So whether it's relationship focused, health focused, career focused, you name it, you can do this same exact reverse engineering to any goal.
Speaker BWe're sitting here a few months out from the new year, and if you're anything like us, I've already let a goal slip away or not have not kept up with it, and I'm not happy about it.
Speaker BGoing to talk about a couple different ways to set goals, reverse engineer what you really want.
Speaker BAnd also we're going to talk about a timeline.
Speaker AYeah, Brian, I'm right there with you, and I think you talk about timeline.
Speaker AI gave myself too much time on this one.
Speaker AI'm going to put this off, but I'm planning on doing a half marathon in July.
Speaker AThe six months, seven months of training is too much time.
Speaker ASo I've swam once this year.
Speaker AThe piece that I'm worst at, it.
Speaker BHappens to me, man.
Speaker BI think that's where I get into trouble, is I set too many goals.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BAnd then I want to try to accomplish them all.
Speaker BWe have, you know, a business to run, multiple kids.
Speaker BSometimes there's not enough time in the day.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BSo, you know, really, I want to.
Speaker BI want to dig in on helping those people that if you're like us and something, you set a goal at the beginning of the year.
Speaker BYou know, January is always a great time to set that goal.
Speaker BHow do you reel it back in?
Speaker BHow do you reverse engineer what you really want?
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BLike, is it.
Speaker BI want to lose 15 pounds by July 1st.
Speaker BOkay, well, let's get back on track.
Speaker BHow do we reverse engineer that to get what you want?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AI think everyone, and I know, and Andy for Sal, is a huge advocate for this, but we are obligated to be the best versions of ourselves.
Speaker AI don't think everyone has to necessarily be cutthroat, like gung ho about blowing out of the water.
Speaker ABut it is extremely important to have goals.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AIf you don't have any goals, I genuinely feel sorry for you because what are you actually striving for?
Speaker AOr, like, are we just going through the motions, waking up each day and then going to bed?
Speaker ALike, what's the point of it?
Speaker ASo setting goals is in direct correlation with someone's health, success, relationships.
Speaker AGive me some insight.
Speaker AGive our audience some insight on how you can set a goal and then back that down into small attainable steps to increase your likelihood of achieving it.
Speaker BWe tried to look up some of the stats, you know, prior to this show, and we couldn't find a ton of data on, you know, there's A lot.
Speaker BWell, there is, right?
Speaker BAnd we couldn't, you know, is it 50% if you write it down or 65% if you tell a friend, like, there's a.
Speaker BThere's a lot of data out there.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BThere's a lot of statistics.
Speaker BYou know, one thing I know to be true is, you know, the reverse engineering process.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BAnd I'm going to take an example.
Speaker BMe and my wife, we have four kids.
Speaker BWe have both work full time.
Speaker BThis is an area where, you know, coming up on 2024, we wanted to spend more engaged time together.
Speaker BSo what does that look like?
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BOkay, set a timeline.
Speaker BJuly 1, we wanted to hang out or, you know, spend engaged time together at least once per week.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BSo Thursday night, that's our date night.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BAnd what we've done is.
Speaker BAnd anybody can do, you know, whatever, you can go for a hike or a bike ride or if you like to, you know, exercise together, whatever that looks like.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BSo one thing that we're doing is we set a night.
Speaker BIt was Thursday nights.
Speaker BAnd each week that person schedules, whether it's a dinner date out, they schedule the babysitter, or if it's a dinner date in, where, you know, we're either playing a game or watching a show together, we're ordering takeout or, you know, Chinese or hell, I guess now with DoorDash, where we can pretty much order.
Speaker AAnything for a huge markup.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BThose are the things.
Speaker BAnd we've been pretty good with that.
Speaker BBut that is an area that we struggled with in 2023.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BIt was like, oh, my God, like, we can.
Speaker BWe can fit in a date night here and there.
Speaker BAnd there wasn't any real schedule to it.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BSo when we talk about reverse engineering, that is our night.
Speaker BAnd every week that is our specific night that we know we're not planning anything else on that evening.
Speaker BThere's several different examples, and I'm just using this one to reverse engineer what it is we want.
Speaker BAnd so the goal was spend more engaged time together, no phones.
Speaker BAnd this is the action that we're doing towards that.
Speaker ANo, I love it.
Speaker AAnd to break it down a little bit more, what is the goal?
Speaker ASpend more time.
Speaker AWhat is that in regards to your relationship, your marriage?
Speaker ASo.
Speaker ASo whether it's relationship focused, health focused, career focused, you name it, you can do this same exact reverse engineering to any goal.
Speaker AYeah, correct.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BNo, for sure.
Speaker BAnd I think, like, let's just take, for example, the fitness.
Speaker BIf I'm a person and say I'm 30 pounds overweight, and I want to lose 30 pounds.
Speaker BI think people get too generic or too general.
Speaker BOh, I think I want.
Speaker BAnd the conversation, I think goes like this, right?
Speaker BIt's like I want to lose like 20 or 30 pounds.
Speaker BLike, you have to be specific, right?
Speaker BLike you're giving yourself too much leeway when you're reverse engineering.
Speaker BJust like, you know, with the diet or the exercise, or you want to lose 30 pounds by a specific date, you have to have the ability to give up certain things, whether that's giving up fast food or, you know, saying no to a Saturday night get together with your buddies where you're going to Crush, you know, 10 beers and then Sunday morning you're going to go out and grab Chipotle, which is like 2,000 calories.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BSo having the ability to say no to some of those things on the front end because you want to reach that goal by that specific date.
Speaker BI talked a little bit about timing, man, but like, how important do you think, like the, the time side of it is?
Speaker AWhatever goal you're setting, when do you want to achieve that by, you know, career wise?
Speaker AIt's easy if you break it down weekly, daily, quarterly, monthly, whatever it may be.
Speaker ASo, like that's going to be your timing by the end of X months.
Speaker AWe want to achieve this goal.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ASo that's easy.
Speaker AThe personal goals often get neglected because you get consumed in whatever consumes majority of your life.
Speaker ASo when you're setting personal goals or career goals, whatever it may be, have a set goal.
Speaker AAnd when you want to achieve that buy, make sure it's realistic.
Speaker ABut I would also encourage you to set unrealistic goals because that's how you really continue to win and set yourself apart from everyone else is by hammering home the unrealistic goal.
Speaker ASo set a date.
Speaker AWhat is the objective?
Speaker AWhat's the goal?
Speaker AYou know, we mentioned the 30 pounds because it's an easy example, but 30 pounds in three months?
Speaker BYep.
Speaker AOkay, now let's break that down.
Speaker AThat means I need to lose £10 per month, right, for the next three months.
Speaker BYep.
Speaker ABreak that down a little bit more.
Speaker AWhat activities do you need to do daily and weekly to get to that point?
Speaker BSure.
Speaker AAnd here's where people screw up.

Speaker AYou can find us at Veritas Logistics.
Speaker AThey want to prolong the timeline or make it, you know, drug out as long as possible with a start date in another month because they want to buy themselves time.
Speaker ABut like stop setting, just start times out in the future.
Speaker AStart now with something small.
Speaker BWhat do you.
Speaker BWhen you say start times, what do you mean?
Speaker BLike, what do you mean by that?
Speaker AYou'll hear it early December.
Speaker AYou'll hear everyone talk about their New Year's resolutions, where I'm going to start January 1st.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ADrinking a ton of alcohol, but I'm going to start.
Speaker AStop drinking January 1st.
Speaker AIf you're drinking a ton of alcohol, just stop now.
Speaker AHow about you start date.
Speaker BToday's the day.
Speaker BNow.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AIn terms of timing, like, if your goal is to lose 30 pounds in three months and you break that down, I'm going to walk one mile a day.
Speaker AI'm going to cut out the unhealthy food that I've been consuming and I'm going to tell my wife that I'm committing to walking one mile per day.
Speaker AI'm cutting out the fast food, the coke, the unhealthy processed foods that I've been consuming.
Speaker AAnd I would like for you to go on a walk with me three days a week.
Speaker BLove it.
Speaker BLike a, like an accountability partner.
Speaker BI feel like, what were we.
Speaker BI know we were talking about the statistics a little bit earlier.
Speaker BWhat were some of them?
Speaker BIf you tell you're 60 to 70%.
Speaker AMore likely to achieve a goal.
Speaker AIf you tell the right people.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AIn your situation, telling your wife, in my 30 pound example, I told my wife because we trust them to hold us accountable to achieve those goals.
Speaker AAlso, Wednesday rolls around and I'm on the couch eating potato chips.
Speaker AMy wife is going to say, how was your walk?
Speaker AWhat are you snacking on there?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AAnd she's going to hold me accountable to my goal.
Speaker ASo breaking it down into smaller attainable goals to reach that, that bigger goal, that's how you win.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BI do have one question to that, man.
Speaker BWhat if the chips are ruffles, sour cream, cheddar?
Speaker BSo good.
Speaker AI need to get that.
Speaker AYou need to get that.
Speaker BThe ruffles, sour cream and cheddar are like, hands down the best.
Speaker AThe only way I found this out through trialing there you have to use a pressure washer.
Speaker BOh, is that right?
Speaker ATo get the chips out of your teeth?
Speaker ABecause those things do not.
Speaker BNo, they don't.
Speaker AIt's unbelievable.
Speaker ABut we are going to include a few links in the notes to our favorite goal setting tools.
Speaker ASo please check those out.
Speaker ALet us know your thoughts on them.
Speaker BYeah, and if you need help setting goals or getting help with the reverse engineering side of it, even if you're in logistics sales or logistics brokerage or if you're part of an asset based company, you know, DM us on LinkedIn, we'd love to help out and share your what we can.
Speaker CBut you're going to want to come up with a contract that not only deals with all the legal things that you're going to be required to make sure the carrier does like have its insurance safety rating, comply with laws, carb.
Speaker CThe list goes on and on and on.
Speaker CBut you're going to want to make sure you address things that maybe a document off the Internet hasn't thought about.
