Speaker AWhen it comes to remodeling or renovating your home, there is a lot to know and we have gotcha covered.
Speaker AThis is around the House.
Speaker AWelcome to the Round the House show, the next generation of home improvement.
Speaker AI'm Eric G.
Speaker AThanks for joining me today.
Speaker AThis is our weekday update.
Speaker AThis is our update that happens between the shows on the weekend that maybe the stuff that we didn't cover then and aren't going to cover next weekend.
Speaker AAnd we've got an interesting one today that I thought we've really never talked about this, but it's such an important one.
Speaker AAnd before though we do that, let's talk about our sponsor, Monument Grills.
Speaker ACheck them out.
Speaker AThey have a brand new series out there, the Evanescence series.
Speaker AThese are smart grills, touchscreens you can use in full daylight or at night.
Speaker AIt'll tell you how much propane you got.
Speaker AYou could set your cook, do all the things you can with a smart barbecue and you can save some money doing it.
Speaker ALit knobs.
Speaker ADepending on the series you're looking for within this, they've got three models that just came out last week and they are killer.
Speaker ACheck them out@montymc grills.com well, I wanted to talk today and have a little more of a serious conversation.
Speaker AIt's something that's not home improvement, but it's really home improvement remodeling related.
Speaker AAnd this is for all you people out there out there that are in some kind of relationship and whether you're married, you know, you've got a spouse, you've got a life partner, doesn't matter.
Speaker ASame rules apply.
Speaker ANow here's the thing.
Speaker AWhen you take on remodeling projects in your home, whether it's a huge project like a kitchen remodel or an exterior remodel or something small like a bathroom, this is going to be one of the largest tests of your relationship.
Speaker ABecause this is where communication, this is where thoughtfulness, this is where discussions, design, planning, all those things have to come together.
Speaker AAnd then you're throwing all these other people in the mix that can cause headaches for you, the contractors, it's all cool at the beginning, but what happens is, is you go through design, you're oh, I'm ready to go, let's go.
Speaker AYou sign the dotted line, people start rolling up into your house and if they're working inside, they are now in your space 40 plus hours a week.
Speaker AAnd that can create a ton of stress because now you've got all this added dimension of these other people making noise.
Speaker ACreating dust in your way, violating your personal space, whatever it is.
Speaker AAnd that can be very taxing.
Speaker ASo my recommendation, and trust me, remodeling has created a ton of relationship stress in my life.
Speaker AAnd I'm the one that's doing a lot of it, too.
Speaker ASo this is something.
Speaker AAnd this last year has not been easy, I'll tell you that.
Speaker ABut these are things that do a little self check and a good discussion to make sure things are good before you start it.
Speaker AGreat example.
Speaker AI had a couple that.
Speaker AI'm going to be a little vague here just because I don't want to violate anyone's privacy.
Speaker AThere's a project.
Speaker AIt was a new build, not in the Portland area where I live now.
Speaker APrevious job.
Speaker AThis couple was so out of control and they were building their dream house, beautiful home, but she was flying off the handle and losing it.
Speaker ANow, this was a new build, so it's not like people were in her space.
Speaker ABut holy smokes, this is the only time that I was close to having call the police to break things up.
Speaker AAnd I am.
Speaker ANo, I have no patience for domestic violence situations.
Speaker AI am not.
Speaker AAnd that is just one of those things that I was like, I had to break it up.
Speaker AAnd it was her, not him, that was being violent.
Speaker AWe were standing there in the laundry room, going over the laundry room cabinets that he had approved and discussed with her.
Speaker AAnd she didn't like it and was trying to make changes and drawings were signed by both of them.
Speaker AAnd she's like, well, I want to do it this way now.
Speaker AI'm like, great, no problem.
Speaker AWe could order more stuff, but we're going to have to change it.
Speaker AYou'll have to have your builder uninstall this.
Speaker AWe'll put some new stuff in.
Speaker AWe'll have to make some changes, get some orders, and we can get this going.
Speaker AWell, he liked the plan that was there.
Speaker AThirty seconds, 60 seconds later, she's throwing haymakers.
Speaker AAnd I wasn't going to put myself in the middle of that, but I had to go, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, with the contractor and say, hey, guys, we're getting to a point here where I'm going to have to call the police in your own home.
Speaker AAnd I don't want to have to do that.
Speaker AThis is so not cool.
Speaker AAnd had to jump in and break it up.
Speaker AThese are the things that happen.
Speaker ANow, hopefully she got the help she needed because violence is never the answer in a relationship like that.
Speaker AEspecially over laundry room cabinetry.
Speaker AYou kidding me?
Speaker AGet a grip.
Speaker ABut those are the Things that we don't want to see out there.
Speaker ASo for you people out there listening that are thinking about tackling that project where you're hiring somebody or it's a big diy, maybe take a step back, do a little self evaluation and go, all right, is our relationship in a space?
Speaker AAnd communicate that with your significant other.
Speaker ASit down and go, hey, how are we doing?
Speaker ACan we handle this in our space?
Speaker AWe're at.
Speaker AEverybody has their crap, right?
Speaker AEverybody's got their junk in life.
Speaker AEverybody's got their trauma, everybody's got the drama.
Speaker AThere's always something going on because that's life.
Speaker ABut just think a little bit ahead and go, okay, are we in a good spot to do this or are we better?
Speaker AInstead of spending on that remodel right now, are we better kind of working on that a bit?
Speaker ABecause I tell you what, working on that is going to be a heck of a lot better than having a project half done and having two people go separate directions because of it.
Speaker ASo sorry for the not warm and fuzzy one today, guys, but it's one of those things that I want you to think a little bit about.
Speaker AAnd when you're remodeling, communication is the big thing.
Speaker AAnd if someone is having communication problems, that's a problem.
Speaker AYou want to make sure that that gets under control.
Speaker AMaybe you dial that stuff in first and maybe slow your roll on the remodel just a little bit until you get those things fixed first.
Speaker ASo something, you know, food for thought out there.
Speaker ATake a.
Speaker ATake a thought about that.
Speaker AIs that going to be something that's.
Speaker AThat's going to help you along, or is this going to be something that's going to be even worse?
Speaker ASo give it a thought.
Speaker AThink about it.
Speaker AMight save you some headaches, might save you some attorneys.
Speaker ASo think about that just a little bit.
Speaker AIt could be the lifesaver for you and your relationship.
Speaker ASo think about that one.
Speaker AThat could be big.
Speaker AWell, I hope you guys tuned into last weekend's show.
Speaker AThat was a lot of fun.
Speaker AWe had Tony and Corey from Weekend warriors over.
Speaker ASorry for a few audio problems that we had with the.
Speaker AThat's the thing.
Speaker AWhen you do shows live, sometimes things cut out a little bit.
Speaker AWe had a little bit of mic clipping issue there with the Champion Homes, but not much we could do about it.
Speaker AThat's what happens when you do live.
Speaker ASometimes things happen.
Speaker AAnd thanks for listening to that and checking it out.
Speaker AAnd this weekend we've got an amazing show coming up that I can't wait to show.
Speaker AYou.
Speaker AWe've got a lot of different stuff this weekend, and it's not all builder show stuff.
Speaker AWe've got two different things that I'll show you on probably Thursday afternoon and Friday.
Speaker AAnd it's a great show coming up for everybody across the country.
Speaker AAnd we got some design, some building.
Speaker AIt's a good mix.
Speaker AAnd then, man, it's going to be a great one.
Speaker AAnd then this week, of course, I'm out here in Las Vegas at the National Hardware show talking to people, finding new products, stuff that we can talk about.
Speaker AThis is not like the builder show.
Speaker AThe builder show has got everything for inside your home.
Speaker AAnd really this is the stuff.
Speaker AThis week I get to meet all these people that have inventions.
Speaker AIt's basically the stuff that goes in your family.
Speaker ANeighborhood hardware store.
Speaker ASo these are the products, the new little inventions, the outdoor barbecue grills.
Speaker AYou know, it's great hanging out with my friends at Monty McGurl, seeing what they got there, seeing what's out there for garage stuff.
Speaker ASo we're gonna have a lot of content coming up for that.
Speaker ATons of fun.
Speaker ACan't wait to, to show you guys that in the coming weeks.
Speaker ASo it's a great thing and a lot of new stuff, which is exciting because there's some new solutions that we'll, we'll be talking about that.
Speaker ALast year I found so many great things like the IQ vice, my favorite vise for the shop.
Speaker AJust a lot of cool little tools.
Speaker AAnd so we'll be exploring that as well.
Speaker AAll right, well, if you find out, want to find out more about us, head over to aroundthehouse online.com that is our brand new website.
