Oleanne about what we're going to offer.
Speaker AWe spend a lot of time.
Speaker AIt's great that you bring that out.
Speaker AWe look at technology really three ways.
Speaker AThere's the selection process of the technology.
Speaker AWe use that from our stylizer, our Daltile stylizer.
Speaker AWhat is it going to look like in that room?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AThen we go to the technology that's on the product.
Speaker AAnd my two favorite ones.
Speaker AAnd we talked about a couple today.
Speaker AStepwise.
Speaker ALove stepwise.
Speaker A50% more slip resistant than the competition.
Speaker BThat's huge.
Speaker AAbsolutely.
Speaker BAnd it looks good.
Speaker BThat's the other thing.
Speaker BIt doesn't look like.
Speaker ASo you can't even see it.
Speaker BIt doesn't look like soap.
Speaker AIt's a secret.
Speaker AIt's magic.
Speaker ADaltao magic.
Speaker AThen you have Defend microband.
Speaker AThat's microband eliminates 99% of the mold, mildew and bacterial growth.
Speaker ASo it's that confidence, that peace of mind that they don't even realize they're getting it, but they're going to come back and want more of that.
Speaker AThen it's the technology that we use to get the product to market.
Speaker AWe have over 200 locations that are our service centers that have all of our products.
Speaker AWe have our.
Speaker AYou talked about the slab yard, our studios, our design centers to bring that all together so that someone can select it and know that they're getting the right product for their home.
Speaker ASo those are the three core technology pieces we use at Dal Tile.
Speaker BAnd I'm a color guy and I'm sure you've seen tile be made.
Speaker BAnd it's absolutely amazing because you'll see before it goes into the kiln, you're like, wow, that's this weird brown color.
Speaker BAnd like, how's that going to look when it comes out the other side of the kiln?
Speaker BAnd this is bright Green.
Speaker BAnd I'm like, okay.
Speaker CGotta know what you're doing.
Speaker BYou gotta know what you're doing.
Speaker BBecause the color thing really messes with your head of.
Speaker BI don't know how that burnt, aged, glazed and turns out something completely different.
Speaker BBut you have to think that way.
Speaker BOf course in the development process.
Speaker BWhich is crazy.
Speaker AWiden it.
Speaker AFaces.
Speaker AWe talk about faces.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AEach tile is gonna have a different face.
Speaker AThere's going to be a repeat.
Speaker AThere has to be at some point.
Speaker ABut we go as wide as we can so that you don't see a repeat in a large scale floor.
Speaker AThat's really important.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AWhen you value de.
Speaker AEngineer it, when you value engineer it down, you're going to bring out pieces like that and they're going to say, hey, at a.
Speaker AMaybe at a home center or some other place, it doesn't think of the quality like that they're going to have.
Speaker AEvery six faces is going to be a repeat.
Speaker AYou're going to see that.
Speaker AThat knot or that vein come through and it just doesn't look good.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAnd that's again one of the things with what I'd call the entry grades of tile out there.
Speaker BNot the dial tile stuff but the stuff you're buying online.
Speaker BThis place, the discount center or whatever.
Speaker BYou've installed a ton of tile.
Speaker BI've installed a ton of tile.
Speaker BWhen I see somebody that's brought that onto the job site, I'm like awesome.
Speaker BIt's not consistent, it's not flat.
Speaker BYou can have the best install.
Speaker BIt still doesn't look great.
Speaker BFor those varied reasons of it's the exact same one thing of tile.
Speaker BAnd you can only move it so many ways to make it look good.
Speaker CI look at building materials across the board.
Speaker CIt's like you got to think of it like cost of ownership of a car.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CYou know you might buy something that's really cheap to buy but you're working on it all the time.
Speaker CI won't name names.
Speaker BNo.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BWe all know this.
Speaker CWe all have our own experiences.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CBut building materials are no different.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CSometimes it's worth paying a slight premium for a highly engineered, very consistent, beautiful, long lasting material because it ends up being less to install just by the fact that you're going to have great irregularity of image.
Speaker CNatural.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BIt's mother's nature's best.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker COr they're going to all be completely square and rectified.
Speaker CYou're not going to have some weird cupping on run one that you're going to have to go back and get more.
Speaker CAnd then your installer is like, now this is going to be all those hidden things that ends up raising its head later.
Speaker CYou just start out with quality product.
Speaker CYou're going to get a better result.
Speaker AExactly right.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BAnd then, by the way, when the tile guy went down to pick up the other box, they're the wrong color, even though they're the same color and.
Speaker CThey might be out.
Speaker CAnd then you're done.
Speaker BAnd you'll never find that other one again because it was a container full of it, and it's never to be seen again.
Speaker AThat's right.
Speaker CAnd then it's always the topic of conversation.
Speaker CWhy?
Speaker CWhat did you do with the floor right here?
Speaker BDon't ask, don't ask, don't ask.
Speaker CThat's why we have this weird apron.
Speaker CLike, was there a medallion in the movie?
Speaker ANo, this is design settings.
Speaker BExactly.
Speaker CNow my wife's not talking to me for a week again.
Speaker BThe Hail Mary shot.
Speaker BShe didn't have to tear it all out and do it over again.
Speaker BThat's what that was.
Speaker CWe've all experienced those things, but just by doing so many projects, there's things that you pick up like that, where quality material out of the gate is where you should start every time.
Speaker A100%.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAnd it's not that much more, to be honest.
Speaker BThis isn't like buying the.
Speaker BThe key and going to the Bentley.
Speaker CThis is.
Speaker BThis is like a model jump.
Speaker AOh.
Speaker BI want the heated seats versus not the heated seats.
Speaker AIt matters who installs it.
Speaker ALike, a lot of my friends will come to us, and I want them to use Deltile products of our three brands.
Speaker ABut importantly, I want you to have the right installer because otherwise, it's just.
Speaker AYou're not gonna be happy.
Speaker CNo.
Speaker BAnd that's like, my buddy.
Speaker BWe gave my buddy William a hard time last week.
Speaker AWe did?
Speaker CWilliam.
Speaker BRemember William last year?
Speaker BRemember William?
Speaker BWe were talking about him.
Speaker BAnd again, he's my buddy.
Speaker BUnfortunately, he just moved to Pittsburgh, so now I gotta fly him back to do tile jobs because he's the guy that sits there and does the.
Speaker BThe.
Speaker BPuts the safety glasses on and eyeballs the miter on the 45 in the outside corner.
Speaker BNails it every time.
Speaker BAnd I'm just like, you're gonna have.
Speaker CTo find a new tile guy.
Speaker CYou can't fly in tile guys.
Speaker CCome on.
Speaker AThe tools, everything.
Speaker BExactly.
Speaker BThat's a lot of.
Speaker AYou know what?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CYour tile job just got really expensive.
Speaker BIt did.
Speaker CThat's right.
Speaker ABut.
Speaker CThat's right.
Speaker CYou know what?
Speaker CThat's great.
Speaker BI've done it since I was 13.
Speaker BSo we'll just call it family time.
Speaker AYeah, yeah, let him fly himself.
Speaker AHe'll be good.
Speaker CYou know, though, it's like a general idea though, is this almost like a public service announcement?
Speaker CBecause I think generally the population doesn't have a great grasp on this piece.
Speaker CThe biggest thing that you can do as a homeowner and contractors realize this if they've done work for any length of time.
Speaker CYeah, it's all about floor prep, but it's about floor prep and wall prep regardless of what material you're using.
Speaker CEven, even if you're using an LVT or whatever.
Speaker CThat's, that's nothing fancy.
Speaker CIt doesn't even look that great.
Speaker CThis is all about getting consistency and flatness.
Speaker CAnd then your installation, whatever it is, will be universally better.
Speaker CAnd so a lot of folks don't prioritize that or think that it's like, ah, it's close enough.
Speaker ASo cut corners and you're, it's.
Speaker BYou'll have problem.
Speaker CSpend the money on the floor, prep.
Speaker AThe things that matter.
Speaker CEverything else will go great.
Speaker BWhat I like about the tile installers out there, those crafts people who are absolutely amazing, is that if you're a homeowner, you're a builder, you're looking for somebody out there to do the job.
Speaker BYou're paying the money to get the good stuff, you're putting it in.
Speaker BThere's so many other great organizations in the tile world out there, like cta, the other people that have their certifications that you go, how do I know if they're good?
Speaker AYep.
Speaker BLittle research, see if they're certified, see what their experiences are.
Speaker BBecause you can buy the most beautiful product in the world.
Speaker BAnd if you have the bad install, it looks like a blind 8 year old did it.
Speaker CYou got it.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AHow many times you stayed in the hotel and you get out of the shower, you get out of the bathroom, oh my gosh, did you see that grout line?
Speaker AIs that terrible?
Speaker CI tell Polly, my wife, that all the time.
Speaker CShe's just, she's seriously, like, I was actually here at the show.
Speaker CSomebody put the B on nahb in the main lobby on upside down.
Speaker BThat's awesome.
Speaker CAnd so like the B, like the big B is all the time.
Speaker CThat's the type of thing where I'm just like, my eyes look at.
Speaker CI can just not see it.
Speaker CExactly.
Speaker CI'm that way for sure.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BWe went and Julie and I went and hit the spa day when we got down here.
Speaker BAnd we're in this, I'm in this really nice spa on the men's side of things and I'm like, I'm staring at this tile.
Speaker BIt's driving me, I'm supposed to be relaxing, but these two little 2 inch tiles are so badly out I couldn't let it go.
Speaker BI'm looking at it going, what is going on here?
Speaker AIt was just, where's William?
Speaker BWhere's William?
Speaker CBut this is the same thing.
Speaker CThis is the same thing.
Speaker CYou always.
Speaker CPeople get different quotes, they get tile guide.
Speaker CI still have to get my mind right about this.
Speaker CLike I'm looking at for skilled trades to do a lot of this stuff in areas that I don't have a strong network like a new part of town, that's a problem.
Speaker CSo the issue is, yeah, you get multiple bids and of course you're wanting to get the best value price.
Speaker BSure.
Speaker CBut if you haven't seen multiple jobs done in the last 12 months that are very close to what you are having done, then you have no idea what you're going to get.
Speaker CAnd so I just recommend that's what you need to look for, do your research.
Speaker CAnd again, it's cliche, but it's not always the lowest price ending up being the lowest price.
Speaker BOh, the lowest price is usually the most expensive price because in many cases it stalls out.
Speaker CThey under bid it, they don't want to finish the job, then you're just fighting and then you end up having to find somebody else and then you end up having.
Speaker CThen they have you for lunch.
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker CSo you end up paying more for two people and then nobody has the pride to finish it up.
Speaker CSo it's a cataclysmic snowball effect.
Speaker AGreat point.
Speaker BIt is.
Speaker BBecause you're going to do it twice and that's way more than your highest bid.
Speaker ADo it right, do it right.
Speaker BThe first time I was out at a job site this last year, guy called up listen to the radio show and he was literally five miles away.
Speaker BI went out and he had paid a remodeler to come out and work on his parents house.
Speaker BAnd I walk in the bathroom, they've got the tub in the shower, surrounds around and there's drywall behind it.
Speaker BAnd he's half put up the tile.
Speaker AOh boy.
Speaker BAnd I'm like, oh boy.
Speaker BAll right, you're starting over, buddy.
Speaker BStarting over.
Speaker CYep, yep.
Speaker CBut this is where people that don't know, they don't know and they may never know.
Speaker BEducation is key on that.
Speaker BFrom a homeowner and a contractor for trying to find that sub.
Speaker AThere is a bit of a Murphy's Law, though.
Speaker ASorry to interrupt.
Speaker AWith family projects, you know.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AYou think mom wants something?
Speaker AOh, boy.
Speaker AI hope this is gonna be this.
Speaker AIt's gonna be tough.
Speaker BMom wants something.
Speaker BMom.
Speaker BFor me, family costs more.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BJust because you've got to deal with family.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AIt's a family tax.
Speaker BCan I get the family discount?
Speaker BYou don't want the family discount.
Speaker BLove my family, but there's more work involved.
Speaker AThat's exactly right.
Speaker ABecause you want it.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AIt matters.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AYou want them to tell everybody, and.
Speaker BI'm going to hear about it for the next 22.
Speaker BThanksgiving, it's not.
Speaker BSo there's a price for that.
Speaker AThat's exactly right.
Speaker COr it could be your way out.
Speaker BAbsolutely.
Speaker CYou only have to do it so.
Speaker ABad before you're released or hiring.
Speaker BYep.
Speaker CAnd you're not invited to Thanksgiving.
Speaker CAbsolutely.
Speaker AYou show up and the job's done.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BThere we go.
Speaker CGenius.
Speaker BGenius.
Speaker CThree steps ahead.
Speaker BAbsolutely.
Speaker CSo I'm.
Speaker CI'm curious because you talk to so many people, Eric, and obviously I think you could.
Speaker CI have my own ways of vetting and finding resources for an average homeowner.
Speaker CWhat would you tell somebody?
Speaker CWhere do you go?
Speaker CWhat are the most key things to look for?
Speaker CI think contractors could glean a little bit of this, too, because we get in tunnel vision.
Speaker BI figure out what the laws are in my states, where I'm at, where I'm located, Do they need to be licensed, bonded, insured, contract.
Speaker AGreat starting point to me.
Speaker BI start there because if they've at least started to follow the rules and the laws that I go, okay, maybe they care about doing something right.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker BAnd that's the first thing I look at.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker BCan they navigate that first bit?
Speaker BOkay, that's a great start.
Speaker BThat's all current.
Speaker BThen I just start looking at what.
Speaker BWhen they give a quote out, what's it say?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BIf they come in and go bathroom, remodel.
Speaker B$23,000.
Speaker BSign here.
Speaker AOne line.
Speaker BOne line.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BI'm out.
Speaker BBut if they go through and you start asking the questions.
Speaker BOkay, what do we need to do for prep here?
Speaker BWhat do you see when you're walking through the job site and they go, we've got to do this and this.
Speaker BAnd when I see a nice line, itemized bid of what's going on, then I'm starting to get a feel that at least they understand the project, because that's half of the problem.
Speaker BSomebody will come out and they don't know you've got somebody that this is my first bathroom remodel.
Speaker BAnd they're never going to tell you that, but you start looking at going, okay, you don't understand the process here.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BSo if you can see them document that process and get through with that.
Speaker BAnd then, of course, you can always.
Speaker BThe referral thing is cool.
Speaker BIf you've got a friend that's been through it, that.
Speaker BThat's great.
Speaker BFriends and family.
Speaker BI've seen plenty of contractors out there that weren't good contractors that you're now calling their cousin, their buddy, and they're the referrals and the checking out there.
Speaker CMy son is so wonderful at this.
Speaker AYes, he did my bathroom.
Speaker BAbsolutely.
Speaker AOnce.
Speaker COnce, Never again.
Speaker BThat was just last Christmas.
Speaker BAnd so finding that stuff out.
Speaker BAnd really, I say two things.
Speaker BOne, you need to go around and find that last project they were working on.
Speaker BBut as a homeowner, you also have to be okay to be.
Speaker BTo take those phone calls when the next person wants to your job.
Speaker BYou got to pay it forward in that.
Speaker AWhen.
Speaker BWhen you get those two or three people that are calling you as a reference to go, how did it go?
Speaker AYeah, I mean, if I'm in Pittsburgh, I'm calling William.
Speaker BAbsolutely.
Speaker CI mean, so when Eric calls, is.
Speaker ANot available, he just goes right to voicemail for you.
Speaker CIs it something I said?
Speaker CWho is it?
Speaker CWho is it?
Speaker CWho is he?
Speaker AWilliam's like the star of the show.
Speaker AHe doesn't realize it.
Speaker CWho is this guy?
Speaker BYeah, we're gonna have to.
Speaker BWe're gonna have to get him on show here next time.
Speaker BI'll bring him in next year.
Speaker AWe'll do that.
Speaker CI love it.
Speaker CI love it.
Speaker BAnd the funny thing is with that, you also have to know what you're working on.
Speaker BWorking on a kitchen versus an outdoor kitchen, talking about exteriors.
Speaker BWhat's so big in outdoor living right now that's its own world outside of inside.
Speaker BThat exterior person needs to understand a whole nother realm that's almost sometimes semi contradictory to what you're doing inside.
Speaker BBecause it's a whole different process, especially when you're in areas that gets.
Speaker BThey get a freeze or two in the air.
Speaker AWe're spending a lot of time bringing our dealers and our network to understand that there are projects that can go outside and they can transition.
Speaker AAsk the customer what are they going to do and then come to us.
Speaker AWe have a very large portfolio of products and installation systems on our Delta exteriors program.
Speaker ABut we need to make sure we start small and educate as we go.
Speaker AYou can't go to a homeowner and say, think about outside cladding.
Speaker ACladding.
Speaker AThey're going to have to Google cladding.
Speaker ABut we start talking about pavered, you start talking about tread, you start talking about waterline tiles.
Speaker AThey're like, okay, wow, I get that.
Speaker BOkay, that's in the pool.
Speaker CYep, I get that.
Speaker ASo very important.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BWater control is one of the big things outside with cladding.
Speaker BWhen it's whether it's outside, you got to decide, okay, how am I going to control this, where's it going?
Speaker BAnd then how to make it work in the environment that it is.
Speaker BWhether it's Arizona or Minneapolis.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker COne of the things that I'm seeing a lot that's really exciting is it's technology.
Speaker CAnd slab stocks, like the porcelain slabs that are thick and structural enough to actually have what I call like a micro span, meaning they're strong enough to not have to be directly dirt or universally set on grade where they actually can stand these platforms.
Speaker CAnd the pods and platforms are really starting to become mainstream market, which is really cool.
Speaker CAnd for anybody that's listening or watching, basically, they look like these plastic, cylindrical, almost like screw jacks.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CThey actually feel somewhat lightweight.
Speaker CBut they're engineered basically to pick up the intersection of tile, of stone, of, of decking, where you can have these cool raised platforms above grade, which ultimately give you tons of flexibility on low slung like rooftops, backyards with a gravel base, a deck.
Speaker CThat's right, all of these things.
Speaker CYou can put decking and have flush transitions between dissimilar materials, which open up the design aesthetic in a huge way.
Speaker CBut these are also what you guys have really come to the table with.
Speaker CA lot of the exterior porcelain slabs that are indistinguishable from the most beautiful stones come in huge sections and you can create these amazing raised areas.
Speaker CBut of course, they're great for direct sand set or gravel set.
Speaker BYeah, absolutely.
Speaker COr even bonded.
Speaker BYeah, you can do anything with that.
Speaker BAnd that's the beautiful part of it.
Speaker BAnd as long as you know the environment you're working in, you're following the technical directions and using the right materials to install it, you're going to be set.
Speaker BAnd it's a generational type product.
Speaker BThat's the thing that I think going back to style with Dal tile, what you're doing here, this isn't paint colors.
Speaker BThis is not something that two years ago, hey, it's out, we're going here.
Speaker BYou have to do something that's going to withstand the style for 10, 1520 years until the next remodel.
Speaker CThat's right.
Speaker AGo ahead.
Speaker AIt's interesting.
Speaker AWe have these four, three.
Speaker AWow.
Speaker AWalls on the corners of our space.
Speaker AThe fourth one being exteriors.
Speaker AAnd the one directly behind us here is American Elaine.
Speaker AAnd it's this pink tile.
Speaker AI almost need to take a picture and show everybody, because for the viewers, it's amazing.
Speaker AWe'll have pictures on our website.
Speaker ABut it's funny.
Speaker AI was talking to some kitchen to bath people yesterday, and I was like, how many of those did you tear down over the last 10 years?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ABut now it's coming back.
Speaker CThis is a better pink.
Speaker BIt's a much better pink.
Speaker CIt's a much.
Speaker CWe almost need a new.
Speaker CMauve and pink are like two things of rebranding.
Speaker CWe need whatever that tone is, its own name, because it's good and it's solid.
Speaker CAnd I'm actually going to be using this color in the treehouse builds I'm working on right now.
Speaker CThat's awesome.
Speaker COkay.
Speaker CI'm so excited about it.
Speaker AI like that.
Speaker CAnd I don't want to call it pink, and I don't want to call it whatever.
Speaker BI'm sorry.
Speaker BI'm old enough to.
Speaker BBut mauve.
Speaker BI think of the 1990s with the.
Speaker CGold, and I go, it doesn't have a great connotation.
Speaker BNo.
Speaker BWe got to rebrand that.
Speaker BWe need new color names.
Speaker CYeah, that's right.
Speaker CExactly.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BWe got to come up with something different.
Speaker ASo we'll work on that.
Speaker BI think we need to have a naming party.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker BYou know, might take some whiskey or some beer or some good coffee for you.
Speaker BWe'll figure it out.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CWhat y'all are doing, like, obviously, as you mentioned earlier, you guys and your entire design staff that have to think, not just next quarter or even next year, all are forecasting on trend visuals.
Speaker BI'm sure you're five to ten years out.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker CLet's talk about color a little bit, because color is one of those.
Speaker CI call them a cyclical trend.
Speaker CAlways oscillating like a sine wave.
Speaker CMuted neutrals and then bold primaries.
Speaker CSaturated colors.
Speaker CWhere are we now?
Speaker CI see products, but what's happening?
Speaker AI think to step back a little bit.
Speaker AYou look at.
Speaker AAll right, so when you look at we manufacture, this is gonna be a crazy number.
Speaker A1.5 billion square feet.
Speaker AWe're going out of places to tile.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker CA lot.
Speaker ABut when we look at color, we don't want to be necessarily on the very, very front edge of it, because if it trends back then all of a sudden, we're left.
Speaker AWe've shareholders inventory heavy, too.
Speaker AYeah, absolutely.
Speaker BInventory.
Speaker ABut right now, you're getting warmer.
Speaker BWe got a billion tones are getting warm.
Speaker AFor so long, we had that.
Speaker AThat marble has been just unbelievable, right?
Speaker AMarble and gray and cold.
Speaker ACool vibe.
Speaker ANow we're getting a little more warmer.
Speaker AYou're getting a little more reds are coming in.
Speaker AThey're more natural toned.
Speaker AYou can see some of our products that we have out here.
Speaker AThat natural texture, that earthy feel to it to give that warmth.
Speaker AAnd then on the other end of that spectrum, you've got.
Speaker AWe talked about color craze.
Speaker AYou've got this pop of color, and I think that indicates that the market is getting better.
Speaker AWhen people start to put color in their home chips.
Speaker AChip and polar putting in pink, they feel good, so they express themselves through color.
Speaker AAnd we have to make sure at Dal Tile, because we don't lack SKUs, that we have enough of that color band that looks forward just enough that we can keep our plants going in the right direction.
Speaker ABut everybody knows that, hey, this color palette is probably good for the next three to five years, but then we'll have tweaks coming in it, right?
Speaker ASure.
Speaker ASome will come, some will go, but this has to be a path that we go forward with from here.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BIt's got to be confusing, because if you look.
Speaker BLet's go after paint brands for a minute.
Speaker BSorry, guys.
Speaker BYou look at the color year from, and it's.
Speaker BIt's all over the board.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BWhen you see.
Speaker BBecause you.
Speaker BIf you jump online and look, there's.
Speaker BLet's say there's 15 paint companies out there, right.
Speaker BAnd there's 15 color of the years.
Speaker BAnd I'm like, they're all over the place.
Speaker BThey're all over the place.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CAnd paint, though, I feel like, is a paint.
Speaker CColor is a commoditized tract.
Speaker CI think that you can put a lot less credence in a paint color of the year than.
Speaker CAnd what y'all are doing with curations with.
Speaker CThis is a much more solidified scenario.
Speaker BNo question.
Speaker BNo question.
Speaker CBut I'm seeing the greens coming out really strong, especially, like, more of these emerald tones.
Speaker AEmeralds are back.
Speaker AYou know, we mentioned it before.
Speaker AJewel tones are.
Speaker AWe were talking about earlier with our color trends, Michelle, and we're going through it.
Speaker AJewel tones coming back with your.
Speaker AWhen you get into your serenity and your refined indulgence, those jewel tones are coming back into style, which is very important.
Speaker BThat orange rust.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BJust what you see in the Vintage revival.
Speaker BThat's back again.
Speaker BAlso.
Speaker CI'm looking at one right now.
Speaker CSo I've installed Remedy tile for the last several years.
Speaker CBut this color, I think it's called Aura.
Speaker CIs that what y'all named it?
Speaker CSo it's like this beautiful mixed media of, like, glossy terracotta and, like, rich, like, warm brown tones together.
Speaker CBut these are, like two by nine tiles that aesthetically, in this vertical orientation are just.
Speaker CIt's a showstopper.
Speaker CI think somebody was telling me that, like, this has been, like, one of.
Speaker AThe leaders, 100%, and it's got a pop to it.
Speaker AIt's got that artesian kind of handmade tile look.
Speaker CIt doesn't look like the standard.
Speaker ADoes not look like the standard.
Speaker AYou don't want to look like your neighbor.
Speaker AYou want to stand out and do your own thing, be an individual.
Speaker BYeah, it's got this swanky 70s vibe to it.
Speaker BThat's really cool in a really cool kind of way.
Speaker AI feel like there's music behind what you just said.
Speaker AThere should be some type of cool, you know?
Speaker CBut now you'll ask, did you see the fluted accents that they have now.
Speaker AThat go with it?
Speaker ASo, again, monster is important.
Speaker CIt certainly is that earthly, that earthbound serenity vibe together.
Speaker CBut it's still absolutely sophisticated enough to go in the most modern aesthetic as well.
Speaker BIf you want that spa feel, you can get that warm spa feel out of it.
Speaker BIt can go in a kitchen, but.
Speaker CYou get the light reflection, which is one of the best reasons I love tile.
Speaker BOh, my gosh.
Speaker CIs the way that the different finish options truly reflect light.
Speaker CThe light reflection of tile, just in general, is, I think, a superior design tool that can be leveraged above so many other materials.
Speaker AWe talked about doing the home homework before you do an install of, let's say tile lighting is such an important feature, because if you have the wrong lighting, it's going to look completely different.
Speaker AThe color is going to look different.
Speaker AYou've got to make sure you put your thought into what lighting structure you.
Speaker BNeed the best lighting.
Speaker BYou never notice because you walk in and you're like, this is stunning.
Speaker BAnd you don't know why, but you go, wow, this pops.
Speaker CPeople say I light up the space, but it's really my forehead.
Speaker CYeah, it's all about light reflection.
Speaker CYeah, that's right.
Speaker AThat was pretty good.
Speaker APaulie loved that one.
Speaker AThat was my favorite.
Speaker BTrying to balance out my hair.
Speaker BYeah, yeah.
Speaker BYou do you own a flare on the screen?
Speaker BThat was lens flare.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker CIt's off my Teeth.
Speaker BAnd that's the fun part right now is, is that you can sit here and design.
Speaker BLet's say you're doing a great room.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker BAnd you've got that outdoor space.
Speaker BYou can put in the big nanowall style doors that open up.
Speaker BYou can take that kitchen and take it all the way out to the pool.
Speaker CSame material.
Speaker BSame material.
Speaker CSame material.
Speaker CAnd then take it up an outdoor fireplace, bring it up onto the countertop.
Speaker CSo very sleek, modern looks.
Speaker COr much more traditional.
Speaker CBut connecting those indoor outdoor spaces is really where the technology comes in.
Speaker CSuper strong 100 people don't.
Speaker APeople have to understand that they can do that.
Speaker AAnd we have to get that message across both through our visualization, our websites, all of the home improvement shows that are out there.
Speaker AWe have to make sure people know that, hey, you take that, that you have a whole space outside that you're not really thinking about doing and creating something that's going to be really good habitat for your family.
Speaker COne one mentality to think about is it's a lot easier to take an outside material and use it inside than the other one than an inside material outside.
Speaker CBecause outside is tough.
Speaker CThere's uv, there's slip resistant, there's temperature fluctuations.
Speaker CProduct.
Speaker AThat's right.
Speaker CPeople should check like, oh, I like this.
Speaker CAnd it's a little bit more of an unorthodox utilization on the end.
Speaker CYou can use any of that stuff on the inside.
Speaker BTotally.
Speaker CWhich is awesome.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ABuild your portfolio up.
Speaker AAgreed.
Speaker ATotally agree.
Speaker BAnd nowadays with trough drains and things that you can have custom made, it gets.
Speaker BWhen you get outside and you're like, oh, I'm worried about.
Speaker BOn a heavy rain day, you can put in a little 1 inch or 2 inch drain that goes all along the front of the the space as you're coming into the house or going out into the backyard, for instance, through those doors, you've got all the water control.
Speaker BIt's just beautiful.
Speaker AGoing back to that as you prep for a job.
Speaker AIt's things like subfloor heating.
Speaker AIt's things like niche lighting.
Speaker AIt's niche in the showers.
Speaker AIt's smaller accents that wow.
Speaker AWe're staying at a hotel that has beautiful accent lighting in the shower.
Speaker AAnd it's wow.
Speaker AThis is.
Speaker AYou don't really think about it until you have it.
Speaker ASo you got to think about that ahead of time.
Speaker AAnd that's a big push for Daltile.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CBringing it back to Toilet Talk.
Speaker CGot a heated toilet seat.
Speaker CYou don't know what you're missing until you got it.
Speaker CThere's Something about warm tile.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CThat just.
Speaker CYou're like, man, you can't go back.
Speaker AIt is.
Speaker CI was so in my bathroom at home, for some reason, I have it on a timer.
Speaker CSo every morning.
Speaker CAnd you just get so used to it until it's not there.
Speaker CI don't know if, like, a breaker popped or something.
Speaker CI walked in and you're just like, oh.
Speaker BOr you go take a shower in the middle of the day.
Speaker BBecause I have mine running all day.
Speaker BI have it in the morning.
Speaker BThe evenings come in the middle of the day, and you're like, oh, man.
Speaker AWow.
Speaker BOne of the most floor is the same temperature as a room.
Speaker BWhat's going on?
Speaker COne of the most luxurious things I think that you could put in a new remodel, especially for a bathroom room, is heat your shower seat.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker CUnder the tile, there's something like, subconsciously brace yourself.
Speaker CIt's like when you get in the shower and you're like.
Speaker CYou stay and you're, like, feeling the water.
Speaker CFeeling the water until it's good enough to just swoop in.
Speaker CBut then you have the same thing.
Speaker CLike, if you're like, okay, for the ladies, if they're, like, sitting down to shave or something, shower or something like.
Speaker BThat, you're gonna sit down for a.
Speaker CMinute or try to hit the water on it until it's warm enough, and then you touch your back.
Speaker CBut just the same thing you can do with radiant flooring.
Speaker CYou can bring it up on that shower side, seating that back.
Speaker CAnd it is revolutionary.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker AAnd not that much more money when you do it ahead of time.
Speaker AIt's not the thing.
Speaker AYeah, just.
Speaker AYou've already said forethought.
Speaker AThat's exactly.
Speaker BYou've already got the power in the room to do that.
Speaker AThat's exactly right.
Speaker BIt's already there.
Speaker BAnd it's so simple, and it's a great way.
Speaker BAnd I found actually a solution today at the show for tile floors.
Speaker BGreat example.
Speaker BSo this happened at my house.
Speaker BYou have the air coming in for the fan underneath the door.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BSo in my house, the tile floor in the first two or three feet of the space was colder because I had the air coming in when the fan was on.
Speaker BSo it was super cooling.
Speaker BThat tile floor area.
Speaker BI found a door company that.
Speaker BAnd we actually.
Speaker BI just put the door in a few months ago at my house here at the show, and it has a groove in the door so the air comes through 50 CFM comes through the door through the decorative groove.
Speaker BSo now your whole tile floor feels heated.
Speaker BSo you don't have to worry about that cold spot walking in.
Speaker AThat's pretty cool.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CThat and the air exchange just between rooms is becoming so much more important.
Speaker CThere's a lot more of the heat pump technology with heating and cooling systems, and even water heating is all moving towards heat pump technology, which requires basically air movement.
Speaker CAnd if you don't have enough volume of air, you have to share it between rooms.
Speaker CSo these types of doors with ventilation.
Speaker BVentilation built in.
Speaker CIt's a big deal.
Speaker CAnd it looks beautiful.
Speaker BAnd the cool thing is, too, is it's quieter than a solid cold door because they designed it like a muffler so it keeps sound from going through.
Speaker BAnd I'm like, okay, you solved that tile problem in the bathroom in there.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AYou got a bonus.
Speaker BYeah, absolutely.
Speaker BGreat.
Speaker BSo that's the cool part, is how companies are coming together to fix some of those inherent issues that we ran into in spaces that you just accepted.
Speaker BWent well.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BThere's air coming in.
Speaker BThat's just going to happen there too.
Speaker BOh, no.
Speaker BWe got to solve now.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker A100%.
Speaker CI love that.
Speaker CThis is, I think this is one of the biggest things I love about, you know, these types of, this type of media, the podcast, where it's like, where else are people going to hear this type of stuff until you've done it wrong?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CAnd then you paid for it.
Speaker CNow you're like, expert then, you know, but like, this is where you get that.
Speaker CListen to stuff like this and you just learn and absorb so many things that you might not know it even existed.
Speaker AResearch, ask questions, talk to friends.
Speaker AWhat worked, what didn't work, what would you do different on your next install, your next project, your next remodel.
Speaker AYeah, that's stuff will pay off.
Speaker BAnd it's great in here because we've got so many trades people, designers, contractors, builders, everybody's in here.
Speaker BAnd the collaboration in this building.
Speaker BAnd then they get to come in here and see the new styles.
Speaker BThe beautiful floor.
Speaker BPeople come in and go, that's a beautiful marble floor.
Speaker BAnd you go, porcelain.
Speaker CExactly.
Speaker CI think one thing that I love about what we're seeing here and what I'm looking for as I walk around the floor is also product availability.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CI think I, I.
Speaker CEarlier this year, I was at the Consumer Electronics show, and as much as I love it, it's turned into such a concept car scenario that 75% of what's there that you're like, that's cool.
Speaker CNever even gets made.
Speaker BNo.
Speaker COr it gets made in such a small quantity.
Speaker CThat it becomes not practically available.
Speaker CThis is another thing that I think everyone should be looking at.
Speaker CAnd whether it's brand leading or just you do enough research to understand stock volumes, you need to start with where you can actually get stuff.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CAnd so you can fall in love with something and it might not be available for eight months.
Speaker CThat's one thing, Patrick, that you and this team does so well.
Speaker CWhat you are showing.
Speaker CYou can go get it.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AWe don't.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CAnd it's.
Speaker CAnd it's available in enough quantity to where you're not.
Speaker CYou're not dying.
Speaker ATo your point, there are strategies where people, CES does that.
Speaker AChristian Real Chronic show does that, where they push something out there.
Speaker ALet's gauge the reaction at the show and then decide a path forward.
Speaker BI call them design hand grenade.
Speaker BThey throw it over there and go, let's see what happens.
Speaker BYep.
Speaker AAnd I think on this floor, I think there's a lot of people that do that.
Speaker AAnd when we launch a product, we're behind the product, and we're going to.
Speaker AWe're going to stock it, we're going to inventory, we're going to merchandise it, we're going to make it available to whatever project needs that product.
Speaker BAnd what's great is, Chip, you're down in Georgia, I'm in Oregon.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker BAnd we can go down to our local showroom and see it right there.
Speaker AThat's exactly right.
Speaker CThat's right.
Speaker BYou know, and it's available like that across the United States, which is awesome.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CAnd that's not as normal as people might think.
Speaker CIt's a.
Speaker CIt takes a huge commitment from the brand to make that happen.
Speaker AIt does.
Speaker AAnd we've been doing it for 78 years.
Speaker CWow.
Speaker A78 this month.
Speaker AWow.
Speaker COkay.
Speaker BWe gotta have a big 80th birthday party here.
Speaker AWe do.
Speaker AFor sure.
Speaker AFor sure.
Speaker AMaybe William will come.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker BSee?
Speaker CWhat do you do for what.
Speaker CWhat do you do for 80 years?
Speaker AWhat is 80?
Speaker CWhat is 80?
Speaker AWhat is eighty?
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker AWe're at the.
Speaker AGet a checker on that.
Speaker CWe probably need jello.
Speaker ADoes that edit button work?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BTrending.
Speaker CTrending.
Speaker BI'll fix it in post.
Speaker BI'll fix it in post.
Speaker COh, gosh.
Speaker CI love it.
Speaker CI love it.
Speaker BSo I wanted.
Speaker BBefore we run out of time, I want to make sure that we talk about all the different stuff in here.
Speaker BBut I mean, from tile to slabs to all of this stuff, it's so gorgeous, so beautiful.
Speaker BAnd what I think is so fun to walk into a booth like this is you get to see the style that fits in your aspect or your next project or whatever you're doing.
Speaker BBecause there's really something for every style.
Speaker AIn here, for every project.
Speaker AIf you think about our, we read our business three ways, three verticals.
Speaker AWe have our commercial business which is going after just that commercial business, whether it's restaurants, office space, hotels, whatever it may be.
Speaker AThen you have our new construction which could be your high volume production builders to your high volume production builders or your custom home builders.
Speaker AAnd then you have the, the largest market that we compete in is our remodel market.
Speaker AThat's your dealer market, your kitchen and bath.
Speaker AAnd we want to make sure we have products as a company.
Speaker AWe, we want, want a box of tile to go on every project, product, project that's out there.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ASo when we launch, we come to this show, we want to make sure that someone may be coming just for slab.
Speaker BYep.
Speaker ABut hey, you know what, let's talk about porcelain.
Speaker ABecause really, porcelain, we're not going anywhere with our quartz products we make in Dixon, Tennessee.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ABut porcelain panels is really the future.
Speaker AIt is, it's lighter now that your labors is still a little bit higher.
Speaker ABut as more people evolve to using it.
Speaker AYeah, that price is going to come down.
Speaker AThat's the future.
Speaker ABut you can discuss that with a quartz customer or countertop customer.
Speaker ASay, hey, you know what, have you thought about this?
Speaker ANow we have what's thicker?
Speaker AYou have a veins through technology that really is going to help.
Speaker ASame thing with tile.
Speaker AYou may be just thinking, I'm just, I'm a kitchen bath person.
Speaker AI just do backsplashes and cabinets.
Speaker AYou know what, someone's going to put something on the floor.
Speaker ASo let's talk about how we can put that into your showroom.
Speaker ASo we look at everything we want to encompass it and then we put some products out there and it's like a little bit of an apple aspirational like, all right, you know what?
Speaker AI can do pink.
Speaker BYeah, I can do it.
Speaker AAnd so that's what we're trying to capture here is to make sure everybody knows that what they want to accomplish, how they want to build their business to satisfy whatever customer they're working with, they get the product they're looking for.
Speaker BThat simple.
Speaker CWhat I'd take away from this is that I think any project anybody does, one of the most important things that you need to do is you need to find something that you just absolutely love.
Speaker CYou need a product that, that when.
Speaker BYou walk in, grab it in the.
Speaker CRoom and it makes you smile, whether it doesn't have to be a huge bit, it doesn't even have to be expensive, but just find something that you're just kind of carnally attracted to because that is definitely tied to the long term happiness of your space, which is what you're gonna live with.
Speaker CAnd what I will say is, when you walk into Daltial, there is no shortage of options to connect with you on that kind of emotional excitement.
Speaker CAnd again, whether it's the pink and.
Speaker COr whatever, we're going to rename this color.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CWe're rebranding pink for here.
Speaker COr it's one of the big porcelain slabs.
Speaker CJust there's.
Speaker CIt is just a candy shop.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AOf.
Speaker COf attractiveness and kind of this, like, emotional connection with product.
Speaker AAgreed.
Speaker CAnd even if it's in small quantity, this is a great spot to look.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BI want to invite our audience too.
Speaker BIf you have a new name for pink or mauve, head over to the website around the house online dot com.
Speaker BSend it in.
Speaker BLet's post this up.
Speaker BLet's see what people think.
Speaker BLet's have a little fun with this.
Speaker CThat's right.
Speaker CWe're all similarly complected.
Speaker CMaybe we should call it like the.
Speaker CThe podcast crew.
Speaker CI feel like that's where we would go.
Speaker CTwo days in South Beach.
Speaker AThat's the color.
Speaker CThat's right.
Speaker BIf we were lucky, some of us might be in the burn unit, but.
Speaker CI think people that are listening can do better.
Speaker AAbsolutely.
Speaker AAbsolutely.
Speaker AWe need some help, folks.
Speaker BWe need some help.
Speaker ALow bar.
Speaker AReach out.
Speaker AReach out.
Speaker BI'm curious.
Speaker BI'm curious.
Speaker AIt'd be interesting to see what they come back with.
Speaker ALet us know.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BCome on, guys, let's do this.
Speaker BSo this could be really fun.
Speaker BAnd the cool thing is that we're talking across the world right now, but if you're in the United States here, you can find your local Del Tile showroom around the corner.
Speaker AYou sure can.
Speaker AJust go to our website and a local dealer is right there to help you.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAnd whether you're the builder, the hotel builder, or just the homeowner that's trying to figure out what's going on.
Speaker BMy backsplash.
Speaker BThere's an answer there for it.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker AWe've got a product for you.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BEven for a treehouse.
Speaker COh, there.
Speaker CThere's going to be so much.
Speaker CI'm so excited.
Speaker BI know.
Speaker BI've seen your video.
Speaker BYou walked around that site.
Speaker AThat's going to be.
Speaker COh, my gosh.
Speaker CThis is going to be an extravaganza.
Speaker CI have put placed eye catching, emotionally connected tile in almost every space.
Speaker BThat's awesome.
Speaker CSo it's gonna.
Speaker CI'm gonna be smiling beyond ear to.
Speaker BEar every time you need William is what you're saying.
Speaker ACome on down William Williams.
Speaker ABring a new name of the color pink.
Speaker BGuys, do we miss anything today?
Speaker BWe've always had a great time.
Speaker BWe could make this like a three and a half hour show.
Speaker AReally good to see you Eric.
Speaker AThis is fantastic.
Speaker CYeah, always a great time.
Speaker CTime.
Speaker BWe always have a great time.
Speaker BAnd Patrick, where do people find you guys?
Speaker AOur website.
Speaker AYou have delta.com, you have americanoland.com and you have marazi.com.
Speaker Aso wherever you, whatever you want to look at, find us and we've got a product for you.
Speaker AThank you very much.
Speaker BAll right guys, thanks for doing this.
