Hello my friend Dr. Brad Miller here with the Daily Bible Refresh.
Speaker AThis is your daily reading of the Bible from a progressive point of view.
Speaker AIn a bit I will read the New Testament lessons selected from the Revised Common Lectionary for this very day.
Speaker AThe reading is understandable.

Speaker AWe pray and are done in less than 10 minutes.
Speaker AIt's all brought to you by voiceofgoddaily.com which is the home of your free personal Bible Study Guide, the ABC1, 23 Bible Study Method.
Speaker APlease join me in my mission of getting the audible word of God into two millionaires a million people by 2028.

Speaker BHere's today's reading and today's reading is From Hebrews chapter 11, verses 32 through chapter 123 from the Message I could go on and on, but I've run out of time.
Speaker BThere are so many more.
Speaker BGideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, the prophets.
Speaker BThrough acts of faith they toppled kingdoms, made justice work, took the promises for themselves.
Speaker BThey were protected from lions, fires and sword thrusts, turned disadvantaged to advantage, won battles, routed alien armies.
Speaker BWomen received their loved ones back from the dead.
Speaker BThere were those who under torture, refused to give in and go free, preferring something better, resurrection.
Speaker BOthers braved abuse, whips and yes, chains in dungeons.
Speaker BWe have stories of those who were stoned, sawed in too, murdered in cold blood.
Speaker BStories of vagrants wandering the earth in animal skins, homeless, friendless, powerless.
Speaker BThe world didn't deserve them making their way as best they could in the cruel edges of the world.
Speaker BNot one of these people, even though their lives of faith were exemplary, got their hands on what was promised.
Speaker BGod had a better plan for us, that their faith and our faith would come together to make one completed world, one completed whole.
Speaker BTheir lives of faith not complete apart from ours.
Speaker BDiscipline in a long distance Race do you see what this means?
Speaker BAll these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on.
Speaker BIt means we better get on with it, strip down, start running and never quit.
Speaker BNo extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins.
Speaker BHuman, keep your eyes on Jesus who both began and finished his race.
Speaker AWe're in.
Speaker BStudy how he did it because he never lost sight of where he was headed.
Speaker BThat exhilarating finish in and with God.
Speaker BHe could put up with anything along the way, cross, shame, whatever.
Speaker BAnd now he's there in the place of honor, right alongside God when you find yourself flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through that would shoot adrenaline into your souls.
Speaker BThat ends the readings.
Speaker BMy friends and I just want to thank you for spending a few minutes with me here today as we discuss this incredible message here.
Speaker BIt's a.
Speaker BThis story here is a.
Speaker BJust a whirlwind of names and stories about courage and losses and resilience.
Speaker BAnd then there's that beautiful coaching line, like a coach would give you if you're involved with athletics or a band or something like that.
Speaker BStrip down, start running, never quit.
Speaker BKeep your eyes on Jesus, keep your eyes on the prize.
Speaker BAnd if we're honest, though, these stories are hard.
Speaker BThey're about violence and torture and homelessness.
Speaker BAnd the writer here doesn't romanticize suffering.
Speaker BInstead, they say the world didn't deserve people who kept choosing faith on the cruel edges.
Speaker BThen they handed the baton, as it were, to us.
Speaker BSo let's consider three points to ponder.
Speaker BFourth is that faith is communal courage, not solo heroics.
Speaker BIt says there, plural, there, faith and our faith come together to make one completed whole.
Speaker BProgressive faith resists the lone wolf narrative.
Speaker BIt's a choir, not a solo.
Speaker BIt's mutual aid, it's public health, it's climate care, it's neighborhood solidarity.
Speaker BAnd my weekly podcast I do with people impacted by cancer.
Speaker BIt's one of the ways I see this.
Speaker BPeople who are together do better.
Speaker BNo one runs this race alone.
Speaker BWe carry each other meals, rides, text, humor.
Speaker BAll these things come together.
Speaker BAnother point to ponder is read the hard stories ethically, protect the vulnerable, pursue justice.
Speaker BHebrews in this passage where he names people who endured brutal harm.
Speaker BA progressive faith refuses to sanctify violence or shame.
Speaker BWe honor bodies, consent, and the truth that God sides with the wounded and the wanderers.
Speaker BThe goal isn't glorifying pain, it's insisting on justice and care so fewer people live on the cruel edges.
Speaker BThat kind of looks like policies and practices that have equity in health care, safe housing in communities where every person's dignity is non negotiable.
Speaker BOne more point to ponder.
Speaker BIt's run light, drop what weighs you down and what builds up no extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins, is what it says here from a progressive lens.
Speaker BThat includes shedding cynicism, indifference and theologies that harm racism, sexism, transphobia, ableism, and adding solidarity, rest, joy, accountability.
Speaker BMy wife and I love to hike in the woods, and sometimes we take longer hikes, but even then we pack light and don't carry a lot of stuff with us so that the trek, the journey is more joyful.
Speaker BThat is what this is all about.
Speaker BLighten the load.
Speaker BHere's an action step for this week.
Speaker BRun light and cheer loud.
Speaker BDrop one weight that is one habit or belief that drains you Dreamscholing isolating harsh self talk.
Speaker BSet a small boundary 10 minutes off the feed A kindred a kinder statement to make.
Speaker BMaybe you take a walk and then add one supporting thing to do.
Speaker BText someone who's in a long race, like someone going through some long term cancer treatment or on a job hunt or someone who's not being able to have a baby, who wants to have one and offer specific help.
Speaker BCan I be helpful?
Speaker BCan I bring dinner?
Speaker BCan I want to take a walk together?
Speaker BCan I sit with you during an appointment?
Speaker BThings that you practically can do.
Speaker BWe're going to come back and have a prayer here in just a minute, but before we do, I want to share with you that we have a great resource for you.
Speaker BIt's called the ABC 123 Bible Study Method.
Speaker BHope that you'll tune into that at our website, voiceofgod daily.com so let's pray.
Speaker BJesus, runner and coach of our souls, teaches to run light and love heavy.
Speaker BWhen the road curves and our courage thins, gather us in the cloud of witnesses, friends and family, caregivers and communities.
Speaker BProtect the vulnerable, heal the wounded.
Speaker BTurn our faith in the public Good meals, shared policies change, hope embodied.
Speaker BBe close to those navigating illness, treatment, grief and long nights.
Speaker BGive a steady breath, gentle humor and the next step to take.
Speaker BKeep our eyes on you True from start to finish.
Speaker BAmen.
