I'm Todd Miller of Isaiah Industries manufacturer
Todd Miller:Specialty Metal Roofing.
Todd Miller:Welcome to Construction Disruption, the show that explores what's new,
Todd Miller:what's next, and what's working in the worlds of construction and remodeling.
Todd Miller:Today we're going to dig into some great topics as we visit with a
Todd Miller:young man who is making his way in the world of metal roofing.
Todd Miller:Our guest is Micah Boak.
Todd Miller:Micah has over 10 years of industry experience.
Todd Miller:He works with sales and marketing for Metallion Industries, a
Todd Miller:metal roofing manufacturing supplier based in Este, Oregon.
Todd Miller:Micah, welcome to Construction Disruption.
Todd Miller:It's a pleasure to have you here with me today.
Micah Boak:Thank you Todd, and your podcast disrupted my life this year.
Micah Boak:It was listening to your podcast that inspired this whole gratitude
Micah Boak:campaign, and that's why I do this mindset video every Monday morning.
Micah Boak:So I'm humbled and honored to join you.
Todd Miller:We're gonna encourage folks to check out what you you're doing
Todd Miller:'cause it's some great stuff, Micah.
Todd Miller:And, uh, we'll get your contact information later and we'll also
Todd Miller:put that in the show notes and hopefully folks will check that out.
Todd Miller:Well.
Todd Miller:Kind of get us started.
Todd Miller:Tell us a little bit about Metallion Industries, maybe the products you
Todd Miller:produce, the areas, the customers you serve, um, what you guys are all
Todd Miller:about out there on the West Coast.
Micah Boak:Regional role, former small to midsize.
Micah Boak:We covered the general typical panels for.
Micah Boak:Ag commercial, residential, steep slope, low slope.
Micah Boak:An interesting thing we did this year is we switched our 24 gauge,
Micah Boak:uh, just the normal colors, the 24 gauge, not the the metallic ones.
Micah Boak:We switched 'em to a true mat finish away with the glossing with the mat.
Micah Boak:So we'll see how that goes.
Micah Boak:But most of our businesses within a hundred miles of Portland and the
Micah Boak:lion's share of that is contractors.
Todd Miller:Very cool.
Todd Miller:Well, that trend toward matte finishes has certainly been a growing thing
Todd Miller:that we're seeing across the country.
Todd Miller:No doubt about it.
Todd Miller:Well, I'm kind of curious, I mean, you've been at this for a while.
Todd Miller:Um, what do you like about metal roofing and, you know, what is it?
Todd Miller:That makes you feel good when you go out and talk to customers
Todd Miller:and prospects, uh, about the products offered by your company.
Micah Boak:It simply lasts.
Micah Boak:The paint's gonna fade right some decades down the road, but the roof is still gonna
Micah Boak:perform and well beyond 50 years often.
Micah Boak:So that that means you can have dependability, sustainability,
Micah Boak:and longevity without having, because you see, I used to do
Micah Boak:asphalt shingle sales for a bit.
Micah Boak:And that really made me happy to go back to me metal again.
Micah Boak:'cause it's frustrating.
Micah Boak:You see those warranties touting 50 years when real world, world
Micah Boak:performance does, does not not stand up.
Micah Boak:So it's, it's about having something that you can represent
Micah Boak:with confidence and deliver on the promises you make to your customers.
Todd Miller:That's very cool and it, it just reminded me of something.
Todd Miller:So just this.
Todd Miller:Morning I had a home or ac actually as a contractor I was connecting with on
Todd Miller:Facebook on one of the roofing groups.
Todd Miller:And you know, she is looking at a metal shingle roof, uh,
Todd Miller:from the Victorian era era.
Todd Miller:So it's actually on a house that was built in the 1890s.
Todd Miller:Uh, it's the original roof.
Todd Miller:And the question she asked me was, how long is this thing gonna last?
Todd Miller:Um, because you know, of course as a roofing contractor, I think she kind
Todd Miller:of wants to be able to replace it.
Todd Miller:And I'm like, well, you gotta look over how it's doing.
Todd Miller:But you know, there are lots of those roofs from that late 18 hundreds, early
Todd Miller:19 hundreds that I still see performing in, in functioning just fine these days.
Todd Miller:Well, so you've spent your entire career in sales, like you said, some
Todd Miller:metal, some asphalt, some other areas.
Todd Miller:Um.
Todd Miller:What do you really enjoy about being in sales as a career?
Micah Boak:It's the challenge first off, and then the face-to-face interaction.
Micah Boak:Sales for me didn't truly begin till I stepped into outside sales.
Micah Boak:So in a sense, I've only been one year into this adventure and most of my time
Micah Boak:was inside sales, which was great for learning the technical side of things.
Micah Boak:But I love outside sales 'cause it pushes me outside of my
Micah Boak:comfort zone, like right now.
Micah Boak:Right?
Micah Boak:So with that there's growth.
Micah Boak:And just the other week I had a guest, uh.
Micah Boak:Jonathan Metcalf, he was on my GRTs video.
Micah Boak:And by the way, grats is short for gratitude driven people
Micah Boak:like you and I, Todd, right?
Micah Boak:So
Todd Miller:Absolutely.
Micah Boak:Jonathan said, struggle.
Micah Boak:He's thankful for struggle.
Micah Boak:That stuck with me.
Micah Boak:Struggle produces strength.
Micah Boak:So if you're not struggling, you're not growing, and it's as simple as that.
Micah Boak:The mindset makes a big difference.
Todd Miller:Oh, that's cool.
Todd Miller:Yeah, it reminds me of, uh, I think it's in the first chapter of James,
Todd Miller:I believe, uh, a little scripture there about how, uh, you know, those
Todd Miller:struggles teach us perseverance.
Todd Miller:And perseverance builds our faith, builds our strength.
Todd Miller:Cool stuff.
Todd Miller:My son did a, his valedictorian speech a couple years ago in high school
Todd Miller:and was focused on that scriptural passage, and I was like, where in
Todd Miller:the world did you get that from?
Todd Miller:That is awesome.
Todd Miller:Anyway, um, well, speaking of that, I know that faith, um,
Todd Miller:is a big part of your life.
Todd Miller:Can you tell us maybe a little bit about your faith journey and, um,
Todd Miller:how, how does that impact your career?
Todd Miller:What does that mean to you as you go out in, in the world of sales?
Micah Boak:The best part about my job is that my boss founded the company 26.
Micah Boak:Years ago on the motto, you see right behind me, live every day for Jesus.
Micah Boak:And it's inspiring to have a leader who exemplifies that high standard.
Micah Boak:And it personally, cha okay, first off, it's in the Pacific
Micah Boak:Northwest, it's counter-cultural.
Todd Miller:good
Micah Boak:That's okay.
Micah Boak:'cause it, it challenges me every day to take up my cross and follow my Lord.
Micah Boak:What I mean, let's flesh that out.
Micah Boak:What I mean is when there's painful things, when there's
Micah Boak:struggles, when there's thorns or nails, I'm to embrace them.
Micah Boak:And let's think about the example that Jesus gave because he, he
Micah Boak:came with a distinct mission and he poured himself into serving, and
Micah Boak:finally he gave his lifeblood so you and I can be redeemed from death.
Micah Boak:I know that went really deep fast, but.
Micah Boak:It's incredibly good news and I want everyone to consider the life changing
Micah Boak:faith that's available through Jesus.
Todd Miller:That's cool.
Todd Miller:Hey, we will take sharing the gospel anytime.
Todd Miller:Thank you very much.
Micah Boak:Well, can I, uh, quick faith journey?
Micah Boak:So I'll, I'll keep it quick.
Micah Boak:Give the real quick version.
Micah Boak:So I was in college and I was miserable in my hypocritical
Micah Boak:Christianity freshman year.
Micah Boak:I had biology and I learned about evolution.
Micah Boak:And not that I had it, no, but I learned a little deeper and I just decided to
Micah Boak:trade in my dead faith for no faith.
Micah Boak:And at first it was a big relief 'cause I was no longer drugging
Micah Boak:Christ's name through the mud.
Micah Boak:But it six years just got worse and worse and worse.
Micah Boak:And thankfully the Lord didn't give up on me.
Micah Boak:In 2013, I started to search him out or first it was just something just.
Micah Boak:Something solid, something trustworthy, and yeah, after months of looking
Micah Boak:and searching, I decided, yeah, Jesus is king and I need to bow the knee.
Micah Boak:Now everyone's journey's different and I, I wish mine was more like the possible
Micah Boak:Pauls, but instead it's been pretty slow progress and sometimes backwards progress.
Micah Boak:Thankfully, the Lord's been merciful.
Micah Boak:I have patient.
Micah Boak:Encouraging brothers and sisters at my local church, so it's just a
Micah Boak:blessing that I can be where I am.
Todd Miller:I think your story is common to a lot of Christians in their faith.
Todd Miller:You know, you know, maybe they were raised in the church but they went away
Todd Miller:to college and things kind of changed.
Todd Miller:And, uh, you know, as I was coming out of college, I probably would've
Todd Miller:called myself agnostic, to be honest.
Todd Miller:Um, had someone ask me.
Todd Miller:Um, but.
Todd Miller:You know, I, I think God builds those stories into us and as he constantly
Todd Miller:pursues us and brings us back to him, that just gives us the story
Todd Miller:to go out and share with others.
Todd Miller:Well, I think it's cool.
Todd Miller:You and I have connected at some and, and I've been watching you with what
Todd Miller:you're doing on your own social media.
Todd Miller:Um, of course you go by metal Micah, which is cool.
Todd Miller:Um.
Todd Miller:But you talk a lot about gratitude.
Todd Miller:Um, and to me gratitude is something that also really impacts our attitude.
Todd Miller:Um, I'm curious, can you reflect a little bit on how attitude,
Todd Miller:um, is more than just a mood.
Todd Miller:But really it almost becomes a lever in order to accomplish those
Todd Miller:preferred outcomes in life and business and faith and so forth.
Todd Miller:So speak a little bit about that idea of, of gratitude and,
Todd Miller:and, um, how that impacts us.
Micah Boak:That's an interesting concept and I'm glad I had a few days to think
Micah Boak:about that in advance because I think of a door and there's a lever on it.
Micah Boak:You can open it that allows someone to trust us to solve their issue, right?
Micah Boak:When it comes to business and how are we gonna get them to trust us
Micah Boak:if our attitude is self-serving.
Micah Boak:Most people are gonna sense that if our attitude is, we generally want what works
Micah Boak:out the best for them, even if it means losing the deal, well, they're gonna sense
Micah Boak:that too and where it's gonna get around.
Micah Boak:So attitude is a lever.
Todd Miller:That's cool.
Todd Miller:And I know one of the things we talk a lot about here is our attitude needs
Todd Miller:to be that we wanna help that customer accomplish what they want to accomplish.
Todd Miller:Even if it turns out that doesn't.
Todd Miller:Involve us down the road.
Todd Miller:Um, our goal is still to help them accomplish what is best
Todd Miller:for them and for their home.
Todd Miller:Um, well, tell me a little bit about what your typical day looks like.
Todd Miller:I know it's pretty early out your time right now when we're recording
Todd Miller:this, but how do you set the stage for each day, um, to try to do your
Todd Miller:best, to live with that sense of gratitude and, and a positive attitude?
Micah Boak:2025 has been a year of groundbreaking, you know,
Micah Boak:breaking up the fallow ground and, and starting new habits.
Micah Boak:And it has been, it's funny you ask this 'cause it's been the beginning of the
Micah Boak:day that I've been starting with, right?
Micah Boak:You gotta start somewhere.
Micah Boak:So five o'clock, wake up and then start prayer around five 30 and
Micah Boak:hopefully read the Bible too.
Micah Boak:And that, and then at six 30, it's the why.
Micah Boak:And this goes back to Sean Foyer podcast that was instrumental.
Micah Boak:He talks about meditating on why, and he talks about gratitude.
Micah Boak:So I do that for about 10 minutes and then go into my workday.
Todd Miller:Yeah.
Todd Miller:Thinking about that.
Todd Miller:Why?
Todd Miller:It's funny, I was just, I was sitting yesterday with a group of our, um,
Todd Miller:sort of, you know, newer folks to.
Todd Miller:Leadership here at the company.
Todd Miller:And, uh, I reviewed with them a Simon Sinek, uh, video that's
Todd Miller:all about attitude and mindset.
Todd Miller:And, you know, for Simon Sinek, it's always about, you
Todd Miller:gotta start with that why.
Todd Miller:And that why probably doesn't have anything to do with what
Todd Miller:you're actually gonna do that day.
Todd Miller:Um, it's actually a much bigger, bigger picture thing.
Todd Miller:Well.
Todd Miller:Let's just say that you're having a crappy day.
Todd Miller:We all have them, you know, and, and maybe the kids aren't behaving.
Todd Miller:Um, maybe you didn't get that big deal.
Todd Miller:You were hoping to get, maybe, maybe you didn't just have one flat tire, you
Todd Miller:had two flat tires on your way to work.
Todd Miller:I've had that happen before.
Todd Miller:How do you keep those situations from patients, from spiraling
Todd Miller:you downward into a bad place?
Todd Miller:Mentally and really sometimes even spiritually is where
Todd Miller:I can end up in a bad spot.
Micah Boak:I'll just tell a story.
Micah Boak:It was about a month ago.
Micah Boak:I was on my way and I had an appointment, but I wanted to fit in
Micah Boak:a haircut, so I stopped and somehow, some way I still don't understand.
Micah Boak:I locked myself out and I was tempted.
Micah Boak:Okay.
Micah Boak:But no, I remind myself, gotta be grateful, and I was grateful
Micah Boak:for Locksmiths right there.
Micah Boak:I was like, yep, I can be grateful for locksmiths.
Micah Boak:I called one.
Micah Boak:He answered so happy, thanked him immensely.
Micah Boak:Got my haircut.
Micah Boak:His employee showed up promptly thereafter.
Micah Boak:But this young man was the sweetest 20-year-old I'd ever, ever met,
Micah Boak:and he didn't.
Micah Boak:Know the scriptures, but some reason he started asking me questions.
Micah Boak:Uh, it was just, it just, it was so organic.
Micah Boak:It was amazing.
Micah Boak:He just started asking me all these questions, deep questions.
Micah Boak:Normally he can pick locks very fast.
Micah Boak:He's been doing it for years, but he couldn't pick it.
Micah Boak:It just kept trying and trying.
Micah Boak:So he kept asking more questions.
Micah Boak:And anyway, our 15, 20 minute interchange ended up being a huge blessing.
Micah Boak:So it's, those wrenches are blessings in disguise, but.
Micah Boak:God wants us to first embrace them and appreciate them.
Todd Miller:I'm curious, was it your house or your car you were locked out of?
Todd Miller:I didn't quite catch that.
Micah Boak:Sorry, it was my vehicle.
Micah Boak:Yeah.
Todd Miller:Your vehicle.
Todd Miller:Okay.
Todd Miller:So, so that happened to me a while back and same thing, I'm like, oh my gosh.
Todd Miller:Well this was cool.
Todd Miller:So I realized that my car had OnStar, even though I didn't pay for an OnStar
Todd Miller:subscription, I just called OnStar.
Todd Miller:They unlocked my car somehow from the cloud.
Todd Miller:That was pretty amazing.
Todd Miller:Uh, yeah, that was pretty cool.
Todd Miller:So I didn't have to do the whole locksmith thing.
Todd Miller:Um, well, I'm curious where.
Todd Miller:Have you seen, you know, having that positive attitude, um, lead most, or or
Todd Miller:most directly lead to a positive outcome?
Todd Miller:I mean, do you see it helpful in sales, relationship building, family life?
Todd Miller:I mean, other areas where, where do you see it really
Todd Miller:leading, uh, to, to good things?
Micah Boak:We have to define a positive outcome, and
Micah Boak:that would be responding in a good way.
Micah Boak:So if the positive outcome is responding with kindness or love, then it's a
Micah Boak:win-win no matter how the outcome is.
Micah Boak:And.
Micah Boak:If it's personal gain as we were talking about earlier, then yeah, it's gonna be a
Micah Boak:win or lose and we're gonna have all these failures 'cause you can't win every deal.
Micah Boak:And genuine kindness is something that is pervasive and people, okay.
Micah Boak:For instance, Joe Talman have you hat on, what was it, a
Micah Boak:few months ago in September,
Todd Miller:Yeah.
Todd Miller:A while back.
Micah Boak:he talks about integrity selling.
Micah Boak:So I'll just shut up and, and let him talk.
Micah Boak:It's way better.
Todd Miller:Well, that's a, that's a good answer.
Todd Miller:You know, Joe actually has an amazing story himself in that, uh, he had a
Todd Miller:severe heart attack at a pretty young age.
Todd Miller:I think he was still in his fifties, and, um, he wasn't supposed to make it.
Todd Miller:And I'll tell you going through that experience, 'cause I knew Joe before
Todd Miller:the heart attack and I knew him after.
Todd Miller:And uh, it really changed him.
Todd Miller:So, you know, as you said that you gotta define what positive outcome is.
Todd Miller:I really like that Mike.
Todd Miller:And you're so wise because, uh, you do because so often those
Todd Miller:things that, um, we may think.
Todd Miller:Define a positive outcome here on, uh, this earth.
Todd Miller:That doesn't define a positive outcome to God at all.
Todd Miller:Um, and if we're living our life for Jesus, we gotta look for those positive
Todd Miller:outcomes in terms of what he's trying to accomplish, uh, in the world, in our souls
Todd Miller:and our spirit, whatever that might be.
Todd Miller:Well, so, so the metal roofing industry.
Todd Miller:I've been at it a really long time.
Todd Miller:I got a few years on you, Micah.
Todd Miller:But anyway, uh, it can be pretty competitive.
Todd Miller:Um.
Todd Miller:Do.
Todd Miller:Do you think your customers really notice that, hey, there's
Todd Miller:something different about this guy.
Todd Miller:I mean, maybe it's your faith, maybe it's just that positive attitude
Todd Miller:that you put forth, but do you think your customers notice that?
Todd Miller:And do they like that?
Todd Miller:I mean, is that something they they kind of like or, or is it more that
Todd Miller:they notice, okay, this guy not only has a positive attitude, he actually.
Todd Miller:Does things for me, um, because that can be real lacking in
Todd Miller:today's marketplace as well.
Micah Boak:I, I'm just gonna say that.
Micah Boak:It does give you competitive edge, having a positive attitude.
Micah Boak:And if we look at some studies, for instance, um, on gratitude, let's
Micah Boak:say that that aspect of a positive attitude, uh, one was Wharton School,
Micah Boak:business school there in Pennsylvania.
Micah Boak:They did a, they were doing a fundraiser calling and they
Micah Boak:had one group had a manager.
Micah Boak:Express appreciation for the, you know, the people that were doing the cold
Micah Boak:calling or whatever, and the other group didn't, the, the group that had the
Micah Boak:appreciation had 50% more cold calls made.
Micah Boak:they they were hammering away 50.
Micah Boak:So, so it, it creates a it joy.
Micah Boak:If you have a joy in peace in you, if you have that, then people are
Micah Boak:comfortable with you and that's what gives you the competitive edge.
Todd Miller:And you know, I've always sensed that from you in
Todd Miller:terms of, you know, this guy is just, stays pretty even keeled.
Todd Miller:He has that constant peace about him and joy.
Todd Miller:Yeah.
Todd Miller:You're kind of laughing, but you, you really seem to, but, um.
Todd Miller:Well, let me ask that.
Todd Miller:Lemme dig at that a little bit.
Todd Miller:I mean, how do you model this sense of composure for your team
Todd Miller:at work and even your family?
Todd Miller:I, I think we've all seen that if stress enters in and one of the
Todd Miller:leaders or one of the people starts to really show that stress, the
Todd Miller:things can really spiral badly.
Todd Miller:Um, where do you find that ability to maintain your composure?
Micah Boak:Well, no, it's, if you were to talk to my wife and yeah, there's been
Micah Boak:change, there's been evolution in my.
Micah Boak:Life over the last 10 years and, and it's looking to Jesus.
Micah Boak:He's the example.
Micah Boak:And humility is, is, a key aspect.
Micah Boak:If it, if it's a triage, right?
Micah Boak:Like you have gratitude, you have humility, you have faith.
Micah Boak:I don't know so many triage you could make, but, but humility is gonna be
Micah Boak:the, the big one and, and selflessness.
Micah Boak:And there's a song that.
Micah Boak:We sing at home quite a bit.
Micah Boak:It's a children's song.
Micah Boak:J-O-Y-J-O-Y-J-O-Y must mean Jesus first, yourself last, and others in between.
Micah Boak:Have you ever heard that one,
Todd Miller:Sure.
Todd Miller:Sure.
Micah Boak:Okay.
Todd Miller:Beautiful.
Micah Boak:So that, that's the, that.
Todd Miller:No, that's a great way to live and great thing
Todd Miller:to model and be teaching your children, um, no doubt about it.
Todd Miller:Well, I, I'm curious.
Todd Miller:We all have those times in our, uh, life when we have what I call stubbed our toe.
Todd Miller:Um, where we, we didn't do, didn't model what we wanted to.
Todd Miller:Can you ever think of a time where that happened to you and
Todd Miller:it really taught you a lesson?
Todd Miller:I mean, it taught you, Hey, I'm not gonna do that again.
Micah Boak:Powerful lessons come through struggles and falling on our face.
Micah Boak:And the biggest one, I'm gonna get a bit personal here.
Micah Boak:The biggest one was early on right when I got married.
Micah Boak:I instead when, when we had differences, I would argue my point.
Micah Boak:And this, yeah, it led to some pretty serious heartache and it wasn't till
Micah Boak:three years later, finally, when the Lord humbled me back to earlier,
Micah Boak:the humility aspect humbled me in realizing that my role is to love
Micah Boak:her, not pound her with logic, that that was the transforming power.
Todd Miller:I like that and I appreciate your vulnerability and as
Todd Miller:you've said it, you brought to mind two instances in the early years
Todd Miller:of my wife and i's relationship.
Todd Miller:Uh, one before we were married and one where after where, you
Todd Miller:know, I just really blew it.
Todd Miller:Um, and you know, you go back and you ask for, uh.
Todd Miller:Ask for forgiveness and you apologize for it.
Todd Miller:But, you know, both of those instances have forever stuck with me
Todd Miller:that I'm not gonna go there again.
Todd Miller:Um, that was just, uh, really bad.
Todd Miller:So interesting.
Micah Boak:One other thought on that is I think the reason is fear.
Todd Miller:Hmm.
Micah Boak:that's the, the motive and, and not, I mean, we talk about
Micah Boak:that a lot, but, but the antidote is the perfect love, which is
Micah Boak:mauled by Christ that casts it out.
Todd Miller:Oh, cool.
Todd Miller:Well, let's say there's somebody out there in our audience who knows that
Todd Miller:they struggle with mindset and attitude.
Todd Miller:Um, any bit of a top advice for them to try to overcome that.
Todd Miller:I, I love how you start your day.
Todd Miller:I think that's a great thing, but curious what your advice would be.
Micah Boak:Opposite of gratitude.
Micah Boak:We could think of probably many things, but one thing that
Micah Boak:comes to mind is entitlement.
Micah Boak:You deserve it.
Micah Boak:And if we're demanding comforts, if we're demanding safe.
Micah Boak:Quotas.
Micah Boak:If we're demanding things, then we're bound to be frustrated.
Micah Boak:And when we have the mindset shift that everything's a gift.
Micah Boak:I think it's James also that says every gift, uh, there's, every good
Micah Boak:and perfect gift is from above and comes from the father of lights.
Micah Boak:So, train our mind.
Micah Boak:We can train our mind, we can, our minds can be renewed with or without
Micah Boak:the Holy Spirit, quite frankly.
Micah Boak:Uh, you know, obviously I would hope it would be the, the latter, but, but we can.
Micah Boak:God gives us the ability to train our minds and we can literally pick
Micah Boak:those entitlement thoughts out and replace 'em with gratitude thoughts.
Todd Miller:That's cool stuff.
Todd Miller:Well, kind of taking off of that, if you were to give someone a seven day
Todd Miller:attitude challenge, one behavior that if they just start doing it every day,
Todd Miller:you think it's gonna make a difference, um, by the end of the week, what,
Todd Miller:what would that behavior change be?
Micah Boak:First thing in the morning, get out a pen and paper.
Micah Boak:Just start rapid fire writing down for five minutes.
Micah Boak:Write down as many things you can think of as what you're grateful for.
Micah Boak:And then at the end of the five minutes, just brief, briefly
Micah Boak:review it and repeat that.
Micah Boak:And I've heard 'cause of our brains and the neuroplasticity, and I don't, I don't
Micah Boak:haven't researched it, but I've heard that it takes 21 days to form a habit.
Micah Boak:So
Micah Boak:I'm gonna just flip the script a little bit and do it 21 days and then be amazed.
Todd Miller:Good stuff.
Todd Miller:Well, I'm curious, what do you read?
Todd Miller:I know you said start with the Bible or some sort of a devotional reading every
Todd Miller:day, but um, you know, who do you follow?
Todd Miller:What are you watching out there to find, you know, your light and
Todd Miller:your inspiration in, in your life?
Micah Boak:A number of years ago, maybe five years ago, I got one
Micah Boak:of those daily Bibles that breaks up the Bible into one, uh, 365
Todd Miller:Oh, yeah.
Micah Boak:So in the morning, I, I try to get the New Testament in Solomon, and
Micah Boak:then in the evening, the Old Testament and a couple proverbs, that is basically
Micah Boak:the lion share of my reading because I'm just family, man and work and everything.
Micah Boak:It's just like, I would love to read more, but that's just, yeah,
Micah Boak:that's just ends up being sad to say what, but it's, it's, it's going to,
Micah Boak:it's, it's the baseline for me and.
Micah Boak:There was one book I read in the spring that was powerful, and it's called The
Micah Boak:Reason For Existence by David Alama.
Micah Boak:You can get the Kindle book version even on Amazon either
Micah Boak:way, but this book is deep.
Micah Boak:It starts out with, you might say, apologetics, meaning it goes into the
Micah Boak:reason for existence and comparing it to maybe, uh, evolution and, but, but
Micah Boak:it, it's very deep thinking, right?
Micah Boak:It's not like just.
Micah Boak:And then it goes the, the best part though is it goes into chapters
Micah Boak:and chapters on the atonement and why that is the central part of our
Micah Boak:faith in how it's transformative.
Todd Miller:The reason for existence, I have not run across
Todd Miller:that, so I wanna check that out.
Todd Miller:Thank you.
Todd Miller:Mike, it's been a real pleasure and privilege to have you with us here today.
Todd Miller:I always enjoy talking with you.
Todd Miller:You're a wise young man and, uh, love the way you're willing to
Todd Miller:share and the way that you stand boldly, uh, for, for the gospel.
Todd Miller:Um, love that as well.
Todd Miller:But is there anything we haven't covered here that you'd sure
Todd Miller:like to share with our audience?
Micah Boak:Our creator the Almighty, he is at work and.
Micah Boak:I don't have to tell a lot of you that, but some of you might not be seeing it.
Micah Boak:But here's an example.
Micah Boak:I have a friend we've been praying for for years and his life took a turn this year.
Micah Boak:It got really hard, you know, you lose loved ones in your life, things happen.
Micah Boak:Responsibility shift.
Micah Boak:It got really hard and, and we started praying more and more, and last Sunday.
Micah Boak:He gave his heart to the Lord.
Micah Boak:And this is years, okay, years in the making.
Micah Boak:And on Monday I, now, I didn't find out till like a few days ago,
Micah Boak:Tuesday, but on Monday I released this gratitude video on new beginnings, new
Micah Boak:life, and being grateful for the new birth being born again spiritually.
Micah Boak:And I just this morning.
Micah Boak:Or during the night I was just woke up in the middle.
Micah Boak:I was just like crying, just feeling so blessed.
Micah Boak:Like, like, 'cause I got to talk to him yesterday, um, for the
Micah Boak:first time after this happened and embrace him and pray with him.
Micah Boak:And it was just there.
Micah Boak:This is way more exciting than construction sales.
Micah Boak:The,
Micah Boak:the work of the kingdom.
Todd Miller:Absolutely.
Todd Miller:Praise Jesus.
Todd Miller:Glad to hear that story and I'm glad you shared that.
Todd Miller:Thank you.
Todd Miller:Um, yeah.
Todd Miller:Reminder for all of us.
Todd Miller:Keep on praying, keep on planting the seed and, uh, let God do the rest.
Todd Miller:It'll, he'll do it in his time.
Todd Miller:Well, Micah, this has been a great, valuable time together.
Todd Miller:Um, before we close out, I'm gonna ask if you're willing to participate in something
Todd Miller:we call our rapid fire questions.
Todd Miller:Um, these are just five questions, a couple serious, couple more silly ones.
Todd Miller:All you have to do is give top of your head response.
Todd Miller:Are you up to the challenge of rapid fire?
Todd Miller:Great.
Todd Miller:Question number one, what is a product or service you have acquired recently
Todd Miller:that was a real game changer for you?
Todd Miller:Sort of a where have you been?
Todd Miller:All my life moment.
Micah Boak:Okay, well, if I were to say chat GBT, I'd be way redundant,
Micah Boak:so I'm not gonna say that, but I'm gonna go on to another one, which
Micah Boak:is a sales role, play AI thing.
Todd Miller:Oh.
Micah Boak:You practice with an avatar talking to 'em.
Micah Boak:The, the bad part is, is I don't do it every day, but when I do it, I'm never
Micah Boak:disappointed because it's so helpful to, uh, instead of burning your leads practice
Micah Boak:and of course practicing with another person's ideal, but sometimes you can't.
Todd Miller:Yeah.
Todd Miller:What's the name of that?
Todd Miller:Is there, is it an app or something or,
Micah Boak:Oh, there's lots of
Micah Boak:versions.
Micah Boak:This is pitch monster.
Todd Miller:I never even heard of it.
Todd Miller:Oh, cool.
Todd Miller:I'm gonna check that out.
Todd Miller:Question number two, what is your favorite meal?
Micah Boak:Ooh.
Micah Boak:I just, we had all these meals when we had our baby, 'cause Marcus is like three
Micah Boak:weeks old and one was a, someone from our church brought this big, it was a
Micah Boak:half thing or of white, just white rice.
Micah Boak:And then it was like this maybe, I don't know what you call it, Japanese
Micah Boak:maybe, or, or Korean style ground beef.
Micah Boak:It was so simple and amazing and it was of course, four times
Micah Boak:as much as it should have been.
Micah Boak:It took us days to eat it all.
Micah Boak:So yeah, that was a, a real blessing.
Todd Miller:Oh, that's cool.
Todd Miller:Very neat.
Todd Miller:Okay, I'm gonna stick with the eating theme.
Todd Miller:Uh, this is a question we used to ask a lot here on the show,
Todd Miller:and we kind of got away from it, so I'm gonna subject you to it.
Todd Miller:If you had to eat a crayon, what color of crayon would you choose to eat?
Micah Boak:Green's always been my favorite color, and you'll probably
Micah Boak:notice if I ate the green crayon and I can maybe convince you that I really did it.
Todd Miller:Good deal.
Todd Miller:Question number four, do you have a bucket list vacation, and if so, what is that?
Micah Boak:It's probably, I, I don't, but just offhand it's
Micah Boak:gonna be national parks, right.
Todd Miller:Oh, wow.
Micah Boak:beautiful places to camp and all those places like my, my
Micah Boak:dad and just went down to Yosemite and, and things and it's like, wow.
Micah Boak:Where, where am I?
Micah Boak:Why, why haven't I haven't been, I haven't been to the Grand Canyon even.
Micah Boak:Anyway, so yeah, there's definitely just a lot of places right here in the us.
Todd Miller:Cool.
Todd Miller:I love that.
Todd Miller:And we, uh, we were blessed.
Todd Miller:We had a project in Yosemite a couple years ago.
Todd Miller:I'm, uh, working with some architects now on a project in
Todd Miller:the Grand Canyon National Park.
Todd Miller:And, uh, uh, love it when we get those types of pro projects going.
Todd Miller:Um, well last question.
Todd Miller:What would you like way in the future?
Todd Miller:'cause you're a young guy, what would you like to be remembered
Todd Miller:for at the end of your days?
Micah Boak:That's easy.
Micah Boak:Just someone who was killed for the faith.
Micah Boak:Someone, if I wasn't killed for the faith, I was boldly promoting the faith.
Micah Boak:And yeah, it's just, it's just been one of those years, you know, with
Micah Boak:Charlie Kirk being, being killed.
Micah Boak:It's just, it's just the, the quote from the early church
Micah Boak:father, his name was maybe, um.
Micah Boak:Tertullian, the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church and however I go,
Micah Boak:I just want to burn out for the Lord.
Todd Miller:Love it.
Todd Miller:Great answer.
Todd Miller:Well, Mike, I love, um, your attitude.
Todd Miller:I love the impact you've had on me, the impact you have on others.
Todd Miller:Things you're doing with your own, uh, gratitude videos and things,
Todd Miller:but, um, for those who may wanna connect with you or connect with
Todd Miller:Metallion industries, um, what are the best ways for them to do that?
Micah Boak:LinkedIn's a great way.
Micah Boak:My number is 5 0 3 6 3 0 7 5 1 3.
Micah Boak:My email.
Micah Boak:It's my first name, M-I-C-A-H at metallion.
Micah Boak:That's metal lion industries.com.
Micah Boak:And my last name, by the way, is B as in boy, O-A-K.
Todd Miller:Cool.
Todd Miller:Thank you.
Todd Miller:And of course, battalion industries.com is the website
Todd Miller:and I never made that connection.
Todd Miller:That was metal lion before.
Todd Miller:That is so embarrassing.
Todd Miller:I love it.
Todd Miller:I never, never made that connection.
Micah Boak:Oh no.
Todd Miller:Uh, good stuff.
Todd Miller:Well, thank you again.
Todd Miller:It's been a pleasure to visit with you, Micah.
Micah Boak:Oh, the pleasure's all mine.
