Hey everybody. Welcome to Monday's edition of the Daily Bible podcast. Happy February. Happy February. We're a day late though. And a dollar short. But nonetheless, we're still gonna offer it to you. We hope your February's going great so far. This is one of those special Februarys where I believe it starts. So it's Monday the first, and then I think it ends on SA Sunday, the 28th. 28th. It's almost like a perfect month. It equally divides itself into four weeks. It's beautiful. Yeah. Yeah. Football Sundays, seventh, 14th, 21st, 28th. Oh. And then March will be the same. Well, isn't the Super Bowl soon? Who's doing that? The Super Bowl. Yeah. Is this coming Sunday? Oh, and it That's cool. Is the Seahawks against the Patriots? Oh, I've heard of both of those teams before. Yes. Those guys are both pretty good. They come up here pretty regularly. They do. They do. It's been a little while, but yeah. And. The scripting of the NFL apparently has tipped its hat. They told you that this was gonna happen earlier in the year, as I understand it. Yes. There was a graphic that was put out. Yeah. And it was all of the star players from all the teams looking at the stadium. Yeah. Where the Super Bowl's gonna be held. And the two at the very front of that line were the two starting quarterbacks of these two Super Bowl teams. Wow. And they're the two starting quarterbacks of these particular teams. So it's not like they were traded. Right. And it's like a surprise. So what are the odds of that happening? If you are an NFL, I don't know. You're on the marketing team and you're trying to tell people this thing is scripted. That seems like a pretty good way to do it. I can't deny that I am with you on that. The odds are just almost impossible, right? They are. Well, I'm sure someone has done the math. What would the math be? How many teams are there? 50, 32. Okay. I guess. Okay. That's actually a lesser number than I thought. So two outta 32. And what are the odds at. Both of those teams somewhat. Pull it up on the GPT, ask it to do the math. What's the odd, I don't know how to, I don't know how to ask that. It'll just interpret your under, it'll interpret you. Well just try to ask it in a way that makes sense in the common vernacular, and I'm sure it'll give you a good answer. Yeah, I'm not gonna do that. Okay. Well, my only point, you're not doing it. No. My only point is that the odds are probably low. No I'm with you on that. It's crazy. I think there's a lot of things that if we knew all of the behind the scenes stuff, we let the air out of some of the things that we look at. And we're like, oh, I'm in. I love watching baseball. I love watching football and the excitement. And if we knew that, I wouldn't be surprised if there were decisions made by referees to try to sway the out outcomes of things. And, yeah. Well, I don't know how this is gonna hit you. Okay. I found out, don't hit me not too long ago. That wrestling is fake. What? Yeah. Did Angelo tell you? No, no, no. My friend did not tell me. Okay. No. I always called Colgan recently died. I heard that too. He did die. And that's when I found out. Yeah. Never been the same. Not only is the Super Bowl coming up, but we are sending people back out by the moon. Again, did you hear about that? Did not. So Artemis Two's mission to the moon, so this is SpaceX I believe, and they're not landing on the moon, but they're going out. I believe they're gonna orbit and come back. And so this is kind of a big deal because it's been since the 1970s that we've sent a manned mission, even in relative proximity to the moon. And I believe this is going to go further out as a manned flight than we've ever had any manned flight before. So. This is a a That's pretty cool. A big arc around the moon. Didn't Apollo 13 though? Didn't they do the slingshot around the moon? They orbited? Yeah, but I think they're, this one's going out further. Oh, okay. And so, but how many mile, like a mile or two or, yeah, I know. 13 inches. Yes. We got 13. We're the best guys. Well, in Apollo 13 was, they had to do that because the failure of all their systems and stuff, they had to use the moon's gravity to slingshot them back. This is, we're doing this on purpose. Okay. So, alright. That's, that's great. And I think it's in preparation because we want to try to put people back on the moon. Well, I thought Mars was the goal to colonize Mars. Isn't that Elon? That's part of it. Yeah. And Pastor Mark said once there, I think he said once there's like 50 people up there, then he's willing to go. Wow. So that's his standard. He's pioneering. He wants Compass, Bible Church. Church, Mars. All right. All right. So anyways, that's kind of fascinating to think about people going to outer space and being by the moon again. That would be pretty cool. Some of you're listening going, you mean for the first time? Because they don't believe that we actually did land on the moon. Ooh. That's another conspiracy theory for another day. It is. Yeah. That it is.

Bernard:

One of the fine editors of this podcast is too much of a nerd not to insert some corrections and trivia here. Artemis 2 is a NASA mission designed to loop around the Moon without landing, similar to Apollo 8. It plans to travel approximately one to two thousand miles farther from Earth than any previous crewed mission, which would surpass the current record held by Apollo 13 during its emergency return trajectory. Nice to see y'all again. But back to the Daily Bible Podcast...

Well, hey, we did get a question that we should probably address Sure. From one of our listeners who wanted to address one of the laws given in the Old Testament that talked about what happens when a man we'll put it. As PG is, we can't takes advantage of a virgin who's not his wife. Well, the word is seduces. That's an important word. Seduces. Okay. Yeah. Seduces a virgin who's not his wife. Exodus 22 verses 16 and 17. Thank you. Yeah. I was looking for the context and so the question is, scripture then gives permission for this man to marry this woman, or if the father of this woman denies that, then there's other prohibitions given there. And so the question is how is this right? How is this fair? This should be punished. Was the questioners. Stance on this? To add to that, let me just clarify. Yeah. It seems wrong. And yet it's a law. So it's a law. It's on the books. It's not just God saying, Hey I need to warn you about this. God is providing. A governing law to say this is what's gonna happen. And he also says it could cause someone to our word, a young maiden. A virgin, yes. Yes. To get her to be his wife. So it's like, oh, you're rewarded by having, yeah. You got what you wanted. Now you're gonna get it forever. It seems like it endorses something evil. Yeah. And you brought up the word seduces is important there. Because this seems to imply that this is more of a consensual act than it is a forceful act. And as a result, this would be two people who it would appear want to be together who would then be encouraged to go ahead and get married, do the thing that is right, then buy them unless verse 17 of her father. Utterly refuses to give her to him. He shall pay money equal to the bride price for the daughter. So that's making things right, as far as her honor is concerned in the eyes of her fa family and her father. But I think one of the reasons why he. It is encouraged, they are encouraged to get married is for the good of that relationship and the honor that's involved there. This is the young woman, yeah. Honor, shame culture. So she would've been ashamed had they not gotten married. And so this is the right thing to do. This is not condoning the act of premarital before the act of getting married. But this is saying, this is what's right to do afterwards and this is what you should do unless the man, the woman's father says, no, I'm not gonna allow for this. And then there's a provision given for that as well. Yeah, you might remember in two Samuel 13 where Amon lays with his half-sister Tamar. He's in love with. Her love lust is probably more a better way to talk about that. And eventually he he does what he intends to do with her, and so she's wrecked, but then he's like, Hey, get outta here. And she's like, no. That would be sitting against me worse than the first thing. Mm-hmm. Don't compound this. Mm-hmm. In other words I'm yours now. To stay with you is better than to be rejected because now I can't remarry. No one's gonna ever, it's gonna be found out everybody. Well, no, I can't remarry. I'm gonna be stuck at home for the rest of my life. Single and unable to leave my parents home. We talked yesterday in the podcast about polygamy. Mm-hmm. And how polygamy and my estimation was something that God said, this is a necessary evil for sufficient good that God determines. And in that case, it'd be protecting women the most vulnerable. We don't want her to become a prostitute. We don't want her to become a slave. The best thing. In all the evil options is this. And so here this is a text that again, adds parameters for her protection and not for the protection of the fellow. This is not to reward him, this is to protect her. Yep. And the emphasis is important. You can't read that because all you see is the black and white text, but you have to think, okay, what's the heart of God here? God is for protecting his people upholding justice, and this is one of the ways that he does this. This is not endorse the R word. This is the opposite of that. In fact, later on, Moses is gonna talk about the R word. This I agree with you, is a consensual act. At least it's suggested. So because it's seduction. Mm-hmm. Now one is ex still exercising a certain level of power over the other, but there's still a sense of, okay, I willingly concede to this thing. Yeah. Yep. Good question. Good reading and being atten attentive to some of these things. Feel free to write in your questions to podcast@compassntx.org. Well, let's keep going. In our daily Bible reading, we are in Exodus 29 through 30 today, so we have seen yesterday the priestly garments, which Pastor Rod is working on my turban, I believe, in his free time at home. Yeah. I'm getting a great design. Awesome. I'm gonna put all of our faces on it. Cool. Hidden. That's great. Pretty great. That's awesome. Yeah. I've already started thinking about your ornament for this coming year. Okay. For Christmas. It's gonna be great. Listen, but the people are clamoring for a Pastor Rod version of the ornament. The staff may come and go. The everyone here is replaceable except for you. That's not true. So I think it makes a lot more sense to do ornaments of Pastor PJ's head larger and larger each year. I think if you guys want to see Pastor Rod on the ornament this year, you should write in to podcast@compassantix.org. I will automatically send those to the trash. I get to make the decisions here so. If you really wanna plead for it I'll let you do that in person. I wanna see tears. Yeah, I wanna see, I wanna see clothing. They want it's like action figures. They want like, the set of collectibles. Oh, I see. That's not the way, like I grew up with Ninja Turtles. If all I got was Leonardo over and over and over again. Even though he was my favorite I wouldn't be happy. I would be like, man, I need the other guys. Yeah. But see, there was always four Ninja Turtles though. Yeah. Here, you never know. There could be seven Ninja Turtles by the end of this year, but people could be like, we've been here since the days of Pastor p and Pastor Rob and Pastor Mark. I don't know. Let us carry on to the text. Alright, let's go. 29 Consecration of the Priest consecration is. The concept of setting apart again, it's to be made holy. It's from a word that means to cut, and so they are being removed, cut apart, separated from the masses. And this is of the priest because they have a unique role that they need to be set apart to do in. Service of the Lord. So part of that's gonna involve these offerings. And the key offering here is gonna be the sin offering. Talking about the bowl that's gonna be brought before the 10th of meeting. There's gonna be Aaron and his sons laying their hands on the bowl, on the head of the bowl then Moses is going to kill the bull. Now, later on, the priest are gonna do this, but this is for the priest, so he's gonna be the one that's gonna do this. And there's gonna be a lot to do with the blood. Now, one of the things that's gonna happen with the blood is something that always used to trip me up until I heard somebody explain it to me. But verse 19 and 20, you should take the other rams. So there's bowls that are offered, there's rams that are also offered as well, and one of the rams, they're gonna kill, they're gonna take the blood of the ram, they're gonna put it on the tip of the right. Ear of Aaron and on the tips of the ears of his sons and on the thumbs of the right hands and on the great toes, the big toe of the right feet. And I used to think, what is this? And then it was explained to me, this is them being consecrated in what they hear, in what they do and in where they go. So this is, hey. Everything that you are needs to be set apart for the Lord. The things that you take in your ear, what you hear, you are to be holy in those things. The things that you do, your right hand, the things that, that are gonna be done with your hands, you need to be holy in what you do and where you go. The toe of your right foot is gonna be consecrated as well set apart for the Lord. Where you go is to be holy to the Lord. So this is a way of sending them all apart, their whole body to say, you now belong to the Lord. And you might think too, that this is. Really cool symbolism for these Old Testament guys who are priests. I think that this is an easy copy and not a full copy and paste, but a copy and paste is New Testament Christians. We are called kings and priests, Queens and priestesses, I suppose. But we are now set apart by the spirit. We have a greater and better covenant than what these guys enjoyed. As privileged as their position is, you and I get to go to the holies of Holies. Anytime we want that, we have full. Unmitigated access because of our relationship to God through Christ, by his spirit. And so if it applied to them under the ministry of Moses. How much more does your consecration apply to you? Under the ministry of Christ, we have a better house, a better Moses, a better covenant. We ought to do the same and take great caution and care about how we live in consecration to the Lord. There's other offerings that are gonna be involved here, including a food offering in verse 25 and verse 26. Part of this is gonna be a wave offering that's going to be offered. There's prescriptions for what they're to do during this ordination process where Aaron and his sons are instructed on what they should eat and what they should, how they should go about this. And then there's the time period and it says this, that you, thus you shall do to Aaron and his sons. Verse 35, according to all that, have commanded you through seven days, shall you ordain them. Every day you shall offer a bowl as a sin offering. They're also offering two lambs a day. So this is quite the ordeal. This is quite the bloody encounter here that they're gonna have with this sanctification process. And yet ultimately it's gonna be God that is going to sanctify the people. And so even though he's laying out all of these things, if you look over at verse 42, it says it shall be a regular burnt offering throughout your generations at the entrance of the tenant meeting before the Lord where. I will meet with you to speak with you there. There I will meet with the people of Israel and it shall be sanctified by my glory. I will consecrate the 10 meeting in the altar. And so all of this is symbolic, representing the fact that this is God setting Israel apart, setting Aaron in his sons apart. This is them doing this and God is the one acting here and verse 45 is critical. Here I will dwell among the people of Israel and will be their God. The whole purpose of all of these things was that. So a sinful people could be in communion with their holy God. All of this rigor. A roll. All this pomp and circumstance, all of these blood, these awful, violent, bloody affairs are meant to unite the people with God and the whole stumbling block between them and God was their sin. And so all of these things are meant to be pictures to the people to say, this is how we relate to each other, because of your sin. Now it needs to be bloodshed so that I can dwell with you. This is the goal of all of these sacrifices, and that is the goal of Christ's sacrifice. He was crucified, he was slain so that we could dwell with God and he dwell with us. Revelation 21 is gonna show us how this all comes together. It culminates. Where God himself dwells with us and we are his people, and God Himself will be with us as our God. That's the goal of this whole thing, the whole Bible. Genesis two revelation is about God dwelling with us once again as he did in the garden through the ministry of Jesus Christ, and he does this to the glory of his name. This is an awesome book, as challenging as Exodus is, and Leviticus will also be challenging for some of the same reasons. You have to remember the goal here, the end goal is God dwelling with his people. So chapter 30, then we get into more of the process here, including the altar of incense. We've got the census tax that he's gonna talk about there of charging people and how that's gonna be used for the care of things and the upkeep of things. Different components. The sleep significance of washing, which was a big deal if you didn't wash. It's not just that you didn't eat you, you don't wash you, you're gonna die. So maybe. Parents, you want to say to your kids if you're saying, Hey, go wash your hands, you could say, you could have it worse. You could be, Hey, wash your hands. Or there's worse consequences. Chapter 30 here, he's gonna talk about this multiple times. The aroma. Do you think the aroma is more for the benefit of God or do you think the aroma of these things is for the benefit of men? Benefit as in, well, you can't benefit God in any sense. Right. Is God smelling? Because we talk about the fact that God doesn't have, he doesn't have olfactory glands and like that olfactory glands. Yeah. He's not a human. But I would argue that God can sense even if he doesn't have the sense of smell like we have, I, I would, it would be impossible for me to say that God doesn't have the ability to smell even if he doesn't have the nose to smell. Does that make sense? Mm-hmm. So if perception. For us is five senses. I would have to say God has five ways, 5 billion ways to sense. Mm-hmm. Without having our specific channels. Mm-hmm. Or tools for those things. So does God have eyes? No. But he sees everything. Does God have ears? Nobody hears everything. Does God have a nose? Nobody smells everything. So I'd have to say yes, I think God has benefited, blessed, I guess is a better word, maybe blessed. I would say that one that feels better than benefited. 'cause I can't add anything to God, but I can't bless him. I can't do good to him by saying, here's the smell. And I think God is pleased by that. Yeah. Again we've got these other elements here of these components that are gonna go into what's gonna happen in the construction, which is where we're gonna turn tomorrow with Oab and Beel and the beginning of the work on this, which is great. I love the story of these two guys, and we'll talk more about that tomorrow. But let's jump over to our New Testament reading. Matthew chapter 22 verses one through 22. So Matthew 22, 1 through 22, we get Jesus continuing to talk about parables and he's really turning the heat up. I mentioned yesterday he told this parable about the tenants and the parable about the two sons. He's gonna continue with the parable of the wedding feast. And this is the king going out and inviting people to come to the wedding of his son. And initially those that are invited are going to turn down the invitation, sorry, we're too busy, we can't be there. We've got other things going on. And so then after this, the king is gonna say, okay then go out, go to the highways, go to the byways, invite everyone that you possibly can to come and be a part of the wedding. And so the servants are going to go do that and instead those that were first invited are going to be turned away. They're going to be rejected. So this is such an interesting parable, including when the king shows up, there's a man there who has no wedding garment. And my best read on this is even though the invitation was gonna go out far and wide and go beyond Israel, there was still going to be requirements. There was still a standard and there was still gonna be a necessary entrance. Qualifications, so to speak, into the wedding. And this for us as the church we understand is faith and repentance. And so even though the car's, the call's gonna be issued far and wide, it's gonna be much broader than just to Israel. There still is a qualification to attend this wedding feast. To be part of the kingdom of God, you have to be dressed in the right garments. And I think that's what's going on with this man who doesn't have the garment. The wedding garment there at the end. Amen to that. It seems like in verse 13 here that because he's not dressed appropriately, because he is not qualified to be there, the result is not just, Hey buddy, you gotta leave. It is tossing him out into a place where there's weeping and gnashing of teeth, and this is typical language for the reality of hell, which has been in the news lately. We, maybe we should talk about that one again soon. Kurt Cameron had brought friends on the thing and other people have responded to this anyway. This is language for hell, and so this. Wedding garments is more than just, are you fashionably dressed? This is, are you qualified to be here? So I hope I'm not stretching it too much. I think knowing what we know about the New Testament, we're gonna say that it's not just that you have to be in the church, you have to be dressed in Christ's righteousness, right? You can't just show up to a Sundays and say, Hey, I'm here, Lord I'm part of this. And he's gonna say, well, how did you get, like, why? Why are you here? This isn't fitting for you because you're not dressed right and it has nothing to do with what you wear. It has everything to do with where you trust. Your salvation to lie. And if you're dressed in the righteousness of Christ, you are now qualified by his grace to stand before him fully and freely blameless of any sin and shame. And that's what makes us right with God. It is Jesus righteousness. And so in verse 14, many are called fewer chosen. The gospel call goes to all people at all places but only those who embrace the righteousness of Christ by clo, by being clothed with him are truly those who are going to see heaven. From this the Pharisees, they go out and they continue their attack on Christ and their plot to try to trap him. And so they ask him this question about paying taxes, will you encourage us to, to pay taxes to Caesar or not? And they're partnering with the Herodians, which is an uncommon bond here. And yet they can both unite, I guess over their disdain for Jesus. In what he's doing. And so is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? And Jesus aware of what's going on here says, oh, why put me to the test? You hypocrites, show me the coin. And this where he says, whose likeness is on it? And they say, it's Caesar's. And then he says, therefore, render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God, the things that are God. So it's almost as though Jesus is like, yeah, fine. Give Caesar his coins, give him that, but give God what he really owes, which is everything. And again, that's what the Pharisees were failing to do in rejecting what God was doing through Christ. Yeah, and even this, I would say he's not, he's answering their question, but not directly. Yeah. But again, we have him interacting with his opponents, not with a clear A plus B equal C kind of formula. Here. Jesus interacts wisely shrewdly. He's engaging with them and yet he's not doing so. With a kind of like, Jesus, just tell me plainly, one way or the other. Yeah. Now he engages with us according to the way that we show up to him, and I think that's an important principle for how we engage with the Lord. Yeah. If we play games with him I would expect him to be less forthcoming than if we say, Lord, help me. I'm struggling. Here's my issue. Here's what I'm struggling with. I think the Lord loves to welcome those who are weak in their faith, but not those who are what's the opposite of genuine faith or. The bad faith, insincere bad faith efforts. Yeah. So good faith versus bad faith. Yeah. If someone comes to him in good faith, he responds accordingly. Yeah. If someone comes to him in bad faith, you see the same thing. Yep. Alright. Hey, let's pray and then we'll be done with this episode. God, we thank you for the truthfulness of your word. We thank you for what we can understand about who you are through the Old Testament and these things that you've set up, these para these parameters, the consecration making us, holy Lord we're grateful that as the church we're holy with the righteousness of Christ, even as we talked about with this wedding. Garment that we need to make sure that we're dressed in, that we're dressed Lord, not in priestly garb. That is our manmade but we're dressed with the righteousness of Christ. That that's our entrance point that comes through faith and repentance in him and what he's done for us. So we pray, Lord, that we would honor you and the rest of the way that we live today, and that we would turn our attention back to the Word again tomorrow as you give us a new day. If you do. And that we would thrive as we continue to grow in our understanding and knowledge of you. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Hey guys, don't forget tomorrow is a new day and you've got another part of the Bible to keep reading with us tomorrow. So don't give up. You're doing a great job. I know we're getting into the weeds a little bit with the Old Testament. Mm-hmm. But it's gonna pay off. So keep going with us. We'll catch you guys tomorrow. See that. Bye.
