Everyone is just so easily offended and everyone's looking something
Speaker:to be offended over. I used the word sheep in a comment and
Speaker:How many people don't like Trump? How many people think that America is
Speaker:going to go to shit and Trump gets in? I think a lot of people want to kill him.
Speaker:You reckon it's scripted? Scripted? No. It's so hard to give money
Speaker:Seriously? Not knocking Beyond Blue, but a little bit ridiculous that
Speaker:they wouldn't accept raised funds. The group was branded
Speaker:that we promote rape culture in Australia and it was my
Speaker:Welcome to the Better Bloke Podcast. I'm Matty. I'm Rob. And
Speaker:we're just a pair of average blokes on a mission to try and be a
Speaker:We're going to speak about all things highs and lows of what it feels like to be a bloke,
Speaker:plus speak to some legends along the way about what it takes to be a better bloke. Let's
Speaker:Welcome back to the Better Bloke Project. We're here with the
Speaker:OG founder of Bloke's Advice and the third
Speaker:member of Better Bloke Project. You're making your debut
Speaker:Oh, I don't know. Yeah, me neither. I don't
Speaker:Welcome to the set. Thank you. It's good to finally be here. Bit
Speaker:of a process getting here, but thanks for having
Speaker:No, probably not a shout out to Jetstar, but just for
Speaker:any future endorsement deals that might be coming our way. But
Speaker:yeah, I won't be flying Jetstar for the foreseeable
Speaker:future. No, not a fun experience? Well, we
Speaker:missed our flight yesterday. We had
Speaker:to, it was an expensive day. So yeah,
Speaker:missed our flight by two minutes and there was no leniency. So
Speaker:yeah, it was just ridiculous. So I think Jetstar has
Speaker:like moved their time to, it's now 40 minutes. You have
Speaker:to be there 40 minutes before where all the other airlines are 30. Stitched
Speaker:Taken aback. It's been what, eight, nine years ago since, you
Speaker:know, you kickstarted. 2016, yeah. Kickstarted this little Facebook page
Speaker:Right? Yeah. It's a long time, long time ago now. It
Speaker:Those first couple of years were really chaos. It
Speaker:was a whirlwind. Um, you were, you were a young bloke at the time now
Speaker:and not so much anymore if you're grazing the deer, but walk
Speaker:us through like, how your life was sort of
Speaker:chaotically changing, dealing with this like
Speaker:sudden, what would you call it? It was almost like a cultural phenomenon.
Speaker:Yeah, it, mate, I was, uh, a
Speaker:uni student sitting in a lecture at the back of a lecture when it all
Speaker:kind of kicked off and was kind of just like inviting my
Speaker:mates in that were in the uni lecture and you could just kind of
Speaker:see like one by one it was like a because I was like sitting at the back
Speaker:so like you could see like all their heads kind of roll and then it
Speaker:just blew up like as Rob would know Rob was in
Speaker:it from an early stage it just went absolutely nuts.
Speaker:It was the, I'd call it the wild, wild west of
Speaker:Facebook. It was when stuff was unregulated. It
Speaker:was just, yeah. Uncensored. Uncensored. It
Speaker:was just, yeah, it was, it was a crazy, crazy time. Um,
Speaker:and I guess having no experience in running a Facebook group,
Speaker:it was just, yeah, the first, the first month was just wild, wild.
Speaker:Um, but. As yeah, it was just
Speaker:like, what's the word? Yellow.
Speaker:Yeah. Okay. No, unsustainable, unsustainable.
Speaker:Yeah. Very different to the word yellow. Um, but
Speaker:yeah, so kind of moved it with the help of Rob and
Speaker:a couple of other pretty important boys moved the page in a
Speaker:more sustainable, um, like direction. And yeah,
Speaker:About eight years. People always talk about it like, because obviously
Speaker:the variety of posts that go up, there's a
Speaker:little bit of something for everyone. Yeah. And sometimes still it
Speaker:ticks people off and they're like, nah, this is bloke's advice. This
Speaker:shouldn't be in bloke's advice. And it's like, who's to say what it is?
Speaker:No one. That's the, that's the beauty of the page. It's, there
Speaker:is something for, for like for everyone, you know, there's something for
Speaker:you, there's something for you, something for me. Um, But
Speaker:yeah, it's the, it's the beauty of the page and that's what makes it so unique is
Speaker:there's, it caters to someone from 18 all
Speaker:up until like my dad's age at 65, you know, like he's
Speaker:on it and a couple of like other older boys I know they froth it,
Speaker:you know, cause like there's stuff about cars and motorbikes and
Speaker:I think the way that with what you were saying before was sort of the way that we
Speaker:all took it to what it is now. A lot
Speaker:of people bitch and moan about that. But it
Speaker:had to go that way or else it would be non-existent now. Absolutely. With
Speaker:Dude, you've seen what it's like now. I use
Speaker:the word sheep in a comment and I got banned for
Speaker:30 days because that was bullying.
Speaker:I wasn't even saying it in that sense, but unfortunately
Speaker:that's the world we live in today where everyone's
Speaker:a pussy. It's fair. Yeah. It's
Speaker:the nicest way of putting it is everyone is just so easily offended
Speaker:and everyone's looking for something to
Speaker:And I think that's what's made Bloke's advice. continue on its journey,
Speaker:what it is, as much as everyone goes like, oh, you know, admin
Speaker:are doing this and this and this, we don't let
Speaker:anyone not talk about whatever the fuck they want. It's so,
Speaker:all the bands that get handed out, like you just said with, you know, using
Speaker:the term sheep and that, that all comes down from the algorithm that just comes through.
Speaker:Facebook's got their AI pumping now, which is kind of like,
Speaker:without us doing it as reined in what can happen inside
Speaker:the group. Yeah. But like, as long as you're somewhat civil in
Speaker:your discourse, you can talk about whatever the hell you want. And I
Speaker:mean, still plenty of space to offend some people and
Speaker:At getting offended. I mean, I'm a lot smarter in how I do it
Speaker:now. But it comes back to that whole what we were talking about the other day. People
Speaker:can't just say shit and not expect a rebuttal that they're not going to
Speaker:All behind a keyboard. I love it. But now I'm not doing it
Speaker:behind a keyboard. I'm looking at you while I'm doing it. Yeah. Rob's not
Speaker:tough at all. No, I'm not. Just cuddle me. Like
Speaker:I said, none of the way that we directed it had any
Speaker:input on which way it was already going. We may have just- We
Speaker:It was the members ultimately who dictated where
Speaker:we went. We really just jumped on
Speaker:and we've been along for the ride ever since. Yeah, we
Speaker:might try and help it go in a certain direction if it's veering off
Speaker:track, but Yeah. It's the
Speaker:With, with the early days. So you, you come under a bit of fire back
Speaker:in the early days. A little bit. We won't go into too
Speaker:Okay. So there was, we'll
Speaker:use the, the big under fire moment. Was
Speaker:Page 11, baby. Page 11. So I was meant to be,
Speaker:we were meant to be, but unfortunately it was
Speaker:my face on the thing. We were meant to be page
Speaker:one of the Sunday Mail, but... Benny
Speaker:Barber was up to trouble again. He stole the
Speaker:limelight and he was page one. So I think we, yeah, page 11. And
Speaker:the group was branded that we promote rape
Speaker:culture in Australia. And it was my face
Speaker:that was attached to that. Um, and the, it
Speaker:was ridiculous because everyone wanted to, every
Speaker:news agency, they wanted a piece. Everyone wanted to
Speaker:do the story. And I knew someone who was, uh,
Speaker:in the career mail at the time. So I was like, I've drank with
Speaker:that dude. I've partied with him. He's a good dude. He's not going to throw me
Speaker:under the bus, dude. Right under. Do
Speaker:you know what? I actually need a car jack or something
Speaker:to get me out underneath the bass that I got thrown under. It
Speaker:was ridiculous. It just got
Speaker:completely thrown out of context. His whole article was just
Speaker:negative, negative, negative, negative, negative, negative. And
Speaker:at the end it was like, and Brock wants to do good with the
Speaker:group in the future. That was like the last little bit. I was like, so
Speaker:yeah, it was a two page spread. My mug. on
Speaker:Shout out, shout out Devo. Rolled me a, rolled me a
Speaker:tailor. No filter as he likes to do it. And
Speaker:yeah, got a, got a photo on the OG, OG shirt for it.
Speaker:Yeah, it's probably not the best headline. But now we get to talk about it. Do you remember
Speaker:Or maybe it was the online one. It was Bloke's Advice's Disgusting
Speaker:and Brutal Guide to Raping Women. Oh, wow. That's what's online
Speaker:to this day. And we should probably mention the
Speaker:whole thing stemmed from, in the early days, I think it
Speaker:No, I'll tell you. Sorry. I'll tell you what it stemmed from, that thing.
Speaker:It was a Jake the Musk meme. that's what it was. Someone
Speaker:put in the group, it was a Jake the must meme, which everyone's probably seen the movie
Speaker:Jake the must, not the greatest role model for your kids, but
Speaker:it's a movie, all right? So anyway, someone put a
Speaker:meme up, it was something, I think it was about cook me some eggs or
Speaker:it was something, and that's what they grabbed. And
Speaker:so that was the whole, that's where it started. And
Speaker:then unfortunately, it's like a couple of comments from different
Speaker:people, which Like, at the time, how
Speaker:That year, I think we would have got somewhere around 15 million fucking
Speaker:comments. Like, it was literally, there
Speaker:was almost like eight, nine hundred thousand people by the time
Speaker:that group ended. Like you said, Wild West,
Speaker:chaos. It was unfiltered. Facebook didn't take anything down. So
Speaker:Nah, you lose that many comments. Like when that
Speaker:many comments are coming through on a post, you lose them until unfortunately, the
Speaker:algorithm will put that section of comments in someone's feed and
Speaker:But even then there was like, there was this hype around it because
Speaker:at that point it was still like the secret group. Oh yeah. And it was like
Speaker:invite only. And there was this big hype going around that. There
Speaker:was so many burner accounts getting made by a
Speaker:Oh yeah. They found my, um, they found my home number. So
Speaker:they found, so you've both met my mum, shout out Jano, absolutely
Speaker:lovely lady. One of the best. Actually one of
Speaker:the best. Um, so you could imagine her,
Speaker:this sweet, sweet little lady getting phone calls from very, very
Speaker:angry females, um, telling them that they, yeah, wanted
Speaker:to kill me wanted to do this I've got it you've like you've got
Speaker:it coming to you so it was a bit of a scary time
Speaker:as well you know because you didn't know what was going
Speaker:to happen and like that whole um uh like
Speaker:feminist movement but the aggressive like what's the like
Speaker:uh toxic feminine yeah yeah that whole movement man
Speaker:I don't know. Are we going to attach it to Clementine? Cause she embodies the not hot
Speaker:Talking about someone who was hot. Off
Speaker:Off all that controversy, it did see the growth, right?
Speaker:Yeah, absolutely. So whenever you stand for something and
Speaker:we stood for bloke culture and not being offended, don't
Speaker:be a fucking snowflake, it saw... Also not
Speaker:raping though, they just took that out of context. Yeah, that was fully out of context. We
Speaker:don't condone that. So obviously it offended a lot of people. Yeah. At
Speaker:the same time, that controversy is what made people
Speaker:love it as well. That's what draw people in. Yeah. And you saw a lot
Speaker:of growth off like kind of having two sides and
Speaker:Well, yeah, it's like with, I guess without that, what
Speaker:you just said, we wouldn't have grown. I don't think we would have grown to where
Speaker:we, like where we got to and where we are today. And
Speaker:without, without growing, I guess, to that rate, we wouldn't have
Speaker:been able to do all the fantastic things like that we've done, you
Speaker:know? Um, and like, I remember, I think I was, was I
Speaker:speaking to you before I took that, um, career article?
Speaker:the Korea Mail article. I can't remember if it was you. I'm pretty sure
Speaker:it was though. And Rob was just like, any
Speaker:publicity is good publicity at the moment. And
Speaker:that's what, and you know what? And yeah, I just, I ran with that
Speaker:and it did, you know, like it was, and I guess you, you
Speaker:bottle that up with the, the secrecy of the
Speaker:group, you know, like, of course blokes want to get involved, you know, they want to
Speaker:see what we're up to. They want to see what we're doing. And then I guess
Speaker:when the word gets out about all the fantastic things that we were doing, Everyone
Speaker:It sort of makes it like that, that bit of secrecy and like taboo
Speaker:of like this old man's club. Yeah. Like
Speaker:if you're, if you're a bloke and you're not part of it, you're missing the fuck
Speaker:out. Yeah, absolutely. Everyone wanted in. I remember we were at
Speaker:EH years ago and it was literally,
Speaker:that was like every fucking conversation was like, were you in
Speaker:Only the ones, but it may be for life. Sorry, it's
Speaker:It's 2099. It says on it. Oh, that's right. Yeah. So
Speaker:Here's what it is. But like everywhere in
Speaker:that peak time, everywhere you would go out.
Speaker:I remember I went to, did you ever go GPO? A
Speaker:couple of times. Shout out GPO. Stomping ground for many years. I
Speaker:remember one of the bartenders just was like, he frothed it.
Speaker:And I think I got in there at nine o'clock. It is the drunkest
Speaker:I have ever been. I think in my, there's photos I had
Speaker:at my cover photo on Facebook for a while. One of the boys actually dropped me home at like
Speaker:one, one o'clock, I think. And he took a photo of me.
Speaker:I was like passed out in the front yard of my house.
Speaker:He somehow got me to the back door. I don't remember. I opened
Speaker:the garage door. Remember like at that place? Garage door
Speaker:went out and crawled into the dog's kennel where my parents found
Speaker:me. I don't remember. I woke up in my bed the
Speaker:next morning, completely changed, bucket, towel next
Speaker:to me. And I was like, well, my parents undressed me.
Speaker:Yeah, and put me back outside. Yeah. But
Speaker:yeah, he was in it. So he was just lining up shots.
Speaker:And then boys were wearing their BA, the OG
Speaker:BA shirts, out underneath their button up shirts. So
Speaker:they'd open it up. It was cool. It was a cool part of
Speaker:like, it was a cool couple of years. It was sick. Yeah.
Speaker:But yeah, I guess we've just gone
Speaker:down a different path now, which is fantastic. We
Speaker:always wanted to get to where we are now, doing
Speaker:what we're doing, but we almost didn't have the tools
Speaker:and the know-how. It's pretty
Speaker:cool to see how far it's come. the
Speaker:It's kind of cool in the sense that, so when we were all like,
Speaker:what, 2016, so we were all early 20s, 18 and all
Speaker:that sort of stuff. 22, I think I was. Yeah, so early 20s
Speaker:then. So everyone was like loose in that period. Very loose.
Speaker:BA was loose at that time too. Very loose, yeah. Now, we're
Speaker:all grown up. BA's grown up with us and it's sort of
Speaker:like, it's like BA's sort of grown up and BA's like, I need to stop partying.
Speaker:I need to stop getting on it. I'm going to get a job. I'm
Speaker:going to do the right thing in society. That's what BA's done.
Speaker:So BA has grown up as we
Speaker:It's just evolved with us. That's all it is. But also very unsustainable to
Speaker:And that's, and that's what I mean. It's like with me, 22 was
Speaker:very loose. Like it's. Yeah.
Speaker:I had no idea what I was doing. No idea. Didn't know how to run a Facebook
Speaker:group. Didn't know you could approve posts. Like,
Speaker:so like everything was just getting approved, like straight away. It
Speaker:was just on the feed. So
Speaker:At the start, like it had all this loose stuff, but
Speaker:it also quickly developed the camaraderie side
Speaker:of it. Yeah. So you mentioned before, like all the good shit. Yeah, of course. That
Speaker:was all happening during this crazy period. I know. And it
Speaker:was almost like even bigger for it because there was such a
Speaker:strong bond between this fight club of a secret group.
Speaker:Yeah. What are some of like the first things that
Speaker:kind of kicked off inside the group, whether it was the raising
Speaker:I think the very first one was, it
Speaker:was just to the point where I was like, do you know what? I think we could probably do, we
Speaker:could do something good. There's this many blokes here, everyone's
Speaker:keen to do something. We raised, I think it
Speaker:was like 30 grand for a, it was a local men's shelter
Speaker:who, it was like a boxing shed. 26K. Yeah,
Speaker:yeah. Yeah, so we raised that for
Speaker:them, which helped them improve their facilities and get blokes
Speaker:down to there. I mean, honestly, the
Speaker:list is so big of what we've done, like paid for weddings,
Speaker:we've paid for funerals. We've
Speaker:helped out when there's been an outcry, we've
Speaker:tried to help where we can. So
Speaker:And that's only the stuff that has been recorded.
Speaker:via like the actual posts itself by donation. Absolutely. The
Speaker:amount of boys that- Man, behind the scenes? Yeah, that have gotten around other
Speaker:stuff. And like, I mean, how many boys have gone out and
Speaker:just, I think it was only a couple of months ago, someone put a post up about an old bloke in
Speaker:a house and a whole bunch of guys went around and just fixed his house
Speaker:Yeah, nothing to do with us. It was just a connection. That happened when
Speaker:Cairns flooded as well. The boys with the boats went out
Speaker:and helped. I think something happened with flyers over in WA recently.
Speaker:Yeah, exactly. So it's just, yeah,
Speaker:the power of the group's just been fantastic. Like it
Speaker:When Zuckerberg's not bending us over. Might have enjoyed it though.
Speaker:Yeah. It's um, going
Speaker:back to The, the 26 K for
Speaker:that, the men's shit. Yeah. It wasn't always meant to
Speaker:It was, um, so like we raised it
Speaker:for beyond blue, but because we didn't
Speaker:go down the right raising. platform or
Speaker:whatever, they wouldn't accept the money. And
Speaker:then I'm pretty sure I tried a
Speaker:couple of like those mental health kind of charities and
Speaker:no one wanted to take the money because it wasn't done through their correct like
Speaker:fundraising avenues. So
Speaker:it just got to the point where I was like, well, how about we just help, let's
Speaker:help someone local who's struggling and try and make a
Speaker:difference that way. So yeah. Probably
Speaker:made a bigger impact. 100%. 100% it would have.
Speaker:Not knocking Beyond Blue, but a little bit ridiculous that they
Speaker:Yeah. We touched on this on a couple of episodes ago that
Speaker:But it takes so much to actually do good. It's kind
Speaker:We'll also just, on the record, we'll take anything that
Speaker:anyone wants to throw our way. We're not picky. No.
Speaker:We're not picky. No, we're not. We're not picky. Clearly
Speaker:Yeah. We just need a massive Facebook page to be
Speaker:Yeah, there's a couple trying, but I think that's the thing, like BA set
Speaker:It was like, if you go back, Just BA
Speaker:set up this whole different culture. It wasn't there
Speaker:online or anything before BA. So
Speaker:many things stemmed, like the whole bloke this,
Speaker:bloke that, bloke this. As soon as bloke's advice happened,
Speaker:Yeah. It changed everything. And it, it even, it came before the podcast game
Speaker:really kicked off. So like there's all these podcasts now that kind
Speaker:of embody what that BA was. Yeah. There's other... Puppercats. You
Speaker:I stand by that. Me too. It's like, what, cause you
Speaker:didn't invent the term bloke by no means. Bloke's been
Speaker:Yeah. Okay. Sorry. But like you, you
Speaker:definitely like reinvigorated the word in
Speaker:that time, because before that, like Blokesweld, like
Speaker:I reckon they probably got in a little bit
Speaker:earlier. I'm actually not going to knock them at all. They're
Speaker:Should we, um, kick it onto some other points of conversation?
Speaker:Cause we did this episode, like maybe episode four, something
Speaker:like that. And we ended it early and we had a whole
Speaker:bunch of people that were saying it should
Speaker:have gone on longer, but I felt like we couldn't kick it on until
Speaker:Brock got here. Do you know the one I'm talking about? Not a clue. It's
Speaker:This is very tearful. You take this, Dan. What's your favourite one? Where are
Speaker:Yeah, honestly, how much time do you have? How much time do you have?
Speaker:Yeah. Now, do you know what I find interesting at the moment is
Speaker:the whole assassination attempt. What
Speaker:I think it was legitimate. How many people don't like
Speaker:Trump, right? How many people think that America is going to go to
Speaker:shit if Trump gets in? I think a lot of people want
Speaker:You reckon it's scripted? No. Bro, that photo
Speaker:of him, he's got like blood on his face. He's
Speaker:got like the most pathetic secret service team, clearly
Speaker:paid actors, like hugging him. And he's like this, and
Speaker:then he's got the American flag behind him. I'm like, that is the most,
Speaker:it's out of a movie. It's album cover. Man, that
Speaker:Man, do you know what? There's a lot of other words I'd use
Speaker:to describe Biden, apart from lizard man, but also don't
Speaker:No, look what happened with Kyle. No, actually he
Speaker:Oh, tenacious D. I haven't seen that. I
Speaker:He said some inappropriate things as a birthday wish. And
Speaker:can you, can you repeat them or not? Oh, I can. Cause I'm just
Speaker:powerful. You're the, you're the messenger. Yeah. Quotation marks. Quotation marks.
Speaker:So I think it was his birthday in Sydney at their Sydney gig. And
Speaker:for his birthday wish, he wished that the shooter doesn't
Speaker:miss next time. Like, you
Speaker:know, this, this was like two days after, so it was still fresh.
Speaker:They're comedians at the same time. Actually illegal, apparently. Like
Speaker:But also didn't like, um, I read somewhere that Biden had
Speaker:put a bullet. He basically said, put Trump in your bull's
Speaker:Okay. If he said that, why would a radical follower not
Speaker:do what he said? And then it's not scripted. It's legitimate attack
Speaker:on Trump. It could be like, you have to feel like there's a lot of people that
Speaker:Yeah, do you know what, dude? And
Speaker:I love Trump though, so it wasn't me. I
Speaker:Yeah. I'm glad we got that scoop here on this
Speaker:Matt wasn't there. Next, next
Speaker:Not a theory, but what are your thoughts on chemtrails? And
Speaker:this is shout out Alex, by the way, he loves my, uh, made our work with
Speaker:loves me talking about this at work. Cause in Adelaide, you can just see him
Speaker:I don't know enough about chemtrails. Like, is that come down to like cloud
Speaker:It's legit. It's a legit thing. It's been proven that it's a legit thing. They put like
Speaker:Yeah. But why is that? But people think it doesn't happen. People
Speaker:It still is though. That's my thoughts. Exactly. It's a fact. But
Speaker:people are like, oh, you're a conspiracy theorist. Take your tinfoil hat off. And I'm like, yeah,
Speaker:Oh, bro. That's a conspiracy. Is
Speaker:there a number I can call? Like, fuck all the police? You
Speaker:know, I actually called the police because I got robbed. There's been an assault. Yeah,
Speaker:I guess assault on my manhood, but like also robbed. So
Speaker:I hadn't had a haircut in a while. Um, booked one
Speaker:last night. So like your normal haircut price at
Speaker:the moment, like I told you guys at Brachy this morning, it was like your normal haircut
Speaker:price is between 50, 50 and 60 bucks. I
Speaker:A one all over? Yeah. What do you do it yourself? No, but then they do my beard and
Speaker:Yeah. My guy. So like, you know, and I'll lay back and they towel
Speaker:my face and then they put all this smelly shit under there. And
Speaker:then. I'm getting hot and sweaty too. Nah, but I actually,
Speaker:this is going to be a bit rough to hear this. I got violated last
Speaker:Like as bad as I did. This is worse. Dude,
Speaker:So I was lying back had my eyes shut
Speaker:while he's doing me big. So I didn't want my little shit to go in my eyes obviously. Hate
Speaker:shit in my eyes. I then come up and one
Speaker:of the boys I know is sitting over there. I'm like, Oh, hey, man. He's like,
Speaker:yeah, I didn't go down to the gym later on the day. And
Speaker:up on the all-star boxing pages story, he's put me sleeping with
Speaker:Like he didn't even know the photo was, didn't even have a clue
Speaker:Yeah, well, I, yeah, I got, I
Speaker:Yeah. Again, but you know what? I got raped, man,
Speaker:Financially. Financially. So yeah. Woke
Speaker:in, walked in this morning. Lovely dude. Not
Speaker:So, $60, like I was saying, normal price for a
Speaker:haircut between $50 and $60. So, I was happy to pay that.
Speaker:Went in and I was like, man, do you reckon like – I haven't touched my beard. I was just
Speaker:like, do you reckon – half a bid. I was like, can
Speaker:you just line it up? Make it look just a little bit neater than it is. And he's like, oh
Speaker:man, you booked in for a 45 like minute session. I
Speaker:don't know if I'll be able to do it. And I was like, oh, okay, no stress. All
Speaker:good. So anyway, I got to the end, he pumped it out in half an hour. So he goes, we've
Speaker:got 15 minutes free. I can do it if you want. I
Speaker:was like, that'd be fantastic. So gave me like
Speaker:a little line up there, just like kind of shaved under here a little bit, ran
Speaker:the trimmer through there. That was it. Took him probably five minutes max. Did the whole
Speaker:tower, like tower treatment. Got up to the counter and
Speaker:it was $95 on the thing. And I just kind
Speaker:of, it was one of those moments where you just go, you tap
Speaker:it and then you walk out and I was like, I just got assaulted. And
Speaker:then I phoned my fiance and I said, I've just been robbed. I
Speaker:just got robbed. Classic Gold Coast. So $35 to line
Speaker:up your beard and just take a little bit off that. So it was essentially I
Speaker:Yeah. See, the barber I go to, it's
Speaker:50 bucks cash. It's just cash. It's all cash. Yeah.
Speaker:That's beard and hair. Mind you, it doesn't take much to cut. I was going to
Speaker:say, I'll do it for 50 bucks. Well, usually Jess does it. Do you give
Speaker:her 50 bucks? No. Oh,
Speaker:wow. Yeah. Yeah. Shit. Now I feel bad. I would,
Speaker:Yeah. Before you
Speaker:got financially assaulted by the barber. Yeah.
Speaker:your clustered fight of
Speaker:a travel up BJS style. You came from Adelaide. I
Speaker:did come from Adelaide. Where you now live with
Speaker:the missus and the little one. Yep. And you're doing an apprenticeship.
Speaker:It's very loosely, very loosely. They
Speaker:So yeah, I started, um,
Speaker:when I moved back from the Sunshine Coast, I started that and
Speaker:yeah, it's been, been fantastic ever since. So
Speaker:How are you finding, going back on the tools, like
Speaker:Yeah, definitely. My body hurts a lot more. Um,
Speaker:just like you see some of these young kids just like throwing
Speaker:around stuff. And I'm like, man, I used to be able to do that, but
Speaker:like, I can't anymore. Like you do that. I'm like, that's a back, that's my
Speaker:knees. And like, you're wearing a nail bag around all day and it's just, yeah,
Speaker:the wear and tear on your body is definitely, um, Yeah,
Speaker:it hurts. It hurts. You definitely come home like a
Speaker:little bit more tired and just don't have that pep
Speaker:in your step you had when you were 20. But no, it's been
Speaker:good. I'm lucky enough to work with some good guys. Got
Speaker:a fantastic boss. Shout out Jesse to
Speaker:give me the time off to come down here and do this. He's a big believer in what we're doing.
Speaker:Yeah, I was going to correct him too. I hate it when people do that. Yeah. What? You
Speaker:You came up. Yeah. Man, it's
Speaker:my pet peeve too, but I'm so used to like being
Speaker:in Queensland and going down. We'll just move back to
Speaker:Queensland then. Don't worry, mate. It's on the
Speaker:cards. It's getting off that plane and it being like
Speaker:20 degrees sunshine and yesterday, like Adelaide,
Speaker:You can tell that you've adjusted, like we're both sitting here in hoodies and you're just... Man,
Speaker:I was walking around in shorts and a shirt yesterday afternoon and
Speaker:people were like, aren't you cold? I was like, bro, it's like...
Speaker:I was telling you boys, um, at breakfast, there was a day, a
Speaker:couple of weeks ago, it was actually a couple of days that it
Speaker:dropped to like zero degrees in Adelaide. So
Speaker:it was like the coldest, the coldest morning on history in Adelaide, where
Speaker:it, it was like zero degrees and felt like
Speaker:negative three. So I had, I had a singlet, my
Speaker:long sleeve, my jumper, a jacket, and
Speaker:like a vest on over that. And I was still like uncomfortable.
Speaker:So yeah, it's not, um, it's not ideal.
Speaker:So yeah, I think we'll probably in the next couple of years start trying to
Speaker:make some little adjustments to, to get back
Speaker:To get back to God's country. Yeah. It is the best
Speaker:state to be in. It is absolutely the best state. Like there is
Speaker:Probably don't bring that up if you want to keep all your teeth. If I'm being fair
Speaker:After we finished these episodes, sometimes he's shadow
Speaker:When we walked in, we both, we both went to shadow box each other. And we're like, uh,
Speaker:Um, something that you've been thrown into pretty
Speaker:hard by the sounds of things is parenthood. Yeah. So
Speaker:I'm the dude that doesn't know about kids. We can tell. For the
Speaker:How old is he? You're lucky you're pretty. Let's
Speaker:restart that. So you're a new dad, bro. Yeah, thank you. Congrats.
Speaker:How are you finding being a dad? Yeah, good. I'm, I'm really lucky.
Speaker:I like I have a fantastic fiance who is
Speaker:just the greatest mother and partner. She
Speaker:makes being a parent very, very easy. We've
Speaker:got a pretty easy kid. He's very highly strung, like
Speaker:me. He's very go, go, go. But He's
Speaker:good. We get 12 hours sleep a night. He goes down at seven, gets
Speaker:up at seven. So that's pretty good. Yeah. Yeah. I don't
Speaker:get that. Yeah. So he's, um, he's a,
Speaker:it's man, it comes down to my, my fiance, man. She's just
Speaker:a, an absolute guru at being
Speaker:a, being a mother. So she's just got all his nap times down to a
Speaker:tea. She's got everything. She runs a tight ship, runs
Speaker:a tight ship, but it's good because it just means we get sleep.
Speaker:Seriously, you kind of have to have all your wits about you. Don't
Speaker:get me wrong, there's a couple of nights that might be a rough night where he's up
Speaker:a little bit, but you definitely feel that a little bit more in
Speaker:the mornings. All in all, I've been
Speaker:Has it been that long? As long as it has. Yeah.
Speaker:If you move down there, just as she, if they months, I
Speaker:use in like months, it gets into like, cause I, it's like a
Speaker:year and three months, you know? So like, but I think
Speaker:Why don't you just use weeks? Like, Oh yeah. I've
Speaker:Yeah. Cool. All right. Maybe I was like, no, maybe I
Speaker:I'm prepared to let you just to see what that looks like. I don't
Speaker:know, man. He's a big, he's a big boy. It's Oregon. It's gonna look
Speaker:I think that's exactly what it would look like, but we might have
Speaker:to find out cause who was talking shit about some
Speaker:other podcasts earlier. Someone was talking shit and
Speaker:Sounds like Brock's definitely the shit talker between the three of us. Yeah.
Speaker:Maybe. Yeah. But you know, look,
Speaker:if anything does happen with any podcast competitions,
Speaker:Yeah. So Brock versus Spaniel or something. We just get him in
Speaker:He's such a G, isn't he? He's such a G. He's a weapon of
Speaker:He's a G. Yeah. See, that's another bloke going back
Speaker:to what we were talking about before with sort of BA turning into
Speaker:what it is now. He's done the same thing. Absolutely. All
Speaker:his shit that he started with, he was, Pretty thug.
Speaker:He's great. He's great. He still is. But he's like, he's grown with his
Speaker:following. Yeah. And shout out to Spaniel. And
Speaker:if you want to jump on here, I will a hundred percent fly back for that
Speaker:because yeah, that is a, that's a dude that has
Speaker:my respect that, that the light, one of the latest ones
Speaker:where he was somewhere in, I think it was South America and
Speaker:Yeah. Nuts. And all you need to look at is
Speaker:like what he's doing. overseas with
Speaker:like he's into the hoods and all that sort of stuff. There was a couple of, I think maybe a
Speaker:month or two back, um, that whoever
Speaker:was helping him get over there was like, Oh, we want you to do this. And he was like, no, fuck
Speaker:you. I'm not like, like this is a hood because it's
Speaker:like a third world country that you're in a hood because they want to promote
Speaker:it or whatever. And he just went like, nah, I'm not, I'm
Speaker:not getting about this because they can't help that. And I was just like, fuck that.
Speaker:And that's, I like when he jumps on his stories and he says this kind
Speaker:of stuff and it's, you know, less scripted than the YouTube
Speaker:videos. It's very authentic. And I think he's found his,
Speaker:his sort of pace at talking about himself and what
Speaker:he believes. He's just sharing it like authentically and
Speaker:I don't, do you know what? I don't think he lasts a round. No?
Speaker:Nah. Cause to be honest, I'm pretty quick. So I'd
Speaker:This is where you look down the barrel and you say that. I don't
Speaker:Oh, don't think you'd last a round. That's
Speaker:You'd have him. I'm confident. I'm putting money on you. It'll
Speaker:Yeah. I think it'd be like a hundred bucks, a
Speaker:hundred. I think the Spaniard would be like a dollar one. Actually, I
Speaker:think he'd probably be paying like 99 cents. You'd actually lose money betting
Speaker:Yeah. Yeah. Well, that's, that's fair, but fair
Speaker:judge pigs. Is it like F A I R
Speaker:or F A R E? That's a different one.
Speaker:Speaking of 50 cent fares in Queensland now, another reason for you to Come
Speaker:50 cent fare. I thought you meant like a fare for 50 cent. It
Speaker:Yeah. We can finish this podcast off with a
Speaker:I reckon. Yeah. Is there anything else you want to get out there before we
Speaker:Not really, unless you two- Have you got
Speaker:any big plans coming up with,
Speaker:like what's your, so you said like long-term you want to move back
Speaker:Yeah, I guess it's just finishing off my apprenticeship, gaining
Speaker:all the knowledge to put me in a good spot for if we do move that
Speaker:I can kind of fit into any company or construction
Speaker:mob up here. If that's the direction that like
Speaker:me and the family want to go. Not really,
Speaker:mate. It's just getting our house finished down at home, like down back
Speaker:in SA, a little bit to go there and then, yeah,
Speaker:You can't finish a fucking car. Buy
Speaker:Fair call. Fair call. No, we didn't finish.
Speaker:We actually sold the bus. Oh, you don't. Yeah. Okay. Sold the bus. That's actually
Speaker:a bit of a touchy subject, Matt. You're getting really closer to losing those teeth
Speaker:And then Valiant as well. Poor Rob. You
Speaker:He was showing me earlier. He's like, I'm looking at entering
Speaker:my first ever one of those raffle giveaways. And it was Mighty Car
Speaker:Mods. Yeah, Mighty Car Mods. They're giving away a car trailer. And
Speaker:Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, a car
Speaker:Yeah, that's true. I'll get there. I actually, I
Speaker:actually bought some lotto tickets last night. Did you? Yeah, 10 mil. Don't
Speaker:What's the first thing that, what do you want? I'd like to finish the valve. I'll finish the
Speaker:Thanks, man. I'll finish the valve for you. Oh, cool. That's it. Do you want another Swift?
Speaker:No, they're still going. And they're expensive. The new ones are like $36,000. Oh, too
Speaker:You can't have one of them. We're just going to keep talking shit
Speaker:Yes. On that note guys, we're going
Speaker:to call it quits. It was so good having you on and having a recap on
Speaker:all those early days. People still talk about the glory
Speaker:I think the glory days are to come. I think so too. We're on
Speaker:a different path. What we're doing now is
Speaker:I think once we kind of... And like, sorry, to bring
Speaker:back to what you said, big plans, I think it's this. I think this is
Speaker:the ultimate goal at the moment is us getting
Speaker:traction with Better Blokes Project and getting art like
