Melissa Deally:

Welcome back to another episode of health hacks. And I am continuing to talk about energy because it is just such an important topic. And so many people are struggling to optimize their energy. And today I want to ask you, is your coffee habit, stealing your energy. And the reason I asked that is that I find with many of my clients who I have come off their coffee when they do the detox, that they find they have renewed energy as a result of better sleep, when they kick the coffee habit. And the reason for that is coffee has an eight hour half life. So that cup of coffee that you had at eight o'clock in the morning to kickstart your brain and get you going and feel like you have good mental energy for the day still has half that caffeine running around in your bloodstream eight hours later at 4pm. Which means there's still half of that running around in your bloodstream at midnight when you're trying to go to sleep. And that's only one cup of coffee. If you've had multiple cups of coffee in the day, then you've got even more running around in your bloodstream when you are trying to get to sleep. And this can cause problems with you actually getting to sleep. And with you having a restorative deep sleep. And so you wake up feeling tired, and you repeat the process all over again, starting your day with a cup of coffee. I invite you to slowly if you have a big coffee habit to slowly start to decrease the amount of coffee that you're drinking by half a cup every day until you're having no coffee. And notice how that actually can improve your sleep. And then when you have improved sleep, you wake up feeling rested and restored and you don't need that coffee to start your day. Now if you love the flavor of coffee, you can switch to a decaf. There's a herbal tea called dandy blend that actually tastes like coffee and yet it's a herbal tea. It doesn't have the caffeine in it. And so there are some options where you can still enjoy your habit of a nice warm drink that coffee flavor without it negatively impacting your energy. So if you're someone struggling with energy struggling to get to sleep at night, waking up feeling tired. This could be why give it a try. Cut back on the coffee and see how that can positively impact you. We're all different. We all have different sensitivities to coffee, and you might be someone that this can really benefit
