Speaker AEach week we will learn who God is and what he wants for and from us through powerful testimonies, biblical truth, and so much more as we fuel our minds and bodies in ways that honor him.
Speaker ALet's get fed.
Speaker AHello, friends.
Speaker AHappy Monday.
Speaker AHow are we?
Speaker AI hope that you're great.
Speaker AWelcome back.
Speaker AEpisode 3 of Fed by the Fruit.
Speaker AThis is so exciting to me.
Speaker AI'm enjoying this so much and I'm just so excited to see where God takes this.
Speaker AAs I mentioned in the first episode, each month the plan will be to have a powerful testimony from a guest, which you heard last week with my friend Lauren Garner.
Speaker AAnd then we'll have an episode diving deeper into well known or not so well known stories and characters of the Bible.
Speaker AAnd then we'll have an episode on how to apply biblical truth to our daily lives.
Speaker AAnd then a wild card where I'm just gonna share what I love or what's happening in my life.
Speaker AWe'll figure it out when we get there.
Speaker ABut this week we are going to dive into the story of Adam and Eve.
Speaker ASo if you listen to the episode about Noah, I mention the story of Adam and Eve and sin entering the world.
Speaker AAnd I got a few messages of people being like, share that.
Speaker ALike, let's start there.
Speaker ASo we're gonna do that today.
Speaker AWe're gonna, we're gonna chat about Adam and Eve and how sin entered the world.
Speaker ASo on the sixth day of creation, God made Adam by breathing life into the dust of the earth.
Speaker AHe placed him in Eden to tend and cultivate the garden.
Speaker AGod saw it was not good for Adam to be alone.
Speaker AEvery living creature in the garden had a mate, except for Adam.
Speaker ASo God put Adam into a deep sleep and used one of Adam's ribs to create a suitable companion.
Speaker AAdam and Eve were made to complete and care for one another.
Speaker ASo in the middle of the garden, there were two trees.
Speaker AThe Tree of Life.
Speaker AAnd then the second tree was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Speaker AAdam and Eve were allowed to eat from any tree in the garden.
Speaker ANow, there weren't just two trees, there were many, many trees.
Speaker ABut there were two trees right in the middle.
Speaker AThe one they were not allowed to eat from.
Speaker AOne day, the serpent approached Eve and convinced her to eat the fruit of the forbidden tree, telling her that she would not Die.
Speaker ABut she would just be as wise as God if she did.
Speaker AEve fell into the temptation.
Speaker AShe ate the fruit, and she shared it with Adam.
Speaker ASuddenly, their eyes were opened, and they realized they were naked.
Speaker AThis was the first instance of shame on earth.
Speaker AThey tried to cover themselves, and they hid.
Speaker ANot long after, they heard the sound of God's footsteps as he walked in the garden.
Speaker AThey were living in a garden where God walked.
Speaker AThey heard the sound of his footsteps.
Speaker AGod asked them why they were hiding.
Speaker AAnd Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the serpent.
Speaker AGod was angry and sad.
Speaker AHe cursed the serpent to walk on his belly for the rest of his life.
Speaker AEve would bear children with great pain.
Speaker ASo if you wonder why childbirth is so painful, it's because Eve ate the fruit.
Speaker AUm, and Adam had to work in sorrow and sweat to provide for his family until his death.
Speaker ASo the fruit of the tree of life would no longer make them live forever.
Speaker AThey were made to live forever.
Speaker AGod's plan was that they would.
Speaker AGod then expelled them from the Garden of Eden.
Speaker AAnd this is how sin entered the world and is often referred to as the fall of man.
Speaker AIn Genesis 3:22, God says, the man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil.
Speaker ASo knowledge in itself is not wrong.
Speaker ASo then you ask, what was so bad about man knowing about Adam and Eve knowing good and evil?
Speaker ASo to understand this, it's vital to know the context of God's statement.
Speaker AGod had already told Adam not to eat from this tree.
Speaker AAdam was already aware that doing so was wrong, and he knew the consequences.
Speaker AYet he chose to join Eve in eating the fruit.
Speaker AWhen they ate, they were not simply aware of evil.
Speaker AThey experienced evil.
Speaker ATo the extent that they became evil, they were now sinners by nature.
Speaker AAnd now you'll hear that the fall of man came through Adam's sin.
Speaker AAnd sometimes people ask, well, didn't it come through Eve's sin?
Speaker ABut the truth is, God had already told Adam not to eat from the tree.
Speaker AThe.
Speaker AThe.
Speaker AThe command not to eat from that tree was given by God to Adam.
Speaker AHe had shared it with Eve, yes, but he's the one who heard it from God himself.
Speaker AAnd so he chose in that moment to sin.
Speaker AWhen he let Eve tempt him into eating the fruit, he made a choice to sin.
Speaker AEve was deceived by the serpent.
Speaker AAdam knew what was good.
Speaker AHe was created in goodness and was surrounded by it.
Speaker AHe had been given everything God wanted him to have, including authority over all the rest of his creation.
Speaker AAdam had everything he needed for a fulfilling life.
Speaker AHe did not need to know evil.
Speaker AEspecially when the only way from him to know it was to experience it.
Speaker AIt should have been enough that God had warned Adam against disobedience.
Speaker AGod did not want Adam and Eve to know evil in the sense of participating in it.
Speaker AThe sin of Adam and Eve was not in attaining knowledge, but in rejecting God's will in favor of their own.
Speaker AAdam and Eve began life in ideal conditions.
Speaker AThey lived in this beautiful garden with plentiful food, a harmonious relationship with one another, and close friend fellowship with God.
Speaker ABut due to sin, they lost their garden.
Speaker AThey were required to work to produce food.
Speaker AThey experienced conflict with each other and damaged their fellowship with God.
Speaker AThese consequences of Adam's sin still affect us today.
Speaker AThis was then entering humanity through the disobedience of Adam and Eve with their free will.
Speaker AThe apostle Paul spoke about the last Adam who is Jesus.
Speaker AOkay, so you'll hear about the first Adam.
Speaker AThat's Adam, Adam and Eve.
Speaker AAnd the last Adam is Jesus, who came to restore our broken relationship with God.
Speaker ARemember, the relationship is broken because of Adam and Eve's sin in the garden.
Speaker ASince death came through a man, the first Adam, because we were never meant to die, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man, Jesus, the second Adam.
Speaker AAdam was responsible for sin's entrance into humanity and Jesus Christ was responsible for providing the way for resurrection.
Speaker AAfter sin entered humanity, Jesus became the perfect substitute to allow every person the opportunity to believe and receive eternal life.
Speaker AIt was through Adam that sin entered the world.
Speaker AHow many times can I say it right?
Speaker AWhen Adam sinned, he immediately died spiritually.
Speaker AOkay, that was a spiritual death.
Speaker AHis relationship with God was broken and he also began dying physically.
Speaker ARemember, we were not meant to die.
Speaker AHis body began the process of growing old and dying.
Speaker AFrom that point on, every person has inherited Adam's sin nature and suffered the same consequences of spiritual and physical death.
Speaker ASo next time you see a gray hair or a new wrinkle, blame it on Adam.
Speaker AWe are born physically alive, but spiritually death dead.
Speaker AThis is why Jesus says we must be born again.
Speaker AI used to be so confused.
Speaker AI'm like, why do I gotta be born again?
Speaker AI.
Speaker AI always believed in Jesus.
Speaker AWell, guess what?
Speaker AWe were born alive physically, but spiritually dead because of Adam's sin.
Speaker APhysical birth provides us with a sinful human nature.
Speaker ASpiritual rebirth provides us with a new nature.
Speaker ASo this physical birth that provides us with a sinful human nature, that is original sin.
Speaker AWe're all born with original sin because of Adam.
Speaker ASo spiritual rebirth provides us with A new nature created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Speaker ASo you may say it's not fair to be saddled with Adam's sin nature, but it's consistent with other aspects of humanity.
Speaker AWe inherit some physical characteristics, such as our eye color, from our parents, right?
Speaker AAnd we also inherit some of their spiritual characteristics.
Speaker ASo why should the passing on of spiritual traits be any different from the passing on of physical traits?
Speaker AWe may complain about having brown eyes when we wanted blue, but our eye color is simply a matter of genetics.
Speaker AIn the same way, having a sin nature is a matter of our spiritual genetics.
Speaker AIt's a natural part of life.
Speaker AWe inherit our sin from Adam.
Speaker AHowever, the Bible says we are sinners by deed as well as by nature.
Speaker ASo we are sinners twice over.
Speaker AWe sin because we are sinners by Adam's choice, and we are sinners because we sin by our own choice.
Speaker AAll have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Speaker ABut you may still be saying, but I did not eat the fruit.
Speaker ATrue, but Scripture says that we individually and as a human race were all represented by Adam.
Speaker AAnd Adam all die.
Speaker AAdam was the first created human being.
Speaker AHe stood at the head of the human race.
Speaker AHe was placed in the garden to act not only for himself, but for all of his descendants.
Speaker AEvery person ever born was already in Adam, represented by him.
Speaker AAgain, you may say, but I did not eat the fruit.
Speaker ATrue, but all sin has consequences beyond the initial wrongdoing.
Speaker ANo man is.
Speaker AIs an island entire of itself.
Speaker AThe ripples of Adam's momentous sin are still being felt today.
Speaker AAnd again, you might say, but I didn't eat the fruit.
Speaker ATrue, you were not physically present in the actual Garden of Eden with the juice of forbidden fruit staining the corners of your mouth.
Speaker ABut the Bible seems to indicate that if you had been there instead of Adam, you'd have done the same thing he did.
Speaker AThe apple, as they say, does not fall far from the tree.
Speaker AWhether or not we think it's fair to have Adam's sin imputed upon us doesn't really matter.
Speaker AGod says that we have inherited Adam's sinful nature.
Speaker AAnd who are we to argue with God?
Speaker ABesides, we are sinners in our own right.
Speaker AOur own.
Speaker AThink about it.
Speaker AThink about the things that you've done.
Speaker AOur sin, as compared to Adam's sin of taking a bite of an apple, our sin is probably way worse.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AAdam probably seems like a pretty good guy compared to.
Speaker AWell, I know I'll speak for myself.
Speaker ACompared to the things I've Done.
Speaker AMy gosh.
Speaker ASo here's the good news.
Speaker AGod loves sinners.
Speaker AIn fact, he acted to overcome our sin nature by sending Jesus to pay for our sins and offer us his righteousness.
Speaker AJesus took the death that was our penalty upon Himself, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Speaker ANote the words in him, we who were once in Adam can now be in Christ by faith, by being reborn.
Speaker AChrist is our new head.
Speaker AAnd in Christ all will be made alive.
Speaker ASo in Adam, we all died.
Speaker ABut in Christ, when you're reborn, you can be alive.
Speaker AJesus paid the price for your sins.
Speaker ASo yes, all people inherited sin from Adam and Eve because of their disobedience.
Speaker ASin has been an inheritance for all of their descendants.
Speaker ASo again, through Adam, sin entered the world.
Speaker AAnd so death was passed on to all men because all have sinned.
Speaker AThis passed on sin is known as inherited sin.
Speaker AJust as we inherit physical characteristics from our parents, we we inherit our sinful nature from Adam.
Speaker AIs this making sense?
Speaker ADoes this make sense?
Speaker AIf this is something you never quite understood, I really want this to make sense.
Speaker ASo as you're listening, if you have more questions, please send them to me.
Speaker AIf something doesn't make sense, I would love to dive into it deeper or just send you a message and share my thoughts with you.
Speaker ABecause all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, we need a perfect, sinless sacrifice to wash away our sin.
Speaker ASomething we are powerless to do on our own.
Speaker AThankfully, Jesus Christ is the Savior from sin.
Speaker AOur sin has been crucified on the cross of Jesus.
Speaker AAnd now in him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his grace.
Speaker ASo God in His infinite wisdom, has provided the remedy for the sin we inherit.
Speaker AAnd that remedy is available to everyone.
Speaker AIt may be hard to see how Adam and Eve's falling into sin could bring glory to God.
Speaker AIn fact, some might even wonder why.
Speaker ABecause he did know.
Speaker AIf God knew ahead of time all the trouble they would cause, why did he even make Adam and Eve?
Speaker AGod knows the future, so he definitely knew that Adam and Eve would sin.
Speaker ABut he created them anyway and gave them a free will with which they chose sin.
Speaker AWe must carefully note that Adam and Eve's falling into sin does not mean that God is the author of sin or that he tempted them to sin.
Speaker ABut the fall does serve the purpose of God's overall plan for creation and mankind.
Speaker ASo when you read through the Scripture, these are the conclusions.
Speaker AThe fall of mankind was foreknown by God.
Speaker AHe knew what choice Adam and Eve would make?
Speaker AThe crucifixion of Christ, which is the atonement for God's elect.
Speaker AThat means those reborn, those who believe that Jesus died for their sins was foreordained by God.
Speaker AAll people will one day glorify God.
Speaker AAnd God purposes to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.
Speaker ASo God's purpose was to create a world in which his glory could be manifest in all its fullness.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AThe glory of God is the overarching goal of creation.
Speaker AWe are made.
Speaker APart of our purpose is to glorify God.
Speaker AThe world that best displays the glory of God is the world we have.
Speaker AA world that was allowed to fall, a world that was redeemed, and a world that will be restored to its original perfection.
Speaker AAnd that happens after Jesus comes back.
Speaker ASo this is how God showed His love to us.
Speaker AHe sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him.
Speaker AHad God decided not to create Adam and Eve based on his knowledge of their fall, or had he made them without free will, we would never have truly known what love is.
Speaker AIn the end, God will be glorified as his chosen people worship him for all eternity with the angels.
Speaker AThat's what we get to look forward to in heaven.
Speaker AAnd the unbelievers will also glorify God as His righteousness results in the eternal punishment of unrepentant sinners.
Speaker AThat's what they have to look forward to in hell.
Speaker AWithout the fall of Adam and Eve, we would never know God's justice, grace, mercy or love.
Speaker ASo the next time you wonder why bad things happen to good people.
Speaker AThis is why sin entered the world with Adam and Eve and continues because of our own free will, which we used to choose sin every single day.
Speaker ABut God in His infinite mercy, gave us a way out.
Speaker AHe gave us Jesus, the sinless, perfect Lamb of God who died for us.
Speaker AHe took the penalty of our sin upon Himself to make us blameless.
Speaker AIt takes believing this to be reborn and accept the free gift of eternal life.
Speaker ASo because we are sinners, we deserve death.
Speaker ABut by the blood of Jesus on the cross, we are blameless in God's sight.
Speaker AWow.
Speaker AHow incredible is that?
Speaker AWe have a memory verse for June and I want to remind you of it.
Speaker AIt's actually two verses.
Speaker AGalatians 5, 22 and 23.
Speaker ABut the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives.
Speaker ALove, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.
Speaker AThere is no law against these things.
Speaker AWrite it.
Speaker AStudy it, meditate on it.
Speaker AAsk yourself where you can see the fruit being developed in your own life.
Speaker AI hope you learned something today.
Speaker AI hope that this was maybe it was just a little refresher on all the things that you already knew, or maybe you'd never heard the story before.
