Collagen is a fibrous protein. It will improve the
Speaker:skin's elasticity. It will promote a firmer and more
Speaker:youthful appearance. It also helps reduce wrinkles by
Speaker:providing structural support to the skin. As we age, our
Speaker:collagen production decreases. So we want to make sure that our collagen levels
Speaker:are... See, buckthorn in skincare is one of the
Speaker:richest sources of antioxidants that we know. Welcome
Speaker:to The Holistic Skin Guru, where what's on the surface is just
Speaker:as important as what's underneath. I'm your host, Aamena. Let's
Speaker:dive deep into the world of holistic skincare. Today
Speaker:we're going to be talking about two buzzwords in the industry, collagen
Speaker:and sea buckthorn. Now you may not have heard about
Speaker:the second one, but the first one has been thrown around a
Speaker:lot. I'm going to talk about sea buckthorn first. It
Speaker:is derived from a small yellow orange berry and
Speaker:it's gained its popularity in skincare Because
Speaker:of its rich nutrient profile, it contains a
Speaker:variety of bioactive compounds including vitamins,
Speaker:minerals and antioxidants. It also
Speaker:contains fatty acids. It's rich in antioxidants, it's
Speaker:anti-inflammatory and it promotes skin healing.
Speaker:it nourishes and moisturizes and supports collagen
Speaker:production. So you'll see buckthorn in
Speaker:anti-aging ingredients, in anti-aging products, you'll
Speaker:see buckthorn and it's kind of one of those miracle
Speaker:ingredients that is derived from nature. It
Speaker:also complements UV protection. So you sometimes see
Speaker:it in holistic or organic UV
Speaker:SPF protectants, and it will improve
Speaker:collagen, skin elasticity, it will retain the
Speaker:moisture in the skin, It supports the collagen production
Speaker:and it promotes healing. So you sometimes see
Speaker:sea buckthorn also in some acne products.
Speaker:The benefits of sea buckthorn in skincare is that it is an
Speaker:antioxidant. It is one of the richest sources of
Speaker:antioxidants that we know, like vitamin C and
Speaker:vitamin E, like beta carotene and
Speaker:flavonoids. These antioxidants help combat free
Speaker:radicals in the skin and protect the skin from oxidative
Speaker:stress and premature aging. So that's why we
Speaker:love C. buckthorn. It is also anti-inflammatory because
Speaker:it's derived from a berry. It contains compounds such
Speaker:as quercetin, omega-3 fatty acids, which
Speaker:we like to get from our EFAs that
Speaker:we can take as a supplement. We get it. It's found in C.
Speaker:buckthorn as well. So these properties can help soothe
Speaker:irritated skin, reduce redness, alleviate inflammatory
Speaker:conditions like eczema and dermatitis. So it's really,
Speaker:really nourishing and good for clients who
Speaker:have got that little erythema in their skin, or
Speaker:if you've got that common redness in your skin that most people
Speaker:have, any product with Seabuckthorn is going to be your
Speaker:friend. And Seabuckthorn promotes healing. So
Speaker:the oil is known for its ability to promote skin regeneration and
Speaker:wound healing. So it supports the skin's natural repair processes,
Speaker:which makes it beneficial for treating scars and cuts
Speaker:and burns. It's also very nourishing and moisturizing.
Speaker:It is rich in fatty acids, including omega-7, which
Speaker:helps moisturize the skin and it improves its
Speaker:hydration. So when you're using this in conjunction with
Speaker:your hyaluronic acid, you get a powerhouse of hydration. It
Speaker:nourishes the skin and it makes it suitable for addressing dryness
Speaker:and promoting a healthy complexion. It also supports
Speaker:collagen production because collagen synthesis in
Speaker:the skin is what sea buckthorn is going to
Speaker:maintain. It's also going to aid in maintaining skin
Speaker:elasticity and firmness. Collagen is
Speaker:essential for maintaining the skin's structural integrity and
Speaker:preventing sagging or wrinkles. So that's why sea buckthorn
Speaker:is so great. It just complements collagen so beautifully. So
Speaker:if you're already taking a collagen supplement, like
Speaker:a hydrolyzed collagen, you wanna make sure that one of your products contains
Speaker:Seabuckthorn, and then they will work in synergy together.
Speaker:Seabuckthorn also has UV protection built into it, so
Speaker:it will help protect the skin against UV radiation. It's
Speaker:not a substitute for sunscreen, but it can complement your
Speaker:sun protection efforts. So it's a really good one if you are
Speaker:worried about sun protection. Now we can talk about collagen because
Speaker:collagen is naturally formed in our skin, but it
Speaker:depletes as we get older. So we want to make sure that we
Speaker:put it back either by stimulating our natural
Speaker:collagen production in our skin, in our subcutaneous tissue, or
Speaker:by putting it back with a natural collagen into
Speaker:our skin, delivered through our skin. Collagen
Speaker:is a fibrous protein that provides structure and
Speaker:elasticity to the skin. And as we age, our collagen production
Speaker:decreases, and that's what leads to the formation of
Speaker:fine lines and wrinkles and starts the sagging process
Speaker:of the skin. So we want to make sure that our collagen levels are
Speaker:nice and high. And by increasing it, we want to replenish
Speaker:it with our serums, make sure
Speaker:that we take it as a hydrolyzed supplement, and
Speaker:we will then start to see the benefits of collagen in
Speaker:our skin. It will improve the skin's elasticity. It
Speaker:will promote a firmer and more youthful appearance. It
Speaker:also helps reduce wrinkles by providing structural support
Speaker:to the skin. So for example, when we do Haifu, which
Speaker:is a treatment, a skin treatment, it actually stimulates
Speaker:the subcutaneous tissue, which is deep down past
Speaker:the dermal layers of the skin. And in that subcutaneous tissue,
Speaker:we have mechanisms that produce collagen. So
Speaker:when we're doing that, and then we're using a topical collagen on
Speaker:top, and we're ingesting a hydrolyzed collagen, we're actually
Speaker:starting to fight the diminishing amounts of
Speaker:collagen in our body at a much higher rate. And so our skin starts
Speaker:to respond to that. Collagen will also help the
Speaker:water-binding properties in our skin, and it's going to help the
Speaker:skin to retain its moisture. This can contribute to
Speaker:improved hydration levels, making our skin look plump
Speaker:and supple. So the collagen works really well hand-in-hand
Speaker:with the sea buckthorn, as well as with our hyaluronic acid.
Speaker:It will also promote wound healing, because collagen aids
Speaker:the healing of wounds and scars, and it supports the
Speaker:skin's regeneration process. It can help to minimize
Speaker:the appearance of scars and overall skin texture, and
Speaker:it also has anti-aging properties in it, so it will reduce
Speaker:the visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine
Speaker:lines. It supports the skin's natural repair mechanisms
Speaker:and promotes a smoother complexion. So overall,
Speaker:it will enhance the skin's firmness and over
Speaker:years, the gravity, it's going to combat the gravity that
Speaker:prevents the sagging. We boost our collagen production
Speaker:through skincare ingredients, through
Speaker:our diet, through peptides. We want to make sure
Speaker:that we use collagen boosting ingredients in all of our
Speaker:skincare. So it's a valuable ingredient alongside
Speaker:sea buckthorn. Both of these ingredients are buzzwords. You'll
Speaker:hear them being thrown around. You'll see them on ingredient lists. They
Speaker:are absolutely beneficial for your skin. They
Speaker:are antioxidants and anti-inflammatory, moisturizing,
Speaker:hydrating, and a well-rounded contributor
Speaker:to your skincare routine to help promote healthy,
Speaker:youthful looking skin. I hope you enjoyed today's episode
