Blakely Ramsey

Welcome to the elevated edit podcast.

Blakely Ramsey

I'm your host, Blakely Ramsey.

Blakely Ramsey

And I just wanted to stop and say how thankful I am for everyone who is listening, everyone who listens every week, everyone who has left a review, who sends me messages about the podcast.

Blakely Ramsey

It genuinely does mean so much.

Blakely Ramsey

I was talking to another podcaster, and he's the one that brought it up, and I couldn't remember the exact stats, so I went back to.

Blakely Ramsey

I googled it, and 90% of podcasts don't make it past the third episode, and we are at episode eleven.

Blakely Ramsey

So it's going very well.

Blakely Ramsey

I love that y'all are getting so much out of the podcast.

Blakely Ramsey

It just.

Blakely Ramsey

It makes me feel really good to connect with y'all on that level and on that subject.

Blakely Ramsey

Today we're going to talk about something that is a little bit vulnerable for me.

Blakely Ramsey

But I felt like it was just like, so on point with where I am in this season and what my life currently looks like.

Blakely Ramsey

And today we're going to talk about embracing fear and moving forward despite it.

Blakely Ramsey

I think for me, for the longest time, I had all these great ideas and all of these things that I wanted to do.

Blakely Ramsey

And I would tell myself, oh, well, when I have time, or oh, well, when I look like this, or oh, well, when we get a new house, or when we get a.

Blakely Ramsey

When I get a new car, whatever it was.

Blakely Ramsey

And what I have realized this year is that all of those were excuses because I was scared.

Blakely Ramsey

Scared for multiple reasons, which we're going to talk about today.

Blakely Ramsey

And then we're also going to talk about something that I have been doing to kind of not completely make that fear go away, but definitely eliminate it a little bit.

Blakely Ramsey

So, to start, I have, like I said, I've done a lot of work on myself this year.

Blakely Ramsey

A lot of personal development, all of the things.

Blakely Ramsey

And one thing I have realized about myself, and I think a lot of you will be able to resonate with this, is I am not good at looking stupid or looking like I don't know what I'm talking about.

Blakely Ramsey

I'm not one that's going to just do it anyway.

Blakely Ramsey

And pretend like I know what I'm doing.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, I actually want to do things the right way.

Blakely Ramsey

And that usually, like, puts a wallet for me and I go, well, I'm just not even going to try that because I don't know 100% how to do it and I don't want to look stupid.

Blakely Ramsey

I'm just not even going to try it.

Blakely Ramsey

And I've realized that about myself.

Blakely Ramsey

I don't think I had the awareness to understand that that was the issue before, but I definitely see it now, and I see how I have been self sabotaging through that mindset.

Blakely Ramsey

So I've been trying to just here lately, like, remind myself that if I don't do it and look stupid and fail and mess up, like, I'm never going to get any better, I'm never going to improve, I'm never going to go to that next step.

Blakely Ramsey

I'm always going to stay right where I'm at to.

Blakely Ramsey

And so I've had to, it's not been easy, but I've had to just kind of, like, swallow my pride a couple times here lately and just sit in the embarrassment and the discomfort of looking like a beginner and looking like I don't know what I'm doing.

Blakely Ramsey

And I'm just keep reminding myself that I'm on a bigger mission and I have, honestly too much to do right now to sit around and be scared to look foolish because, and that kind of goes to my next point.

Blakely Ramsey

I am trying to learn better how to deal with judgment.

Blakely Ramsey

I think for me, that is a huge fear of putting myself out there, is like, well, what are other people going to think?

Blakely Ramsey

Are they going to make fun of me?

Blakely Ramsey

Are they going to screenshot this and send it to everybody and their mama.

Blakely Ramsey

And one thing I'm realizing is that who freaking cares?

Blakely Ramsey

Like, people are going to talk about you, or maybe they don't talk about you.

Blakely Ramsey

I feel like that might be a very small town problem, but people talk about you whether you're doing real, like, people are going to talk about you whether you're doing the thing that you want to do or you're doing something that somebody else expects you to do.

Blakely Ramsey

So, like, you might as well do the thing that you want to do, because if they're going to talk about you, you might as well be happy through it.

Blakely Ramsey

And so that's what I've really tried to lean into in this season of, like, trying new things and putting myself out there and allowing the possibility for people to, like, really make fun of me and be like, who does she think that she is?

Blakely Ramsey

And one thing that has definitely helped me with working through that fear is remembering that I don't want to take advice from people in the cheat seats.

Blakely Ramsey

And look, when I say cheap seats, I do not mean that is not like an income statement.

Blakely Ramsey

That is a mindset statement.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, I do not want to take advice from people who aren't going where I want to go, aren't going where they want to go, are stuck in life, are stagnant in life, are only judging other people because they're projecting their own insecurities, and they're judging other people because they want to try new things, too.

Blakely Ramsey

And they're too scared to get off the couch and do it.

Blakely Ramsey

So instead, they sit around and judge everyone else.

Blakely Ramsey

Oh, did I just get personal?

Blakely Ramsey

Oh, goodness.

Blakely Ramsey

I just.

Blakely Ramsey

I have.

Blakely Ramsey

I'm sitting in the discomfort right now.

Blakely Ramsey

And that is one thing that I'm realizing is, like, I don't care what those people think about me because I have been in rooms lately with people who are way farther ahead of me.

Blakely Ramsey

And not just in a financial way, but, like, mentally, they're very stable.

Blakely Ramsey

They've got a very wonderful home life balance, and I wouldn't even say balance.

Blakely Ramsey

They put their family a major priority above their finances.

Blakely Ramsey

And to me, that is more along the lines of where I'm wanting my life to go versus, like, make a ton of money.

Blakely Ramsey

Sorry, I got off on a tangent.

Blakely Ramsey

Where was I going with that?

Blakely Ramsey

Um, oh, and what I've learned from being in the room with those people is that they are not going to put you down.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, if you are trying and putting yourself out there, the people who are already where you want to go, they're not going to turn around and make fun of you.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, they're going to turn around and give you a hand up.

Blakely Ramsey

They're going to turn around and give you a nice word.

Blakely Ramsey

They're going to give you a piece of advice.

Blakely Ramsey

The only people that are going to make fun of you are the people that are still behind you.

Blakely Ramsey

Um, so if you are, like, scared of judgment, worried that people are going to talk about you, because they probably are, just think about that.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, do you want to take advice from people who you don't look up to?

Blakely Ramsey

Do you want people who you don't look up to to be the reason that you don't accomplish everything you want to accomplish?

Blakely Ramsey

At this point in my life, the answer is, sorry, I don't have time for that.

Blakely Ramsey

Dang, I'm spicy tonight.

Blakely Ramsey

Look, I don't want to make all of this sound like it's super easy.

Blakely Ramsey

One day you're just going to wake up and all of a sudden you're going to have all of these revelations.

Blakely Ramsey

Growth hurts and it hurts because you don't realize it's happening.

Blakely Ramsey

You don't realize it's happening or you think, okay, wow, I just came through a season of growth.

Blakely Ramsey

Then you think you're going to have a little while in between, and then all of a sudden it's like, wait, I just got out of a growth season.

Blakely Ramsey

Why am I in another one?

Blakely Ramsey

And for the longest, I think that I was fearful of putting myself out there and changing and doing things differently because I didn't trust myself to pick myself back up if things didn't go well.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, I would be like, okay, you know, if this and this and this happens, like, I'm really gonna be so emotionally distraught.

Blakely Ramsey

And here lately, I have had to put myself out there to the point of failing at a lot of things because I'm throwing so many things out at the wall and just seeing what sticks.

Blakely Ramsey

And that has definitely, like, kind of helped me process that a little bit, but the growth still hurts.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, setting in that growth is not comfortable.

Blakely Ramsey

I am just learning to, when I'm in it, give myself a moment of self awareness and be like, okay, you know where you're going.

Blakely Ramsey

You know what you need to do to get there.

Blakely Ramsey

This is just par for the course.

Blakely Ramsey

And I'm not saying it's going to make it easier, but it is going to make it simpler.

Blakely Ramsey

And I love, like, the difference between those two words because I think people confuse simple and easy, and they are definitely two completely different words.

Blakely Ramsey

So I'm trying to simplify everything.

Blakely Ramsey

And yeah, like I said, this, this change process, this growth process has not been comfortable, but I have been focusing on who I want to become.

Blakely Ramsey

And that has helped a lot to kind of, like, get through the fear and get over the overwhelm of, okay, I have a goal.

Blakely Ramsey

This is what I need to get to.

Blakely Ramsey

Instead of that, I've been trying to pull myself back and go, okay, who do I need to be to get to the point that person in this season is someone who gets up super early and gets her workout in.

Blakely Ramsey

And, you know, I start work.

Blakely Ramsey

I've been working pretty early to pretty late the last couple of weeks because I'm in a season of I've got to push a little bit, I've got to get the rocket ship out of the atmosphere.

Blakely Ramsey

I think there's a.

Blakely Ramsey

I can't remember the exact stat, but I think it takes 90% of a rocket ship's fuel just for it to take off.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, it has to use all of its energy at the beginning to kind of break the atmosphere, and then the rest of the time it goes off of that other 10%.

Blakely Ramsey

And I feel like most of us are the same way.

Blakely Ramsey

We're like, we have to focus on that 90%, the fuel to, like, get us out of the atmosphere.

Blakely Ramsey

And then once we get out of that spot, we can coast a little bit.

Blakely Ramsey

I think I just mixed those analogies up.

Blakely Ramsey

I'm so sorry.

Blakely Ramsey

I was going one direction, and then I took a fork in the road and we went a completely different direction.

Blakely Ramsey

But what I was saying was that has helped me overcome some of my overwhelm because I'm like, okay, I need to focus on the little, teeny, tiny steps that I need to take every day to push myself through, and then I can coast on the rest of it.

Blakely Ramsey

Because, yeah, in the past, I would, like, get so focused on the goal.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, I'd be like, okay, I want to make x amount of money, and I would focus on the goal.

Blakely Ramsey

Focus on the goal.

Blakely Ramsey

And it was so big that it would freak me out.

Blakely Ramsey

So I've been kind of pulling back and focusing on the, like, micro habits along the way, and it's really helped.

Blakely Ramsey

I've also been doing a lot of pivoting.

Blakely Ramsey

I've always been good at that.

Blakely Ramsey

But I feel like here lately, I'm really leaning into it because, like I said, I am throwing so many things out the wall and seeing what sticks.

Blakely Ramsey

A lot of things haven't stuck, and a lot of them I have just been like, okay, that's not going to work.

Blakely Ramsey

But other things, I'm like, wait a minute.

Blakely Ramsey

It didn't work the way I thought, but what if we tweaked it and it worked this way or that way?

Blakely Ramsey

And so that is another thing that I've really been just kind of, like, leaning into and letting myself sit in and enjoy.

Blakely Ramsey

I have also.

Blakely Ramsey

This last one is the hardest for me.

Blakely Ramsey

It shouldn't be as hard as it's been, but it has been.

Blakely Ramsey

I have been asking other people for help.

Blakely Ramsey

That is definitely a foreign concept to me, and it has not been fun.

Blakely Ramsey

I'm not enjoying it.

Blakely Ramsey

I don't enjoy asking for help, but I have been asking for help, and it has not been all that bad.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, really not bad at all.

Blakely Ramsey

And maybe I've just been asking, like, the right people but when I ask for something, it's usually just met with a yes.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, in my mind, I automatically go to the worst case scenario.

Blakely Ramsey

Of course, I feel like we all do that.

Blakely Ramsey

I have been trying here lately to.

Blakely Ramsey

When I think of a worst case scenario, I also think of the best case scenario.

Blakely Ramsey

And that's kind of balanced my mindset a little bit.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, I'm like, okay, the worst case scenario definitely could happen, but the best case scenario could also happen, and that's pretty amazing, too.

Blakely Ramsey

So anyway, back to me asking for help, and it's not even on major crazy stuff, but just like, if I have a question about something and I know somebody else knows the answer to it, I just ask them.

Blakely Ramsey

Instead of me spending an hour researching, trying to figure it out, I'll ask a simple favor.

Blakely Ramsey

If I know somebody's running to do something, I'm like, hey, can you run this errand for me?

Blakely Ramsey

People say yes.

Blakely Ramsey

And before I just, I don't know, like, I would put all this stuff on my plate because I didn't want to, quote unquote, bother people because I was scared that they were going to judge me or scared of this or scared of that.

Blakely Ramsey

And so that's kind of like, why it goes.

Blakely Ramsey

All goes back to the fear.

Blakely Ramsey

And overcoming fear is so complex because there are literally so many layers.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, I could talk about this for days because there's so many different parts to that.

Blakely Ramsey

But that is the thing that I have been doing lately to kind of try and overcome all of this is thinking of that best case scenario.

Blakely Ramsey

What does that look like?

Blakely Ramsey

And for me, at least since I've started this, I notice that when I think about the best case scenario, I start to assume that's what's going to happen.

Blakely Ramsey

And subliminally I start making choices that lead me towards the best case scenario versus the worst case.

Blakely Ramsey

And it's like, so crazy because you don't even realize that you're doing it.

Blakely Ramsey

But before, you know, I would be like, okay, the worst case scenario is going to happen.

Blakely Ramsey

This tree is going to fall on me.

Blakely Ramsey

And so I would, like, be fearful, and I'd be looking around scared, waiting for somebody to come in with a chainsaw and cut a tree down.

Blakely Ramsey

That might sound like an extreme scenario, but, like, that would be, like a worst case scenario place that my mind would go to now.

Blakely Ramsey

I'm like, wow, what if I walk over there and that tree has an apple on it?

Blakely Ramsey

You know, like the, the initial tree is still there.

Blakely Ramsey

Wow, I really hope that you'll understand this example, because, oh, goodness.

Blakely Ramsey

Oh, I am so tired.

Blakely Ramsey

Working on this course has got my brain, like, literally mush.

Blakely Ramsey

So I do apologize, because this one's gonna be.

Blakely Ramsey

This one's gonna be one of those scattered episodes.

Blakely Ramsey

But when the whole point of my example was that when I focus on the positive, positive happens, it was it.

Blakely Ramsey

I really did.

Blakely Ramsey

I had a great ending.

Blakely Ramsey

I just kind of lost myself in the middle, as you can hear.

Blakely Ramsey

And if you're watching on YouTube, you can see, because I sound terrible.

Blakely Ramsey

I'm exhausted all the things.

Blakely Ramsey

But I have poured.

Blakely Ramsey

Oh, my gosh, I've poured so much into this course.

Blakely Ramsey

The modules are great.

Blakely Ramsey

The action lists are great.

Blakely Ramsey

I created a private podcast so you can listen to your modules on the go.

Blakely Ramsey

I've created all kinds of wonderful, amazing resources that go in the course.

Blakely Ramsey

I should probably be charging a little bit more for the course than I am, but like I.

Blakely Ramsey

I said in last week's episode, I want to make sure that what I put out is 100% before I guess, quote unquote, charge my worth.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, this one's kind of like my test run.

Blakely Ramsey

And so I do.

Blakely Ramsey

I want to see how it works before, you know, we go to the big course.

Blakely Ramsey

And I'm also going to give my podcast listeners a discount.

Blakely Ramsey

So on top of all of the other value that you'll have in the course, you can use the code elevate for 20% off.

Blakely Ramsey

That is.

Blakely Ramsey

Code elevate for 20% off at checkout.

Blakely Ramsey

Like I said, I have poured all of my, literally all of my time and energy the last several weeks into this course.

Blakely Ramsey

It is one of the proudest things that I have ever done.

Blakely Ramsey

It is wonderful.

Blakely Ramsey

I love it.

Blakely Ramsey

It's so valuable.

Blakely Ramsey

I wish I had had it two or three years ago when I.

Blakely Ramsey

I've been, you know, studying branding and marketing for about nine years, but I really dove in about three years ago, and I wish I'd had this course because it is not, like, super technical.

Blakely Ramsey

I feel like I've taken so many courses, and it's like, oh, this is how you do this.

Blakely Ramsey

This is how you make that.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, this course gets very deep.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, it really makes you think about things.

Blakely Ramsey

And that is where I feel like a lot of the growth comes from and a lot of the implementation and the whole course, I am, like, breaking it down for you and telling you how to execute it instead of overwhelming you.

Blakely Ramsey

And it's so good.

Blakely Ramsey

I can't wait for it to hear y'all's feedback after y'all purchase it, but okay friends, I have got to go get some sleep.

Blakely Ramsey

I've got to go rest my voice because I need to be back in the game 100% tomorrow because I got a busy day.

Blakely Ramsey

So thank y'all so much for joining me in this episode and I will see you in the next one.

Blakely Ramsey
