Blakely RamseyWelcome to the elevated edit podcast.
Blakely RamseyI'm your host, Blakely Ramsey.
Blakely RamseyAnd I just wanted to stop and say how thankful I am for everyone who is listening, everyone who listens every week, everyone who has left a review, who sends me messages about the podcast.
Blakely RamseyIt genuinely does mean so much.
Blakely RamseyI was talking to another podcaster, and he's the one that brought it up, and I couldn't remember the exact stats, so I went back to.
Blakely RamseyI googled it, and 90% of podcasts don't make it past the third episode, and we are at episode eleven.
Blakely RamseySo it's going very well.
Blakely RamseyI love that y'all are getting so much out of the podcast.
Blakely RamseyIt just.
Blakely RamseyIt makes me feel really good to connect with y'all on that level and on that subject.
Blakely RamseyToday we're going to talk about something that is a little bit vulnerable for me.
Blakely RamseyBut I felt like it was just like, so on point with where I am in this season and what my life currently looks like.
Blakely RamseyAnd today we're going to talk about embracing fear and moving forward despite it.
Blakely RamseyI think for me, for the longest time, I had all these great ideas and all of these things that I wanted to do.
Blakely RamseyAnd I would tell myself, oh, well, when I have time, or oh, well, when I look like this, or oh, well, when we get a new house, or when we get a.
Blakely RamseyWhen I get a new car, whatever it was.
Blakely RamseyAnd what I have realized this year is that all of those were excuses because I was scared.
Blakely RamseyScared for multiple reasons, which we're going to talk about today.
Blakely RamseyAnd then we're also going to talk about something that I have been doing to kind of not completely make that fear go away, but definitely eliminate it a little bit.
Blakely RamseySo, to start, I have, like I said, I've done a lot of work on myself this year.
Blakely RamseyA lot of personal development, all of the things.
Blakely RamseyAnd one thing I have realized about myself, and I think a lot of you will be able to resonate with this, is I am not good at looking stupid or looking like I don't know what I'm talking about.
Blakely RamseyI'm not one that's going to just do it anyway.
Blakely RamseyAnd pretend like I know what I'm doing.
Blakely RamseyLike, I actually want to do things the right way.
Blakely RamseyAnd that usually, like, puts a wallet for me and I go, well, I'm just not even going to try that because I don't know 100% how to do it and I don't want to look stupid.
Blakely RamseyI'm just not even going to try it.
Blakely RamseyAnd I've realized that about myself.
Blakely RamseyI don't think I had the awareness to understand that that was the issue before, but I definitely see it now, and I see how I have been self sabotaging through that mindset.
Blakely RamseySo I've been trying to just here lately, like, remind myself that if I don't do it and look stupid and fail and mess up, like, I'm never going to get any better, I'm never going to improve, I'm never going to go to that next step.
Blakely RamseyI'm always going to stay right where I'm at to.
Blakely RamseyAnd so I've had to, it's not been easy, but I've had to just kind of, like, swallow my pride a couple times here lately and just sit in the embarrassment and the discomfort of looking like a beginner and looking like I don't know what I'm doing.
Blakely RamseyAnd I'm just keep reminding myself that I'm on a bigger mission and I have, honestly too much to do right now to sit around and be scared to look foolish because, and that kind of goes to my next point.
Blakely RamseyI am trying to learn better how to deal with judgment.
Blakely RamseyI think for me, that is a huge fear of putting myself out there, is like, well, what are other people going to think?
Blakely RamseyAre they going to make fun of me?
Blakely RamseyAre they going to screenshot this and send it to everybody and their mama.
Blakely RamseyAnd one thing I'm realizing is that who freaking cares?
Blakely RamseyLike, people are going to talk about you, or maybe they don't talk about you.
Blakely RamseyI feel like that might be a very small town problem, but people talk about you whether you're doing real, like, people are going to talk about you whether you're doing the thing that you want to do or you're doing something that somebody else expects you to do.
Blakely RamseySo, like, you might as well do the thing that you want to do, because if they're going to talk about you, you might as well be happy through it.
Blakely RamseyAnd so that's what I've really tried to lean into in this season of, like, trying new things and putting myself out there and allowing the possibility for people to, like, really make fun of me and be like, who does she think that she is?
Blakely RamseyAnd one thing that has definitely helped me with working through that fear is remembering that I don't want to take advice from people in the cheat seats.
Blakely RamseyAnd look, when I say cheap seats, I do not mean that is not like an income statement.
Blakely RamseyThat is a mindset statement.
Blakely RamseyLike, I do not want to take advice from people who aren't going where I want to go, aren't going where they want to go, are stuck in life, are stagnant in life, are only judging other people because they're projecting their own insecurities, and they're judging other people because they want to try new things, too.
Blakely RamseyAnd they're too scared to get off the couch and do it.
Blakely RamseySo instead, they sit around and judge everyone else.
Blakely RamseyOh, did I just get personal?
Blakely RamseyOh, goodness.
Blakely RamseyI just.
Blakely RamseyI have.
Blakely RamseyI'm sitting in the discomfort right now.
Blakely RamseyAnd that is one thing that I'm realizing is, like, I don't care what those people think about me because I have been in rooms lately with people who are way farther ahead of me.
Blakely RamseyAnd not just in a financial way, but, like, mentally, they're very stable.
Blakely RamseyThey've got a very wonderful home life balance, and I wouldn't even say balance.
Blakely RamseyThey put their family a major priority above their finances.
Blakely RamseyAnd to me, that is more along the lines of where I'm wanting my life to go versus, like, make a ton of money.
Blakely RamseySorry, I got off on a tangent.
Blakely RamseyWhere was I going with that?
Blakely RamseyUm, oh, and what I've learned from being in the room with those people is that they are not going to put you down.
Blakely RamseyLike, if you are trying and putting yourself out there, the people who are already where you want to go, they're not going to turn around and make fun of you.
Blakely RamseyLike, they're going to turn around and give you a hand up.
Blakely RamseyThey're going to turn around and give you a nice word.
Blakely RamseyThey're going to give you a piece of advice.
Blakely RamseyThe only people that are going to make fun of you are the people that are still behind you.
Blakely RamseyUm, so if you are, like, scared of judgment, worried that people are going to talk about you, because they probably are, just think about that.
Blakely RamseyLike, do you want to take advice from people who you don't look up to?
Blakely RamseyDo you want people who you don't look up to to be the reason that you don't accomplish everything you want to accomplish?
Blakely RamseyAt this point in my life, the answer is, sorry, I don't have time for that.
Blakely RamseyDang, I'm spicy tonight.
Blakely RamseyLook, I don't want to make all of this sound like it's super easy.
Blakely RamseyOne day you're just going to wake up and all of a sudden you're going to have all of these revelations.
Blakely RamseyGrowth hurts and it hurts because you don't realize it's happening.
Blakely RamseyYou don't realize it's happening or you think, okay, wow, I just came through a season of growth.
Blakely RamseyThen you think you're going to have a little while in between, and then all of a sudden it's like, wait, I just got out of a growth season.
Blakely RamseyWhy am I in another one?
Blakely RamseyAnd for the longest, I think that I was fearful of putting myself out there and changing and doing things differently because I didn't trust myself to pick myself back up if things didn't go well.
Blakely RamseyLike, I would be like, okay, you know, if this and this and this happens, like, I'm really gonna be so emotionally distraught.
Blakely RamseyAnd here lately, I have had to put myself out there to the point of failing at a lot of things because I'm throwing so many things out at the wall and just seeing what sticks.
Blakely RamseyAnd that has definitely, like, kind of helped me process that a little bit, but the growth still hurts.
Blakely RamseyLike, setting in that growth is not comfortable.
Blakely RamseyI am just learning to, when I'm in it, give myself a moment of self awareness and be like, okay, you know where you're going.
Blakely RamseyYou know what you need to do to get there.
Blakely RamseyThis is just par for the course.
Blakely RamseyAnd I'm not saying it's going to make it easier, but it is going to make it simpler.
Blakely RamseyAnd I love, like, the difference between those two words because I think people confuse simple and easy, and they are definitely two completely different words.
Blakely RamseySo I'm trying to simplify everything.
Blakely RamseyAnd yeah, like I said, this, this change process, this growth process has not been comfortable, but I have been focusing on who I want to become.
Blakely RamseyAnd that has helped a lot to kind of, like, get through the fear and get over the overwhelm of, okay, I have a goal.
Blakely RamseyThis is what I need to get to.
Blakely RamseyInstead of that, I've been trying to pull myself back and go, okay, who do I need to be to get to the point that person in this season is someone who gets up super early and gets her workout in.
Blakely RamseyAnd, you know, I start work.
Blakely RamseyI've been working pretty early to pretty late the last couple of weeks because I'm in a season of I've got to push a little bit, I've got to get the rocket ship out of the atmosphere.
Blakely RamseyI think there's a.
Blakely RamseyI can't remember the exact stat, but I think it takes 90% of a rocket ship's fuel just for it to take off.
Blakely RamseyLike, it has to use all of its energy at the beginning to kind of break the atmosphere, and then the rest of the time it goes off of that other 10%.
Blakely RamseyAnd I feel like most of us are the same way.
Blakely RamseyWe're like, we have to focus on that 90%, the fuel to, like, get us out of the atmosphere.
Blakely RamseyAnd then once we get out of that spot, we can coast a little bit.
Blakely RamseyI think I just mixed those analogies up.
Blakely RamseyI'm so sorry.
Blakely RamseyI was going one direction, and then I took a fork in the road and we went a completely different direction.
Blakely RamseyBut what I was saying was that has helped me overcome some of my overwhelm because I'm like, okay, I need to focus on the little, teeny, tiny steps that I need to take every day to push myself through, and then I can coast on the rest of it.
Blakely RamseyBecause, yeah, in the past, I would, like, get so focused on the goal.
Blakely RamseyLike, I'd be like, okay, I want to make x amount of money, and I would focus on the goal.
Blakely RamseyFocus on the goal.
Blakely RamseyAnd it was so big that it would freak me out.
Blakely RamseySo I've been kind of pulling back and focusing on the, like, micro habits along the way, and it's really helped.
Blakely RamseyI've also been doing a lot of pivoting.
Blakely RamseyI've always been good at that.
Blakely RamseyBut I feel like here lately, I'm really leaning into it because, like I said, I am throwing so many things out the wall and seeing what sticks.
Blakely RamseyA lot of things haven't stuck, and a lot of them I have just been like, okay, that's not going to work.
Blakely RamseyBut other things, I'm like, wait a minute.
Blakely RamseyIt didn't work the way I thought, but what if we tweaked it and it worked this way or that way?
Blakely RamseyAnd so that is another thing that I've really been just kind of, like, leaning into and letting myself sit in and enjoy.
Blakely RamseyI have also.
Blakely RamseyThis last one is the hardest for me.
Blakely RamseyIt shouldn't be as hard as it's been, but it has been.
Blakely RamseyI have been asking other people for help.
Blakely RamseyThat is definitely a foreign concept to me, and it has not been fun.
Blakely RamseyI'm not enjoying it.
Blakely RamseyI don't enjoy asking for help, but I have been asking for help, and it has not been all that bad.
Blakely RamseyLike, really not bad at all.
Blakely RamseyAnd maybe I've just been asking, like, the right people but when I ask for something, it's usually just met with a yes.
Blakely RamseyLike, in my mind, I automatically go to the worst case scenario.
Blakely RamseyOf course, I feel like we all do that.
Blakely RamseyI have been trying here lately to.
Blakely RamseyWhen I think of a worst case scenario, I also think of the best case scenario.
Blakely RamseyAnd that's kind of balanced my mindset a little bit.
Blakely RamseyLike, I'm like, okay, the worst case scenario definitely could happen, but the best case scenario could also happen, and that's pretty amazing, too.
Blakely RamseySo anyway, back to me asking for help, and it's not even on major crazy stuff, but just like, if I have a question about something and I know somebody else knows the answer to it, I just ask them.
Blakely RamseyInstead of me spending an hour researching, trying to figure it out, I'll ask a simple favor.
Blakely RamseyIf I know somebody's running to do something, I'm like, hey, can you run this errand for me?
Blakely RamseyPeople say yes.
Blakely RamseyAnd before I just, I don't know, like, I would put all this stuff on my plate because I didn't want to, quote unquote, bother people because I was scared that they were going to judge me or scared of this or scared of that.
Blakely RamseyAnd so that's kind of like, why it goes.
Blakely RamseyAll goes back to the fear.
Blakely RamseyAnd overcoming fear is so complex because there are literally so many layers.
Blakely RamseyLike, I could talk about this for days because there's so many different parts to that.
Blakely RamseyBut that is the thing that I have been doing lately to kind of try and overcome all of this is thinking of that best case scenario.
Blakely RamseyWhat does that look like?
Blakely RamseyAnd for me, at least since I've started this, I notice that when I think about the best case scenario, I start to assume that's what's going to happen.
Blakely RamseyAnd subliminally I start making choices that lead me towards the best case scenario versus the worst case.
Blakely RamseyAnd it's like, so crazy because you don't even realize that you're doing it.
Blakely RamseyBut before, you know, I would be like, okay, the worst case scenario is going to happen.
Blakely RamseyThis tree is going to fall on me.
Blakely RamseyAnd so I would, like, be fearful, and I'd be looking around scared, waiting for somebody to come in with a chainsaw and cut a tree down.
Blakely RamseyThat might sound like an extreme scenario, but, like, that would be, like a worst case scenario place that my mind would go to now.
Blakely RamseyI'm like, wow, what if I walk over there and that tree has an apple on it?
Blakely RamseyYou know, like the, the initial tree is still there.
Blakely RamseyWow, I really hope that you'll understand this example, because, oh, goodness.
Blakely RamseyOh, I am so tired.
Blakely RamseyWorking on this course has got my brain, like, literally mush.
Blakely RamseySo I do apologize, because this one's gonna be.
Blakely RamseyThis one's gonna be one of those scattered episodes.
Blakely RamseyBut when the whole point of my example was that when I focus on the positive, positive happens, it was it.
Blakely RamseyI really did.
Blakely RamseyI had a great ending.
Blakely RamseyI just kind of lost myself in the middle, as you can hear.
Blakely RamseyAnd if you're watching on YouTube, you can see, because I sound terrible.
Blakely RamseyI'm exhausted all the things.
Blakely RamseyBut I have poured.
Blakely RamseyOh, my gosh, I've poured so much into this course.
Blakely RamseyThe modules are great.
Blakely RamseyThe action lists are great.
Blakely RamseyI created a private podcast so you can listen to your modules on the go.
Blakely RamseyI've created all kinds of wonderful, amazing resources that go in the course.
Blakely RamseyI should probably be charging a little bit more for the course than I am, but like I.
Blakely RamseyI said in last week's episode, I want to make sure that what I put out is 100% before I guess, quote unquote, charge my worth.
Blakely RamseyLike, this one's kind of like my test run.
Blakely RamseyAnd so I do.
Blakely RamseyI want to see how it works before, you know, we go to the big course.
Blakely RamseyAnd I'm also going to give my podcast listeners a discount.
Blakely RamseySo on top of all of the other value that you'll have in the course, you can use the code elevate for 20% off.
Blakely RamseyThat is.
Blakely RamseyCode elevate for 20% off at checkout.
Blakely RamseyLike I said, I have poured all of my, literally all of my time and energy the last several weeks into this course.
Blakely RamseyIt is one of the proudest things that I have ever done.
Blakely RamseyIt is wonderful.
Blakely RamseyI love it.
Blakely RamseyIt's so valuable.
Blakely RamseyI wish I had had it two or three years ago when I.
Blakely RamseyI've been, you know, studying branding and marketing for about nine years, but I really dove in about three years ago, and I wish I'd had this course because it is not, like, super technical.
Blakely RamseyI feel like I've taken so many courses, and it's like, oh, this is how you do this.
Blakely RamseyThis is how you make that.
Blakely RamseyLike, this course gets very deep.
Blakely RamseyLike, it really makes you think about things.
Blakely RamseyAnd that is where I feel like a lot of the growth comes from and a lot of the implementation and the whole course, I am, like, breaking it down for you and telling you how to execute it instead of overwhelming you.
Blakely RamseyAnd it's so good.
Blakely RamseyI can't wait for it to hear y'all's feedback after y'all purchase it, but okay friends, I have got to go get some sleep.
Blakely RamseyI've got to go rest my voice because I need to be back in the game 100% tomorrow because I got a busy day.
Blakely RamseySo thank y'all so much for joining me in this episode and I will see you in the next one.
