Melissa Deally:

Welcome back to another edition of health hack as I continue talking about the power and benefits of gratitude journaling, and today, I want to talk about when is the best time to do your gratitude journaling. And really, the answer to that is the time that works best for you and your calendar such that you will do it. However, there are great benefits to doing it right before you go to bed. Because when we focus on what we're grateful for, right before we go to bed, that's and those are the last thoughts we have, our unconscious mind will work on that all night long. So we're feeding our unconscious mind all of that positivity. So you go to sleep happy. And that means that you are able to get into a deeper restorative sleep versus if you're going to bed with stressful thoughts about your day that you just had or the day ahead, or thoughts about your to do list. If you go to sleep with those thoughts, your unconscious mind will work on those all night long. And you may toss and turn all night long and not have that deep restorative sleep. The other benefit to going to sleep with gratitude thoughts in your mind is that if you do wake up in the night, and you have a hard time getting back to sleep, sometimes all it can take is going back to those thoughts of gratitude and pushing everything else out of your mind. Maybe doing some breath work, some 557 breathing, which I've talked about here on this health hack show several times previously. And that can help you fall asleep again quite easily. The other time of day that many people like to do their gratitude journaling is first thing in the morning when they wake up. As that can set your day off on the right, the right foot so that you can be manifesting a great day ahead by being grateful for what you have in your life. So what I personally like to do is I like to write my gratitude journal before I go to bed so my brain can go to sleep on all of those happy thoughts. And when I wake up in the morning, I like to just review them, just to remind myself, have the good fortune that I have in my life, everything I'm grateful for, as I start out my day, and manifest a great day ahead for myself. So I hope that helps if you're trying to decide when you want to do your gratitude journal, but at the end of the day, if doing it over a meal and speaking it out loud with your family, is what works best for you. Then do that because really just expressing your gratitude is what's most important, regardless of the time of day. Happy gratitude.
