Let's get into our message.

Our reading for the day from John 14:23 31 reading from the Message Because a loveless world, Jesus said, is a sightless world.

If anyone loves me, he will carefully keep my word and my Father will love him.

We'll move right into the neighborhood.

Not loving me means not keeping my words.

The message you are hearing isn't mine.

It's the message of the Father who sent me.

I'm telling you these things while I'm still living with you.

The friend, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you.

He will remind you of all the things I have told you.

I'm leaving you well and whole.

That's my parting gift to you.

Peace.

I don't leave you the way you're being being left feeling abandoned or bereft.

So don't be upset, don't be distraught.

You've heard me tell you I'm going away and I'm coming back.

If you love me, you would be glad that I'm on my way to the Father.

Because the Father is the goal and the purpose of life.

I've told you this ahead of time, before it happens, so that when it does happen, the confirmation will deepen your belief in me and I'll not be talking with you so much, much more like this.

Because the chief of this godless world is about to attack.

But don't worry, he has nothing on me, no claim on me.

But so the world might know how thoroughly I love the Father, I am carrying out my Father's instructions right down to the last detail.

Get up.

Let's go.

It's time to Leave here.

Wow, what a powerful reflection here with Jesus.

Profound insights about love and presence and peace and times of change.

Let's talk about some points to ponder.

The first one is love as active engagement.

Jesus connects love directly with action and awareness, not just emotion.

When he says a loveless world is a sightless world, he's suggesting that love opens our eyes to reality in new ways.

This challenges us to move beyond seeing love as just a feeling and recognize it, and as a way of engaging with the world that transform how we perceive everything around us.

Second point is divine presence in the neighborhood.

The imagery of God, quote, moving right into the neighborhood presents a radical view of divine presence.

This isn't about some distant God, some distant deity, but about sacred presence in our everyday lives.

This democratizes spiritual experience.

We don't need special buildings or ceremonies to encounter the divine.

It's present in our ordinary spaces and daily interactions.

The third point is about peace as resistance.

Jesus offers peace not as passive tranquility, but as parting gifts in the face of upheaval.

When he says, quote, I don't leave you the way you're used to being left, he's introducing a new paradigm of peace that stands firm even in the face of systems that promote fear and abandonment.

This peace becomes an act of resistance against the, quote, chief of this godless world.

Here's your action step for the day.

I invite you to practice neighborhood spirituality.

That is, choose one regular location or community.

It might be a local park, it might be the downtown area of your community, or the coffee shop or grocery store, some street corner where people gather.

Spend a few minutes there, maybe 15 minutes, just being fully present with whatever is going on right there.

Now, notice things.

Notice the people.

Notice the interactions that take place.

The needs, the wants, the fears, the hopes, the dreams, the beauty.

Consider how God is there.

Consider how divine presence might be manifesting in that ordinary space.

You might even want to journal about it or record something about it, about the changes you perceive right there in.

In your community, in your neighborhood spirituality.

Sometimes we get caught up searching for you in grand gestures and sacred spaces, forgetting that you've moved right into our neighborhood.

Help us to open our eyes to see love at work.

In our ordinary moments when we feel overwhelmed by change or uncertainty, remind us of the peace you've left with us, not as an escape, but as a source of strength and resistance.

Grant us the courage to love actively, to see clearly, and to trust deeply in your continued presence in our lives and communities.

Walk with us as we discover you each in unexpected places and faces.
