Welcome to the Real Life Weight Loss Podcast, where we cut through the confusion and get down to the truth about what really works for real people.
Speaker AWhen it comes to losing weight, having incredible health, and a body that you love, we believe that losing weight is really about gaining life, doing things you never thought you could, having renewed confidence, and enjoying your body more than ever.
Speaker AI'm your host, Corey Little.
Speaker ANow let's get to it.
Speaker AHello, my friend.
Speaker AWelcome back.
Speaker AThis is episode number 374.
Speaker AAnd today we're going to answer the question, have I been lying to you for years and years and years?
Speaker AI hope not, because, man, that wouldn't be good for me or for you.
Speaker ASo we'll get into that question.
Speaker AToday's entire episode was inspired by a different podcast episode that I was listening to from someone else and something was said and it really made me think and I was like.
Speaker AAnd I had to dig into what I've been telling you.
Speaker AAnd so we'll answer this question of that's related to my honesty.
Speaker AHave I been lying to you all these years?
Speaker ABut before we get started, may I ask for a small Christmas gift?
Speaker AWould you be willing to take 60 seconds to rate and review this podcast if you've never done it before?
Speaker AOh my gosh, I would be absolutely honored.
Speaker AOr if you maybe rated it in the past, I'm pretty sure you can actually do it again.
Speaker AApple Podcasts will allow you to rate and write a review.
Speaker AYou can write whatever you'd like to about the podcast.
Speaker ASpotify only allows you to rate it to click between, you know, I guess one and five stars.
Speaker AHopefully not one star.
Speaker AHopefully it's a little better than that.
Speaker ABut you can't write a review on Spotify, so it's even quicker than on Apple podcast.
Speaker AAgain, I would be honored if you would take the time to do this.
Speaker AI know you're busy.
Speaker AI know it's just a super busy time of the year.
Speaker AIt would mean the world to me and I just want to say thank you in advance.
Speaker ANow, with all of that being said, let's get into today's episode.
Speaker ASo what is it that I have been lying to you about for years and years?
Speaker AWell, after some thought, I don't really think it's a lie.
Speaker ABut I'll let you be the judge.
Speaker ALet me explain and then you can come to your own conclusions.
Speaker AAt the end of nearly every episode, I always say, I know you can do it, even if you don't believe in yourself.
Speaker AThat's okay.
Speaker AYou can borrow my belief.
Speaker ASome people have even contacted me, written an email, or shot me a message.
Speaker AAnd they say that it's like their favorite part of every.
Speaker AEvery episode.
Speaker AAnd that's awesome.
Speaker AI love that.
Speaker ABut recently, I felt really challenged about that part of the episode, about what I say at the end of nearly every episode.
Speaker AI heard a guy on a different podcast say, I know greatness is coming your way.
Speaker AI know it.
Speaker AAnd at first I was like, heck, yeah.
Speaker AI really appreciated it.
Speaker AAnd I was like, oh, my gosh, I love that he's really, you know, being supportive and encouraging people.
Speaker ABut then I thought about it a little bit more, and it bothered me.
Speaker AWhy?
Speaker ABecause, well, he doesn't know what's coming your way.
Speaker AHe doesn't know me.
Speaker AHe doesn't know you.
Speaker AHe doesn't know what life's going to bring us.
Speaker AAnd then I thought about what I say every episode, and I was like, crap, am I doing the same thing?
Speaker AAm I just blowing sunshine up people's skirts?
Speaker ALike, am I just throwing out empty, hypey motivation?
Speaker ABecause that was never my intention, But I had to really take a hard look, have a hard think on it, and really just ponder it.
Speaker AAnd after some thinking, no, I don't believe that's the case at all.
Speaker AI feel like what I say is different, and I want to explain why right here and right now.
Speaker AAnd this is not just me, like, putting this out there to make myself feel better.
Speaker AI think there's a huge teaching point that you can take home with you.
Speaker AI think there's something that could.
Speaker AI mean, we're in early December right now.
Speaker AA lot of you will be motivated to, you know, press forward and lose a bunch of weight in the new year, set some New Year's resolutions.
Speaker AI believe what I share in this episode could be an unbelievably powerful for you heading into the new year.
Speaker ASo why do I feel like what I say is different?
Speaker AHere's the thing.
Speaker AI don't know what's headed your way.
Speaker AI don't know what life's bringing you.
Speaker AI don't know if you will be successful or not.
Speaker AI don't know if you'll lose weight.
Speaker AAnd right here is a perfect place for the But Corey section of the podcast.
Speaker AWe haven't had one of those in a while.
Speaker ABut Corey, dude, hold on.
Speaker AYou always tell me that you know I can do it.
Speaker AYes, exactly.
Speaker AI know you can do it.
Speaker ABut full, brutal honesty.
Speaker AI don't know if you will.
Speaker AAnd that's not because I doubt you.
Speaker AIt's just true.
Speaker AI Don't know you.
Speaker AI don't know if you'll do it.
Speaker AThere's a gigantic difference between can and will.
Speaker ACan means you have the ability and potential to be successful.
Speaker AWill means you're doing it.
Speaker ACan communicates possibility.
Speaker AWill communicates certainty.
Speaker AI would love to communicate certainty, yes, I would love it, but I can't.
Speaker AIt would just be a lie.
Speaker AI can't speak on your life with certainty.
Speaker AIt's your life, it's not mine.
Speaker AThe definition of will is expressing inevitable events.
Speaker AWow.
Speaker AInevitable.
Speaker ALike it is happening.
Speaker ASo if I say you will be successful, I know it well, that's just disingenuous.
Speaker AIt's just not true.
Speaker AIt's a lie.
Speaker AI don't know if you will or will not be successful, but here's what I do know.
Speaker AYou can.
Speaker ASo, yeah, absolutely, I believe you can be successful with weight loss and with your body.
Speaker AI know you can do it, but I don't know if you will.
Speaker AI don't know if you'll take action and if you'll take action consistently enough.
Speaker AAnd that's the key, my friends.
Speaker AHere's the truth.
Speaker ANothing changes if nothing changes.
Speaker AAnd so someone can say on a podcast, I know great things are coming your way, and I know you're going to be successful, and I know you're going to achieve all your goals.
Speaker AAnd that's.
Speaker AThat's great.
Speaker AAnd that may make us feel really great in that moment, because we really want someone to believe in us.
Speaker AAnd here's what I want you to know.
Speaker AI believe in you.
Speaker AI believe in the possibility and incredible potential that you have.
Speaker ABut I'm not going to sit here and tell you I know what's happening for you.
Speaker AI have no idea.
Speaker ABecause here's the thing.
Speaker AYou know why?
Speaker AAnd this should be one of the most empowering things ever.
Speaker AHere's why.
Speaker AI don't know what's coming.
Speaker ABecause it's all in your hands.
Speaker AIsn't that incredible?
Speaker AIsn't that powerful?
Speaker AIt's all in your hands.
Speaker AIt's all within your power.
Speaker AIt's all your choice what you do or don't do, what you eat or don't eat, if you hire a trainer or if you join a gym or if you join a weight loss group or sign up for a weight loss program, or if you work with me or if you work with some other coach or if you go buy diet book or if you just keep going back to the same thing that you've done that hasn't worked for you in the past, whatever, all of these things, these are all your choices.
Speaker AAnd so while it may seem discouraging at the surface or maybe overwhelming, please push.
Speaker APlease let those.
Speaker ALet those subside and realize, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Speaker AThis is actually a beautiful thing because it means I have the power.
Speaker AThat's exactly what it means.
Speaker AMy friends, I don't know if you will.
Speaker AI don't know if you'll take action, but I know you can.
Speaker AIf we want to be successful with anything in life, we have to take action.
Speaker AWe must take action.
Speaker AWe must make it happen.
Speaker ASo do I believe you can?
Speaker AHeck, yeah.
Speaker ADo I believe you will?
Speaker AThat's up to you.
Speaker AI hope so.
Speaker ABut I can't control that, and I can't promise that.
Speaker AAnd this is why whenever one of my clients transforms their life and their body in amazing ways, and then they start to thank me, oh, my gosh.
Speaker AI'm absolutely just honored.
Speaker AI'm just honored by their words.
Speaker ABut I always stop them.
Speaker AI'm like, whoa, hold on.
Speaker AYou know what's coming.
Speaker AAnd everybody in my coaching group, they know.
Speaker AThey're like, oh, boy.
Speaker AI always say to them, no, no, no, no, hold on, wait.
Speaker AI'm throwing all the credit right back to you.
Speaker AYou did it.
Speaker AYou took action.
Speaker AYou stayed connected.
Speaker AYou learned from your mess ups.
Speaker AYou kept going.
Speaker AYou stay consistent over time.
Speaker AYou checked in each and every week.
Speaker AYou showed up on coaching calls when you needed help, you refused to give up.
Speaker AYou did it.
Speaker AYou get all the credit.
Speaker AWe're just the coaches, the tour guides, if you will.
Speaker ALike, we can coach and teach and support and be there for you like crazy, but we can't take you anywhere.
Speaker ALike, think of a tour guide, right?
Speaker AIf you go to visit someplace and you hire a tour guide, you're hiring a tour guide to take you to certain places.
Speaker AThey can't take you anywhere that you don't want to go.
Speaker AThat's called kidnapping.
Speaker ASo the only way that I can force you to do something is if I kidnap you.
Speaker AI'm not going to do that.
Speaker AI like freedom.
Speaker AI don't want to go to prison.
Speaker AI don't want to do that.
Speaker AThat's kidnapping.
Speaker ASo like a tour guide.
Speaker AI'm a tour guide, not a kidnapper.
Speaker AI can't force you.
Speaker AI can't take you anywhere that you're not willing to go.
Speaker AYou have to do it.
Speaker AYou have to choose to go there.
Speaker AAnd this.
Speaker AThis kind of reminds me of a funny story.
Speaker AMy wife was walking her sister's dog one time, and the dog is a.
Speaker AIt's a mastiff breed.
Speaker AIt's.
Speaker AI've heard it pronounced two different ways.
Speaker AIt's either Cane Corso or cane Corso.
Speaker AAnyways, it's a.
Speaker AIt's a large, very strong, very strong dog.
Speaker AAnd it's really sweet and friendly.
Speaker AAs long as it knows you, I guess.
Speaker ABut my wife, who barely outweighs the dog, was taking the dog on a walk, and I guess the dog just decided it smelled something it liked and it just wanted to plop down somewhere and she couldn't get it to move.
Speaker AShe had the leash, the harness strapped around, like its chest area, and she had the other end of it.
Speaker AAnd we were like, where's she at?
Speaker AWhat's going on?
Speaker AAnd so we.
Speaker AWe walked out to find her and we just started taking videos with our phone because it was hilarious.
Speaker AShe was stuck.
Speaker ALike, she couldn't do anything.
Speaker AShe would pull and lean and tug and jerk and the dog wouldn't move.
Speaker ALike, she could not go anywhere until the dog decided to move.
Speaker AThe point is, the dog had all the power and it was going to go when it wanted to, where it wanted to, how it wanted to.
Speaker AAnd while she thought she was walking the dog, the dog was really walking her.
Speaker AShe couldn't move the dog.
Speaker AAnd it's the same.
Speaker ALook, I know this sounds terrible because you're the dog in this story.
Speaker AI'm not saying you're a dog.
Speaker AOkay, here.
Speaker ABut here's what I am saying.
Speaker AI can't take you nor any other coach or any other trainer or any other weight loss program or weight loss book or app or anything.
Speaker ANone of them, none of us can take you anywhere you're not willing to go.
Speaker AWe can coach you and support you and teach you and help you develop strategies and help you overcome mental hurdles.
Speaker AAnd that's what all the things that I try to do with people.
Speaker ABut ultimately, it's up to you, my friend.
Speaker AIt's up to you.
Speaker AOf how will you put that into play in your life?
Speaker AWill you put it into play?
Speaker AHow will you show up?
Speaker AWill you show up for yourself consistently?
Speaker ASo as we wrap up today, I want to share a few things that in some ways might seem overly simplified or just cliche, but they're all 100% truth.
Speaker ASo let's do it.
Speaker AHere we go.
Speaker AMaybe some of these will hit home for you.
Speaker AYour body and health is headed somewhere.
Speaker AIn my coaching group, we call this the default future.
Speaker AYou have a default future.
Speaker AThis.
Speaker AThis means it's a future, is a future you that is going to happen.
Speaker AYou're headed to a certain place in your life with your body and your health, you have a default future that you're headed toward, and you will arrive there.
Speaker ASuperman's not sweeping in to save you.
Speaker AYou will arrive there unless you change your trajectory.
Speaker AIn other words, wonderful, magical things don't normally just happen out of the blue.
Speaker AIf you want something different, you have to do something different.
Speaker AAs I said earlier, nothing changes.
Speaker AIf nothing changes, you're on a certain trajectory, you're headed somewhere.
Speaker AAnd I don't say this to be discouraging.
Speaker AI just say this to be really honest.
Speaker AAnd if you want to change, you absolutely can change.
Speaker AIf you want to change your body, you can do it.
Speaker ABut here's the thing.
Speaker AIf you want to change your body, well, you must change your lifestyle, your food habits, your exercise habits, your exercise frequency and consistency, all of these things.
Speaker AAnd very likely, if you've been listening to this podcast, you know this already.
Speaker AYou probably need some change between your ears as well.
Speaker AThat's okay.
Speaker ABut it's just important to understand that if you want to change your body, you must change in multiple ways.
Speaker AAnd it doesn't have to be really fast or really severe and hard and strict, but over time, some things have to change.
Speaker AIf the outside of you changes, there's a good chance the inside of you probably changes as well.
Speaker AThat includes your brain and your habits, the way you think and the way you act.
Speaker AAnd if you just keep doing what you've been doing, well, you're gonna keep getting what you've already got.
Speaker ASo is it doable?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AHeck, yeah, man.
Speaker ACan you do it?
Speaker AAbso freaking lutely.
Speaker AYou can do it.
Speaker AAnd here's why I say that.
Speaker ABecause I've seen so many people, I've coached so many people through the years who thought they couldn't, but they just said, you know what?
Speaker AI'm just going to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
Speaker AI'm just going to keep taking steps, and if I mess up, I'm just not going to quit.
Speaker AI'm just going to keep going.
Speaker AAnd then they do it, and they're like, wow, I never thought I'd be here.
Speaker AAnd sometimes it even takes a little refresher, a moment to go, hey, think about where you were six months ago.
Speaker AThink about where you were five months ago.
Speaker AThink about where you were a year ago.
Speaker AOh, my gosh.
Speaker AWow.
Speaker AYour life is radically different.
Speaker ASo, my friends, is it doable?
Speaker AYes.
Speaker ACan you do it?
Speaker AHeck, yeah.
Speaker AWill you do it?
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker AThe ball is in your court.
Speaker AI hope that this has been helpful.
Speaker AI hope you'll share it with someone and maybe the two or three of you will discuss it.
Speaker AThat's just the best way to get the most out of a teaching like this or podcast episode.
Speaker AAnything that you read or hear.
Speaker AAnd I hope, if you haven't already, that Maybe you'll take 60 seconds to give me a little Christmas gift to rate this podcast on either Spotify or Apple.
Speaker AAnd then, last but not least, I'm going to keep saying it because I believe it and it's true.
Speaker AI hope you always remember and you never forget that there's so much more to you than a number.
Speaker ASo don't let the scales get up in your head and dictate your emotions for the day or dominate your headspace.
Speaker ANo, there's more to you than that.
Speaker AAnd yes, you can do it.
Speaker AEven if you've tried and failed in the past, your past doesn't determine your future.
Speaker AEven if you've tried and failed, it's okay.
Speaker AYour future can be different.
Speaker AYou absolutely can do it.
Speaker AWill you do it?
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker ABut I do know this.
Speaker AI know.
Speaker AAnd I believe that you can.
Speaker AAnd you can borrow my belief if you need to.
Speaker AYou keep coming back.
Speaker AI'll keep doing my best to put out episodes that are helpful and that move you in the direction of more belief.
Speaker AOkay, my friends.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker ATake care of yourself.
Speaker AI'm so honored you spent some time with me today.
Speaker AGod bless.
Speaker ABye bye.
