Ep42: What Happens When You Become An Author?

[00:00:00] Today. I want to talk about what happens when you become an author. Because it's more likely the case. If you're listening, to this episode right now, or if you listen to this podcast, Your goal is to ultimately become an author. Your goal is to publish a book. Your goal is to use that book to. I earn all those outcomes that happens when you become an author. So today's episode, I'm going to go over seven of those outcomes. And I think you'll find these outcomes to be really game-changing. In your personal life and in your professional life as well. So the first thing that happens when you become an author, and this is automatic, the first thing that happens when you become an order or thought when that book is published, is you and your brand or you and your business, become more interesting.

[00:00:43] When I published my very first book, the six pillars of rewarding life.

[00:00:46] I didn't have my business that I do now, but I published the six pillars of rewarding life. I automatically became more interesting when I did my book launch. People asked me so many questions and I did a Q and a to answer those questions that people were asking me. Which was a really, really cool way to actually get Pete, give people an insight into the actual process of writing a book and the outcome that it presented me.

[00:01:10] So you become more interesting and. When you write a book, you're setting yourself apart, comparing to someone else who hasn't written a book either. There's a perception as well. There's the perception of you being a thought leader in what it is that you ride, because you've done the work to write this book.

[00:01:26] You've done the work to get this book published. You're the one that knows the topic inside that book. So you're perceived as being an author. You're perceived as being a thought leader

[00:01:38] in your industry.

[00:01:40] And it's exactly the case for me, where I wrote published to impact and started a business off of that. I automatically became more interesting. People wanted to understand what the book writing process is like, how it works, what the outcomes can

[00:01:51] be for them. It's why I started this podcast as well.

[00:01:55] So that's the first thing that happens when you become an author, you automatically become more interesting and this leads into the second outcome. That is networking becomes more effective.

[00:02:08] How we network has changed quite drastically over the years. Going into the more online space.

[00:02:14] There is a lot more noise. There is a lot more saturation in the online market and it's becoming more difficult for brands for businesses to separate themselves. But your book can have the power to open doors that were previously closed. You can use that book to start a conversation, and that's going to instantly give you that credibility boost. If you're looking to network with someone to potentially collaborate with, or if you want them to invest in you in the future. Your book. is that conversation starter? And it's going to allow, that know like, and trust almost immediately with that prospect or with that. potential collaborator and one of the best ways you can use your book to effectively network is to give your book away for free. And don't ask anything in return.

[00:02:56] When I meet people who I believe can be a value to me whether that's working together in the future or whether that's collaborating with them on. On a project I will give them a book for free and I will always write a little note for them to make it more personalized because that's building relationships with people that's really going that extra mile to say, Hey look. This can be an important relationship between us in the future.

[00:03:19] And I want to give you as much value as I can. And create that know like, and trust and really build that long term connection and that longterm Relationship because one of the keys to effective networking is just being a value-driven person, being a nice person, and being a present person. And when it comes to the people you network with, you want them to remember you and. I've never really known anyone to get a book for free and to throw it in the bin. So your book can stay with them your book will remind them. Not only that you're a nice person, but you have a message to send and a problem to solve. And that's really powerful thing for that person you networking with as well in the future, because they will remember you.

[00:04:00] The third outcome for when you become an author, is, it is a huge fulfillment that compliments you and also your business. now. When I published evolve your skill, was it when I published any book for that matter, it's not about the sales of the books, or it's not about being a best seller.

[00:04:15] It's about the journey and the process to get there and the impact that not only I can make inside other people's lives, but also inside my business and inside my mindset. And how I can translate everything inside that book to make an impact in more lives. And use that book as leverage to help other people.

[00:04:33] So there is a personal and professional satisfaction that happens when you complete your book.

[00:04:39] And it translates into the growth of your business because when you go through that process of writing and getting a book published, That process brewed so much more resilience and so much more clarity inside your life where.

[00:04:52] Once you finished, you feel like you can achieve anything.

[00:04:55] You feel like you can do more things. You feel like you can make more money in your business. You feel like you could make an impact in more people's lives? And nothing's going to stop you.

[00:05:03] So combine the resilience and that fulfillment, and it's a really potent outcome to happen when you become an author.

[00:05:11] Number four is the credibility inside your industry? I'll be real insight. If I didn't publish my book, published the impact. I wouldn't be a credible expert in the publishing industry.

[00:05:22] People. Yeah, they can perceive me as an author. But the fact that I wrote about how to write and publish a book that can grow your business and ignite personal growth and prove that I started a business off the back of my book. That is something that gives me credibility inside my industry. And if I didn't have that book. It would have been very difficult for me to go out there and transition to what I previously had as being an author business into a publishing business and when you have more credibility.

[00:05:50] It opens up so many doors where you can again, network effectively and attract new opportunities and partnerships with people, which is what I've done inside of my publishing business, where I've been able to hire professional editors, get covered designers in and make that experience really valuable For aspiring authors. And because I publish that book, I create better trust with those people. Better trust with my clients And better trust with the relationships that I have.

[00:06:15] So publishing a book at the forefront is credibility inside your industry..

[00:06:19] Because without credibility, it is very difficult to grow your business, to create connections with other people, for people to know, like, and trust you. as well. And for me, my personal opinion is the book is the ultimate differentiator in establishing your credibility. Especially if you're not well-known inside your industry.

[00:06:37] All right. We're up to number five. So number five is your book is a powerful marketing tool. So when you become an author, your book is a powerful marketing tool. There are so many different ways you can use your book inside your business. For example, you can give away your book for free as a lead generation tool web you give them your free book in exchange for their email address, and then you take them into your ecosystem and into your world where you can solve their problem and offer them programs or services based on what it is they're looking for. You can include resources inside your book that deliver other resources, where people again can go onto your email list.

[00:07:13] They can go and access these resources that they find in your book. That's another way you can use your books as a marketing tool. The best thing about your book is it's going to last forever and it is a versatile tool to use. So you can always think outside the box and how you want to use your book to grow your business and to make it impact because. I'll always say it's not about the sales of the book. It's not about how much royalties are you going to get from your book. It's how you use that book to make an impact. Number six, when you become an author, it opens up new revenue streams for you. And again, just like I said, it's not going off the basis of royalties. Yes, they royalties are a part of it and they can be great coffee money. But in essence, you want to use that book and go beyond the royalties for it. Because beyond the book sales, my books have opened up new revenue streams through one-to-one coaching through online courses, many different things and opportunities, and there's more opportunities to come as well. 'cause that book does last forever. That book. Allows you to open up those opportunities and it presents itself in many different ways. So you can monetize your book. I've created a whole six month program off of my book.

[00:08:27] So again, it becomes down how creative are you? How creative do you want to be with your book?

[00:08:31] How can you use that book to grow your business and to create new revenue streams? Speaking engagements is another one you can use your book to create a keynote. I did that with my book, evolve your skills, and I was invited to speak at a university.

[00:08:47] You can use that book to book in speaking engagements, and to get yourself in front of your ideal audience.

[00:08:54] And finally, number seven, what happens when you become an author? Is you make legacy building moves. And how have you created legacy building moves, where you've created that all by coming, becoming an author. All those things I just spoke about you and your brand become more interesting. Networking becomes more effective. There's a huge fulfillment that compliments you and your business.

[00:09:16] You have established credibility. You've got your book now as a powerful marketing tool where you can generate new revenue streams. All those lead to legacy building moves. And the fact that you've built that resilience throughout the process, nothing will stop you from achieving what it is you want to do once you've become an author. And that's why you should publish a book.

[00:09:34] That's why I want you to publish your books. So that's it for today's episode. I hope you found it inspiring, and I hope you really go out there and start writing your book.

[00:09:42] If you're on the fence about writing your book, I'd love for you to go and get a free copy of my book, published impact, which is available in the show notes.

[00:09:49] But until next time. Okay. You on the next episode.
