Sam.
Speaker ASo what's going on, everybody?
Speaker BHow's it going, everybody?
Speaker BWelcome to another great episode of the Truth Response.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker BI don't know why I felt like doing it that way, but it was fun.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AYou were doing it in a whisper earlier.
Speaker BYeah, yeah.
Speaker CBefore I hit record.
Speaker BYou never know what's gonna happen, especially when I'm trying out the mics.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CSo.
Speaker ASo I'm Derek.
Speaker BAnd I'm Matt.
Speaker AAnd today we kick off a whole series.
Speaker AA giant series.
Speaker BWe planned a series.
Speaker AA series.
Speaker CIt's a series of a series.
Speaker AWe're serious about the series.
Speaker BI'm sort of serious.
Speaker AAbout the series.
Speaker BAbout the series.
Speaker AAnd we're gonna be talking about Spiritual Warfare.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AIt's been something that's been hitting us a lot lately.
Speaker AIt's been something that's been hitting a lot of people lately.
Speaker BEverybody's getting hit.
Speaker BThey don't know it sometimes.
Speaker ARight, right.
Speaker AVery true.
Speaker AAnd so we're gonna.
Speaker AWe're doing something we haven't done.
Speaker AThat's.
Speaker AWe've got an outline.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BI have papers in front of me now.
Speaker AAnd it doesn't mean we're gonna always stick to them the best, but I'm.
Speaker BGonna try not to.
Speaker AAnd I'm going to hurt him if he tries not to.
Speaker ABut we're going to hopefully do a little bit of the structure for it.
Speaker BI'm a little uncomfortable already with structure.
Speaker BIt's like putting on new pants that aren't broken in yet.
Speaker AWell, you know, it's funny.
Speaker AThat's the whole story of, like, David and Goliath.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ALike, why he didn't use armor.
Speaker BDidn't fit.
Speaker ADidn't fit.
Speaker ACause he hadn't.
Speaker AHe hadn't battle tested them, man.
Speaker AHe hadn't been putting it on daily.
Speaker BAnd they weren't made for him.
Speaker AAnd they just.
Speaker AIt just wasn't.
Speaker AIt wasn't right.
Speaker BNo, it wasn't right.
Speaker AAnd so.
Speaker BBut we're gonna try this on anyway.
Speaker AYeah, we are gonna try this on.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AAnd we're gonna talk about.
Speaker BTry to break it in.
Speaker AWhy We've got some holes in the knees put on our armor.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AWhat that is.
Speaker AWe're actually gonna break it down a lot better than we've ever done on this podcast, that's for sure.
Speaker BMaybe.
Speaker BWell, I mean, the closest we've gotten maybe will be when I kind of run us through Revelation fairly quickly.
Speaker AYeah, I think that's probably the most concise.
Speaker AWe've done it.
Speaker AYeah, I mean, we've.
Speaker AWe've definitely done it.
Speaker AI Think we've done an episode on the armor, but it was kind of like a.
Speaker AI think it was a Spiritual warfare brief thing episode.
Speaker AAnd we touched everything in one go, and it was just brief overview.
Speaker AI wanted to.
Speaker AWe're gonna really hit it.
Speaker AYeah, we're gonna.
Speaker AWe're gonna try something.
Speaker BThis is his baby.
Speaker AAnd if.
Speaker AIf this doesn't.
Speaker CWe're birth to it.
Speaker AIf y' all don't like it after the series is over, we can change it back.
Speaker AIf Matt doesn't like it, we'll change it back.
Speaker AIf you guys love it, we'll probably change it back.
Speaker AYou know, laziness sets in.
Speaker BWell, no, we're gonna see how this goes.
Speaker AWe'll see how it goes.
Speaker AWe'll see how it goes after this series is over.
Speaker AWe'll try for the series and we'll try.
Speaker AAnd if it works out, great, great.
Speaker BBut most importantly, you're gonna have to give us some feedback.
Speaker BWhat's working, what's not.
Speaker BLeave it in the comments.
Speaker BHit us up.
Speaker BWe need to know.
Speaker BWe need to know.
Speaker BWhat did you like?
Speaker AI just gotta know what's working.
Speaker BWe wanna work for you the right way.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker ASo, yeah.
Speaker ASo today it's gonna be a day that will bring it all back to you.
Speaker AAll right.
Speaker ASorry, you took me off track.
Speaker AToday we're gonna talk about, you know, spiritual warfare.
Speaker AWe're gonna kick it off.
Speaker AWe're.
Speaker AIntroduction.
Speaker BIntroduction.
Speaker BToday is called Introduction to Spiritual Warfare.
Speaker AEpisode one of the Spiritual Warfare series.
Speaker ASorry.
Speaker BWe should have done Episode four first.
Speaker CLike Star Wars.
Speaker AEpisode four first, kid.
Speaker AWell, we're gonna name this Episode four and screw everybody up.
Speaker BNo, you're right.
Speaker CWe're not terrible.
Speaker AThat's gonna be episode 207, actually.
Speaker AIt's clearly gonna mess people up.
Speaker CThat's right, it is.
Speaker AAnyways, let's.
Speaker ALet's pray.
Speaker AWe need to pray to start this thing off.
Speaker BSo are we gonna pray and not go into the break?
Speaker AShould we.
Speaker AShould we break first?
Speaker BMaybe I'll just do it first.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AJust pray.
Speaker AWait, no.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ANo.
Speaker BAre you sure?
Speaker CWhat.
Speaker BYou know what you're doing?
Speaker AI don't know what I'm doing.
Speaker BYou know what?
Speaker BI'm just gonna hit the music first, and then we're just gonna roll in.
Speaker BThis is what's gonna happen.
Speaker BYou guys are getting a new experience today, and I don't know if it'll be the next time, but today.
Speaker ASo we're gonna pray now then.
Speaker BWe're gonna pray now then.
Speaker ASo you're gonna start with the music.
Speaker BYeah, music's coming first, then we're just gonna jump right in.
Speaker AAlready happened.
Speaker BIt's already happening.
Speaker AThat was then, this is now.
Speaker AWe'll pray.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BAnybody listening knows that this music is already.
Speaker BWe're having a redundant conversation.
Speaker BIt's already happening.
Speaker AIt's wonderful.
Speaker AIt's wonderful.
Speaker AThis is why you guys hate us.
Speaker ASo I'm not sure why you guys love us, although we've been getting some cool comments, so.
Speaker AThere are reasons we love comments.
Speaker ALove them.
Speaker AThank you so much.
Speaker AKeep them coming.
Speaker AAll right.
Speaker AYeah, I'll pray.
Speaker AI'll pray first.
Speaker BAll right, well, then I must take off my hat.
Speaker BIt is off now.
Speaker COh, look at that.
Speaker BYou got a new haircut.
Speaker AI got a new haircut.
Speaker BThis is also called new haircut.
Speaker ACheck this out.
Speaker BLook at that.
Speaker BHe went short.
Speaker BThat's the shortest he's been in three years, people.
Speaker AThree and a half.
Speaker BThree and a half years, people.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker AI hadn't had a haircut in three and a half years.
Speaker BDoesn't he look styling?
Speaker AAnd it already feels way better, so.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AAnd it's mostly because my hair is healthy now.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AWhereas before it was not, because I hadn't had it touched in so long, so.
Speaker BAll right, here we go.
Speaker AAlthough I did feel the Lord's strength.
Speaker ALeave me.
Speaker ANo, just kidding.
Speaker BOkay, Samson.
Speaker AHey, you can call me that from now on.
Speaker ALord, thank you for another day.
Speaker AThank you for going before us.
Speaker CIn.
Speaker AThe valley of the shadow of death.
Speaker AGod, thank you for preparing that table and using the rod and staff to both protect us and to correct us.
Speaker AGod, I pray that this series on spiritual warfare just allows us all to grow closer to you, but also gives us some practical ways to combat our enemy.
Speaker AThank you for your guidance in this and going before us in this.
Speaker AAnd it's in your precious and holy name we pray.
Speaker AAmen.
Speaker BAmen.
Speaker BAll right, let's get into it, shall we?
Speaker AOh, I can wear my hat backwards.
Speaker BYou can, you can, you can.
Speaker BHe can.
Speaker CHe's got.
Speaker BHe's so versatile now.
Speaker BEverything's changing.
Speaker BYeah, everything's changing in his life.
Speaker AMy life is changing.
Speaker BAll right, ready to go?
Speaker BWe're gonna get on this pony.
Speaker BLet's go.
Speaker AAll right.
Speaker ASo when did you first become aware of the concept of spiritual warfare?
Speaker BWell, I think there is the.
Speaker BThere was kind of two times I was made aware of it.
Speaker BOne was very childlike, and the other one was more serious.
Speaker BThe first one, I was very young.
Speaker BI want to say somewhere around kindergarten age.
Speaker BI'm not sure I remember listening in Sunday school to Them, teach about Satan, teach about the devil.
Speaker BAnd I remember as a kid, like as they're going through it, it became very clear to me this is good versus evil.
Speaker BIt was also the same time where.
Speaker CI was like, I felt the first.
Speaker BTime in my life a calling to do something for good.
Speaker BLike I wanted to be on the side of good.
Speaker BAnd so I was choosing I'm going to be on God's side back then.
Speaker BBut that was the first time I realized there was something good versus evil in the world for sure.
Speaker BLike, I mean, outside of like a story, like you hear stories of bad guys and good guys.
Speaker CThis is like, oh, this is a reality.
Speaker BThis is something that's real in the world.
Speaker BSo that was the first time.
Speaker BAnd then I fully realized it.
Speaker BI would call it more proper when I was about 20 years old, when I.
Speaker BIt was after a period where I kind of fell away a bit and then came back to Christ and started to take a look around and saw good versus bad entities and all the different spiritual stuff at play in a real sense.
Speaker BAnd then I was like solidified that for me that this.
Speaker BYeah, we're back in that battle that.
Speaker CI saw as a kid.
Speaker BBut now this is, this is the real deal.
Speaker AYeah, I.
Speaker AMine started really young too.
Speaker ASo one thing I've learned is that regardless of what you, you believe about, like things like spiritual gifts, like the healing and all of those sorts of things, and the, the actual interaction with supernatural, regardless of your feelings about it, One of the things I've learned is that someone's personal experiences are something you can't really refute always unless you were there.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ASo you have to take it with a little bit of a grain of salt.
Speaker ASo I preface what I'm going to say with that.
Speaker ASo when I was a child, I would see things that were evil, demonic in essence, like as a small child to the point where it kind of freaked my parents out a little bit.
Speaker ASo I was kind of.
Speaker AI've kind of always been aware of that just as even a young, young kid.
Speaker AI mean like four, three or four years old.
Speaker ASo it's, it's always kind of been there, but I didn't understand it.
Speaker AYou know what I mean?
Speaker ALike, that was my first like real like experience with it.
Speaker ABut understanding the concept probably came a little bit later.
Speaker ANot, not a whole lot later, but probably mid elementary days.
Speaker AJust the idea of, you know, memorizing scripture because I was in like Awana.
Speaker AAnd so I did a lot of that.
Speaker AAnd just the fact that the more that I would lean into church, the more things would, would happen, frustrations would come about and you know, the scripture memorization would come in handy.
Speaker ANot to too much sneak peek our, our, you know, series, but, but yeah, so that, that was probably my first.
Speaker AAnd that's, I mean also to preface it with the fact that.
Speaker AOr it's not a preface if it's after.
Speaker ABut to say like, I have kind of just been in church my whole life and have been on the bandwagon.
Speaker ASo for me it's just kind of always been a thing in my life.
Speaker AYou know, like I've wrestled with it and kind of grown in my understanding of it, but it's always kind of been there and a concept I've wrestled with.
Speaker BYeah, I think I had an awareness of spiritual things more than I had spiritual warfare until the warfare part became more clear to me.
Speaker BSo what I mean, like I had similar things where I could feel oftentimes when I was young, God kind of there from time to time and guiding me.
Speaker BAnd then even at points in my life when I was able to look back, sometimes it's easiest to see what God's done versus what he's doing in the rear view mirror.
Speaker BSometimes we see how faith actually worked.
Speaker BBut there was times where I was able to look back and see, even during the time I was falling away, where God was constantly there trying to get my attention at times, trying to help guide me at times.
Speaker BEven though I didn't fully understand everything that was happening.
Speaker BIt's really interesting to see how I was always aware there was something always at play around me.
Speaker BBut the warfare part came really more, like I said, when I was about 20 years old and somebody described the differences in approach.
Speaker BSo difference on how the God would speak to us versus how our enemy would speak to us.
Speaker BAnd when they started to get into that, I was like, oh my goodness, I understand this.
Speaker CThis is very practical.
Speaker BI've experienced this, I know this.
Speaker BAnd, and so yeah, that was really eye opening for me.
Speaker ASo what is spiritual warfare?
Speaker BSpiritual warfare, I mean, in its most basic form, there is a God in this world?
Speaker BWell, no, beyond the world, there's a God that created everything and he has entities working for him.
Speaker BWe call them angels who are out for our protection benefit, give us messages, stuff like that.
Speaker BYou can see that throughout the Bible, Old Testament, New Testament, I think, I.
Speaker AThink before you move on with that, it's important to know that they are more out for God's will.
Speaker BYeah, God's will, of course.
Speaker CI mean, his God will is for.
Speaker BWhat they do is according to what.
Speaker AGod has them will, whether it's good or quote unquote, good or bad for us.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ALike whether we consider it good or bad.
Speaker ASo go ahead.
Speaker BAnd then there's.
Speaker BWe have an enemy, you know, we would say led by our ultimate enemy, which we would label as the devil or Satan, Lucifer, whatever, which name you want to go with.
Speaker BAnd he has.
Speaker BWhen he fell, he took a third of the angels with him.
Speaker BSo he's got people working with him.
Speaker BThere are demons, there's demonic forces in this world that are evil and they are against God's creation.
Speaker BAnd they are not out for our good.
Speaker BThey are out for our destruction.
Speaker BAnd they influence us.
Speaker BThese both sides influence us and are at us all the time.
Speaker BWe see places in the Bible where they do meet and battle.
Speaker BLike for instance, I brought up before we even got started.
Speaker BWe'll have to talk about Daniel, because in Daniel 10 we see the angel saying, yeah, I was held up by a force and I needed help, so I can come to you.
Speaker BAnd so, I mean, we can see in the Bible where this has been playing out forever.
Speaker BAnd it's not stopped.
Speaker BIt's still going on.
Speaker BI mean, there are dark forces trying to influence dark things in this world, things that are evil, that are not of God's plan.
Speaker BAnd then there is what.
Speaker BWhat God has put in place to help battle that and keep his kingdom going.
Speaker BAnd part of that is also us.
Speaker BWe are now carriers of light that get to help in this battle.
Speaker BBut sometimes we go under attack ourselves.
Speaker AYeah, for sure.
Speaker ASo with this series, one of the things that we look to do is to distinguish between myth, superstition and biblical truth.
Speaker AAnd so I want to read three sets of scripture real quick that are going to be key Scripture probably throughout all of.
Speaker AAll of the.
Speaker AThe series.
Speaker ASo if you're jotting it down, if you take notes or whatever, sweet.
Speaker AIf not, it'll be in probably all of the episodes.
Speaker BBut before you get into that real quick.
Speaker BYeah, you know this.
Speaker BI want we should disclaim this a bit.
Speaker BThis is heavy material.
Speaker BThis is.
Speaker BAnd this can be scary.
Speaker BAnd some of the things we're going to talk about are a little unnerving because there is a reality of this around us.
Speaker BI would just hope to give you this.
Speaker BThroughout this conversation, know that we still, no matter what we're going to talk about and the realities of us, the world around us.
Speaker BAnd we have a God that is for us and loves us and has an ultimate plan for us that is beyond all of this.
Speaker BThe battles that we live in in this day and age are just of this day and age.
Speaker BThey are not forever.
Speaker BSo don't lose your hope and sight of the Lord throughout all this.
Speaker BIt's so important.
Speaker BLike I said, this is heavy material and it can be scary.
Speaker BBut know that God is still for you.
Speaker BHe's not against you.
Speaker BAnd if he is for you, then no evil force can destroy you.
Speaker ASo that and I do want to say that today's episode is really an overview glimpse introduction.
Speaker AWe're probably not going to get too crazy heavy.
Speaker AIt's going to be touching on a lot of the things we're going to be talking about throughout the series, probably.
Speaker ASo there is that.
Speaker ABut it's a necessary episode, if that makes sense for the whole thing.
Speaker ASo the first and main scripture that we're going to be talking about is going to be Ephesians 6, 10, 18.
Speaker AIt's a little bit longer, but I'm going to read it real quick.
Speaker AFinally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
Speaker APut on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
Speaker AFor we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Speaker ATherefore, take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the day, in the evil day, and having done all to stand firm, stand.
Speaker ATherefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness and as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace in all circumstances, take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish the flaming darts of the evil one.
Speaker AAnd take the helm of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.
Speaker ATo that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
Speaker ANow that's going to be our key.
Speaker BOne of our main things we're going to be speaking about.
Speaker AAnd then we got 2nd Corinthians 10:3,5.
Speaker AFor though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh.
Speaker AFor the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
Speaker AWe destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.
Speaker BI can do the next one.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker AFirst Peter Five, eight.
Speaker CFirst Peter five, eight.
Speaker BAnd actually, I want to do nine, too.
Speaker BOkay, go for it.
Speaker BFirst Peter five, eight, nine.
Speaker BBe sober minded and alert your adversary.
Speaker BThe devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.
Speaker BResist him firm in the faith, knowing that the same kind of sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world.
Speaker ASolid.
Speaker AAll right, so those are going to be the kind of the overarching scriptures that we are going to be in throughout this series.
Speaker ASo what stands out to you most when reading these verses?
Speaker AWhat stands out, I'll tell you what.
Speaker BStands out to me is the fact that every single verse not only talks.
Speaker CAbout the reality of this battle, but.
Speaker BThat there's a plan for you to get through it.
Speaker BThere is help to get through it.
Speaker AAbsolutely.
Speaker BFull armor of God, you know, the faith keeping strong.
Speaker CThere's a way.
Speaker BWe are not hopeless or lost in this.
Speaker BThere's a plan.
Speaker CThere's a way out, way through.
Speaker BAnd that's a very loving God right there.
Speaker AWell, in 1 Corinthians 10:13, that is the summation of what you're talking about stands out to you.
Speaker AAnd that's.
Speaker AThere's no temptation that's overtaking you, except for that which is common to man.
Speaker AAnd God is faithful and just and will give you a way out.
Speaker ASo, like, that's.
Speaker AYeah, absolutely.
Speaker AHe's already got you.
Speaker AHe knows that you're going to be struggling and going through these things, and so he has prepared a way in which you can be not just, like, able to survive it, but to thrive in the midst of spiritual warfare.
Speaker BLearn how to dance in the rain.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AOr in the fire.
Speaker BEither way, may the fourth be with you.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AMay the fourth be with you.
Speaker BThe one from Daniel, by the way.
Speaker AAnd also with you.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker ASo.
Speaker AYeah, no, that's exactly it.
Speaker AThat.
Speaker AThat is what jumps out at me, too, is that we're not alone in this battle.
Speaker AAnd it's also not each other that we're fighting.
Speaker AAnd we have to keep that in mind, that when spiritual warfare happens, sometimes it looks like another person, but it's not the other person that we're fighting.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AIt's the spiritual forces that are trying to manipulate us and get us off track from God's will.
Speaker BYeah, that's a really hard part.
Speaker BAnd I know we're going to spend a lot of time with that at one point or another, but sometimes it's easy to label the easy thing and not realize that it's not that thing.
Speaker BIt's something Else.
Speaker BYeah, just something harder for sure.
Speaker ASo let's talk a little bit about biblical foundation in historical context.
Speaker AThis is like.
Speaker AI know this is one of your favorite kind of things.
Speaker AYou like that history ish stuff in the midst of it, and you're really good at that.
Speaker AMy brain doesn't quite work that way, but I like talking about it.
Speaker CWell, specifically what it is.
Speaker BWhat you're mentioning is that.
Speaker CI like.
Speaker BTo bring it out and then bring it back in.
Speaker BSo, you know, when I'm looking at anything in the Bible, I love to go and then look at the entire Bible as one single, single work.
Speaker BAnd then I see how everything plays out, and then I go back into that and see how it works within the greater story as well as in its original context.
Speaker BI mean, it makes me a good.
Speaker BIt helps me study the Bible, but it does help me when it comes to teaching the Bible and such like that.
Speaker CSo.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker BSo one of the things I talked about, right.
Speaker BWas Daniel 10.
Speaker AYeah, you mentioned Daniel 10.
Speaker CYeah, yeah.
Speaker BAnd so that one's.
Speaker BI think it's really a great kind of like, look behind the curtain, so to speak, of spiritual warfare, because you have Daniel, who's been praying for 21 days at the beginning of chapter 10, and an angel finally gets there.
Speaker BIt's not given who's the name, but.
Speaker CThere'S a lot with it.
Speaker BI recently preached about this, and there's a couple things you notice right off the bat.
Speaker BNumber one is that the angel is like, hey, since the time you started praying, I was on my way, but I was held up battling this prince.
Speaker BAnd when we see that, we got to understand that's not a physical prince as we see it.
Speaker BIt's not like an angel was battling some human.
Speaker BThis prince would be.
Speaker BAnd we can get into.
Speaker BThere's a lot of different thoughts.
Speaker BThere's a lot of people that think this might be a representation of perhaps Satan himself, because he'd be the prince of this world.
Speaker BBut he's been held up battling this prince for 21 days.
Speaker BFor as long as he was praying, he's been held up.
Speaker BAnd then the Archangel Michael had to.
Speaker CCome and help him so that he.
Speaker BCan come and give the message given.
Speaker BWe also see that when this force comes to talk to Daniel, when this entity comes, Daniel is overwhelmed by this.
Speaker BIt brings him to his knees, quite literally, actually makes him pass out onto his face.
Speaker BIt says that he falls down on his face in like a sleep state.
Speaker BBasically, he passes out.
Speaker BHe feels weakened.
Speaker CThis is a full spiritual force.
Speaker BThat's in front of him, someone with power that's been empowered by God.
Speaker CAnd then this entity has the ability to strengthen him back up.
Speaker BIt helps him get back to his.
Speaker CFeet, strengthens him by touching him.
Speaker CAnd so we can tell you a.
Speaker BCouple things from that.
Speaker BNumber one is that yeah, these battles are happening and we don't even know.
Speaker CSometimes we're praying for something and help.
Speaker BIs already on the way.
Speaker CBut it might be getting held up.
Speaker CYou never know how some of these.
Speaker BThings, like we see things through our focus, not knowing what's going on.
Speaker BAnd in this case, we get to see that.
Speaker BWe get to see, hey, no, I.
Speaker CWas sent to you, but I've been held up.
Speaker CWhich is interesting to think about.
Speaker CThat's a battle.
Speaker BAnd it would make sense considering that Daniel is a.
Speaker BHe's about to receive something amazing.
Speaker BAnd why wouldn't the devil want to not stop that?
Speaker BRight?
Speaker AYou know, that would make a really good rabbit hole conversation.
Speaker AOh yeah, that would make a really great rabbit.
Speaker CWe're gonna have to remember that one of these days.
Speaker CI gotta get on there.
Speaker CBut yeah, so you get that.
Speaker CAnd then also the idea that these entities can strengthen us would also.
Speaker BBut I can also weaken us.
Speaker CAnd so I made a point when I preached on this.
Speaker CWe got to be careful the kind of places we put ourselves.
Speaker BThere's places that we can be more prone to being strengthened by good forces.
Speaker CAnd then on the other side of that, we can put ourselves in places where we can be weakened, where we can become more under attack.
Speaker BMore.
Speaker BAnd just because we're under attack, we also know doesn't necessarily mean that we.
Speaker CHaven'T done anything wrong.
Speaker CAnd sometimes it could mean that we've actually done something right and we're trying to be slowed down or discouraged.
Speaker CBut.
Speaker BAnd we'll get into more of that, I'm sure.
Speaker CBut in this case, yeah, you get.
Speaker BA large behind the scenes context of this.
Speaker CAnd it's pretty fascinating that we actually get that in, in, in part of the Bible.
Speaker ASo that's our, that's our Old Testament, Old Testament, like glimpse.
Speaker AWhat about Jesus?
Speaker AWhat is, what is his.
Speaker AWhat, what did he do with spiritual warfare?
Speaker AHow did he, Jesus, how did he interact with him?
Speaker BI guess it's interesting that we see in the New Testament when Jesus approaches someone with like an evil spirit, for instance, they recognize him right away, unlike humans, which is.
Speaker BI want to point that out.
Speaker CThe spiritual forces of this world recognize who Jesus is at all times.
Speaker BThere is no confusion of who Jesus was.
Speaker CAnytime he approached one of these Forces or entities.
Speaker CThey knew exactly who he was and.
Speaker BWhat he was there for.
Speaker CThey were actually afraid.
Speaker BAnd they would sometimes ask him for mercy.
Speaker BWhat do you want with me?
Speaker CKind of things like, they recognized him and his authority.
Speaker COh, absolutely.
Speaker AThey didn't just recognize who he was, but that his authority, he actually had control.
Speaker CAbsolutely.
Speaker CAnd so that's a big thing, is.
Speaker BThat this is seen again and again.
Speaker BJesus would cast them out of these places.
Speaker BSo his power over the spiritual, even in human form, was astounding.
Speaker CBut he is both human and God, so that is.
Speaker CI mean, it does make sense.
Speaker BBut you see him casting out temptations.
Speaker CYou see him also during his temptation, you see him battling in a similar way, as he tells, we're told, to battle in Ephesians.
Speaker CHe uses scripture for most.
Speaker BWhen he's battling the devil, he uses scripture.
Speaker CThen the devil tries to use scripture against him.
Speaker BStill being used today, by the way, that tactic.
Speaker CAnd then he's corrected.
Speaker CHe takes on the author himself and gets put in his place.
Speaker CWhich is interesting.
Speaker AThat's my favorite scene in.
Speaker AIn the lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is that representation where Aslan and the witch are there.
Speaker AAnd she's like, well, you owe me a sacrifice.
Speaker AAnd he shuts her down with the statement of, you know, don't cite the old magic to me, which I was there when it was written.
Speaker ALike, that's so good.
Speaker AThat's an awesome representation of that.
Speaker AI know it's two different things, but that is literally that interaction, though, where it's like, the devil is like, ah, you owe me, you know, kind of a thing.
Speaker AAnd Jesus is like, yeah, but I was there when it was written.
Speaker AI know what you're doing, and I know how to talk back.
Speaker BSo, yeah, it's very interesting.
Speaker CSo, yeah, so there's a commanding.
Speaker CAnd while he was here, he was able to see.
Speaker CI mean, he had the ability to see the spiritual things around him at all times.
Speaker BAnd he, you know, he interacted with.
Speaker CThem in surprising ways.
Speaker CYou had, like I said, you had them recognizing him.
Speaker BYou had them.
Speaker CHim talking to them, which was interesting, you know, and they answered.
Speaker CIf he asked a question, they answered, which was, you know, which is.
Speaker BThere wasn't any.
Speaker CWith the exception of Satan, who was trying to tempt him.
Speaker CThese demons weren't really.
Speaker CThey weren't up to the challenge.
Speaker CThey didn't take him on well.
Speaker AAnd even to the point of, like, Jesus even had mercy on them.
Speaker BYes, he did.
Speaker AWhich is crazy to think.
Speaker AYeah, like, it's crazy to think about.
Speaker ABut at the same time they were one of his creations, you know, like.
Speaker CYeah, but I mean, there were people that.
Speaker CAnd this is something that a lot of people still talk about today.
Speaker CIt's like, do people still get possessed by demons?
Speaker BIs there still that kind of thing?
Speaker CThere's a lot of talk about are some of the things that we're labeling as some kind of disease or dysfunction.
Speaker BThat we're giving medication for, putting people.
Speaker CAway for, is that something on the spiritual side of things instead of something that needs to be done pharmaceutically?
Speaker CAnd I think there's a lot of really great points for spiritual stuff still out there that people are dealing with.
Speaker AI think it could be.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker AAnd yes, I think it could be.
Speaker CYou know, so I think there's some things.
Speaker CBut anyway, so, yeah, that's the New Testament wise.
Speaker CWhen it comes to Jesus, you see a lot of interaction with that.
Speaker CIt's not necessarily a pulling behind the curtain as it was in Daniel, but.
Speaker BIt'S definitely just confronting it.
Speaker CIt's there, There's a reality of it.
Speaker AYeah, yeah.
Speaker ASo what about the 12?
Speaker AI mean, Jesus ascended into heaven, gave us the Holy spirit, but the 12 in the early church, like, how, what did they do?
Speaker AHow did they deal with some spiritual warfare?
Speaker AAny examples?
Speaker BWe have some casting outs that happened.
Speaker CFrom the apostles and the disciples before.
Speaker CAnd there was even a time where they were not evil.
Speaker CLike when he came down from the transfiguration, they weren't able to cast out.
Speaker BA certain entity and Jesus was.
Speaker CBut throughout the church, there's a lot of spiritual things at play, but you see some positive things.
Speaker CFor instance, when Peter's broken out of jail.
Speaker BYou see.
Speaker CPeople that are obviously being driven for the wrong purposes.
Speaker AWhich is interesting.
Speaker AEven some of that.
Speaker ALike Paul talks about, like, yeah, yo, even if they're doing, you know, this preaching of Jesus for their own selfishness, right?
Speaker ALike in their own vein, like, Jesus is still being preached.
Speaker AIsn't that wonderful?
Speaker AIsn't that crazy?
Speaker AYeah, I love, I love that bit.
Speaker BYeah, that would be in, in Philippians.
Speaker CPhilippians, he talks about that when he was in jail, you know, he's not.
Speaker BMad that people are like, oh, cool, Paul's out of the way, I can go preach now.
Speaker CIt's like, good.
Speaker CYeah, go preach.
Speaker CPeople talking about Jesus, he's like, they're talking about why I'm in here.
Speaker BWhich means they're talking about Jesus.
Speaker BLike, it's an amazing perspective, for sure.
Speaker CPaul talks about a thorn in his side.
Speaker CPaul struggles with some things he wished he couldn't Do That's.
Speaker CI mean, things don't leave.
Speaker CThere are.
Speaker CThere's the persecution of the church and the fact that there's an anger.
Speaker CLike the fact when you can see just an anger towards things that have.
Speaker BAnything to do with Jesus, you know.
Speaker CPeople trying to stop it.
Speaker BIt's all around.
Speaker CAnd there's people that.
Speaker BYou see start to open up to.
Speaker CThe light, to the truth, and in Acts, and then you see people that are just don't want anything to do with it.
Speaker CSo it's kind of.
Speaker CIt's got a whole lot of different experiences.
Speaker CIn fact, I would say if you wanted to look at the book of Acts a little differently, instead of thinking of the Acts of the apostles, you could kind of label it more the.
Speaker BActs of the Holy Spirit and how.
Speaker CThe Holy Spirit moves the apostles and the early church forward and gives them power and helps them to know what to do.
Speaker CI mean, Paul, in his letters, he talks about different things.
Speaker CI will say that there is a kind of acknowledgment of evil forces throughout, not only the letters, but just the Old Testament.
Speaker CI mean, the New Testament, where you have talking about demons, like James talks about demons, even the demons, even they believe.
Speaker CBut it's not about just believing something.
Speaker CIt's about having faith in it.
Speaker BYou have.
Speaker CMan, there's just a lot.
Speaker CIt's hard to.
Speaker CI'm trying to think of too much at one time.
Speaker CI need to slow my brain down.
Speaker AA little bit while you're thinking.
Speaker AOne thing that I think is kind of an interesting.
Speaker AAlso in that category, interesting thing is even in First Corinthians, when Paul's addressing the fact that they've all got this gift of speaking in tongues.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AAnd it's mass chaos.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AThere's order that Paul brings to it so that it's effective.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AAnd that's obviously, the Spirit is moving him to call that into action.
Speaker ABut even a gift that was given to them from the Holy Spirit, that spiritual warfare piece, is the evil side of things that are just.
Speaker AEverybody do what it wants.
Speaker AIt's great.
Speaker AIt's wonderful.
Speaker AYou all have this gift all of you use causes this chaos, and people were turning away.
Speaker AAnd it.
Speaker AIt's interesting that even in those things, the devil and his guys are like.
Speaker AThey'll try to manipulate anything, twist things, just little bits.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AAnd so even in that.
Speaker AI thought that was.
Speaker CI think that still happens today, 100%, without getting too much into it.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CBut there's acknowledgement of just these forces.
Speaker CThere's.
Speaker CI mean, they Talk about it.
Speaker CYou have John talk about the Antichrist, but then the Antichrist, anyone who is against the Lord and doesn't want to believe that or doesn't proclaim that he is who he is.
Speaker CAnd then ultimately, you have the different demonic forces showing up in Revelation.
Speaker CBut if I can go back, actually, we can talk about the fact that even before Christ's crucifixion, you know, it said that Satan entered into Judas.
Speaker CI mean, like, there's a lot of it at play.
Speaker CThroughout the New Testament and even into the apostolic age, the early church age, there are.
Speaker CSome people want us to think that it's gone away.
Speaker CAnd I think that's a.
Speaker CI think the devil wants you to think it's gone away.
Speaker AThat reminds me of another good example with Jesus is whenever Peter, Right.
Speaker AHe tells Peter, get thee behind me, Satan.
Speaker AAnd that's that acknowledgement of.
Speaker AIt's not the person, it's that evil force that is whispering into that person's ear, just playing off of their desires, whether good or bad.
Speaker ASo it's so rampant throughout the Bible.
Speaker CTo study this in great detail would take a long time, but.
Speaker AYeah, well, we're taking a couple months.
Speaker CWe're going to take a little while.
Speaker AWe're going to take a little while to do this, but I think it'll be good.
Speaker AI think it'll be good.
Speaker AAll right.
Speaker AAnd then, like.
Speaker ASo we're going to be talking about the armor of God.
Speaker CYep.
Speaker AAnd we're probably going to be doing an episode for each piece.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AWhich I.
Speaker AThere's truly.
Speaker AThere's plenty of things to talk about within each piece, which is exciting, but never really pulled that apart before, which is going to be cool.
Speaker ABut it draws from Roman military imagery.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AWhat do you know about that, Mr.
Speaker AHistory Guy?
Speaker CWell, I mean, it depends on how you want to end, how it draws from Roman imagery.
Speaker CI mean, when you think about a Roman soldier, how that.
Speaker CWith the things they would put on.
Speaker CIt's their uniform.
Speaker CYeah, I know.
Speaker CAnd it shows a certain.
Speaker CWell, not just propriety, but like a certain authority.
Speaker CYou know, you put on the helmet, you put on the belt, you put on the sandals.
Speaker CEvery.
Speaker CEverything's got its place.
Speaker CIt's all part of that uniform.
Speaker AAnd it's intentional to work together.
Speaker CIt's all intentional to work together.
Speaker CIt's meant to hit the good.
Speaker CAll the right places give you the right kind of shielding.
Speaker CYet still, their uniforms are not only designed to protect them, but also design so that they can strike and move forward as well.
Speaker CWe are Given the ultimate weapon.
Speaker CYou know, there's a lot of the armor.
Speaker CSo you go through it, and we're going to go through it all.
Speaker CBut that is designed for protection.
Speaker AMost of it.
Speaker CRight?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CBut the sword, which is the word of God, that's our weapon.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker COur ultimate weapon.
Speaker AAnything which, as you mentioned, Jesus and the devil when he's being tempted.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CAnd that's why it's so important.
Speaker CAnd we're gonna flesh that out.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CTo make sure you're using it properly.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASo.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker ASo why is spiritual warfare relevant today?
Speaker AWhat are some, like, modern expressions of spiritual opposition?
Speaker CModern expressions of spiritual opposition.
Speaker CInteresting way of wording that.
Speaker CWell, I mean, I think you see many things at play.
Speaker CI mean, you see what some would label as the decay of societal things.
Speaker CFor instance, like our constant.
Speaker CThere's groups in society that are constantly, like, degrading how we view each other.
Speaker CThere's.
Speaker CThere's people wanting people to hate each other, to divide each other.
Speaker CYou have the loss of compassion for your fellow people where people are told, hey, if it doesn't have anything to do, then who cares?
Speaker CAnd that goes as far as who cares if they die?
Speaker CWho cares if they never had a chance?
Speaker CWe can look at abortion and see that many people have gotten to the point where they've accepted that they don't need to care about it at all.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CYou know, and that's.
Speaker CThat's an amazing thing, is that he.
Speaker CThat's how crafty our enemy is, that he can slowly, over time, start to make us unsensitive to things that we should be sensitive to.
Speaker CAnd so we see a lot of that in this world.
Speaker CI would say personal struggles.
Speaker CYou see a lot of people in ministry would be good people to talk to, especially anyone that's been in it for any period of time.
Speaker CPretty long.
Speaker CIt's wild.
Speaker CYou know, my wife and I, we experienced back many, many, many, many years ago, before I entered into ministry.
Speaker CI felt the need to be rebaptized.
Speaker CI was christened as a baby, but I felt the need to do it again because it wasn't my choice the first time.
Speaker CAnd that's nothing against my parents or anyone who had any.
Speaker CThat is nothing against them.
Speaker CI think they did the right thing.
Speaker CI think they were trying to follow God the best they could.
Speaker CAnd I don't say anything against that at all.
Speaker CBut this was my time to say, I'm fully in.
Speaker CLike, I've already accepted Jesus in my heart, my faith, which is the first and foremost the most important thing But I was getting moved in a very emotional way when I'd see somebody get baptized and I could feel God pulling at my heartstrings.
Speaker CYou need to go back in.
Speaker CYou need to do this.
Speaker CYou need to do this.
Speaker CAnd, you know, Sadie and I did it together.
Speaker CI got baptized, then I helped baptize her.
Speaker CAmazing moment of time.
Speaker CBut after that, things got hard for a while.
Speaker CIt was weird.
Speaker CWe had this, like, dark cloud over us.
Speaker CAll kinds of things were happening.
Speaker CAnd it was when we took a step back and thought about the perspective, like, yeah, okay, we chose a side.
Speaker CAnd, you know, we're getting some feedback on that.
Speaker CNegative feedback from the person that doesn't like to lose.
Speaker CHe has no choice, but, you know.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker CBut, yeah, so it's wild to experience it on that.
Speaker CBut I've experienced it after good things have happened where it's just.
Speaker CIt's wild how suddenly what seems like bad things just start happening.
Speaker CAnd I've felt that before something happens where it's almost as if I'm trying to be distracted, deterred from the thing that I need to do.
Speaker CIt's amazing.
Speaker CAnd things that you shouldn't.
Speaker CLike, for instance, the first time I preached here, right?
Speaker CI preached for a year, every day.
Speaker CWell, not every day, every Sunday.
Speaker CI was an every Sunday preacher, and I come here, and I hadn't preached here before.
Speaker CAnd I think I was under attack because the enemy was trying to use my insecurities.
Speaker CSome of the things I've been through and really make me nervous about it.
Speaker CThe things I was focusing on was like, okay, well, I've never preached here, so are they going to respond to me as if I was trying to be tricked into saying, nobody wants to hear what you have to say.
Speaker CThe other thing is that I had gone through some spiritual hurt, and so there was just doubts in myself.
Speaker CI'm like, I know I can do this.
Speaker CAnd it's weird when I just kept pushing forward and pushing forward.
Speaker CAnd then the day I went to preach, I remember it was like I just left it behind.
Speaker CYeah, I just walked away from it and onto that platform and just started preaching.
Speaker CAnd then it was like it wasn't there at all.
Speaker CYou know, not really.
Speaker CIt was a whole different level.
Speaker CAnd I feel like every time I go up there, I get a little better at it, where I'm like, yeah, I'm not gonna listen to that.
Speaker CI can do this.
Speaker CI think sometimes he tries to stop us from doing something that's gonna be good and impactful.
Speaker CAnd I think sometimes he Gets mad after we've done something like that.
Speaker CAnd so you got to protect yourselves at all times.
Speaker CThat's definitely, I would say in this day and age, I definitely have experienced a lot of that personally.
Speaker CBut I think that there's just a lot.
Speaker CI mean, we go back to society, we can tell.
Speaker CSometimes you can look around.
Speaker CIt doesn't take much to notice that some stuff's not right in this world.
Speaker CNo matter where you are on political issues, the world's a messed up place.
Speaker CAnd you start to ask yourself, why are certain people like this?
Speaker CSome things we just know are inherently, we know are evil.
Speaker CAnd you ask yourself why?
Speaker CWhat kind of person?
Speaker CAnd sometimes it's not about what kind of person is, what is pushing these kind of people to do these kind of things.
Speaker CAnd because there's a story behind it all.
Speaker ASure.
Speaker AOne thing I do want to caution some, some issues, dangers you can get into when looking into studying spiritual warfare is obsessing over the demonic.
Speaker AThat's one, one of the two big ones.
Speaker AOne of the, one of the things that I equate this to is the, that conversation with the, the, the guy from the FBI who, you know, does deals with forgeries.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AAnd money.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd they asked, you know, do you study all these other bills?
Speaker AAnd he said, no.
Speaker AThe key is knowing the real one.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AAnd so like the, the key to it is knowing Jesus.
Speaker ANot necessarily knowing and understanding all the things about the demons.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ABut rather, rather knowing Jesus and knowing the truth for who he is.
Speaker ASo don't get too crazed and too obsessed with that rabbit hole of learning about demonic spirits.
Speaker ABut also don't go the opposite direction and just completely ignore the spiritual reality of the spiritual world altogether.
Speaker ABecause I think we do a really good job of going through life in this country just ignoring the spiritual world.
Speaker CIgnorance sometimes can be bliss, but in this case it's dangerous.
Speaker CIt's dangerous.
Speaker CAnd the thing is that, because if we continue, if we ignore it altogether and we become kind of numb to it, like we don't really pay attention to what's going on at all.
Speaker CWe don't know then where we're being led.
Speaker CYou know, you can be easily find yourself getting mad and frustrated and have no idea how you got there.
Speaker CYou know, someone's like, why are you so mad?
Speaker CAnd you don't know.
Speaker CYou don't know why you're so mad.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CWhy is this affecting you like this?
Speaker CI don't know.
Speaker CI don't know why this is affecting me like this.
Speaker CYou can try to think of, well, I think it's this.
Speaker CBut then when you think about that thing that you just said, it's like, that really shouldn't even have gotten me there.
Speaker CBut then our pride jumps in and goes, well, I'm going to stick to it.
Speaker CNo, no, you don't.
Speaker CWe are being influenced all the time.
Speaker CAnd the way that, like, I think you're right.
Speaker CThe focus is Jesus.
Speaker CThe focus is Jesus.
Speaker CStay focused on him.
Speaker CLearn more of him, his word, his truth.
Speaker CAnd it'll be easier to decipher what isn't true.
Speaker CIt's easier to find the lies of the devil when you know that they're lies and not the truth that you've been studying.
Speaker CSo, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker CWhen I went through.
Speaker CI went through a period of counseling and one of the.
Speaker COne of the exercises that my counselor gave me one time was, okay, I want you to write down all the things that.
Speaker CAll the thoughts that you have, all the negative thoughts that you've been having about da, da, da, da, da, what happened.
Speaker CYou know, these are the things that makes you think.
Speaker CThis is the things that makes you worry about.
Speaker CWrite it all down.
Speaker CAnd so I did.
Speaker CAnd then he's like, now let's go through it and let's talk about the truth.
Speaker CEvery single one versus, you know, that's how.
Speaker CThat's a lie.
Speaker CAnd what's the real truth?
Speaker CAnd it's amazing when you can do that and actually just dispute it all, like, oh, well, I'm not good enough.
Speaker CGod's already put you in this.
Speaker CGod says you are.
Speaker CYou know, oh, well, it's this.
Speaker CWell, this is what God says.
Speaker CThis is what Jesus says.
Speaker CThis is the real truth, you know, and that goes good with identity, purpose, failure, defeat, all that stuff, you know, all of it.
Speaker ADude, I know you haven't looked at this, the series, like, outline yet because, you know, I just send it over.
Speaker ABut, like, you're hitting it right on the freaking head.
Speaker ABut I mean, that's what I'm saying, though, is like, I'm excited because it ties so well into this next couple of weeks.
Speaker ASo.
Speaker AOkay, so I wanna.
Speaker AI wanna jump to this whole common misconceptions.
Speaker ALike, a lot of people think every single thing that's bad that happens to me is spiritual warfare.
Speaker AAnd I don't think that that's the truth.
Speaker CI think sometimes you play stupid games and win stupid prizes.
Speaker ASure, no, there is that, but then there's also just things that happen that negatively affect us.
Speaker ALike a volcano erupting is not necessarily spiritual warfare.
Speaker AI'm not saying it can't be, but I'm saying like, you know what I mean?
Speaker ALike a wildfire happening.
Speaker ALike it's not always spiritual warfare.
Speaker AThere are natural challenges that we have to go through in life.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker CSometimes though.
Speaker CSo my wife was, been great since she and I got together.
Speaker CShe's been wonderful at helping me when I start to allow circumstances to mess me up so much.
Speaker AYeah, What'd she say?
Speaker AWhat's that thing she does?
Speaker AShe has like the.
Speaker CSo for instance, like if I get held up or if I'm in traffic one time my tire went flat and she's like, well, you don't know what God could have been allowed.
Speaker CHe might have allowed this happen.
Speaker CBecause if you would have been on the road right now, you could have been in an accident or something.
Speaker COr sometimes he needs to be held up because you're getting ready to have a conversation that you need to be there for.
Speaker CIronically, at the end of last summer, Sadie and I, we flew up back up north and then while we were up there, we were trying to make our way back to the airport and we had borrowed my mother in law's car and her one tire kept going flat.
Speaker CIt was like we, it was flat and we put air in it and then we took it to get plugged and they plugged it.
Speaker CI was like, alright, we're good to go.
Speaker CAnd yet it was still losing air.
Speaker CSo I was like, alright, let's try a can of the fix a flat.
Speaker CRight, let's try that.
Speaker CAnd I thought it worked for a while and then it went down again and we were struggling with this thing all the way to the airport and we lost so much time that we were, you know, of the day.
Speaker CLike I don't even know if I think there was other stuff we were gonna hope to do.
Speaker CBut because of all this, our day changed and we ended up getting to the airport a different time.
Speaker CWe wanted to and we were trying to take it in stride but it was frustrating.
Speaker CThat being said, we get to an air, we get to the airport and then we haven't eaten.
Speaker CSo it's like, well, let's eat at a restaurant here at the airport up in Baltimore, Washington Airport, bwi.
Speaker CAnd she's like, I've eaten here before, let's go in here, okay.
Speaker CAnd it's like she hadn't thought about it, she just happened to see it and then was like, oh, we should go there, okay.
Speaker CAnd we sat down disable and didn't think much of it.
Speaker CAnd then next thing you know, this Young girl sits and her person she was with, I can't remember, his boyfriend, husband, I don't know, sat down at the next table over.
Speaker CAnd the girl, I see her looking over and I notice that she's talking about with her person, this nun that is on the other end of the restaurant.
Speaker CAnd she's just kind of talking about it.
Speaker CAnd somehow it sparked a conversation where we're talking about like some big deal God things.
Speaker ACool.
Speaker CAnd the girl started crying and I wasn't sure at first how to take it.
Speaker CAnd she's like, I needed this so bad.
Speaker CI've been trying to talk to him about this.
Speaker CYou know, I know I haven't been going to church like I should, and I've been stressing about it.
Speaker CAnd for her, us being there at that exact time was a God ordained moment.
Speaker CAnd perhaps that was, you know, all those.
Speaker CI looked at it when Sadie and I left the restaurant to go to our plane.
Speaker CYou know, we were like, you know, maybe that's why all this happened today.
Speaker CMaybe it was all so that we could talk to that young lady.
Speaker CAnd I can't even remember the conversation, honestly, much of it.
Speaker CBut I know it was impactful for her in a way that she was outwardly expressing and thankful for.
Speaker CAnd I just thought, wow, I couldn't have orchestrated that, but maybe God did.
Speaker CAnd the thing about it is, is that when I looked at it further, I'm like, you know, I planned this trip this long ago.
Speaker CGod's been planning for it this whole time.
Speaker CBut it went even further than that because the reason that we went to that restaurant is because of a business trip that Sadie had gone on when we still lived up that way and they ate there.
Speaker CAnd that was even like a year prior to that.
Speaker CI'm like, how long have you been planning this conversation, Lord, where all these pieces are going to go in place?
Speaker CAnd by the way, the business trip is not something that Sadie normally did.
Speaker CIt was kind of weird that they asked her to go, but she went anyway.
Speaker AThat's so wild.
Speaker CGod is always at work.
Speaker CSo when we talk about spiritual warfare, God has always got his hand in play.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker CSometimes we see these things happening and we start questioning.
Speaker CWe ask them, are these bad things?
Speaker CSometimes they're not bad things.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CSometimes they're inconvenient.
Speaker CYes.
Speaker CSometimes they're frustrating, but sometimes the purpose behind them is so beautiful if we're willing to see it.
Speaker ASo true.
Speaker AYeah, so true.
Speaker AAll right.
Speaker AAnother one is misuse of spiritual warfare language, blaming the devil for everything.
Speaker AVersus taking responsibility for some things, right?
Speaker CYeah, yeah.
Speaker CThe old childhood.
Speaker CThe devil made me do it.
Speaker AThe devil made me do it.
Speaker AIt was all the devil's fault.
Speaker AIt's funny because what's it James.
Speaker AJames talks about, you know, it is by your own evil desires that you are led away and enticed.
Speaker AIt gives way to sin and death.
Speaker CIt is from a person's heart of what comes out of them.
Speaker CJesus talked about that.
Speaker CThere is such a reality of that sometimes we are the ones that made the compromises.
Speaker CWe made the choice.
Speaker CWere we tempted?
Speaker CMaybe.
Speaker CIn some cases, probably.
Speaker CBut we still made the choice.
Speaker CAnd now we have to live with these choices.
Speaker CThe responsibility is to recognize the choices that we've made, the places we've put ourselves, and to, you know, learn from it, make amends where we need to make amends and move forward.
Speaker CYou know, there's a lot of the culture we live in, especially with these young kids.
Speaker CI don't know how it happened, but, like, everything is not their fault.
Speaker CI've heard from the youth today, and this is a student ministry pastor.
Speaker CWhen you ask something or you question something about these kids, they're never at fault.
Speaker CThey're willing to blame anything, anything on anyone else.
Speaker CIt's so funny how quick they are to do it.
Speaker CIt's actually amazing when one of these children takes responsibility and goes, oh, no, that was me.
Speaker CI respect that so much in them.
Speaker CBut it's amazing how quick they will just be like, oh, well, it's because of this and.
Speaker COr it's because of that, or, you didn't explain it right.
Speaker COr they're trying to just anything to take responsibility.
Speaker CAnd it's funny because it also leads to labeling.
Speaker CWell, you know, that's this, because this is this, this, and you're this kind of person.
Speaker CAnd, you know, anything that they don't like, they take as an attack.
Speaker CAnd anything that they.
Speaker CIt's wild, man, the stuff that's going on.
Speaker CAnd I'm like, where did you get this?
Speaker CI mean, some people want to say social media, I think, probably had a large part to do of it.
Speaker CBut, like, social media didn't start with them.
Speaker CIt started with somebody else.
Speaker CBy the way, millennials, you have a large part in this.
Speaker CBut they're not the only ones either.
Speaker CEverybody's had a part in allowing the culture that we live in to be so toxic, where it's avoidant and just blaming and labeling and, oh, my goodness, 100%.
Speaker AThe last one that I want to briefly mention is, is the concept of you know, we know that spiritual warfare can be dramatic, but it's not always dramatic.
Speaker AIt's very often very subtle.
Speaker CMost of the time, I would say the majority.
Speaker AMost of the time, yeah.
Speaker AIt sometimes result, the results of it can end up being dramatic, but the warfare that gets us to that battle end is very subtle along the way.
Speaker AA lot of times.
Speaker CI think the vast, vast majority of it is not only subtle, but it snowballs to where it starts lightly, where we start to entertain these things whether we know we're doing it or not.
Speaker CAnd we allow it to kind of build on us.
Speaker CIt's kind of one of those things, like if you've ever found yourself just a little irritated, but instead of recognizing it and dealing with that, you just allow it to linger.
Speaker CAnd then you hear those little voices go, isn't that irritating too?
Speaker CIsn't that irritating too?
Speaker CAnd then, you know, you, it just starts to snowball and you get into a really bad place.
Speaker CThere's so many ways that we could have gone.
Speaker CI could go about that.
Speaker CThere's so many ways of it, but it's.
Speaker CYeah, it's oftentimes it's such little things that we don't even realize that we've kind of let ourselves go to.
Speaker ACS Lewis has procured or had procured.
Speaker AProcured.
Speaker AHow does that word go?
Speaker AAnyways, had gotten his hands on these letters between two demons, right?
Speaker AAnd a lot of people are like, ah, he just wrote this thing.
Speaker AAnd I like to choose the more fantastical idea that he actually did find them, right?
Speaker AIt's called the screwtape letters.
Speaker AAnd one of the things that just always stood out to me about it was something so simple where it's basically this elder demon, this higher ranking demon talking to a lower ranking demon, which we don't, I mean, we don't understand all that necessarily, but the concept still rings true.
Speaker AHe's teaching this demon, this younger demon, how to, or lesser demon, how to like, how to really be in spiritual warfare against us.
Speaker AAnd he's, he basically tells him it's the more subtle approach.
Speaker AYou don't need to like get him into an argument over his beliefs in God.
Speaker AYou just gotta remind him that he's hungry sometimes and tell him, ah, you can talk about that later, you know, remind him, we'll get back to it, let's go get some food, you know, and it's sometimes it's just that subtle, like little thing.
Speaker AAnd so I think throughout the series we will, we will start learning how to take our thoughts captive and to Be practicing the things that will keep us on guard to all the little things.
Speaker AAnd I don't know, it's.
Speaker AIt's pretty, it's pretty crazy, the matching up of the.
Speaker AWhat you were talking about a lot and, and the things that I see us doing.
Speaker COh yeah.
Speaker CAnd I will say this though, that you also gotta be careful because there's people that start to believe other lies which are interesting in itself.
Speaker CThey become kind of extremists and they seem like they're good extremists, but they become extreme.
Speaker CThey put burdens on people.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker CWhat I mean is that like I call them New Testament legalists, but they will go in when it comes to spiritual warfares.
Speaker CThey treat people like if you.
Speaker CYou're not saved, you might be going to hell if you haven't taken capture all your thoughts.
Speaker CThey put such a burden on people about this stuff.
Speaker CYou know, the funny thing is that sometimes you go into spiritual attacks because you are doing what God wants you to do, do.
Speaker CAnd they forget these things sometimes.
Speaker CYou know, we're trying.
Speaker CIt's just wild.
Speaker CI've heard them say things along the lines of, well, if you, this is.
Speaker CAs a believer, you got to have everything done.
Speaker CYou gotta, you gotta keep your thoughts captive.
Speaker BYou.
Speaker CYou've got to be able to control your options, have self control and control what you're doing and all this stuff.
Speaker CAnd you know, if you were, you know, if you were really in Jesus, these things wouldn't be happening because you would have been.
Speaker CYou must.
Speaker CAnd it's very Job's Friends.
Speaker AI was going to say exactly what I was going to say.
Speaker CIt's very Joe's Friends.
Speaker CWell then you.
Speaker CIt's must because you did something wrong.
Speaker CIt reminds me also of John 9 when they're like, hey, this guy was born blind.
Speaker CHe's like, well, who sins is he blind for?
Speaker CAnd he's like, nobody sins.
Speaker CLike this is so the glory of God can be shown and then he heals them.
Speaker CLike it's, it's amazing sometimes that people take this and then you have.
Speaker CI.
Speaker CSometimes I think it's demonic forces going, okay, yeah, that's the law.
Speaker CYou're not going to do it.
Speaker CYou're not.
Speaker AThat was legalism even of the Old Testament, man.
Speaker AThere was no reason they had so many crazy amounts of laws was because it's like we're going to build walls so that we cannot sin.
Speaker AAnd yet that.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CWhen you hear people talking like that, should we be trying to get better?
Speaker CAbsolutely.
Speaker BEvery day.
Speaker CIs that going to Be a longer process for some people.
Speaker CYes, but God, let him keep working on your life, man.
Speaker AThat's something we will talk about at some point in the series too, is that idea of the perfect, trying to be perfect versus relying on God.
Speaker ACouple things as we wrap up here.
Speaker AThere is an important balance that we have to remember to maintain and that is vigilance and peace in Christ.
Speaker ASo we are going to be talking about that a little bit.
Speaker AWe're going to be talking about the armor of God this series.
Speaker AWe are going to next episode next week is going to be meeting the enemy, right?
Speaker AWe're going to figure out some of this and learn a little bit about who our enemy actually is and remember to meditate on Ephesians 6, 10, 18 during this series.
Speaker AThat's going to be the key set of scriptures that we're going to be learning through.
Speaker AThere's a bunch of scripture throughout that we have lined up, but that's going to be the key one that we're going to be hitting on.
Speaker ASo final thoughts.
Speaker ADo you have any final thoughts before we wrap up?
Speaker CFinal thoughts whether you're going to ride through this series with us or not, Stay prayed up.
Speaker CNumber one way you can battle spiritual warfare as we go through this, but also just in your daily life is be proactive with your prayer.
Speaker CStay prayed up.
Speaker CJust if you put God first, it puts you in much better place all the time.
Speaker CStay prayed up.
Speaker CAllow him to lead you through not just your day but everything that you're looking to do.
Speaker CAnd that includes coming through this series with us and I hope you do.
Speaker ASo reflection.
Speaker AQuestion for you guys is how might a greater awareness of spiritual warfare change how you approach your daily life?
Speaker AI want you guys to think about that.
Speaker AWe invite questions at the end of the series.

Speaker AOh, yeah.
Speaker CMaking you afraid.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CMaybe it's glorifying God that somebody's trying to stop you from doing.
Speaker CThink about that.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ABecause we are here to help each other.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AAnd that's.
Speaker AThat's how we grow.
Speaker AIt's gonna be one of the things we talk about, especially during our shield.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AWhen we're talking about the shield and being able to.
Speaker ATo lock shields with one another.
Speaker AThat is very much the start of that and getting out there.
