K66-1:Welcome back to another episode of systemize her. I'm your host, Leah. And today we are talking about tech. So the most common thing that I hear amongst my clients and my audience in general is the phrase, I'm not tech savvy. I feel like that is such a big barrier with so many of you. So I thought what better way to address it and to help you build your confidence in tech than to make a podcast episode about it. I am not going to. Try to diminish the fact that tech tools can definitely feel overwhelming at first, especially when you're not used to them. However, my goal in today's episode is to one, talk about how we can simplify our approach to tech, start with our easy wins and then build from there. So when we're talking about tech, it doesn't have to be all of the fancy that we immediately think about when we think about systems and workflows, we can literally start with wherever you are comfortable and then build from there. Today, I'm going to have three tips for you how you can go ahead and get started with tech in order to start where you are, simplify the process and build your confidence without getting overwhelmed. Let's talk about first why tech feels so intimidating. Honestly in today's world, it is really hard to function without some sort of a tech, whether you're using Alexa or Siri to turn your lights on and off or arm your computer. alarm system at your home, um, using your calendar now. I know like all of the iPhones have updated and all the Apple products in general have updated to using AI for a lot of different things to summarize your mail, summarizing your text messages. AI is everywhere. Tech is everywhere. And I can understand how it can be so overwhelming because it's like, where do I begin? What's important? Um, is it something that I can trust? There's just so many different things that come up when we start to talk about tech. And I know so much has changed just in my lifetime, so I know that, and I'm in my 30s, so I know that if you were born any time before then, it's just insane how much has changed and I don't blame you for being so uncomfortable when it comes to tech. But I want you to embrace the newness. I want you to still not shy away from the tech. It is here. It's going to stay there. It's very hard to get around it. And so the best way to get around it is to go through it, to experiment, to explore. Honestly, set aside some time because If you are uncomfortable with tech, the only way that you can get comfortable with it is spending some time with it. So start spending some time with it. Honestly, you can get stuck for hours trying to navigate just one tool, trying to figure out all the features and navigating with not very much guidance. I mean, there's YouTube university. You have people like me that are helping to try to walk you through some of these things, but the best experience is going to be your own hands on experience exploring these tech tools. So number one, before I even get into any of the tips is going to be that you need to embrace a learning mindset. You are going to have to start tackling these tools, not getting frustrated with the tool or with yourself, because honestly making progress each and every day towards getting comfortable with them is going to help you be successful as you're navigating tech in general. Okay. We're looking for progress. We're not looking for perfection. I don't want you to go out there and feel defeated because you spent. An hour or two hours or whatever exploring this new tool and you don't know how to use it. But before you just go Google the tech tools I need for my business, let's get into the three tips for getting going, because I know that's why you're here. We're going to get right into it, dive right in and get you these three tips so you can get in, get started right after this episode and build that momentum and that comfort level when it comes to tech competence. So tip number one. Stop clicking on every ad and influencer link that you see. Yeah, I know I'm coming in hot with this one. But, I want you guys to think back, if your mom was anything like mine, what did she used to say when you went into the store? When you go in here, don't touch nothing. Right? I'm telling you the same thing with tech. Instead of clicking on every single thing that you see, every little link that kind of piques your interest, I encourage you to start a list. Start an explore list of different tools that you run across. I would of course do this in Notion if it were me, but you can start a Google Doc. Um, I would definitely make it digital though, so that it travels with you. Y'all know I'm a fan of digital, so even if that means just a Google Doc, that's okay. But, you know, Notion is my choice. So, you start your list and I want you guys to have at least two columns. One that is just the name of whatever it is and then another column that is the category that it falls under. For example, if you are seeing an ad for Dubsado, that falls under CRM or Client Relationship Manager. If you see an ad for ChatGPT, that's something that falls under AI. If you see Something about time management, something about a marketing manager, any of those things. Just think about what your categories could be, and that is what I would want you to start categorizing each of these tag, each of these tools as, as you run across them. So, what happens is that we see something, we get super excited about it, and we're like, oh, I need to explore it right now before I forget. Now, instead of, Worrying about forgetting, you are giving it a place, you are holding it in your box, in your explore list until you are ready to act on that thing. So, for example, I ran across a new marketing tool and at that time I was not ready to explore it, so I added it to my resources list. I still have not gone back to really deep dive into that tool. But, as I start to focus more on marketing efforts, I'm going to go back to that tool and then choose to do some exploring at that time. This way I know what I'm looking for in regard to that topic, and since that is something that I'm currently working on, I can give it my full attention to decide if it's a tool that's right for me or not. Don't forget the or not, because not every tool is for you. I have recently been exploring quite a few different tools that I am thinking about using as it pertains to, um, my education resources on tech and systems and things, and there have been quite a few tools that I'm like, this is a great tool, I have nothing bad to say about it. However, it is not a great fit for the direction that I'm trying to take my audience and my customers and my clients. So it is okay if you put a tool there and then by the time you come back to this list you're like, Eh, I actually don't need it. It's fine. But that is the whole point. You want to have a list of things, put them in a place so that when it is time to look through that list and to sift through what you actually need, you are of clear mind and you're not operating off of Oh, I was doing this other thing. I ran across this tool and now I'm trying to deep dive into it and shift my mindset into a place that I wasn't even at in the first place, right? So number one, stop clicking on every ad and link that you see on Beyonce's internet. Tip number two is to stop telling yourself that you're not tech savvy. Okay. Stop saying that as long as you keep saying that you can't do something, you never will be able to do that. You don't have to be savvy to utilize tech. Start where you are and build from there. If all you can do right now is transition from a paper calendar to a Google calendar, then that is fine. You have to start somewhere and that doesn't mean that you begin with like coding Most tools now have plenty of tutorials and resources for helping you to navigate the tool. This tip is all about mindset. You have got to stop with the, I'm not tech savvy. Again, we are in 2025 tech rules. Everything just about. You run into some sort of tech at least daily. If you're listening to this podcast, you had to navigate tech just to get to the show. So, don't say that you're not tech savvy. Say that you are learning, you are exploring, you are a student. of technology and you are going to apply yourself so that you can feel more comfortable and confident as you navigate it. I'm not telling you to go out and be a systems person. That's okay. You do not have to be a systems educator. You do not have to dive that deep, but you do have to figure out how it makes sense in your business. What tools you need to be successful in order to make your life easier, make your customer or your client's life easier, be more efficient in your workflows or your processes, whatever it is, you've got to figure out what your goal is going to be here and then the extent in which you are willing to dive in to get there. So I don't need you to be savvy, I need you to be smart, and I need you to try. Okay? So tip number two is really, Cut and dry. It just is what it is. Stop saying that you're not tech savvy. Apply yourself and let's get you there. Most tools now have plenty of tutorials and resources for helping you to navigate a tool. So if there's something that you don't know, most of the time there are tutorials. That will help you. And if not, that brings me to tip number three. Tip number three is to find a guide. The entire reason that I created the Systemize Her podcast and the Systemize Her community is because I wanted to give side hustling women a place that they can go to for system support. Like I said, you don't have to be a tech expert or tech savvy to join the community to listen to this podcast. That is literally my job. Inside of the Systemize Her community, Those ladies that are there are not tech girlies for the most part. These are amazing women that are building these amazing businesses and part of building a business online involves navigating tech to do so. What we do inside of there is we look for the easiest lift for you and your business and then we navigate from there. Are there some Women in there that are super tech savvy that are doing some of these higher level things? Absolutely. But are there some in there that are like, I have barely made a Google Calendar, and I don't know what I can do more than that, because that was quite overwhelming for me. Yes, it's okay. All of the women in there are across the spectrum, and my job is to guide you all, meet you where you are at, and then get you to the point that you desire to be, okay? My goal is not to teach you how to be me, and honestly, that was a mistake that I made early on in business, is I was trying to create a curriculum and to create a program teaching, business owners to be systems people. And for most of you, that's not what you want. You want to be able to build your business and feel confident in the systems and the processes and the workflows that you have implemented, but you have no desire to build these huge, crazy, robust automations and online systems. And that's okay. My goal always has been to. Educate you and to help you get to the point where you can build the back end of your business and be comfortable with it. And then to eventually be able to have people that come in and help you to maintain those systems. So if that means that you have a VA that is just maintaining some of that back end that you've already built. I know that there are some out there that will build systems for you and that is a service that I have offered in the past. That's something that I sometimes will do for others is to build a system for them. But ultimately my goal is to teach you how to do it yourself because at this stage in business early on, things change so much. You think that this is something that you're going to offer. You try it out and then you decide that, Ooh, I don't actually want to offer this, or I don't want to offer it in this way. And then it changes. That is the whole reason why I want to empower you to get comfortable with the tech, to start exploring the tech, because ultimately I want you to be confident enough to set something up in a way that makes sense to you, use it, and then be able to change it if you need to. I don't want you spending thousands of dollars on something that has never been tested, and then you go and realize that you've wasted your money now because you don't even want to use it anymore. Okay, so find yourself a guide. Of course, I'm going to recommend myself because why not? But find yourself someone whether it be me or someone else that is going to help you navigate either the specific tool that you're looking to navigate or That's going to help you just navigate tech in general. Okay, like I said Systemize Her, the Systemize Her podcast here and the community offers user friendly resources, tutorials, we have our help desk, um, inside of the community, we do office hours, we do co working sessions, we do masterclasses, um, we have lots of ongoing support to make tech much less overwhelming.
