Speaker:

Hi, this is Ben Hestley of Bull Shark Sports.

Speaker:

Today's tip is about mini-tennis.

Speaker:

Exciting topic right?

Speaker:

But I want to encourage you to become a master of mini-tennis.

Speaker:

Oftentimes, people are warming up for a lesson or a match.

Speaker:

They start short-core, just kind of aimlessly tapping the ball back and forth.

Speaker:

But put some purpose into this practice.

Speaker:

When you're doing mini-tennis, think about how low you can keep the ball.

Speaker:

Can you use underspin and make the ball skim over the net and land on the other side?

Speaker:

Work on your down-the-line shots.

Speaker:

Can you get underspin from the short-court in the alley?

Speaker:

Go cross-court.

Speaker:

Work on angles.

Speaker:

Can you keep the ball low at a sharp angle across the court?

Speaker:

Do mini-tennis with purpose and really work on it.

Speaker:

In doubles especially, a lot of points are one at the net from the front side of the

Speaker:

court.

Speaker:

And we often think about that quote "putaway shot."

Speaker:

But being really good at mini-tennis helps you get in position to hit that high volley

Speaker:

putaway shot.

Speaker:

So when you're out there, think about where the just aimlessly tapping the ball back

Speaker:

and forth and boring mini-tennis.

Speaker:

Have some purpose in a plan behind it.

Speaker:

Really work at it and become a master of mini-tennis and that's going to help you get in

Speaker:

a better position to dictate play from the front part of the court.

Speaker:

Be able to get into the net which we all want to do in doubles and put more balls away.

Speaker:

Hope that helps and again master the mini-tennis.

Speaker:

Well, there you have it.
