Foreign s welcome to Fed by the Fruit, a podcast focused on nourishment for the mind, body and soul.

Speaker A

I'm kb, a spirit filled certified life and nutrition coach with a calling to disciple women who are hungry for more.

Speaker A

Each week we will learn who God is and what he wants for and from us through powerful testimonies, biblical truth, and so much more as we fuel our minds and bodies in ways that honor him.

Speaker A

Let's get fed.

Speaker A

Hello, friends.

Speaker A

Happy Monday.

Speaker A

How are we?

Speaker A

I hope that you're great.

Speaker A

Welcome back.

Speaker A

Episode 3 of Fed by the Fruit.

Speaker A

This is so exciting to me.

Speaker A

I'm enjoying this so much and I'm just so excited to see where God takes this.

Speaker A

As I mentioned in the first episode, each month the plan will be to have a powerful testimony from a guest, which you heard last week with my friend Lauren Garner.

Speaker A

And then we'll have an episode diving deeper into well known or not so well known stories and characters of the Bible.

Speaker A

And then we'll have an episode on how to apply biblical truth to our daily lives.

Speaker A

And then a wild card where I'm just gonna share what I love or what's happening in my life.

Speaker A

We'll figure it out when we get there.

Speaker A

But this week we are going to dive into the story of Adam and Eve.

Speaker A

So if you listen to the episode about Noah, I mention the story of Adam and Eve and sin entering the world.

Speaker A

And I got a few messages of people being like, share that.

Speaker A

Like, let's start there.

Speaker A

So we're gonna do that today.

Speaker A

We're gonna, we're gonna chat about Adam and Eve and how sin entered the world.

Speaker A

So on the sixth day of creation, God made Adam by breathing life into the dust of the earth.

Speaker A

He placed him in Eden to tend and cultivate the garden.

Speaker A

God saw it was not good for Adam to be alone.

Speaker A

Every living creature in the garden had a mate, except for Adam.

Speaker A

So God put Adam into a deep sleep and used one of Adam's ribs to create a suitable companion.

Speaker A

Adam and Eve were made to complete and care for one another.

Speaker A

So in the middle of the garden, there were two trees.

Speaker A

The Tree of Life.

Speaker A

And then the second tree was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Speaker A

Adam and Eve were allowed to eat from any tree in the garden.

Speaker A

Now, there weren't just two trees, there were many, many trees.

Speaker A

But there were two trees right in the middle.

Speaker A

The one they were not allowed to eat from.

Speaker A

One day, the serpent approached Eve and convinced her to eat the fruit of the forbidden tree, telling her that she would not Die.

Speaker A

But she would just be as wise as God if she did.

Speaker A

Eve fell into the temptation.

Speaker A

She ate the fruit, and she shared it with Adam.

Speaker A

Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they realized they were naked.

Speaker A

This was the first instance of shame on earth.

Speaker A

They tried to cover themselves, and they hid.

Speaker A

Not long after, they heard the sound of God's footsteps as he walked in the garden.

Speaker A

They were living in a garden where God walked.

Speaker A

They heard the sound of his footsteps.

Speaker A

God asked them why they were hiding.

Speaker A

And Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the serpent.

Speaker A

God was angry and sad.

Speaker A

He cursed the serpent to walk on his belly for the rest of his life.

Speaker A

Eve would bear children with great pain.

Speaker A

So if you wonder why childbirth is so painful, it's because Eve ate the fruit.

Speaker A

Um, and Adam had to work in sorrow and sweat to provide for his family until his death.

Speaker A

So the fruit of the tree of life would no longer make them live forever.

Speaker A

They were made to live forever.

Speaker A

God's plan was that they would.

Speaker A

God then expelled them from the Garden of Eden.

Speaker A

And this is how sin entered the world and is often referred to as the fall of man.

Speaker A

In Genesis 3:22, God says, the man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil.

Speaker A

So knowledge in itself is not wrong.

Speaker A

So then you ask, what was so bad about man knowing about Adam and Eve knowing good and evil?

Speaker A

So to understand this, it's vital to know the context of God's statement.

Speaker A

God had already told Adam not to eat from this tree.

Speaker A

Adam was already aware that doing so was wrong, and he knew the consequences.

Speaker A

Yet he chose to join Eve in eating the fruit.

Speaker A

When they ate, they were not simply aware of evil.

Speaker A

They experienced evil.

Speaker A

To the extent that they became evil, they were now sinners by nature.

Speaker A

And now you'll hear that the fall of man came through Adam's sin.

Speaker A

And sometimes people ask, well, didn't it come through Eve's sin?

Speaker A

But the truth is, God had already told Adam not to eat from the tree.

Speaker A

The.

Speaker A

The.

Speaker A

The command not to eat from that tree was given by God to Adam.

Speaker A

He had shared it with Eve, yes, but he's the one who heard it from God himself.

Speaker A

And so he chose in that moment to sin.

Speaker A

When he let Eve tempt him into eating the fruit, he made a choice to sin.

Speaker A

Eve was deceived by the serpent.

Speaker A

Adam knew what was good.

Speaker A

He was created in goodness and was surrounded by it.

Speaker A

He had been given everything God wanted him to have, including authority over all the rest of his creation.

Speaker A

Adam had everything he needed for a fulfilling life.

Speaker A

He did not need to know evil.

Speaker A

Especially when the only way from him to know it was to experience it.

Speaker A

It should have been enough that God had warned Adam against disobedience.

Speaker A

God did not want Adam and Eve to know evil in the sense of participating in it.

Speaker A

The sin of Adam and Eve was not in attaining knowledge, but in rejecting God's will in favor of their own.

Speaker A

Adam and Eve began life in ideal conditions.

Speaker A

They lived in this beautiful garden with plentiful food, a harmonious relationship with one another, and close friend fellowship with God.

Speaker A

But due to sin, they lost their garden.

Speaker A

They were required to work to produce food.

Speaker A

They experienced conflict with each other and damaged their fellowship with God.

Speaker A

These consequences of Adam's sin still affect us today.

Speaker A

This was then entering humanity through the disobedience of Adam and Eve with their free will.

Speaker A

The apostle Paul spoke about the last Adam who is Jesus.

Speaker A

Okay, so you'll hear about the first Adam.

Speaker A

That's Adam, Adam and Eve.

Speaker A

And the last Adam is Jesus, who came to restore our broken relationship with God.

Speaker A

Remember, the relationship is broken because of Adam and Eve's sin in the garden.

Speaker A

Since death came through a man, the first Adam, because we were never meant to die, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man, Jesus, the second Adam.

Speaker A

Adam was responsible for sin's entrance into humanity and Jesus Christ was responsible for providing the way for resurrection.

Speaker A

After sin entered humanity, Jesus became the perfect substitute to allow every person the opportunity to believe and receive eternal life.

Speaker A

It was through Adam that sin entered the world.

Speaker A

How many times can I say it right?

Speaker A

When Adam sinned, he immediately died spiritually.

Speaker A

Okay, that was a spiritual death.

Speaker A

His relationship with God was broken and he also began dying physically.

Speaker A

Remember, we were not meant to die.

Speaker A

His body began the process of growing old and dying.

Speaker A

From that point on, every person has inherited Adam's sin nature and suffered the same consequences of spiritual and physical death.

Speaker A

So next time you see a gray hair or a new wrinkle, blame it on Adam.

Speaker A

We are born physically alive, but spiritually death dead.

Speaker A

This is why Jesus says we must be born again.

Speaker A

I used to be so confused.

Speaker A

I'm like, why do I gotta be born again?

Speaker A

I.

Speaker A

I always believed in Jesus.

Speaker A

Well, guess what?

Speaker A

We were born alive physically, but spiritually dead because of Adam's sin.

Speaker A

Physical birth provides us with a sinful human nature.

Speaker A

Spiritual rebirth provides us with a new nature.

Speaker A

So this physical birth that provides us with a sinful human nature, that is original sin.

Speaker A

We're all born with original sin because of Adam.

Speaker A

So spiritual rebirth provides us with A new nature created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Speaker A

So you may say it's not fair to be saddled with Adam's sin nature, but it's consistent with other aspects of humanity.

Speaker A

We inherit some physical characteristics, such as our eye color, from our parents, right?

Speaker A

And we also inherit some of their spiritual characteristics.

Speaker A

So why should the passing on of spiritual traits be any different from the passing on of physical traits?

Speaker A

We may complain about having brown eyes when we wanted blue, but our eye color is simply a matter of genetics.

Speaker A

In the same way, having a sin nature is a matter of our spiritual genetics.

Speaker A

It's a natural part of life.

Speaker A

We inherit our sin from Adam.

Speaker A

However, the Bible says we are sinners by deed as well as by nature.

Speaker A

So we are sinners twice over.

Speaker A

We sin because we are sinners by Adam's choice, and we are sinners because we sin by our own choice.

Speaker A

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Speaker A

But you may still be saying, but I did not eat the fruit.

Speaker A

True, but Scripture says that we individually and as a human race were all represented by Adam.

Speaker A

And Adam all die.

Speaker A

Adam was the first created human being.

Speaker A

He stood at the head of the human race.

Speaker A

He was placed in the garden to act not only for himself, but for all of his descendants.

Speaker A

Every person ever born was already in Adam, represented by him.

Speaker A

Again, you may say, but I did not eat the fruit.

Speaker A

True, but all sin has consequences beyond the initial wrongdoing.

Speaker A

No man is.

Speaker A

Is an island entire of itself.

Speaker A

The ripples of Adam's momentous sin are still being felt today.

Speaker A

And again, you might say, but I didn't eat the fruit.

Speaker A

True, you were not physically present in the actual Garden of Eden with the juice of forbidden fruit staining the corners of your mouth.

Speaker A

But the Bible seems to indicate that if you had been there instead of Adam, you'd have done the same thing he did.

Speaker A

The apple, as they say, does not fall far from the tree.

Speaker A

Whether or not we think it's fair to have Adam's sin imputed upon us doesn't really matter.

Speaker A

God says that we have inherited Adam's sinful nature.

Speaker A

And who are we to argue with God?

Speaker A

Besides, we are sinners in our own right.

Speaker A

Our own.

Speaker A

Think about it.

Speaker A

Think about the things that you've done.

Speaker A

Our sin, as compared to Adam's sin of taking a bite of an apple, our sin is probably way worse.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

Adam probably seems like a pretty good guy compared to.

Speaker A

Well, I know I'll speak for myself.

Speaker A

Compared to the things I've Done.

Speaker A

My gosh.

Speaker A

So here's the good news.

Speaker A

God loves sinners.

Speaker A

In fact, he acted to overcome our sin nature by sending Jesus to pay for our sins and offer us his righteousness.

Speaker A

Jesus took the death that was our penalty upon Himself, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Speaker A

Note the words in him, we who were once in Adam can now be in Christ by faith, by being reborn.

Speaker A

Christ is our new head.

Speaker A

And in Christ all will be made alive.

Speaker A

So in Adam, we all died.

Speaker A

But in Christ, when you're reborn, you can be alive.

Speaker A

Jesus paid the price for your sins.

Speaker A

So yes, all people inherited sin from Adam and Eve because of their disobedience.

Speaker A

Sin has been an inheritance for all of their descendants.

Speaker A

So again, through Adam, sin entered the world.

Speaker A

And so death was passed on to all men because all have sinned.

Speaker A

This passed on sin is known as inherited sin.

Speaker A

Just as we inherit physical characteristics from our parents, we we inherit our sinful nature from Adam.

Speaker A

Is this making sense?

Speaker A

Does this make sense?

Speaker A

If this is something you never quite understood, I really want this to make sense.

Speaker A

So as you're listening, if you have more questions, please send them to me.

Speaker A

If something doesn't make sense, I would love to dive into it deeper or just send you a message and share my thoughts with you.

Speaker A

Because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, we need a perfect, sinless sacrifice to wash away our sin.

Speaker A

Something we are powerless to do on our own.

Speaker A

Thankfully, Jesus Christ is the Savior from sin.

Speaker A

Our sin has been crucified on the cross of Jesus.

Speaker A

And now in him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his grace.

Speaker A

So God in His infinite wisdom, has provided the remedy for the sin we inherit.

Speaker A

And that remedy is available to everyone.

Speaker A

It may be hard to see how Adam and Eve's falling into sin could bring glory to God.

Speaker A

In fact, some might even wonder why.

Speaker A

Because he did know.

Speaker A

If God knew ahead of time all the trouble they would cause, why did he even make Adam and Eve?

Speaker A

God knows the future, so he definitely knew that Adam and Eve would sin.

Speaker A

But he created them anyway and gave them a free will with which they chose sin.

Speaker A

We must carefully note that Adam and Eve's falling into sin does not mean that God is the author of sin or that he tempted them to sin.

Speaker A

But the fall does serve the purpose of God's overall plan for creation and mankind.

Speaker A

So when you read through the Scripture, these are the conclusions.

Speaker A

The fall of mankind was foreknown by God.

Speaker A

He knew what choice Adam and Eve would make?

Speaker A

The crucifixion of Christ, which is the atonement for God's elect.

Speaker A

That means those reborn, those who believe that Jesus died for their sins was foreordained by God.

Speaker A

All people will one day glorify God.

Speaker A

And God purposes to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.

Speaker A

So God's purpose was to create a world in which his glory could be manifest in all its fullness.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

The glory of God is the overarching goal of creation.

Speaker A

We are made.

Speaker A

Part of our purpose is to glorify God.

Speaker A

The world that best displays the glory of God is the world we have.

Speaker A

A world that was allowed to fall, a world that was redeemed, and a world that will be restored to its original perfection.

Speaker A

And that happens after Jesus comes back.

Speaker A

So this is how God showed His love to us.

Speaker A

He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him.

Speaker A

Had God decided not to create Adam and Eve based on his knowledge of their fall, or had he made them without free will, we would never have truly known what love is.

Speaker A

In the end, God will be glorified as his chosen people worship him for all eternity with the angels.

Speaker A

That's what we get to look forward to in heaven.

Speaker A

And the unbelievers will also glorify God as His righteousness results in the eternal punishment of unrepentant sinners.

Speaker A

That's what they have to look forward to in hell.

Speaker A

Without the fall of Adam and Eve, we would never know God's justice, grace, mercy or love.

Speaker A

So the next time you wonder why bad things happen to good people.

Speaker A

This is why sin entered the world with Adam and Eve and continues because of our own free will, which we used to choose sin every single day.

Speaker A

But God in His infinite mercy, gave us a way out.

Speaker A

He gave us Jesus, the sinless, perfect Lamb of God who died for us.

Speaker A

He took the penalty of our sin upon Himself to make us blameless.

Speaker A

It takes believing this to be reborn and accept the free gift of eternal life.

Speaker A

So because we are sinners, we deserve death.

Speaker A

But by the blood of Jesus on the cross, we are blameless in God's sight.

Speaker A

Wow.

Speaker A

How incredible is that?

Speaker A

We have a memory verse for June and I want to remind you of it.

Speaker A

It's actually two verses.

Speaker A

Galatians 5, 22 and 23.

Speaker A

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives.

Speaker A

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.

Speaker A

There is no law against these things.

Speaker A

Write it.

Speaker A

Study it, meditate on it.

Speaker A

Ask yourself where you can see the fruit being developed in your own life.

Speaker A

I hope you learned something today.

Speaker A

I hope that this was maybe it was just a little refresher on all the things that you already knew, or maybe you'd never heard the story before.

Speaker A

And either way, I'm so grateful that that you're here.

Speaker A

I'm so excited to be doing this with all of you, and I can't wait for whatever the Lord brings us next Monday.
