But you will learn more
Speaker:each and every time.
Speaker:Plus there are things like
Speaker:what I do, which is the
Speaker:Bible recap, which does
Speaker:lay it out chronologically.
Speaker:So the old Testament ends with
Speaker:a cliffhanger anticipating
Speaker:the arrival of the Messiah.
Speaker:So between the old and new
Speaker:Testament, there's a year gap.
Speaker:So that would be like
Speaker:between now and That feels
Speaker:like a long time, right?
Speaker:So after years, a man
Speaker:arrived in Galilee
Speaker:claiming to be the Messiah.
Speaker:His name was Jesus.
Speaker:Hello, friends.
Speaker:Welcome to Fed by the Fruit, a
Speaker:podcast focused on nourishment

Speaker:who God is and what he
Speaker:wants for and from us.
Speaker:through powerful testimonies,
Speaker:biblical truth, and so much
Speaker:more as we fuel our minds and
Speaker:bodies in ways that honor him.
Speaker:Let's get fed.
Speaker:Hello friends, happy Monday.
Speaker:Welcome to Fed by the Fruit.
Speaker:How are we?
Speaker:I hope that you're doing great.
Speaker:We are in already week
Speaker:three of September.
Speaker:And so that means our episode
Speaker:is how to apply biblical
Speaker:principles to our everyday lives.
Speaker:And what I thought we could
Speaker:talk about today is what
Speaker:even is the Bible and how
Speaker:do we go about reading it?
Speaker:I think that was one of the
Speaker:questions I had, like I didn't
Speaker:know much about the Bible and
Speaker:I certainly didn't know how to
Speaker:read it and actually feel like
Speaker:I was gaining understanding.
Speaker:So I want to share some
Speaker:things with you today.
Speaker:So let's just dive right in
Speaker:The Bible is a collection of books
Speaker:that explores the relationship
Speaker:between God and humanity.
Speaker:It literally tells us why we exist
Speaker:and what we are called to be.
Speaker:Before the invention of the
Speaker:printing press, the books of the
Speaker:Bible were written on scrolls.
Speaker:Some books like Samuel and
Speaker:Kings are to this day split
Speaker:into two parts because they were
Speaker:too long to fit on one scroll.
Speaker:That's why we have
Speaker:First and Second Samuel,
Speaker:First and Second Kings.
Speaker:It's because those books were too
Speaker:long to fit on a single scroll.
Speaker:There are two major sections
Speaker:of the Bible, the Old Testament
Speaker:and the New Testament.
Speaker:The Old Testament is the
Speaker:story of God building a nation
Speaker:of people called Israel.
Speaker:The New Testament is the
Speaker:story of God sending his son
Speaker:as the savior of the world.
Speaker:It's my story and your story.
Speaker:This is our genealogy,
Speaker:our history, the story of
Speaker:where you and I come from.
Speaker:Did you know that Jesus was a Jew?
Speaker:Christians and Jewish people
Speaker:share a common history.
Speaker:Christianity is the simple fact
Speaker:that we believe Jesus is the
Speaker:Messiah of the Jewish faith
Speaker:and the Jews do not believe
Speaker:that he is the son
Speaker:of God, the Messiah.
Speaker:The Old Testament is books
Speaker:written in Hebrew and Aramaic.
Speaker:These books can be divided
Speaker:into five major sections.
Speaker:So it begins with
Speaker:the Torah or the law.
Speaker:Those books include
Speaker:Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus,
Speaker:Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
Speaker:That's the Torah.
Speaker:Second, we have history.
Speaker:That includes Joshua, Judges,
Speaker:Ruth, First and Second Samuel,
Speaker:First and Second Kings,
Speaker:First and Second Chronicles,
Speaker:Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther.
Speaker:Third, we have poetry.
Speaker:Poetry includes Job, Psalms,
Speaker:Proverbs, Ecclesiastes,
Speaker:and Song of Songs.
Speaker:Fourth, we have the major
Speaker:prophets, Isaiah, Jeremiah,
Speaker:Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel.
Speaker:And finally, fifth, we have the
Speaker:minor prophets, Hosea, Joel,
Speaker:Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah,
Speaker:Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah,
Speaker:Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.
Speaker:Now, the major prophets
Speaker:aren't more important
Speaker:than the minor prophets.
Speaker:It's just that the major
Speaker:prophets, the books, are longer.
Speaker:So the books of the Bible are
Speaker:not in chronological order.
Speaker:Talk about confusing, right?
Speaker:That's why context
Speaker:is so important.
Speaker:You cannot just read the Bible
Speaker:one time in your life, no matter
Speaker:how many times you read it,
Speaker:you'll never understand it all.
Speaker:But you will learn more
Speaker:each and every time.
Speaker:Plus there are things like
Speaker:what I do, which is the
Speaker:Bible recap, which does
Speaker:lay it out chronologically.
Speaker:So the Old Testament ends with
Speaker:a cliffhanger anticipating
Speaker:the arrival of the Messiah.
Speaker:So between the Old and New
Speaker:Testament, there is a year gap.
Speaker:So that would be like
Speaker:between now and That feels
Speaker:like a long time, right?
Speaker:So after years, a man
Speaker:arrived in Galilee
Speaker:claiming to be the Messiah.
Speaker:His name was Jesus.
Speaker:And we as Christians, again, we
Speaker:believe he was God in human form.
Speaker:coming to restore the world
Speaker:to God's original plan like
Speaker:it was before the fall, right?
Speaker:We talked about the way God
Speaker:planned for the world to be.
Speaker:ah So now we have the New
Speaker:Testament, which is books, and
Speaker:they were written in Greek,
Speaker:sharing the life, death,
Speaker:and resurrection of Jesus.
Speaker:It also explores the spread of
Speaker:Christianity in a collection
Speaker:of letters written to
Speaker:different people about how to
Speaker:live as followers of Jesus.
Speaker:I have recently just like
Speaker:finally just identified what it
Speaker:is that I'm trying to do here.
Speaker:And my mission is to turn
Speaker:believers into followers.
Speaker:I believe i believe most of
Speaker:the people who tune in and
Speaker:listen to me are believers.
Speaker:They have a level of belief,
Speaker:but they're not living
Speaker:their lives as followers.
Speaker:And that's what I want for you.
Speaker:ah The New Testament can be
Speaker:divided into four major sections.
Speaker:So starting with history,
Speaker:and that includes Matthew,
Speaker:Mark, Luke, John, and Acts.
Speaker:Then secondly, we have
Speaker:the Pauline epistles.
Speaker:That includes Romans, First and
Speaker:Second Corinthians, Galatians,
Speaker:Ephesians, Philippians,
Speaker:Colossians, First and Second
Speaker:Thessalonians, First and Second
Speaker:Timothy, Titus, and Philemon.
Speaker:Then we have the general
Speaker:epistles, Hebrews, James, First
Speaker:and Second Peter, First, Second,
Speaker:and Third John, and Jude.
Speaker:And finally, we have
Speaker:prophecy, which is say
Speaker:it with me, revelations.
Speaker:So written within each of
Speaker:these four major sections now,
Speaker:you'll find three main styles.
Speaker:And I thought this was
Speaker:really interesting to
Speaker:be broken down this way.
Speaker:So we have story, right?
Speaker:So almost half of the Bible
Speaker:is a narrative because who
Speaker:doesn't love a good story?
Speaker:The Bible is a story.
Speaker:In fact, I'm reading
Speaker:something right now.
Speaker:It's actually called the story.
Speaker:And it is the Bible written
Speaker:in one continuous story.
Speaker:And I love it so much.
Speaker:ah Two, we have poetry.
Speaker:So about a third of
Speaker:the Bible is poetry.
Speaker:An example is Psalms, and
Speaker:they're meant to be sung,
Speaker:prayed, or said aloud.
Speaker:Thirdly, we have discourse, and
Speaker:it's meant to persuade the reader
Speaker:to change their way of thinking.
Speaker:They are conversational
Speaker:and they present an idea.
Speaker:And an example would be
Speaker:Jesus' sermons and then
Speaker:many of the letters that we
Speaker:find in the New Testament.
Speaker:So who actually wrote the Bible?
Speaker:Like who's the author, right?
Speaker:So it was written by
Speaker:different authors.
Speaker:over a span of years
Speaker:from three different continents
Speaker:and three different languages.
Speaker:And it was all inspired by God.
Speaker:It's a very diverse collection
Speaker:of people, including Kings
Speaker:and farmers and fishermen and
Speaker:priests and shepherds, even
Speaker:a tax collector and a doctor.
Speaker:And even then, when all
Speaker:books are put together,
Speaker:they are perfectly arranged.
Speaker:Can you imagine that?
Speaker:They maintain a consistent
Speaker:storyline without ever
Speaker:knowing their book would
Speaker:one be one day be compiled.
Speaker:Only God, only God can do that.
Speaker:So how to read the Bible.
Speaker:So in AD with the printing of
Speaker:the Geneva Bible, we saw the
Speaker:inclusion of both chapter and
Speaker:verse divisions throughout
Speaker:the entirety of scripture.
Speaker:So when you flip in your Bible,
Speaker:for example, to John John is
Speaker:the title of the book, right?
Speaker:John is the title of the book.
Speaker:Three is the chapter
Speaker:and is the verse.
Speaker:So to read and study the Bible,
Speaker:my best advice to you is to
Speaker:pray before you ever even open
Speaker:it and then read it in context.
Speaker:The Bible is one of the most
Speaker:complex books in the world.
Speaker:And again, you will never
Speaker:understand everything about
Speaker:it, but we should develop a
Speaker:passion for studying scripture.
Speaker:We should read it, think
Speaker:about it, and talk about
Speaker:it as much as we can.
Speaker:Studying scripture should become
Speaker:a daily, lifelong endeavor.
Speaker:There is no better way
Speaker:to start your day than
Speaker:with the word of God.
Speaker:And also, once you become
Speaker:a Christian, you have the
Speaker:Holy Spirit within you
Speaker:to give you wisdom and
Speaker:discernment as you read.
Speaker:God wants you to understand.
Speaker:He wants you to
Speaker:know what he meant.
Speaker:It's not meant to be
Speaker:confusing and difficult.
Speaker:He gives us the Holy Spirit.
Speaker:And all we have to do is
Speaker:is pray and ask for that
Speaker:wisdom and discernment
Speaker:and he will give it to us.
Speaker:And he wants you
Speaker:in it, studying it.
Speaker:Like I said, you can't you can't
Speaker:expect to read it one time and
Speaker:feel like you have a grasp on it
Speaker:or that you understand it, but
Speaker:you also can't then put it down
Speaker:and say, well, I tried, right?
Speaker:I'm on my third, and
Speaker:no umm I'm sorry.
Speaker:I'm on my fourth full
Speaker:trip through the Bible.
Speaker:The first one I did on my own,
Speaker:it took me almost two years.
Speaker:And I was so confused.
Speaker:The second, third, and
Speaker:fourth times have been
Speaker:using the Bible recap.
Speaker:And again, I want to
Speaker:invite you, October st, we
Speaker:begin the New Testament.
Speaker:So the the story of Jesus and
Speaker:his life and how God sent him to
Speaker:earth to save us from our sins.
Speaker:I would love for you
Speaker:to do that with me.
Speaker:It's just a small amount of
Speaker:scripture to read each day.
Speaker:And then you listen to
Speaker:the Bible recap podcast.
Speaker:It's usually between
Speaker:six and minutes.
Speaker:And you just do that.
Speaker:And that can be the perfect,
Speaker:like dip your toe into starting
Speaker:your day in the word of God.
Speaker:I would love for you
Speaker:to join me in that.
Speaker:ah So our September memory
Speaker:verse, we have James
Speaker:-So the book is James, the
Speaker:chapter is and the verses are and
Speaker:Consider it pure joy, my brothers
Speaker:and sisters, whenever you face
Speaker:trials of many kinds, because
Speaker:you know that the testing of
Speaker:your faith produces perseverance.
Speaker:So that's all I
Speaker:have for you today.
Speaker:i hope that was interesting.
Speaker:This was a quick minute episode.
Speaker:So listen to it
Speaker:more than one time.
Speaker:There was a lot of information
Speaker:that I gave in there and I hope
Speaker:that you found it interesting.
