Melissa Deally:

Welcome back to another episode of health hack as I continue talking about gut health, and today I'm going to be talking about gut health in relation to skin issues, and the Inside Out connection. So often if we have skin issues like acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, we go to the doctor and we get given some kind of a topical treatment to treat it. And we're not actually looking at what is the root cause of these skin issues, and is it, in fact, happening inside? And the answer to that is yes, all of our skin issues are actually starting with imbalances in our gut. And so we want to look at what's going on in the gut that is healing these it can be triggered by food sensitivities, and the unhappier our gut is, the more food sensitivities we tend to have. And so doing a food sensitivity lab test is one really easy way to figure this out, I've worked with clients with eczema that have struggled with eczema and psoriasis for a long time, and when we address their gut issues, they actually can resolve these issues. Acne, yes, it can be hormonal. However, it is also very often due to food sensitivities, as well as some of these skin issues are caused by toxicities in the gut. And when we do detoxes, and we start to get those toxins out of our body, and one of our detox pathways is the skin, we can actually clear up our skin and have much more beautiful skin. And that was my experience with adult acne, and I wondered, why did my skin look like a teenager? And when I started to detox and get those toxins out of my body, initially, it got worse as the toxins were leaving my body, and then after the fact, it left me with much healthier skin. So inflammation in our body can also lead to skin issues, and that's another lab test that we can run and help to rebalance the inflammation levels in your body, which we want, healthy inflammation levels. We don't want chronic inflammation levels. Chronic inflammation levels can cause our the switch that turns on our genetics to whatever disease we might be genetically predisposed to, it can turn that on so that that disease starts to manifest. However, that switch never has to get turned on if our inflammation levels are at healthy levels. So when we heal the gut, when we understand our food sensitivities, when we understand the imbalances in the gut, and we know exactly what steps to take that can lead to clear healthier skin. And another important part of this process is the importance of hydration. People are chronically dehydrated and not drinking enough, and therefore flushing their body well enough during the day. Ideally, you want to be drinking 50% of your body weight in water every single day. So if you weigh 150 pounds, that means you want to drink 75 ounces, which is just under 10 cups of water every day that doesn't count your coffee, doesn't count pop, doesn't count juice, it doesn't count any caffeinated beverages. It's literally water your protein shake or smoothie, as well as herbal teas count as hydration and other really specific hydration, such as hydrogen, water, etc. So those are all things to think about.
