Speaker:

bills when those grown kids won't fly.

Speaker:

The coup man, we had a active and interesting discussion.

Speaker:

We discussed strategies to handle financial responsibilities within the

Speaker:

family, and most importantly, and this was the key to the whole thing, was how

Speaker:

to navigate those tricky conversations.

Speaker:

So if you missed it, be sure to check it out on our website.

Speaker:

That's it.

Speaker:

Ask ralph.com.

Speaker:

That's where you'll find all of our episodes.

Speaker:

Well, let's get to today's listener question, and today's

Speaker:

question comes from Courtney.

Speaker:

And Courtney writes this, and Courtney, thank you so much for this.

Speaker:

She said,

Speaker:

Ralph, I feel like I'm just going through the motions at work.

Speaker:

I'm earning a good salary, but it feels empty.

Speaker:

I wake up every day feeling like I'm just working to pay the bills and

Speaker:

there's no deeper meaning to what I do.

Speaker:

I've always wanted my work to reflect my faith and make a difference.

Speaker:

But I don't know where to start.

Speaker:

I'm tired of feeling like I'm a cog in a machine.

Speaker:

How can I turn my paycheck into purpose and find the

Speaker:

fulfillment that I'm yearning for?

Speaker:

Well, Courtney, thank you so much for your question because listen, I know

Speaker:

exactly how you feel and I bet there are.

Speaker:

Other people listening right now that are saying the same thing,

Speaker:

they feel like it's just a grind.

Speaker:

They feel like they're getting that paycheck, but what is the purpose?

Speaker:

And see, it's so easy to get caught up in that daily grind.

Speaker:

It's easy to lose sight of the bigger picture.

Speaker:

And many of us have felt that our jobs are, are just a means

Speaker:

to an end, a way to put money in the bank, a way to pay the bills.

Speaker:

But then deep down we, we yearn for something more meaningful.

Speaker:

We yearn for something that aligns with our core values and our faith.

Speaker:

And listen, I've been there myself.

Speaker:

And I've worked with many people who felt the same way.

Speaker:

But Courtney, here's the good news, and this is great news.

Speaker:

There is a way to transform your paycheck into purpose, and I'm

Speaker:

gonna help you do just that today.

Speaker:

Remember, you can submit your questions just like Courtney did by going to just

Speaker:

ask ralph.com, because here's the truth, I love answering your questions, and

Speaker:

that's the central part of the show.

Speaker:

It's my goal to provide you with the answers you need.

Speaker:

Well, let's start with a Bible verse that speaks to this very topic, Courtney.

Speaker:

I found this in the book of Colossians, chapter three verses 23 and 24,

Speaker:

and it says this, and I think this is almost an anthem for our work.

Speaker:

It says, whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working

Speaker:

for the Lord, not human Masters.

Speaker:

Since you know that you'll receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward,

Speaker:

it is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Speaker:

I. Think about how humbling that is.

Speaker:

It's so easy to get caught up in that, that daily grind.

Speaker:

You're like, oh, I'm working for my boss, I'm working for my manager,

Speaker:

I'm working for whoever that is.

Speaker:

But when you change your perspective, when you change the dynamic and

Speaker:

you start to realize that it is the Lord Christ, you are serving,

Speaker:

man, it just changes everything.

Speaker:

And see this verse reminds us that our work is not just about earning

Speaker:

that paycheck, it's not about getting that money in your bank

Speaker:

account through direct deposits.

Speaker:

It's about serving God.

Speaker:

It's about finding purpose.

Speaker:

And most importantly, and this is Courtney.

Speaker:

This is exactly what you were asking me.

Speaker:

It's finding purpose and meaning in what we do.

Speaker:

And listen, I'm so grateful for the opportunity to discuss this

Speaker:

topic with you today, Courtney.

Speaker:

Because the Lord has given me experience, he's given me understanding.

Speaker:

I've been helping people overcome their financial

Speaker:

challenges from a place of faith.

Speaker:

So today it's just another privilege to share this knowledge and to help you find

Speaker:

deeper meaning in your work and finances because the truth of the matter is.

Speaker:

Your questions really fuel my soul.

Speaker:

So, Courtney, your question about finding Purpo in your

Speaker:

paycheck really resonated with me.

Speaker:

It really, it, it touched me in a way that I haven't been touched in a while.

Speaker:

And I said, you know what?

Speaker:

I can, I, I know what Courtney's going through and reminds me of

Speaker:

a woman I worked with a few years back, and her name was Anna.

Speaker:

Now, Anna, I don't know what you do for a living, Courtney, but Anna was

Speaker:

a talented graphic designer and she was running her own small business,

Speaker:

and when you looked at it from the outside, hey, things looked pretty good.

Speaker:

She had a steady stream of clients, a, a nice portfolio, and she had

Speaker:

what seemed from the outside a seemingly comfortable lifestyle.

Speaker:

But that didn't tell the whole story.

Speaker:

See, beneath the surface, Anna was drowning in financial shame.

Speaker:

She became a client of mine.

Speaker:

We started working together, and one day she said, but her voice was trembling.

Speaker:

She said, Ralph, I'm deeply in debt.

Speaker:

'cause I made some unwise decisions early on in my business.

Speaker:

I overspent on equipment.

Speaker:

I, I hadn't been tracking my expenses diligently.

Speaker:

And man, I ran up these credit cards to cover the gaps in my

Speaker:

income as I was starting a business.

Speaker:

And now I've got this mountain of debt.

Speaker:

And she said to me, she says, Ralph, I feel trapped.

Speaker:

I'm, I'm constantly worried about making ends meet.

Speaker:

And that shame that Anna was feeling that kept her from seeking help.

Speaker:

Because just like you, Courtney, maybe she felt like a failure, especially

Speaker:

when she looked at her Christian faith.

Speaker:

She said to me, she says, Ralph, I feel like I should be

Speaker:

handling my finances better.

Speaker:

She felt that her faith should have guided her to make wiser choices

Speaker:

and, and that shame she was feeling, and I felt this too, that shame she

Speaker:

was feeling was paralyzing and it wasn't just impacting her finances,

Speaker:

it was impacting her relationships.

Speaker:

And her overall wellbeing because this is what this tends to do.

Speaker:

And she found herself withdrawing from friends.

Speaker:

She was feeling unworthy and she was feeling embarrassed.

Speaker:

So as I often talk about on the show, I took off my accountant and

Speaker:

tax hat and I put on my counseling hat and we started to work together.

Speaker:

And the first thing we did that first step was acknowledging that

Speaker:

shame that she was feeling, and starting to break that silence.

Speaker:

And it was liberating for her.

Speaker:

I remember just admitting her struggles out loud was a huge hurdle.

Speaker:

She had never shared that with anybody.

Speaker:

She said, you know, from the outside Ralph, I've always done the right thing.

Speaker:

People look at me and they, and they see success.

Speaker:

But when she was finally able to admit those struggles out loud,

Speaker:

it was incredibly liberating.

Speaker:

And then we started to work on the financial side.

Speaker:

This is what I do best.

Speaker:

We, we created a budget.

Speaker:

Yes, Ralph talks about budgets, but we created a realistic one.

Speaker:

We created a budget that would address her immediate needs and also focus on

Speaker:

chipping away at that debt she had built.

Speaker:

I. And see it wasn't about drastic changes overnight.

Speaker:

You're not going to get that.

Speaker:

If you think that you are going to make drastic changes overnight besides

Speaker:

hitting the lottery, guess what?

Speaker:

You are going to take time.

Speaker:

It's going to take effort.

Speaker:

But here's my promise and just like I did with Anna, but small

Speaker:

consistent steps moving forward.

Speaker:

Started to work at it and we, we talked about ways to increase her income.

Speaker:

We talked about leveraging her design skills to offer new services and try

Speaker:

to attract higher paying clients.

Speaker:

And then she shared something with me.

Speaker:

She said, Ralph, one of the most powerful moments She said, I go to a

Speaker:

small church group, and she was having their, their Sunday morning meeting

Speaker:

and, and she says, Ralph, just all of a sudden I felt like I need to share this.

Speaker:

And she shared her struggles with the group and she talked about her

Speaker:

journey towards financial health.

Speaker:

And all of a sudden she noticed other people had experienced the same thing.

Speaker:

She wasn't alone in this.

Speaker:

And that outpouring of support she received was absolutely overwhelming.

Speaker:

See, she didn't just find emotional support and encouragement,

Speaker:

but others, members of her group offered practical help.

Speaker:

They connected her with new clients and shared their own financial wisdom.

Speaker:

See, many of them had been through the same things, and,

Speaker:

and they felt that embarrassment.

Speaker:

They felt that shame.

Speaker:

They felt like there was nobody to turn to.

Speaker:

But now all of a sudden they saw Anna and they, they put their arms around her.

Speaker:

Then the next time I saw Anna, let me just tell you that transformation

Speaker:

was remarkable because as she gained control of her finances, that shame

Speaker:

began to dissipate, and it was replaced by a true sense of empowerment.

Speaker:

It was replaced with a sense of hope, and the big aha moment is when

Speaker:

she realized that her worth wasn't tied to her financial situation.

Speaker:

It was so much bigger than that, and I was so happy to see that.

Speaker:

She finally realized that her worth was not tied to that financial situation,

Speaker:

but tied to her identity as a child of God, and that's what we all need to do.

Speaker:

And Anna started using her financial journey to encourage others.

Speaker:

She became a mentor.

Speaker:

She shared her story, and she offered support for those struggling

Speaker:

with these very same challenges.

Speaker:

And she discovered her purpose was not just inner design work that was,

Speaker:

that was great, but the creativity she brought to that, she also used

Speaker:

it to help others find financial peace and find financial freedom.

Speaker:

And Courtney, lemme just tell you this, just like Anna did,

Speaker:

you can overcome financial shame.

Speaker:

And if you're listening to this right now.

Speaker:

Hear me on this.

Speaker:

You can overcome financial shame.

Speaker:

I'm gonna talk to you about in a few ways, in just a few

Speaker:

minutes of how you can do that.

Speaker:

But here's, lemme tell you this.

Speaker:

It's gonna take courage.

Speaker:

It's gonna take courage.

Speaker:

You're gonna have to have that courageous first step to step out and do it.

Speaker:

It's gonna take honesty.

Speaker:

You're gonna have to be honest.

Speaker:

You're gonna have to have that a moment when you say, yes, I have failed at this.

Speaker:

She's not shame in admitting that you failed.

Speaker:

The shame is if you don't do anything about it.

Speaker:

Which leads me to the last piece of this.

Speaker:

You've gotta have a willingness to take action.

Speaker:

You gotta start by acknowledging your struggles, just like Anna did

Speaker:

admit them, she admitted them to me, and then getting that support, she

Speaker:

got support from me, she got support from her small group at church.

Speaker:

And then you gotta put those things into action.

Speaker:

Create that budget, explore ways to increase your

Speaker:

income, and most importantly.

Speaker:

And hear me on this.

Speaker:

This is why I do this show.

Speaker:

Remember that God's love and grace are always available to you regardless

Speaker:

of your financial situation.

Speaker:

God is not going to judge you.

Speaker:

He wants you to get past where you are.

Speaker:

He just wants you to acknowledge it to him and ask him for his help.

Speaker:

And let me share something very personal with you, Courtney.

Speaker:

There was a time in my life when I felt completely empty.

Speaker:

Just to be very candid with you.

Speaker:

Despite having a successful career, I, I was making good money, but

Speaker:

there were times when I felt like I, there was just no purpose behind it.

Speaker:

I was just doing that daily grind.

Speaker:

I was just going through the motions and there were dark times that left me

Speaker:

feeling completely unfulfilled and, and disconnected from what truly mattered.

Speaker:

And I was in a dark place.

Speaker:

And, but it was when I finally started aligning my work with my

Speaker:

faith that everything changed.

Speaker:

Courtney, I found a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment, and one of

Speaker:

the key aspects of finding purpose is honestly, it's stewarding your

Speaker:

finances with a higher purpose.

Speaker:

And that's what this today's show is all about.

Speaker:

Because here's the truth, God has trusted you with financial resources.

Speaker:

He's given them to you.

Speaker:

They're not yours.

Speaker:

I've said this many times on your show.

Speaker:

He's entrusted you with them and it's your responsibility to use them wisely.

Speaker:

I think that's what you're feeling.

Speaker:

Courtney, you're saying I, I feel like I'm just going through the motions because

Speaker:

ask yourself this difficult question.

Speaker:

Are you using them wisely?

Speaker:

You know, are, are you making conscious spending decisions?

Speaker:

And this isn't, listen, I'm, I'm talking to myself right now.

Speaker:

Ask yourself, are you making conscious spending decisions?

Speaker:

Are, are you prioritizing needs over wants?

Speaker:

Are you avoiding those indulgences and, and that pursuit of a lavish lifestyle?

Speaker:

Hey, the world is lying to you.

Speaker:

You constantly are going to be pursuing and pursuing and pursuing, but at

Speaker:

some point you're gonna realize that pursuit is going to leave you empty.

Speaker:

I. And the other side of this is, are you practicing generous giving?

Speaker:

Are you being gracious in your giving?

Speaker:

And you know, you know, tithing is a foundational principle of giving.

Speaker:

That's part of it.

Speaker:

And I talk about that on the show all the time.

Speaker:

And you might be saying, wait a minute, Ralph, you're telling me to find purpose

Speaker:

and now you're going to giving, and I'm not asking you to give to me, I'm asking

Speaker:

you to give to charitable organizations.

Speaker:

And a lot of people will do that one time.

Speaker:

But see, charitable giving extends beyond this initial commitment.

Speaker:

It's, it's bigger than that.

Speaker:

Look at Proverbs 1917.

Speaker:

It tells us this, when I've read this again in the Bible, as I was preparing

Speaker:

for the show today, it, it really made me think, it says this, it says Whoever

Speaker:

is kind to the poor, lends to the Lord.

Speaker:

And he will reward them for what they have done.

Speaker:

See what?

Speaker:

Whoever is kind to the poor, think about that.

Speaker:

You're kind to the poor, you're lending directly to the Lord.

Speaker:

I, I think about that verse that says, whatever you did for the

Speaker:

least of mine, you did it for me.

Speaker:

And when you give generously, you're not just helping others.

Speaker:

Yeah, that's, that's part of it.

Speaker:

You are helping others, but bigger than that, the big purpose of

Speaker:

that, you're serving God and you're storing up treasures in heaven.

Speaker:

And finally, and I'm gonna get to some concrete things

Speaker:

you can do in just a moment.

Speaker:

Integrate purpose into your financial planning.

Speaker:

What is the purpose of why you're saving?

Speaker:

What is the purpose of your retirement?

Speaker:

I'm gonna talk about all these things in a minute.

Speaker:

Set those God honoring goals, because these goals should focus on making

Speaker:

a positive impact and bringing glory to God, not glory to you.

Speaker:

One of the best ways to do that is to follow biblical principles for

Speaker:

managing your finances responsibly.

Speaker:

Consider faith-based investment strategies that align with your values.

Speaker:

And remember this, and this is tough, you might not want to hear this, but

Speaker:

those financial decisions you make today, they have eternal significance.

Speaker:

So we have to really put that into context of what we're trying to accomplish today.

Speaker:

So let me now move on to some examples of God honoring financial goals.

Speaker:

These are things that can help you get past that feeling that you're just on

Speaker:

that treadmill, you're, you're just moving forward, but with no purpose.

Speaker:

One of the big things I'm gonna encourage you to do is look at debt freedom.

Speaker:

See here's, here's my goal for you.

Speaker:

Pay off all your consumer debt within the next three years.

Speaker:

Just set a goal.

Speaker:

In the next three years, I'm gonna pay off all my consumer debt.

Speaker:

And you might be saying, Ralph, what's the purpose of that?

Speaker:

Well, I'm gonna be very candid with you.

Speaker:

The purpose of that is to free yourself from the burden of debt, and that is going

Speaker:

to allow you to give more generously and live with greater financial peace if you

Speaker:

don't have that debt over your heads.

Speaker:

Listen, this has affected me.

Speaker:

It's affected many people I've worked with.

Speaker:

That constant feeling of that debt over your head, that shame of that debt,

Speaker:

Hey, that's what Anna was feeling.

Speaker:

She finally confided in me.

Speaker:

She said, Rob, I have a successful business, but man, I owe everybody.

Speaker:

I've got this credit card and that credit card.

Speaker:

And what is that doing?

Speaker:

It's robbing your peace and it's robbing your ability to be more generous.

Speaker:

Just look at the book of Proverbs chapter 22 7.

Speaker:

It says this, the rich rule over the poor.

Speaker:

I use this all the time on the show.

Speaker:

The rich rule over the poor and the borrower is slave to the lender.

Speaker:

See that that debt, and I'm not saying that there's all debt is bad.

Speaker:

Listen, if you listen to the show, you know I don't say that,

Speaker:

but debt will weigh you down.

Speaker:

The Bible says you become a slave to that.

Speaker:

So that's the first thing I'm gonna encourage you to do is get out of debt.

Speaker:

The second thing which goes right along with that is generous giving.

Speaker:

Here's my goal for you.

Speaker:

Increase your charitable giving by 10% each year.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

Wait a minute, 10%.

Speaker:

I give 1% now.

Speaker:

Great.

Speaker:

Then do one point 10% the next year.

Speaker:

The purpose of that is to support ministries, support charities, and support

Speaker:

causes that align with your values.

Speaker:

You know, a friend of mine once said, put your money where your mouth is,

Speaker:

put your money where your heart is.

Speaker:

And make a positive impact in the world that will make you feel like you are

Speaker:

breaking free and you're finding that freedom and it's not about that grind.

Speaker:

You're working hard because you're using that money to support charities.

Speaker:

You're using that money to support ministries, and you're using that money

Speaker:

to align with your values that are making a positive impact in the world.

Speaker:

Amen to that because look what the Bible says in Proverbs 1917.

Speaker:

It says, whoever is kind to the poor, lends to the Lord, and he will

Speaker:

reward them for what they have done.

Speaker:

I said that a couple times in the show today.

Speaker:

Make that positive impact on the world, and you will break that feeling that

Speaker:

what you're doing is just a daily grind.

Speaker:

Because yes, that part of it might be the daily grind, but man, you

Speaker:

are working for the Lord because you're doing something with that.

Speaker:

You're getting rid of debt.

Speaker:

You're supporting ministries.

Speaker:

You're supporting charities.

Speaker:

There's power in that.

Speaker:

Another thing I'm gonna encourage you to do, and you, you might

Speaker:

feel like I'm a broken record, but build that emergency fund.

Speaker:

Have a goal set, say set to save three to six months worth of

Speaker:

living expenses and emergency fund.

Speaker:

And everybody listen.

Speaker:

I get mail, I get emails from people that say, Ralph, you are crazy.

Speaker:

You say to me, I'm gonna save three to six months.

Speaker:

I can't even pay my bills now.

Speaker:

And I'll respond to those messages and I'll say, okay, I hear you and I feel,

Speaker:

and I pray for you, but here's the truth, you can start doing something.

Speaker:

You can save a dollar a day, you can save $5 a week.

Speaker:

You can save $10 every two weeks, whatever that looks like, but make your work have

Speaker:

purpose by looking to build that emergency fund, you be saying, okay, great.

Speaker:

What's the purpose of that, Ralph?

Speaker:

The purpose of an emergency fund is to be prepared for

Speaker:

unexpected financial challenges.

Speaker:

'cause look, if you're like everybody else in the world, you are going to

Speaker:

have unexpected financial challenges.

Speaker:

It's part of life, but think about the peace and the reduced

Speaker:

stress and dependence on debt and others that you will have when

Speaker:

you have that emergency fund.

Speaker:

Hear me on this?

Speaker:

This is something that you can use to find purpose in your work.

Speaker:

And again, this is biblical from Proverbs 2120.

Speaker:

And again, I use this on the show all the time because it keys

Speaker:

into what we're talking about.

Speaker:

It says the wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gum,

Speaker:

there's down looking, do me a fool.

Speaker:

Store it up, build that emergency fund.

Speaker:

I'm not calling you a fool, but think about what the Bible is saying there.

Speaker:

Why?

Speaker:

Because it recognizes that you will have more financial peace, you will have more

Speaker:

value in what you're doing if you have a goal of building that emergency fund.

Speaker:

So the, and listen, here's a beautiful thing about this.

Speaker:

I've talked about this on the show before.

Speaker:

Maybe that emergency fund doesn't even get by.

Speaker:

You get by, used by you.

Speaker:

Maybe somebody at church, maybe somebody it's a missionary, maybe

Speaker:

somebody in a charity you're involved with all of a sudden has a need.

Speaker:

Maybe someone's house burnt down.

Speaker:

Maybe their house was in a disaster or they've had a medical issue.

Speaker:

See, God might have you building that emergency fund, not for your

Speaker:

emergency, but for somebody else, and think about how wonderful it will be.

Speaker:

When you get that phone call or you're in that small group and, and

Speaker:

somebody's need is brought to light and you can think, you know what?

Speaker:

I've built this emergency fund, and the whole time I was doing it,

Speaker:

I thought God was wanting me to do it for me, but it wasn't about me.

Speaker:

And then think about what you're doing.

Speaker:

You're, you're helping the least of these.

Speaker:

Now another concrete you think you can do is, is start thinking

Speaker:

about retirement planning.

Speaker:

The goal here is to contribute consistently to a retirement account.

Speaker:

And aim to replace at least 80% of your pre-retirement income.

Speaker:

You say, whoa, 80%.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Here's a truth bomb.

Speaker:

When I work with tax clients and accounting clients, here's a,

Speaker:

here's a very simple truth you are going to need money to live on.

Speaker:

You might be saying, Ralph, that sounds like it's sort of counterintuitive

Speaker:

to what you're talking about, but it's not because here's the purpose.

Speaker:

You've got to ensure financial stability in your later years.

Speaker:

And you might be saying, okay, Ralph, you got me so far, but explain that to

Speaker:

me because that stability is going to allow you to continue to serve God and

Speaker:

others without that financial worry.

Speaker:

You don't know how many people I work with on a daily basis who have

Speaker:

built that retirement fund, who have put aside that money for retirement.

Speaker:

And guess what they can do now?

Speaker:

they can sow that in other ministries.

Speaker:

I got many people that I know that are doing mission trips.

Speaker:

Why?

Speaker:

Because they plan for retirement.

Speaker:

They put that money aside.

Speaker:

And again, maybe it wasn't about them at the time.

Speaker:

Maybe it felt like it was at the time, but it wasn't the end.

Speaker:

Look at Proverbs six, six through eight.

Speaker:

It says, go to the ant.

Speaker:

You sluggard consider its ways and be wise.

Speaker:

It has no commander, no overseer or ruler yet it stores its provision in

Speaker:

summer and gathers its food at harvest.

Speaker:

See if you wanna make purpose with your work, then build that retirement, set

Speaker:

aside for the future so that you can then share those resources with others.

Speaker:

Another thing I'm gonna encourage you to do, and I can't stress this enough,

Speaker:

whether you're a parent or a grandparent is safe for your children's education or

Speaker:

maybe for your own continuing education.

Speaker:

I have many clients and friends who have decided to go back to

Speaker:

school and to refine their skills.

Speaker:

And the purpose here is pretty clear.

Speaker:

It's to invest in knowledge and skills because why not?

Speaker:

So you can make more money.

Speaker:

Yeah, you probably will be able to.

Speaker:

But maybe you'll learn a skill where you can serve others.

Speaker:

I talked about this on the show the other day.

Speaker:

One of my clients actually went back.

Speaker:

It was a life goal to learn Spanish, and now what she's doing, she's doing

Speaker:

missionary work in countries that don't speak English, and she knows

Speaker:

Spanish enough that she can help.

Speaker:

I. So save for that education, whether it be your children or your grandchildren.

Speaker:

May you know, I've got a lot of clients that are helping out their

Speaker:

grandchildren with getting an education that's broken free of this terrible

Speaker:

public school system we have, and don't even let me get started on that.

Speaker:

Teaching all kinds of nonsense.

Speaker:

But these grandparents are able to step up and help the parents pay for that,

Speaker:

that private education where they're getting a Christian faith-based education.

Speaker:

And this comes right from the book of Proverbs, chapter nine, verse nine.

Speaker:

It says, instruct the wise and they will be wiser, still teach the righteous

Speaker:

and they will add to their learning.

Speaker:

So invest in that education for others and for yourself.

Speaker:

Now if you happen to be self-employed,

Speaker:

another reason for that daily grinder or working hard is a goal

Speaker:

to grow your business, to create jobs and support your community.

Speaker:

You know, the purpose of this is to use your business as a platform to

Speaker:

bless others and spread God's love.

Speaker:

You might say, Ralph, that's great.

Speaker:

I'm gonna get real profitable for myself.

Speaker:

But how does that help others?

Speaker:

Well, think about it for a second.

Speaker:

Maybe you can employ somebody else.

Speaker:

You can lift up somebody else with the hard work that you're

Speaker:

putting into your business.

Speaker:

So use that business as a platform to bless others, invest in your

Speaker:

business, grow your business, ' cause you are going to be able to use

Speaker:

that business to spread God love.

Speaker:

And here's the biblical principle here comes right from Proverbs 20 S 17.

Speaker:

It says, as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Speaker:

Another thing you can do with your money is to support missions.

Speaker:

If you're looking to find purpose in what you're doing, save and

Speaker:

give specifically to support missionaries or mission projects.

Speaker:

Listen, my church here in Middletown, Middletown Baptist Church, we support

Speaker:

a ton of missionaries, and when I first started going to church,

Speaker:

I didn't really understand it.

Speaker:

It didn't make any sense to me.

Speaker:

I was like, well, why are we giving to these missionaries?

Speaker:

Why don't we use that money here in our church?

Speaker:

And a wise person said to me, he says, Ralph, the purpose of this is to help

Speaker:

spread the gospel and support those who are called to serve in the mission field.

Speaker:

that resonated with me.

Speaker:

It made sense to me.

Speaker:

So maybe you, you take that money that you're earning with the daily grind

Speaker:

and you see that into the mission field because there are people out

Speaker:

there on the front end doing this missionary work in places that you

Speaker:

don't even want to think about going to.

Speaker:

They're sharing that message of hope.

Speaker:

They're sharing that message of Christ with people who

Speaker:

may not have ever gotten it.

Speaker:

And see this comes from the, from the Bible as well.

Speaker:

It says, how then can they call on the one they have not believed in,

Speaker:

and how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?

Speaker:

And how can they hear without someone preaching it to them?

Speaker:

And how can anyone preach unless they are sent as it is written?

Speaker:

How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news?

Speaker:

It's from my favorite book of the Bible, the book of Romans,

Speaker:

chapter 10 verses 14 and 15.

Speaker:

You know, how can they believe if they haven't heard it?

Speaker:

And then how can they hear without somebody preaching to them?

Speaker:

And that is, I'm gonna encourage you today, if you're not supporting

Speaker:

missionaries, if your church isn't supporting missionaries.

Speaker:

Do that.

Speaker:

Support missionaries.

Speaker:

Maybe find one, understand where they're working.

Speaker:

There are a ton of people, my aunt and uncle, were missionaries way back.

Speaker:

They are impacting people.

Speaker:

Another thing you can do is look at community investment.

Speaker:

Here's the goal.

Speaker:

Invest in local community projects or initiatives that align with your values.

Speaker:

So with that money that you're earning, with that, with that, what feels

Speaker:

like a grind, the purpose can be to improve the lives of those around you.

Speaker:

And create a positive impact in your community.

Speaker:

And look at the book of Hebrews chapter 10, verse 24.

Speaker:

It says this, and let us consider how we may spur one another

Speaker:

on toward love and good deeds.

Speaker:

See, that's one of the benefits of using that money.

Speaker:

If you're working for the Lord and you're being blessed in that, use that money to

Speaker:

improve the lives of those around you.

Speaker:

Create that positive impact in your community.

Speaker:

Here's another thing you can consider, and that's what I'll call Family Legacy.

Speaker:

The goal here is to establish a, A Family Legacy fund to pass on financial

Speaker:

blessings to future generations.

Speaker:

That's what I'm talking about when I talk about building that retirement,

Speaker:

building that emergency fund with the purpose of ensuring that your family's

Speaker:

financial resources are used to continue God's work and bless others.

Speaker:

I've talked about this on this show, many of my clients who have inherited money.

Speaker:

They've taken that money and they've done things with it to

Speaker:

continue to, to bless God's work.

Speaker:

I know I have clients that have set up scholarship funds.

Speaker:

They set up Bible studies in somebody's name.

Speaker:

Look what the book of Proverbs 1322 says.

Speaker:

It says A good person leaves an inheritance for their children's

Speaker:

children, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous.

Speaker:

And I don't wanna forget to mention church support.

Speaker:

Hey, the goal could be to increase your tithe.

Speaker:

I talked about that a couple times, and increase that offering to your

Speaker:

local church by a certain percentage.

Speaker:

Each year, maybe you say, look, I'm gonna work that extra hour.

Speaker:

I'm gonna work this extra five hours this week.

Speaker:

It's not about the grind.

Speaker:

It's because I'm gonna be able to increase what I'm giving to my church with the

Speaker:

purpose of supporting the ministry.

Speaker:

And their outreach efforts of your local church.

Speaker:

It doesn't have to be those who are spreading the gospel all over the world.

Speaker:

It can be those who are spreading the gospel in your town, in your community,

Speaker:

in your state, in your county, whatever.

Speaker:

Doesn't matter to me.

Speaker:

Helping spread the gospel and serve the community.

Speaker:

This is right from the Bible as well.

Speaker:

It says in the book of Malachi, chapter three, verse 10, it says, bring the

Speaker:

whole tithe into the storehouse.

Speaker:

That there may be food in this house.

Speaker:

Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and I love this part of it and think

Speaker:

about how strong this is and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven

Speaker:

and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

Speaker:

And see that's the key.

Speaker:

Now you might be, at this point you're saying, Ralph,

Speaker:

I, I hear what you're saying.

Speaker:

I, I appreciate all you're saying, but.

Speaker:

Man, I, I'm, I'm had a hard time getting past this and see.

Speaker:

Courtney, one of the biggest obstacles defining purpose in your paycheck are

Speaker:

these limiting beliefs about money.

Speaker:

So many people I've worked with, and Courtney, when I read your message,

Speaker:

this is exactly what you're facing.

Speaker:

Who's limiting beliefs about money and see these beliefs can

Speaker:

hold you back from achieving financial freedom and fulfillment.

Speaker:

And I just want to talk about a few of those and how to overcome them.

Speaker:

There's a belief that money is the root of all evil.

Speaker:

I've heard this so many times.

Speaker:

I hear it all the time, and if you listen to my show, you know, I go against this.

Speaker:

And the truth is this money itself is not evil.

Speaker:

It's just not.

Speaker:

It's the love of money.

Speaker:

That can lead to trouble.

Speaker:

But see, money's a tool and it can be used for good or evil.

Speaker:

We talked about several things today that you can use your money

Speaker:

to do good, but yes, it can be evil.

Speaker:

It just depends on how you handle it.

Speaker:

So reframe your perspective on money.

Speaker:

See it as a resources that God has entrusted to you to

Speaker:

do good and bring him glory.

Speaker:

That's the things I talked about.

Speaker:

That's that increasing your community, giving given to missionaries.

Speaker:

Do good with that tool.

Speaker:

That is money.

Speaker:

Here's another belief that, man, I just wanna shatter today.

Speaker:

I hear this constantly and it drives me crazy when people say this,

Speaker:

it says, I'm not good with money.

Speaker:

Yeah, you might not be good, but here's a truth.

Speaker:

Bomb financial management is a learned skill.

Speaker:

It's something you can learn and see.

Speaker:

With the right education and practice, and hear me on this, anyone can

Speaker:

become proficient in handling money.

Speaker:

Commit to learning about financial management.

Speaker:

Read books, attend workshops.

Speaker:

Listen to this podcast, listen to other podcasts, and seek guidance

Speaker:

from financial advisors because you can overcome this limiting belief.

Speaker:

Here's another one, and I try to break this down on the show all the time, and

Speaker:

it says this, I can't afford to give.

Speaker:

And man, lemme just tell you, giving is not just about the amount.

Speaker:

It's, it's so much bigger than that.

Speaker:

It's about your heart.

Speaker:

It's what's in your heart.

Speaker:

See?

Speaker:

'cause God doesn't look at the amount you.

Speaker:

You're not gonna out give God.

Speaker:

See, God looks at the intention behind your giving, not the size of the gift.

Speaker:

He could care less how big that present is.

Speaker:

It's the intention behind it.

Speaker:

So maybe you don't have the financial resource.

Speaker:

I've talked about this on the show many times.

Speaker:

Start with small acts of generosity.

Speaker:

Because here is the truth.

Speaker:

Even a little thing can make a huge difference and it will

Speaker:

help you develop that habit of giving and see once you start.

Speaker:

I remember as a kid, I thought Christmas was great, not about the gifts, and

Speaker:

I was kind of a weird guy, I guess.

Speaker:

But for me, Christmas is all about what I was giving.

Speaker:

'cause I like to see the look on people's faces.

Speaker:

I, I like to see the enjoyment.

Speaker:

Now, I, I guess many times, some of the stuff my sister bought, my mom, she kind

Speaker:

of do, Hey, what in the world was that?

Speaker:

But my heart was in the right place.

Speaker:

Here's another limiting belief.

Speaker:

I hear this one all the time.

Speaker:

I'll never be able to save enough.

Speaker:

The truth is this saving small, consistent amounts add up over time.

Speaker:

Like I said, it can be a dollar a day, it can be $5 a week.

Speaker:

So even if it seems like you can't save much, every little bit helps, it

Speaker:

helps you build that emergency fund.

Speaker:

And here's my action plan for that.

Speaker:

Create a savings plan and stick to it.

Speaker:

Even like I said, if it's a dollar a day, avoid that coffee on the way to work or

Speaker:

make a decision to not eat out one day a week or whatever that looks like for you.

Speaker:

Create that savings plan and stick to it, build that momentum, and build that habit.

Speaker:

One of the great ways to do that is automate your savings.

Speaker:

To make it easier to stay consistent and Courtney overcome these

Speaker:

limiting beliefs is essential.

Speaker:

You gotta get past these to transforming your paycheck into purpose.

Speaker:

Remember this, as I've said a couple times now, your worth is not

Speaker:

defined by your financial situation.

Speaker:

But by your identity as a child of God, trust in his provision and take action

Speaker:

to align your finances with your faith.

Speaker:

today, but this was such a vital topic to talk about because this.

Speaker:

Email.

Speaker:

This letter that I got from Courtney, man, it, it hit with me and I said,

Speaker:

there are so many people that are feeling the same way, Courtney.

Speaker:

So I'm gonna encourage you right now, if you haven't shared the show,

Speaker:

share the show with somebody else.

Speaker:

But let's get to our reflection questions.

Speaker:

And here's the first one.

Speaker:

What are your unique skills and talents?

Speaker:

See, start there.

Speaker:

And how can you make to use them to make a positive impact and serve others?

Speaker:

Second one.

Speaker:

In what specific ways can you align your current work with your

Speaker:

deeply held faith and values?

Speaker:

That's what we talked about.

Speaker:

How can you practice generous giving and, and make a more significant

Speaker:

impact on the lives of others?

Speaker:

And finally, study those limiting beliefs.

Speaker:

What limiting beliefs about money do you hold and how can

Speaker:

you begin to overcome them?

Speaker:

So let's talk about our key takeaways before we close out in prayer today.

Speaker:

Here's my key takeaways.

Speaker:

Identify your unique skills and talents and use them to serve others.

Speaker:

Align your work with your Christian values, striving

Speaker:

for excellence and integrity.

Speaker:

As we talked about, steward your finances with purpose by making conscious spending

Speaker:

decisions and practice generous giving.

Speaker:

Set those God honoring financial goals and follow biblical principles for

Speaker:

managing your finances responsibly.

Speaker:

And last but not least, focus on overcoming those limiting beliefs

Speaker:

about money by reframing your perspective and taking action.

Speaker:

Let's close with a prayer.

Speaker:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the goodness and grace in our lives.

Speaker:

Thank you for abiding us with resources that we need to live, abundant lives

Speaker:

and make a difference in the world.

Speaker:

Lord, we ask for your wisdom and guidance as we navigate our financial journeys.

Speaker:

Help us to overcome any shame or limiting beliefs we have about money,

Speaker:

and give us the courage to take action and align our finances with your will.

Speaker:

Help us to be good stewards of the resources you've entrusted to us.

Speaker:

Guide us as we set God honoring financial goals.

Speaker:

And make conscious spending decisions.

Speaker:

Lord, we ask that you bless our efforts to find purpose in our paychecks.

Speaker:

Help us to use our unique skills and talents to serve others

Speaker:

and bring glory to your name.

Speaker:

In Jesus' name we pray this.

Speaker:

Amen.

Speaker:

Now, tomorrow we're discussing a sensitive topic, and this

Speaker:

one is going to be a rough one.

Speaker:

And this is this.

Speaker:

Somebody asked me this question, how do I save my mom from my dad's $200,000

Speaker:

Iris nightmare, and should I even try?

Speaker:

Now, lemme just tell you right now, I've been preparing for that episode

Speaker:

and it's gonna be a powerful one.

Speaker:

So make sure you join me again tomorrow and today.

Speaker:

I just wanna say thank you for your time and support in the show.

Speaker:

I went a little longer today, but there was a lot that I wanted to cover.

Speaker:

Remember this.

Speaker:

My passion is to help you achieve financial success.

Speaker:

I wanna see you live out your dreams and I wanna see you grow in your faith.

Speaker:

And I know together we can master your finances from a Christian perspective.

Speaker:

So as I always end the show, stay financially savvy out there

Speaker:

and God bless you abundantly.
