Speaker A

Hello and welcome to the Choosing Happy Podcast on this myth bussing Monday.

Speaker A

Right, then, let's have a proper, honest moment.

Speaker A

You know this whole self development chant that find your why, know your why, Your why will change your life.

Speaker A

Well, I'm about to bust that myth wide open because simply knowing your why is nowhere near enough.

Speaker A

And.

Speaker A

And here's why this matters.

Speaker A

Right now, we're living in a world where your sense of self, your deep identity, is under more attack from false messaging, conditioning, and algorithmic programming than ever before.

Speaker A

And if you don't know who you are, your why doesn't stand a chance.

Speaker A

So stay tuned for today's Choosing Happy Podcast.

Speaker A

The self help gurus tell us that once you know your why, you'll be unstoppable.

Speaker A

But here's a truth that most of them skip.

Speaker A

Your why is powerless if the version of you who holds it doesn't believe it's achievable.

Speaker A

Your why can be beautiful, meaningful, inspiring.

Speaker A

But if you don't trust yourself to actually live it, it's just a motivational screensaver.

Speaker A

Your why only works when it feels possible, probable, and aligned with who you actually are at your core.

Speaker A

This isn't about the fantasy future version of you, the superhuman, flawless, eternally disciplined one.

Speaker A

This is about the real you.

Speaker A

The values driven you, the grounded, deep, honest, resilient you.

Speaker A

The you who knows what matters and is willing to show up for it, but also the messy you.

Speaker A

Your why only activates when your identity says, yes, that's me.

Speaker A

I can do that.

Speaker A

This is who I'm becoming.

Speaker A

I had a big realization this week, the kind that shakes you quietly inside.

Speaker A

I was reading this book about a woman taking a full life inventory.

Speaker A

She was looking at her childhood patterns, the beliefs she'd inherited, the way she'd been living on autopilot, the way that she'd made mistakes or was holding on to things that no longer served her.

Speaker A

And she got to this point where she said she didn't want to hold that old story anymore.

Speaker A

She didn't want to be the savior anymore.

Speaker A

She didn't want those old drivers.

Speaker A

She wanted to let it all go.

Speaker A

But when she did, she suddenly didn't know who she was.

Speaker A

She went into the void.

Speaker A

And when I read that, something actually stopped me, because that was me.

Speaker A

I suddenly understood why my why my own life purpose, vision, my mission kept feeling out of reach, why I kept losing momentum, why I wasn't showing up with the commitments I used to, why I wasn't completing, why something always felt a little off.

Speaker A

It Wasn't that my why was wrong.

Speaker A

It was that I didn't believe I was the woman who could actually achieve it anymore.

Speaker A

Life had shifted.

Speaker A

Loss, caregiving, exhaustion, rebuilding over and over again.

Speaker A

I'd outgrown my old identity without realizing it.

Speaker A

And here's the brutal, honest truth I had to face.

Speaker A

My why belonged to an older version of me.

Speaker A

And I was trying to drag it into a new season, a new world where it no longer fitted.

Speaker A

But as soon as I saw it, something opened.

Speaker A

I realized that right now, I'm ready to bloom.

Speaker A

Not in some fictional future version of myself, but into the truer version of me I've actually grown into.

Speaker A

So I started revisiting my why.

Speaker A

Not from the old me who wrote it, but from the woman I am now and the woman I'm choosing to become.

Speaker A

And that has changed everything.

Speaker A

So here's this week's Myth Busters.

Speaker A

Myth number one, knowing your why is enough.

Speaker A

Reality is that identity comes first.

Speaker A

Otherwise, your why has nothing to stand on.

Speaker A

Myth number two, your why should be huge.

Speaker A

The reality is your why should be believable.

Speaker A

If you can't trust it, you won't move toward it.

Speaker A

And myth number three, your why creates motivation.

Speaker A

The reality is, your identity creates the motivation.

Speaker A

Your why simply gives it direction and something to drive towards.

Speaker A

So the real work is this.

Speaker A

Become the version of you who knows your why is achievable.

Speaker A

Feel it in your bones.

Speaker A

Live it in your values.

Speaker A

Act it in your choices.

Speaker A

Your why is a map, but you are the person who has to walk it.

Speaker A

This week's challenge is called Identity Before Inspiration.

Speaker A

I'd like you to write down who is the version of me who absolutely knows my why is possible?

Speaker A

Number two, what values does she live by daily?

Speaker A

Number three, where am I not acting like her yet?

Speaker A

And number four, what tiny action today would bring me closer?

Speaker A

And then before bed tonight, choose one tiny behavior and act as if you are that future version.

Speaker A

Just one decision, one moment and one choice at some point today.

Speaker A

Because once your identity shifts, even by 1%, the whole why finally clicks into place.

Speaker A

And those 1% incremental compounding steps will move you forward.

Speaker A

If something landed for you today, if you had an oh, heck, that's why I'm stuck moment, then do tell me.

Speaker A

Come find me on Choosing Happy podcast in the socials or pop over to Choosing Happy Space.

Speaker A

And remember, your why is only powerful.

Speaker A

When you feel powerful holding it, reclaim who you are, become who you're becoming, and keep choosing happy on purpose, with alignment and with the identity that knows exactly what you're capable of.
