Hi. Today's episode is kind of a difficult one for me to put into words, so I'm hoping that the way that I structured it, you can actually follow everything super clearly and have actionable tips to make changes in your content that feel really good for you.

So how I wanna start is by having you think about the last time that you posted something, and you just really felt off about it. Like, you spent time on it, it looked really good, it said something useful, but then when it posted, you looked back on it, and something kind of felt, like, muddy, like bogged down.

Like, you couldn't really put your finger on why it felt like that. And I wanna tell you that feeling that way almost always comes from the same place, and it's that your content is not clear enough yet. And unclear content is literally the number one killer of Instagram growth that nobody's talking about.

So today, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna show you exactly what it looks like so you can spot it and fix it really quickly in your content. Clarity is one of those things that's really, really hard to see in your own content because you're so dang close to it. You know everything to do. You know who you help.

You know what you mean when you write something. But your audience doesn't quite have all the context that you have, so you might feel like something is clear, but then you go to actually watch it back, and it might feel unclear. Your audience is seeing your content cold for the first time with zero background normally, unless you're only being pushed to your current followers.

And if they can't figure out within about two seconds why it matters to them or who you are or who you help, then they're gonna leave. This is not necessarily about being a bad writer or, like, a bad content creator. It's just that you have a few blind spots that are completely fixable once you know what to look for.

And this is why I'm so good at finding it with other people, is because I've been working through this. And as an outsider, it's usually way easier to find these gaps in your content, so one of the main tricks I'm going to talk about is getting an outside perspective. So, like, getting your partner, your best friend, a mom to look at your content and have them tell you if they can understand what it is that you're talking about.

There are three specific signs that your content is not clear enough, and I wanna walk you through each sign so that way you can actually go audit your own account or have a friend do it after this episode. So sign number one is that what's on your profile, like your bio, your name, your pinned post, your highlights, are sending a completely different message than your actual content.

And this is the one I see so often. And when I do Instagram audits in VIP days- This is the main thing that I focus on. It's so easy to miss this from the inside. Someone's bio says that they help busy moms with meal planning, but then you scroll their feed and you get, like, workout tips, you get motivational quotes, you get, like, some business mindset stuff, and maybe one recipe in, like, 10 to 12 posts.

The person that landed on the profile from the meal planning reel is now really confused because they're looking through your content. They're like, "It says it's meal planning, but she doesn't really post a lot about meal planning." So is this a health account? Is this a business account? Is this a lifestyle account?

When your bio and your content are not telling the same story to the viewer, you're creating friction for every single new person who finds you. They can't figure out if they're in the right place, so they're just gonna leave. Your bio is the promise, and then your content has to actually deliver on that promise consistently.

Sign number two is that your content is all information, and you really don't show your personality, or you don't have, like- A unique perspective on something. And this is the most common clarity problem that I see with especially service providers. The content is technically good, your tips are very accurate, but it reads like it could've been written by anyone.

Like, you could've just asked ChatGPT for tips, and it spit out tips for you. So there's not really an opinion in it. There's not a voice. There's no like, "I think," or, "In my experience," or, "Here's what I actually see happening with my clients." Information without your perspective is not gonna build trust, because it doesn't give people a reason to choose you over the 1,000 other people that are posting the same topic.

Clarity is not just about being understood, it's about being recognizable. If somebody covered your name on your post, would they still know it was you? If the answer is no, then that is a big sign. Sign number three is you're not super, super, super clear on who you're talking to, so every single post just feels really generic and broad.

When you're not sure exactly who your content's for, what happens is you're subconsciously writing for, like, anybody that lands on your page. And content that is written for anybody will really resonate with very few people. I'm talking, like, deep resonance. So clear, like, somebody thinks you're actually talking about them.

And this can show up as a post that could literally apply to any business owner, any mom, any person trying to grow on Instagram. There is no specific person in mind when the words are being written. So the fix is just getting way more clear on one specific person so that when you sit down to write, you're basically writing a message to them directly.

So what's their specific frustration right now? What did they Google this morning to try to figure out for their business, for their life? What would make them stop mid-scroll and think, "Wait, wait, wait, wait, this is exactly what I've been looking for," or, "This is exactly what I am going through"? The more specific the person is in your head, the clearer your content will actually become.

Okay, now let's chat about some fixes for these things. So fix number one is you're gonna do a bio and a content audit today. You're gonna pull up your bio, read it out loud, then right after, you're gonna scroll your last nine posts. Do they match? That's the main question you're answering, is do they match each other?

Is the content delivering on what your bio is promising? If somebody found you from your most recent reel, would your bio make sense to them? If there is a mismatch anywhere, that's where I want you to start. So you're either gonna rewrite your bio or you're gonna reframe your content so that way they're both telling the same story.

Fix number two is you're gonna add an opinion or a personal experience to every single post. Before you hit post on anything, you're gonna ask yourself, "What is my perspective on this?" It does not have to be a long story. It can just literally be one line, like in my experience, or I have seen this with a bunch of clients that I work with, or this is the one thing I wish someone had told me sooner.

That one line is what makes the content feel human and gives people a reason to trust you specifically. Fix number three is you're gonna write your next three posts to one person. You're not gonna write it to like a big broad general audience. Just think of like the one person that you genuinely help.

Like what if your bestie was your ideal client and she was coming to you with a question about something that you normally teach on? What are three things you would tell her? Make posts on that. Give your person a name if it helps. I really, really, really hate the very specific avatar like she likes the mountains and she goes for iced coffee, not hot coffee, and it drives me crazy.

But if it makes more sense in your head to like think about one person with a name, go ahead and do that. Just don't get super specific. They live in the country and they love horses. Like let's just- Let's, let's keep our minds general, but think about the problem that your person has. Like, I want you to get that specific about the problem, not about their lifestyle, just, like, what can you help them with?

If you go that deep to, like, the main problem that they're having and how you can help that problem, then you're actually talking to a more general population, but you're just so specific in your problem-solving. I hope this is making sense. This is the thing that I was like, "This is gonna be a little bit muddy."

So you're gonna write your post like you're sending it directly to your bestie. Notice how much more specific your words get when you have one person in mind instead of so many people. That specificity is what is going to make people feel seen and heard, and that is gonna make them want to hang around you for even longer.

Here's the thing about clarity that I really, really, really want you to hear. Being clear does not mean being boring or rigid or super polished. It actually means the opposite. When you know exactly who you're talking to and you're not trying to appeal to everyone all at one time, you get to relax into your actual voice.

You have your own opinions. You get to tell real stories because you've helped people in this situation, or you've helped yourself in this situation. Clarity is what gives you permission to be yourself on Instagram instead of trying to be everything to everyone. The accounts that make money on Instagram are not the ones with the most followers or the most viral reels.

They're the ones where every person who lands on their page immediately thinks, "Yes, this is for me." And that feeling comes from clarity, and that is completely within your control As with all these episodes, I love ending with a quick recap and then an action challenge for you for the following week. So your recap, the three signs that your content is not clear.

One, your bio and your content are sending different messages. Two, your content is all information with no perspective or personality. And three, you're not specific enough about who you are talking to, so everything feels generic. Your three fixes. One, you're gonna audit your bio against your last nine posts.

Make sure they match. Number two, add one opinion or personal experience to every single post before you push schedule or before you push post. You're gonna write your next three posts to one specific person. Think of it like your bestie instead of your general audience. Your action challenge for the week.

I want you to go to your Instagram profile right now and read your bio, then look at your last three posts. See if they match. Does your content deliver on what your bio is promising? If there's some kind of disconnect, I want you to take this week to start fixing that, whether that be your bio or your posts.

Just that. Just start with the bio or the content. Pick one, make them match. I always want these action challenges to be doable and really short so you can actually start to see results faster. And then once you've done that, re-listen to this episode and make sure that everything is flowing properly.

And if you've been listening for a while and getting a ton of value from these episodes, but you still feel like your content is unclear or inconsistent, that's exactly what Plugin Post solves.
