Speaker:

Marvin: Hey folks, it's Marvin Cash, the host of the Articulate Fly,

Speaker:

Marvin: and we're back with another Roosh Report with the man himself,

Speaker:

Marvin: Brendan Roosh. Brendan, how are you?

Speaker:

Brendan : I'm doing well, heading home from the river, and sunburns, good day of popper

Speaker:

Brendan : fishing, can't ask for much more in the summer.

Speaker:

Marvin: Yeah, probably what you need, you know, liquid IV and to get rehydrated to do

Speaker:

Marvin: it all over again tomorrow, right? Right.

Speaker:

Brendan : Yeah. Just, uh, you know, forward speed yourself a gallon of water on the boat

Speaker:

Brendan : and, uh, continue and get out. It's usually a good program.

Speaker:

Marvin: Yeah. So, you know, it's interesting. I looked at your weather and I mean,

Speaker:

Marvin: you're just kind of in that summer dog day, you know, rut, right?

Speaker:

Marvin: Like, I mean, a cool day for you is probably 92 now.

Speaker:

Marvin: Um, you know, what are you seeing out on the water?

Speaker:

Brendan : Um, oddly enough today, uh, the morning bite did not exist.

Speaker:

Brendan : There was a, I would attribute it to feel like a weird pressure system uh zero

Speaker:

Brendan : mile per hour winds um but yeah i mean typically i would say get out early um

Speaker:

Brendan : the last few days the bite's been fine in the morning but it seems around,

Speaker:

Brendan : i don't know when that that sun really starts to bake

Speaker:

Brendan : the water the fish is they're going nuts um damsel flies

Speaker:

Brendan : are coming out crayfish bite has

Speaker:

Brendan : been really hot um on fly

Speaker:

Brendan : end gear you know throwing some soft plastics here and there with some buddies

Speaker:

Brendan : and uh hammering hammering fish on those but um today i'm gonna walk back my

Speaker:

Brendan : blue popper statement from a couple

Speaker:

Brendan : weeks ago because i tied on yellow and yellow stayed on all day well.

Speaker:

Marvin: There you go and so i would imagine too like if you're fishing early and late

Speaker:

Marvin: like you know my understanding is you know you you want really bright sunlight

Speaker:

Marvin: when you fish bugs because you want to kind of get those hard shade lines and

Speaker:

Marvin: kind of put the fish in the shade is that kind of how it works where you are as well.

Speaker:

Brendan : Um yeah i mean right now there's no water in the shade lines for the most part,

Speaker:

Brendan : uh so we're targeting boulders or ledges mid-river um which are you know full nuking sun,

Speaker:

Brendan : so yeah i mean shade lines unfortunately right now are mostly out there are

Speaker:

Brendan : some banks where Or, you know, I'll be like, okay, there's a foot and a half

Speaker:

Brendan : over there. So we'll go hit that shade line.

Speaker:

Marvin: Gotcha.

Speaker:

Brendan : But lots of mid river stuff. Yeah.

Speaker:

Marvin: So is that kind of what pushed you, you know, back to maybe fishing a little

Speaker:

Marvin: bit more subsurface stuff than the last time we spoke? Yeah.

Speaker:

Brendan : Yeah, I mean, I had a day with clients and they wanted to use some spinning

Speaker:

Brendan : gear and just seeing the fish react to bottom bouncing baits in such a positive way.

Speaker:

Brendan : That kind of got me thinking, you know, fly on the bottom.

Speaker:

Brendan : And it's obviously, it's never going to be, you're never going to catch as many

Speaker:

Brendan : fish on a fly as you would with a soft plastic, a lead jig that's rattling off the bottom.

Speaker:

Brendan : But, you know, they're certainly looking for crayfish right now.

Speaker:

Marvin: Yeah, very, very cool. And then, you know, got two questions for you.

Speaker:

Marvin: Uh, one of them is from your old buddy, uh, backcast bow, and he wanted to,

Speaker:

Marvin: uh, get your thoughts on your all time favorite sight fishing experience for small mouth.

Speaker:

Brendan : Man like most of the ones that stick out to me are

Speaker:

Brendan : ones that never ate but bo and

Speaker:

Brendan : i had a cool experience probably like four or

Speaker:

Brendan : five years ago um he came up and

Speaker:

Brendan : i think he brought a couple packs of white claws and

Speaker:

Brendan : he was talking all this smack about taquiles

Speaker:

Brendan : and uh how they they fish them in the in virginia so we're we're floating down

Speaker:

Brendan : this creek it's super low and sight fish you know spotted fish and this fish

Speaker:

Brendan : like did a 180 looked at the tequila and i think he moved it maybe,

Speaker:

Brendan : 10 feet before the fish actually committed but yeah i mean that one stands out pretty uh,

Speaker:

Brendan : pretty drastically in my mind as a successful side fishing eat and it was with

Speaker:

Brendan : my boy beau so that That was a good, a cool one.

Speaker:

Marvin: Yeah. It's interesting. I know. I wonder if he's, uh, he fishes with Matt Miles.

Speaker:

Marvin: Cause I know Matt Miles is a big, uh, big fan of the big copper tequila.

Speaker:

Brendan : Yeah, that's a good guess. He does fish with Matt Miles quite a bit.

Speaker:

Marvin: Yeah. Well, there you go. Uh, yeah, he's actually, you know,

Speaker:

Marvin: grew up basically in my hometown, uh, just outside. So yeah, small world.

Speaker:

Marvin: Uh, and, and here's another one for you from, uh, until they included us and

Speaker:

Marvin: he was like, Like, you know, basically it was from the Instagram stories like,

Speaker:

Marvin: dude, what's up with the smallmouth and yellow flies?

Speaker:

Brendan : I don't really know what's up with the yellow fly thing.

Speaker:

Brendan : I think there's like an aura around the flies that are yellow and orange and

Speaker:

Brendan : they just kind of glow and that like kind of stained water,

Speaker:

Brendan : like not dirty by any means, but kind of green.

Speaker:

Brendan : Like you'll just see a hue glowing around the fly um and it's also really fun

Speaker:

Brendan : like from a visual standpoint to watch that glow and then it seems like it's

Speaker:

Brendan : a little bit more of a drastic lights out when the fish eats um but yeah i mean

Speaker:

Brendan : i i just think it's a color that the fish don't mind eating,

Speaker:

Brendan : and it allows you to fish the fly better because you can see it so well.

Speaker:

Marvin: Got it and it's completely uncorrelated to uh to yellow tops right,

Speaker:

Marvin: you know i think so yeah it's not correlated to yellow henley's uh or anything

Speaker:

Marvin: like that uh not correlated yeah not correlated at all and so you know i.

Speaker:

Brendan : Know i'll make you say that.

Speaker:

Marvin: No senya did not make me say that it just kind of came to me because i was feeling

Speaker:

Marvin: it's been a long day i'm feeling kind of impish um but uh and it's it's yellow

Speaker:

Marvin: it's not mauve it would be the point I was trying to make.

Speaker:

Marvin: So, you know, folks, we love questions on the Articulate Fly.

Speaker:

Marvin: You can email them to us or DM us on social media.

Speaker:

Marvin: If we use your questions, I will send you some Articulate Fly swag,

Speaker:

Marvin: and then we're going to enter you in a drawing for some kind of a really cool

Speaker:

Marvin: kind of potpourri of stuff from Brendan.

Speaker:

Marvin: We've got log jam stuff, we've got housefly stuff, and we've got ruchangling

Speaker:

Marvin: stuff. So keep the questions coming.

Speaker:

Marvin: And, you know, Brendan, I know you're probably probably doing log jam your adoring

Speaker:

Marvin: fans can find you there but you want to let folks know kind of you know what

Speaker:

Marvin: date you have open how they can find you and book you and all that kind of good stuff.

Speaker:

Brendan : Yeah yeah i've got um a handful of dates the second half of august um and through

Speaker:

Brendan : september and if you want to get out and do uh do some bug fishing before the bug bite stops i think,

Speaker:

Brendan : you know it's been a very a very steady bite so far this summer um and you can

Speaker:

Brendan : reach out at Brendan Roosh on Instagram,

Speaker:

Brendan : and my seriously neglected Facebook page, Roosh Angling.

Speaker:

Brendan : And yeah, I may or may not be on Log Jam the next couple of weeks just due to

Speaker:

Brendan : scheduling conflicts, but typically Tuesday nights, 8.35-ish PM,

Speaker:

Brendan : tying flies and or heckling my buddies tying flies on Log Jam Live.

Speaker:

Marvin: Yeah, 8.35-ish on the dot, right?

Speaker:

Brendan : Yes, exactly.

Speaker:

Marvin: There you go. Well, listen, folks, as I always say, you owe it to yourself to

Speaker:

Marvin: get out there and catch a few. Tight lines, everybody. Tight lines, Brendan.

Speaker:

Brendan : Take care, Murray.
