Speaker B

Welcome back to the Elevated Edit Podcast.

Speaker B

Today is going to be a short and sweet episode, but it is going to be very impactful.

Speaker B

This is something that I have been actively working on this year.

Speaker B

I'm far from perfect and you will see why, because it's something that is a challenge to work on.

Speaker B

But to me, I feel like it's something that's so important and so I am willing to have a slow crawl of an improvement if I can make even a tiny dent in this in my life.

Speaker B

And that is choosing my words carefully.

Speaker B

Your words are really powerful.

Speaker B

And yes, it is important what we say to others.

Speaker B

Obviously, words can cause a lot of harm.

Speaker B

They can cause hurt feelings, anger, confusion, isolation, all of the things.

Speaker B

But today we're going to focus on what we say to ourselves.

Speaker B

And this is so important because what we say to ourselves shapes our reality.

Speaker B

And oftentimes when we are speaking to ourselves, we are doing it on autopilot.

Speaker B

We're not even consciously choosing the way that we speak to ourselves and our vocabulary matters.

Speaker B

And it can literally change our lives.

Speaker B

And especially for us high achieving, multi passionate women, mastering our inner dialogue is one of the most impactful things that we can do.

Speaker B

It's not only going to create clarity, but it also creates alignment, which brings more ease into our lives and things just start to line up for us.

Speaker B

So why do words matter?

Speaker B

If your inner dialogue is negative, you can't be surprised when you end up with negative outcomes in your life.

Speaker B

You might be able to think of someone who this applies to.

Speaker B

And if you're like me, this might apply to you.

Speaker B

And if it does, don't feel bad about it.

Speaker B

I have been the same way.

Speaker B

I'm still the same way in a lot of different situations.

Speaker B

But there will be someone in your life who is always running late.

Speaker B

They are always forgetting things, they're always losing things, they are always running into situations or having accidents or getting sick.

Speaker B

You know, it's.

Speaker B

It's always something.

Speaker B

And oftentimes when you hear this person and the way they speak about themselves, it is very indicative of why these things keep happening.

Speaker B

Because this person will constantly say, well, I'm just accident prone, or this is just something that always happens to me.

Speaker B

One that I'm really bad about is, and I say this out loud all the time, is I will say, oh, don't hand anything to me because I always lose stuff.

Speaker B

And then guess what?

Speaker B

I do.

Speaker B

I lose things.

Speaker B

And so that is one thought that I'm actively trying to reframe.

Speaker B

Because you're going to end up proving yourself right.

Speaker B

So that's why it's so important that we choose our words.

Speaker B

And one last thing that I hear people say a lot, and this one, I think is super powerful.

Speaker B

And I've said this before too, but I would say, well, I'm just waiting for the next ball to drop.

Speaker B

And when you really kind of like dissect that, it's like, wow, you're literally sitting there waiting for problems.

Speaker B

You are looking for problems.

Speaker B

You're telling your brain, hey, I am waiting on a problem.

Speaker B

Can you go ahead and give it to me?

Speaker B

And if you think about it like that, it's like, wow, what we say to ourselves really is so important.

Speaker B

Another great example, and I think we can all relate to this one.

Speaker B

Especially in December, the holiday season is so busy for everyone.

Speaker B

But if you have a full day and look, there's no judgment on this, this is something I am literally struggling with every day.

Speaker B

That's why I'm doing a podcast episode about it, so that I can remind myself just as much as I remind you.

Speaker B

But if you look at your calendar and you wake up and you say, oh, this is going to be such a long day, your brain is going to immediately start looking for proof to support that.

Speaker B

So you're going to have a flat tire, someone's gonna get sick, you are going to get in a traffic jam, you're going to end up having to stay late somewhere, somebody else is going to be running late.

Speaker B

There's.

Speaker B

You're going to have find all of this proof that it was a long time.

Speaker B

But if you reframe your thoughts, and this is not easy, like, I think we have 60,000 something thoughts on average.

Speaker B

The average human has 60,000 thoughts a day.

Speaker B

So if you think about it like that, it's going to take a lot of work to actually make a dent in reframing our thoughts in a way that's going to impact our lives.

Speaker B

But if you can have some kind of awareness and say, instead of saying, oh, this is going to be such a long day, say, I'm grateful for all the opportunities today, your brain is going to shift Just a little bit.

Speaker B

And instead of looking for proof that it's going to be a long day or proof that it's going to be a bad day, your brain, brain is going to start looking for proof that there are opportunities.

Speaker B

So you're going to run into someone who gives you an opportunity that you might have missed before or you're going to find a $20 bill on the ground or whatever it is.

Speaker B

And look, those things were going to be there in the first place, but your brain wasn't going to be looking for them.

Speaker B

Like I don't think all of this is woo woo magic, all that stuff.

Speaker B

If you believe in that, that's perfectly fine.

Speaker B

I personally don't.

Speaker B

I think a 20 bill can be on the ground and if I'm looking for opportun opportunity, I'm going to see it and a 20 bill can be on the ground.

Speaker B

And if I'm looking for problems, I am going to trip right before I get there and break a nail and be complaining on the phone to my husband and walk right past the 20 bill.

Speaker B

Like that's how I, that's how like granular and simple.

Speaker B

I truly think this is like we genuinely look for opportunities or we look for problems.

Speaker B

And that is why our inner dialogue is so incredibly important.

Speaker B

And like I said, this is not about being perfect, it is just about building awareness, being aware of it, stopping, catching yourself and going, oh, maybe I need to reframe that just a little bit or how can I reframe this just a little bit?

Speaker B

And at first you'll feel really silly.

Speaker B

Like you're gonna feel really cheesy and corny at first.

Speaker B

One thing that I typically have negative thoughts about is going to an event or going somewhere with a lot of.

Speaker B

I usually have fun when I get there, but I typically run into issues at the very beginning because I've told myself I don't want to go, I'm going to have to talk to all these people I don't want to talk to.

Speaker B

It's not going to be fun, blah blah blah.

Speaker B

You know, I tell myself all these things and then the minute I walk in the door there's somebody that I don't want to talk to and then I get stuck in a 10 minute conversation with them.

Speaker B

My energy when I walk in the room is really negative and so people don't want to come talk to me.

Speaker B

You know, that's the nights where you end up in the corner, you're like, I don't really know anybody, I don't really want to talk to anybody versus if you reframe that thought and you say, wow, I am really excited for tonight.

Speaker B

I cannot wait to see all the opportunities that are in front of me.

Speaker B

You walk in the room, your energy is good, People come over and talk to you.

Speaker B

The food is great, the music is awesome.

Speaker B

You get a little dance in, even if it's not a dance party.

Speaker B

I always say you can always turn every event into a dance party or a karaoke party.

Speaker B

It just depends on the vibe.

Speaker B

The vibes are good.

Speaker B

And then you run into someone and they say, oh, wow, have you heard about this new thing that we're trying out?

Speaker B

I think it would be great for you, whatever that opportunity is.

Speaker B

Like, you will.

Speaker B

You will literally see.

Speaker B

This is how I've worked on this this year, and it's actively happened for me.

Speaker B

And like I said, it feels cheesy.

Speaker B

It feels silly.

Speaker B

You'll mess it up.

Speaker B

At first.

Speaker B

It's not going to feel natural.

Speaker B

But slowly you're going to start being like, oh, wow, I can look for opportunities.

Speaker B

And this is not to say that negative things aren't going to happen.

Speaker B

Chaos isn't still going to happen.

Speaker B

Accidents aren't going to happen.

Speaker B

Life is life.

Speaker B

But instead of looking at them as like, oh, well, this just always happens to me, you can look at it and go, okay, what am I going to learn from this?

Speaker B

Like, what kind of connection am I going to get from this?

Speaker B

Am I going to have an opportunity that wasn't presented to me before?

Speaker B

And that's why this is so worth sticking to, because it really works.

Speaker B

So this is a practical example I'm going to leave you with today.

Speaker B

Instead of saying, you know, say something comes up today.

Speaker B

Instead of telling yourself, I can't believe I have to deal with this.

Speaker B

Reframe that thought and tell yourself, I have the chance to learn something new today.

Speaker B

And like I said, it's not going to be easy at first.

Speaker B

It's not going to feel natural.

Speaker B

You're probably going to be like, oh, God, Blakely has got her head in the clouds and she is just talking nonsense over there.

Speaker B

Glad that works for her, but this isn't working for me.

Speaker B

But just try it.

Speaker B

Reframe from I can't believe I have to deal with this to I have the chance to learn something new today and just see if it feels a tiny bit better.

Speaker B

I really do think that it will.

Speaker B

And you don't have to, but track your progress on this.

Speaker B

Maybe keep a note in your phone and journal once a month for five minutes and say, you know, these were five things that happened and I reframe my thoughts around them and they worked out a little bit better than I expected.

Speaker B

And because if you can keep going back and seeing your progress, it is going to inspire you to work on your thoughts even more.

Speaker B

And then you'll constantly see opportunities, you'll constantly see people you want to connect with, you'll constantly see chances to give back to others, you'll constantly be open to others giving to you.

Speaker B

And I think in a month like December, where for me at least, it feels very family oriented, very community oriented, that is something that is so pivotal.

Speaker B

So remember, changing your inner dialogue takes time, but it is truly one of the most important shifts you can make.

Speaker B

Your words genuinely create your reality, so choose them wisely.

Speaker B

If this episode resonated with you, it will probably resonate with a friend of yours as well.
