Hello and welcome to the Choosing Happy Podcast on this myth bussing Monday.
Speaker ARight, then, let's have a proper, honest moment.
Speaker AYou know this whole self development chant that find your why, know your why, Your why will change your life.
Speaker AWell, I'm about to bust that myth wide open because simply knowing your why is nowhere near enough.
Speaker AAnd.
Speaker AAnd here's why this matters.
Speaker ARight now, we're living in a world where your sense of self, your deep identity, is under more attack from false messaging, conditioning, and algorithmic programming than ever before.
Speaker AAnd if you don't know who you are, your why doesn't stand a chance.
Speaker ASo stay tuned for today's Choosing Happy Podcast.
Speaker AThe self help gurus tell us that once you know your why, you'll be unstoppable.
Speaker ABut here's a truth that most of them skip.
Speaker AYour why is powerless if the version of you who holds it doesn't believe it's achievable.
Speaker AYour why can be beautiful, meaningful, inspiring.
Speaker ABut if you don't trust yourself to actually live it, it's just a motivational screensaver.
Speaker AYour why only works when it feels possible, probable, and aligned with who you actually are at your core.
Speaker AThis isn't about the fantasy future version of you, the superhuman, flawless, eternally disciplined one.
Speaker AThis is about the real you.
Speaker AThe values driven you, the grounded, deep, honest, resilient you.
Speaker AThe you who knows what matters and is willing to show up for it, but also the messy you.
Speaker AYour why only activates when your identity says, yes, that's me.
Speaker AI can do that.
Speaker AThis is who I'm becoming.
Speaker AI had a big realization this week, the kind that shakes you quietly inside.
Speaker AI was reading this book about a woman taking a full life inventory.
Speaker AShe was looking at her childhood patterns, the beliefs she'd inherited, the way she'd been living on autopilot, the way that she'd made mistakes or was holding on to things that no longer served her.
Speaker AAnd she got to this point where she said she didn't want to hold that old story anymore.
Speaker AShe didn't want to be the savior anymore.
Speaker AShe didn't want those old drivers.
Speaker AShe wanted to let it all go.
Speaker ABut when she did, she suddenly didn't know who she was.
Speaker AShe went into the void.
Speaker AAnd when I read that, something actually stopped me, because that was me.
Speaker AI suddenly understood why my why my own life purpose, vision, my mission kept feeling out of reach, why I kept losing momentum, why I wasn't showing up with the commitments I used to, why I wasn't completing, why something always felt a little off.
Speaker AIt Wasn't that my why was wrong.
Speaker AIt was that I didn't believe I was the woman who could actually achieve it anymore.
Speaker ALife had shifted.
Speaker ALoss, caregiving, exhaustion, rebuilding over and over again.
Speaker AI'd outgrown my old identity without realizing it.
Speaker AAnd here's the brutal, honest truth I had to face.
Speaker AMy why belonged to an older version of me.
Speaker AAnd I was trying to drag it into a new season, a new world where it no longer fitted.
Speaker ABut as soon as I saw it, something opened.
Speaker AI realized that right now, I'm ready to bloom.
Speaker ANot in some fictional future version of myself, but into the truer version of me I've actually grown into.
Speaker ASo I started revisiting my why.
Speaker ANot from the old me who wrote it, but from the woman I am now and the woman I'm choosing to become.
Speaker AAnd that has changed everything.
Speaker ASo here's this week's Myth Busters.
Speaker AMyth number one, knowing your why is enough.
Speaker AReality is that identity comes first.
Speaker AOtherwise, your why has nothing to stand on.
Speaker AMyth number two, your why should be huge.
Speaker AThe reality is your why should be believable.
Speaker AIf you can't trust it, you won't move toward it.
Speaker AAnd myth number three, your why creates motivation.
Speaker AThe reality is, your identity creates the motivation.
Speaker AYour why simply gives it direction and something to drive towards.
Speaker ASo the real work is this.
Speaker ABecome the version of you who knows your why is achievable.
Speaker AFeel it in your bones.
Speaker ALive it in your values.
Speaker AAct it in your choices.
Speaker AYour why is a map, but you are the person who has to walk it.
Speaker AThis week's challenge is called Identity Before Inspiration.
Speaker AI'd like you to write down who is the version of me who absolutely knows my why is possible?
Speaker ANumber two, what values does she live by daily?
Speaker ANumber three, where am I not acting like her yet?
Speaker AAnd number four, what tiny action today would bring me closer?
Speaker AAnd then before bed tonight, choose one tiny behavior and act as if you are that future version.
Speaker AJust one decision, one moment and one choice at some point today.
Speaker ABecause once your identity shifts, even by 1%, the whole why finally clicks into place.
Speaker AAnd those 1% incremental compounding steps will move you forward.
Speaker AIf something landed for you today, if you had an oh, heck, that's why I'm stuck moment, then do tell me.
Speaker ACome find me on Choosing Happy podcast in the socials or pop over to Choosing Happy Space.
Speaker AAnd remember, your why is only powerful.
Speaker AWhen you feel powerful holding it, reclaim who you are, become who you're becoming, and keep choosing happy on purpose, with alignment and with the identity that knows exactly what you're capable of.
