Speaker:

So, welcome to the show, Whitney.

Speaker:

It's nice to have you here today.

Speaker:

Yeah, thank you so much.

Speaker:

I'm so happy to be here.

Speaker:

Well, we're excited because you have had a

Speaker:

fun journey with YouTube.

Speaker:

I see your little silver plaque back there.

Speaker:

So, tell us about your YouTube journey.

Speaker:

Yeah, so my YouTube journey is unlike many

Speaker:

other people, I think, because I used to

Speaker:

say I would never start a YouTube channel.

Speaker:

I was terrified of being in front of

Speaker:

the camera, and just the idea of just

Speaker:

having to talk to a camera was not

Speaker:

me personally.

Speaker:

Yeah, I can't talk to a camera.

Speaker:

I didn't think I spoke professionally.

Speaker:

I had this lazy eye I was insecure

Speaker:

about.

Speaker:

My house was not the Instagram-worthy house,

Speaker:

so I was thinking very insecure about what

Speaker:

I had at the time.

Speaker:

And I didn't know how to stay on

Speaker:

track with like, how could I make a

Speaker:

video?

Speaker:

I would just kind of be drifting, right?

Speaker:

So, I just had all these excuses in

Speaker:

my head that I was coming up with

Speaker:

that prevented me from starting a YouTube channel

Speaker:

until I met this guy named Nate O

Speaker:

'Brien.

Speaker:

And when he told me, I asked him,

Speaker:

how much do you make?

Speaker:

Well, he said, well, in the month of

Speaker:

January, I made over $30,000 in just

Speaker:

ad revenue.

Speaker:

So, that was enough for me to say,

Speaker:

where's my camera?

Speaker:

Because I was not going to allow my

Speaker:

fears hold me back from being able to

Speaker:

be a stay-at-home mom and work

Speaker:

on my own schedule.

Speaker:

So, that's when I got over myself and

Speaker:

actually started a YouTube channel.

Speaker:

And one of the things that was holding

Speaker:

me back was being able to stay on

Speaker:

like subject, because I could drift a lot.

Speaker:

I just wanted a tangent on something else.

Speaker:

So, I bought a teleprompter.

Speaker:

And to this day still, I am reading

Speaker:

word for word on my YouTube channel.

Speaker:

So, I'm reading so I can stay on

Speaker:

target.

Speaker:

So, I just always say, you have to

Speaker:

eliminate all excuses.

Speaker:

So, if I can't stay on target, I'm

Speaker:

going to get a teleprompter and just read

Speaker:

my videos.

Speaker:

So, that's what I do.

Speaker:

And that's how I got started my YouTube

Speaker:

channel.

Speaker:

And it has just blossomed into an awesome

Speaker:

passive income source.

Speaker:

So, I really can be a stay-at

Speaker:

-home mom and raise my kids and make

Speaker:

money at the same time.

Speaker:

I love hearing that.

Speaker:

That is so awesome.

Speaker:

I know Jeannie started her business a few

Speaker:

years back, many, many few years back, when

Speaker:

her kids were little.

Speaker:

And yeah, but that is amazing.

Speaker:

And I feel like we do have all

Speaker:

of these excuses.

Speaker:

And it's interesting because the clients that we

Speaker:

work with, some people like Jeannie and like

Speaker:

you like to script every word.

Speaker:

Jeannie is a teleprompter.

Speaker:

She has a different little process.

Speaker:

Some people like a teleprompter.

Speaker:

Give me an outline and let me go

Speaker:

at it.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I love it.

Speaker:

Like you always, I was like that.

Speaker:

Or if I kind of scripted, I just

Speaker:

fumble all over myself.

Speaker:

If I tried to read off a teleprompter,

Speaker:

you know, I would get, yeah, it would

Speaker:

not go well.

Speaker:

We all have to lean into whatever strengths

Speaker:

we have, whatever, whatever works for us.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

Well, you had said earlier, but before we

Speaker:

hit record that you were blogging and that's

Speaker:

where you learned the power of SEO.

Speaker:

I'd love to share with our audience about

Speaker:

that.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So, I was working a nine to five

Speaker:

and I was trying to figure out how

Speaker:

in the world can I make money from

Speaker:

home and work on my own schedule?

Speaker:

And one of the things that I saw

Speaker:

with these bloggers, they were making a hundred

Speaker:

thousand dollars a month.

Speaker:

And I said, if I could just get

Speaker:

a fraction of that, all I needed was

Speaker:

2000.

Speaker:

So I said, okay, let me start a

Speaker:

blog and let me figure this out.

Speaker:

And a guy gave me the idea because

Speaker:

I was literally looking for how actually, actual

Speaker:

moms making money from home.

Speaker:

And that's one thing that I was looking

Speaker:

for online.

Speaker:

I couldn't find.

Speaker:

So my problem birthed my solution.

Speaker:

I ended up saying, okay, let me start

Speaker:

a blog that is going to help people

Speaker:

in my same situation, figure out how moms

Speaker:

are actually doing this.

Speaker:

And I was following the same blueprint that

Speaker:

the guys that were making a hundred thousand

Speaker:

dollars a month were doing, which was affiliate

Speaker:

marketing was their prime source of income, but

Speaker:

they also were getting traffic to their blog

Speaker:

through the power of Pinterest and Google.

Speaker:

And Google, you have to understand SEO, which

Speaker:

is search engine optimization.

Speaker:

And that was how they were getting their

Speaker:

traffic to their blog.

Speaker:

And that was completely Greek to me at

Speaker:

first.

Speaker:

I'm like SEO.

Speaker:

It was one of the things that I

Speaker:

did not want to have to do, but

Speaker:

I knew if I wanted to get consistent

Speaker:

traffic to my blog, I had to figure

Speaker:

this out.

Speaker:

So long story short, I ended up trying

Speaker:

to figure it out on my own and

Speaker:

I was just stuck.

Speaker:

There's one piece of the puzzle that was

Speaker:

missing.

Speaker:

So I got on a coaching call with

Speaker:

this woman that was doing really well with

Speaker:

SEO.

Speaker:

And just that call, it gave me all

Speaker:

the clarity I needed to say, oh, that's

Speaker:

what I was missing.

Speaker:

And from that, I was working on my

Speaker:

blog.

Speaker:

It took me a whole year to just

Speaker:

writing articles every day.

Speaker:

And then when I learned SEO around the

Speaker:

sixth month of my blog, just starting it,

Speaker:

things started to click.

Speaker:

So then I was starting to really be

Speaker:

very intentional with my articles.

Speaker:

So every day I would write an article.

Speaker:

And then the very next year my blog

Speaker:

blew up and I had made over $200

Speaker:

,000 just from the sheer amount of traffic

Speaker:

that was my blog, because I started ranking

Speaker:

high up on Google and I was getting

Speaker:

Pinterest.

Speaker:

So I was getting so much traffic to

Speaker:

my blog.

Speaker:

I was making a lot of money through

Speaker:

affiliate commissions and ad revenue.

Speaker:

And that's how I was able to make

Speaker:

the $200,000.

Speaker:

But all of that, majority of that came

Speaker:

from learning SEO.

Speaker:

So that's how I kind of found out

Speaker:

about the SEO.

Speaker:

And I literally take the same thing that

Speaker:

I do for my blog.

Speaker:

I just turned it into YouTube.

Speaker:

And that's how I've been able to get

Speaker:

consistent passive income from YouTube following the same

Speaker:

SEO strategies that I use with my blog.

Speaker:

I love that.

Speaker:

Kirsten calls SEO voodoo magic.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Once you understand it, it's easy, but in

Speaker:

the beginning, is it what's going on?

Speaker:

Do you still have your blog today?

Speaker:

I still have my blog today, but the,

Speaker:

so the one thing that I'm so happy

Speaker:

for is that having all my eggs in

Speaker:

one basket.

Speaker:

So because early in, in 2009, I was

Speaker:

getting over a hundred thousand pages from Pinterest,

Speaker:

but I also knew that I wanted to

Speaker:

be like those bloggers and then just have

Speaker:

not all my eggs in one basket.

Speaker:

So then I did Google and Pinterest, but

Speaker:

first I always mastered one thing first.

Speaker:

So I was getting, so in the end

Speaker:

of 2019, Pinterest changed their algorithm and I

Speaker:

lost all my traffic.

Speaker:

So I went from a hundred thousand pages

Speaker:

a month to just a thousand.

Speaker:

And I was so happy at that time

Speaker:

that I had diversified where it was okay.

Speaker:

I was still making the money because I

Speaker:

was still getting so much traffic from Google.

Speaker:

But then again, I'm so happy that I

Speaker:

transitioned to you.

Speaker:

I shouldn't say transition, but I added YouTube

Speaker:

as another income source because Google changed their

Speaker:

algorithm last year with a helpful content update.

Speaker:

And I lost like majority of my traffic

Speaker:

there.

Speaker:

So if I just didn't continue to adapt

Speaker:

and move on, you know, with the way

Speaker:

things changing, I honestly have nothing.

Speaker:

So I do have my blog, it's making

Speaker:

me pennies, but it's still, it might make

Speaker:

maybe $200 a month in ad revenue now

Speaker:

when before I was getting like $400 a

Speaker:

day.

Speaker:

So it's a huge difference with my blog.

Speaker:

I still make money from it, but it's

Speaker:

nothing to you know, bloat about.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

You were smart to go to YouTube though,

Speaker:

because you know, video isn't going away.

Speaker:

You know, blogging is certainly not as popular

Speaker:

as it once was.

Speaker:

There's so much more competition now, but video

Speaker:

is certainly the way forward.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Especially with AI, with the way people write

Speaker:

with AI on blog posts, you can just

Speaker:

spit them out.

Speaker:

There's no originality these days.

Speaker:

It's like, you can't even compete with video.

Speaker:

It's you, you're one of one.

Speaker:

No one can be you and no one.

Speaker:

So I have my own tribe.

Speaker:

People would rather listen to me than someone

Speaker:

else about the exact same thing and the

Speaker:

same vice versa.

Speaker:

People would rather listen to somebody else about

Speaker:

the exact same thing.

Speaker:

So I don't have as much competition when

Speaker:

it's just me and myself.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And the one thing too, for us is

Speaker:

that when someone finds you on video and

Speaker:

they've watched enough of your content, when they

Speaker:

reach out to buy something for you, they

Speaker:

already know, like, and trust you.

Speaker:

That was my big aha moment.

Speaker:

When I first started doing videos many years

Speaker:

ago for my mortgage company was just the

Speaker:

power of video.

Speaker:

The power connection that's created by video is

Speaker:

really what's amazing.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Well, for those people who are not really

Speaker:

familiar with affiliate marketing, why don't you tell

Speaker:

us a little bit about that and how

Speaker:

you find the right affiliates to work with

Speaker:

and things like that.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So I love giving this example just for

Speaker:

it to make sense.

Speaker:

So if someone's watching this video or my

Speaker:

YouTube video and they'll say, hey, Whitney, what

Speaker:

kind of camera do you use?

Speaker:

Well, instead of me actually saying it's a

Speaker:

Canon 90D, which what it is, I'm going

Speaker:

to go to Amazon, for example.

Speaker:

Not everything is Amazon offers very low commissions,

Speaker:

but I'm giving an example.

Speaker:

I'll go to Amazon and get my affiliate

Speaker:

link.

Speaker:

So instead of just telling you what camera

Speaker:

I use, I'm going to just give you

Speaker:

the link and say, hey, here, this is

Speaker:

the camera I use.

Speaker:

So I actually do the work for you

Speaker:

where you can just click on it, go

Speaker:

right to my camera.

Speaker:

And if you liked it and you purchased

Speaker:

that, then I earn a commission because I

Speaker:

caused you to go to Amazon and make

Speaker:

a purchase.

Speaker:

So that's how affiliate marketing works.

Speaker:

And that's what you typically call affiliate partnerships,

Speaker:

because it's a partnership.

Speaker:

You partner with a company and they say,

Speaker:

hey, if you can actually tell people about

Speaker:

our product, you'll get paid for it.

Speaker:

You'll get paid a commission for it.

Speaker:

But it happens best when it's online.

Speaker:

You can track those links.

Speaker:

So that's really in a nutshell, really quickly,

Speaker:

what affiliate marketing is.

Speaker:

It's just basically referring a product or service

Speaker:

and making using a unique referral link.

Speaker:

And if someone purchases with your referral link,

Speaker:

you can earn a commission.

Speaker:

So how do you sign up your affiliates?

Speaker:

Do you go out and find different products

Speaker:

or services on affiliate?

Speaker:

Because there are affiliate programs, I don't know

Speaker:

if you call them programs, companies that list

Speaker:

different companies that offer affiliates.

Speaker:

But what do you do?

Speaker:

What do you prefer?

Speaker:

Yeah, my strategy, I don't really use that

Speaker:

strategy.

Speaker:

Actually, I typically find out what is my

Speaker:

topic, what do I want to cover?

Speaker:

And then I ask myself, what can I

Speaker:

promote in this video that can further help

Speaker:

this person?

Speaker:

So it's all about like the only reason

Speaker:

people really buy is because they believe that

Speaker:

this can help them further.

Speaker:

And that's so I'm always thinking about the

Speaker:

subject matter first.

Speaker:

And then I think about, okay, what product

Speaker:

or service can I have?

Speaker:

So there's been affiliate program where I even

Speaker:

I just thought about it again, there was

Speaker:

this woman that she had a course that

Speaker:

she was showing people how to make money

Speaker:

with, with food photography.

Speaker:

So taking pictures of food.

Speaker:

And she didn't have an affiliate program.

Speaker:

And I just asked her, I told her

Speaker:

that I wanted to promote her stuff.

Speaker:

Does she have one?

Speaker:

She's like, No.

Speaker:

And I said, Well, we can do something

Speaker:

where you can create a coupon code or

Speaker:

something like that for me.

Speaker:

So you just know, you have to have

Speaker:

some way to know that that person came

Speaker:

from you.

Speaker:

So as long as you have that it

Speaker:

doesn't have to be all the fancy links

Speaker:

and stuff like that.

Speaker:

It could just be like, oh, they use

Speaker:

that coupon code.

Speaker:

Okay, so every time I see that, I

Speaker:

know that's from Whitney.

Speaker:

So she's going to get a certain percentage

Speaker:

every time for that.

Speaker:

So I actually don't go the traditional route,

Speaker:

I'll sometimes go to where I know this

Speaker:

can help somebody.

Speaker:

And then I'll reach out to that person

Speaker:

and say, can we work out a partnership?

Speaker:

Because I want to promote your product.

Speaker:

And then typically, they'll say yes, because everybody's

Speaker:

trying to make more money.

Speaker:

And so that's how I typically do it.

Speaker:

So sometimes I'll do it like that.

Speaker:

Very rarely will I go to sites and

Speaker:

just kind of look to see what affiliate

Speaker:

programs they have, and then try and promote

Speaker:

it that way.

Speaker:

I typically start with the problem first.

Speaker:

And then I think about what can best

Speaker:

help the person.

Speaker:

Well, the food photography, how did that go

Speaker:

for you?

Speaker:

As far as promoting that?

Speaker:

It went really well.

Speaker:

So I made $100,000.

Speaker:

And I get like a $20,000 out

Speaker:

of that.

Speaker:

I have to go back to my dashboard.

Speaker:

But she so she was really like, how

Speaker:

else can I help and anything else I

Speaker:

can do.

Speaker:

But the only thing with that now is

Speaker:

because blogging is not as great anymore, as

Speaker:

far as like it, the Google update hit

Speaker:

a lot of people.

Speaker:

And it's like a trickle down effect.

Speaker:

So because the bloggers are not making as

Speaker:

much money anymore, they can't pay these food

Speaker:

photographers to do so much for their blogs

Speaker:

anymore.

Speaker:

So with the the way the world has

Speaker:

gone with that, and AI and AI did

Speaker:

not really affect her.

Speaker:

But because the business has changed a bit,

Speaker:

it has not gone as well as anymore.

Speaker:

So it was like it was it worked

Speaker:

well for its season.

Speaker:

So that's why I always got to keep

Speaker:

on moving, you know, in this world.

Speaker:

That is so amazing.

Speaker:

And then when it comes to finding like

Speaker:

affiliates that you really trust, I mean, yeah,

Speaker:

that's important to you, right?

Speaker:

Because very important reputation, my Yes, my reputation

Speaker:

is everything.

Speaker:

Like I just had a sponsor come to

Speaker:

me with good money, but I don't believe

Speaker:

in it.

Speaker:

I went to the reviews, and they're all

Speaker:

bad.

Speaker:

I'm like, my name if someone signs up

Speaker:

for this, and then they have bad experience,

Speaker:

you're gonna remember that they signed up to

Speaker:

because of me, and no amount of money

Speaker:

can't my reputation is everything my reputation is

Speaker:

monetized.

Speaker:

So if I go and just promote something

Speaker:

out of the sheer just to make money,

Speaker:

that's going to be worse on me.

Speaker:

So I actually I see so many people

Speaker:

on YouTube promoting things that I know is

Speaker:

not true.

Speaker:

And I'm just like, they're just literally doing

Speaker:

that just so they can make money.

Speaker:

But that's why I feel like I'm being

Speaker:

just authentic and trustworthy is the reason why

Speaker:

I've been able to do so well for

Speaker:

so long is because people actually say, Oh,

Speaker:

no, Whitney promoted that.

Speaker:

And that's probably something and that's how when

Speaker:

you make money with affiliate marketing, you have

Speaker:

to have that trust because they can go

Speaker:

anywhere else and they can go to Google

Speaker:

and do it themselves.

Speaker:

But because I've given them a reason to

Speaker:

trust me, they're going to use my link.

Speaker:

And that's why I think I've done so

Speaker:

well with it.

Speaker:

I just find it so interesting.

Speaker:

And I love how you you seem to

Speaker:

know the right time to make changes from

Speaker:

Pinterest to Google from Google to YouTube.

Speaker:

So it is really smart.

Speaker:

Are you worried about YouTube at all?

Speaker:

No, I'm not.

Speaker:

And I should be.

Speaker:

But I just like the way the way

Speaker:

I see the world going is just more

Speaker:

video.

Speaker:

Like I can't see it going anywhere else.

Speaker:

YouTube is literally just the one best platform

Speaker:

for everyone.

Speaker:

It's the best platform for users.

Speaker:

And it's the best platform for creators as

Speaker:

well.

Speaker:

So it's just like right now, this is

Speaker:

the time to be on YouTube.

Speaker:

And I like when I try and think

Speaker:

that out, look at the future.

Speaker:

Yes, social media is there.

Speaker:

But social media is work.

Speaker:

And social media is something that I don't

Speaker:

necessarily like doing.

Speaker:

I'll do it just to continue to diversify.

Speaker:

But if I can just do one video

Speaker:

a week, and it takes me five hours

Speaker:

a week to create a $300,000 business,

Speaker:

then I'm gonna stick to what works.

Speaker:

So YouTube right now is one thing that

Speaker:

I'm still passionate about.

Speaker:

I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.

Speaker:

But I'm definitely always gonna be on the

Speaker:

lookout.

Speaker:

But right now I am.

Speaker:

I'm all in on YouTube.

Speaker:

And it's interesting that we often get asked,

Speaker:

but isn't it saturated?

Speaker:

Oh, and I always say, Can you name

Speaker:

five YouTubers that you know, we're making a

Speaker:

full time income on YouTube by show of

Speaker:

hands if I'm in a group setting.

Speaker:

And typically, no one cannot say they personally

Speaker:

know five people.

Speaker:

And I'm saying, Okay, well, that's proven that

Speaker:

that's not everyone.

Speaker:

Because we have this idea in our head

Speaker:

that everyone has a YouTube channel.

Speaker:

No, they don't.

Speaker:

You can't even name five people.

Speaker:

So everyone does not have a YouTube channel.

Speaker:

And I always say to because you are

Speaker:

one of one, it doesn't even matter if

Speaker:

they did, people just will resonate better with

Speaker:

you than they do with me or someone

Speaker:

else.

Speaker:

So that's why we are not we are

Speaker:

our own competition.

Speaker:

It's funny, because my background is real estate.

Speaker:

And I was at a network meeting today

Speaker:

that I've been invited to by the real

Speaker:

estate agent.

Speaker:

And she's lovely.

Speaker:

And she's always saying I need to do

Speaker:

YouTube.

Speaker:

I'm just so afraid to be on camera.

Speaker:

She's very shy.

Speaker:

And so I was talking to someone and

Speaker:

she was standing there.

Speaker:

And I said, Denise, you know, I've said

Speaker:

this to you.

Speaker:

I think if you're in real estate, you

Speaker:

don't have a YouTube channel, you're gonna get

Speaker:

left behind in the next 36 months.

Speaker:

Because, you know, YouTube is such a great

Speaker:

way to passively generate leads for real estate

Speaker:

agents.

Speaker:

And yeah, I mean, it's amazing.

Speaker:

We were looking at stats the other day.

Speaker:

And Jean, tell me if I'm wrong about

Speaker:

this.

Speaker:

But 80% of all people who are

Speaker:

going to buy a home will go to

Speaker:

YouTube and watch videos about the neighborhood in

Speaker:

the community.

Speaker:

Oh, my gosh.

Speaker:

Yeah, they're definitely going on YouTube to find

Speaker:

out all kinds of information about buying a

Speaker:

home and, and selling a home.

Speaker:

That's their first their first stop.

Speaker:

And that's where they do all the research.

Speaker:

That's so smart.

Speaker:

I've never even thought about that.

Speaker:

And that's why it's so important to know

Speaker:

your customer and how they interact and do

Speaker:

things because that's the answer.

Speaker:

Be where they are.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And because real estate is so important to

Speaker:

build that relationship to build that know, like

Speaker:

and trust that, you know, YouTube is a

Speaker:

perfect platform, just like you were saying, you

Speaker:

know, you are building up your reputation, and

Speaker:

people are trusting you because you do go

Speaker:

through and, you know, personally choose what you're

Speaker:

promoting.

Speaker:

And so, you know, it's really important, especially

Speaker:

when you're, when you're making such a large

Speaker:

purchase, to be able to trust the person

Speaker:

who's helping you with that.

Speaker:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker:

I love that so much.

Speaker:

My sister-in-law's a real estate agent.

Speaker:

So I can't wait to share this with

Speaker:

her.

Speaker:

Well, don't forget, you're not just leaning into

Speaker:

traditional SEO, you also have to integrate local

Speaker:

SEO.

Speaker:

Exactly.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So that's better for search too.

Speaker:

Because this Yeah, exactly.

Speaker:

Yeah, local SEO.

Speaker:

I think, again, YouTube is such a powerful

Speaker:

tool for local businesses.

Speaker:

You know, whether you know, I was talking

Speaker:

to an attorney today, I was talking to

Speaker:

a guy about to a guy who owns

Speaker:

a plumbing company.

Speaker:

And it's really funny, because there's a plumber

Speaker:

who started a YouTube channel years ago, I

Speaker:

can't think of his name.

Speaker:

And he literally was showing people how to

Speaker:

do almost everything.

Speaker:

And his family and friends are like, you're

Speaker:

not gonna have business.

Speaker:

But the reality is, he got so busy,

Speaker:

he couldn't keep up, because he would show

Speaker:

people how to do it.

Speaker:

But they don't, it would cost them more

Speaker:

to go buy the tools to do it.

Speaker:

You know, there were a risk of pipes

Speaker:

or something.

Speaker:

So yeah, so what happened was they liked

Speaker:

him, and they trusted him simply because he

Speaker:

was not afraid.

Speaker:

That's so smart.

Speaker:

I didn't think of it that way.

Speaker:

I was thinking you could make money through

Speaker:

ad revenue.

Speaker:

But no one's not everyone wants to do

Speaker:

the job of a plumber, they're always gonna

Speaker:

be hiring out.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

Well, he did end up building his channel,

Speaker:

he does make ad revenue.

Speaker:

And he does teach YouTube as well now,

Speaker:

because the intention was he just for some

Speaker:

reason wanted to have a channel.

Speaker:

And he thought, well, there's some things that

Speaker:

people could do themselves, it will be affordable.

Speaker:

And like, if I can help them do

Speaker:

this and save the money, then I'm helping

Speaker:

people at a tight time.

Speaker:

But what happened was, you know, I'm sure

Speaker:

a few people fix their toilet based on

Speaker:

what he taught them.

Speaker:

But what happened was he really just ended

Speaker:

up his business just exploded.

Speaker:

And it's such a, you know, a great

Speaker:

thing.

Speaker:

And that's what we talked our clients about,

Speaker:

you know, give value based educational content, help

Speaker:

people.

Speaker:

If you love helping people, YouTube is the

Speaker:

platform for you.

Speaker:

Yeah, I think that's why YouTube is so

Speaker:

great.

Speaker:

Like I can make money and help you.

Speaker:

That's even more incentive.

Speaker:

Yes, yes.

Speaker:

Yeah, you get loads of feedback, too.

Speaker:

I bet you get loads of people saying,

Speaker:

Oh, thank you so much, Whitney, you know,

Speaker:

I wouldn't have found this without you.

Speaker:

And I'm so grateful.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And one thing I always do the end

Speaker:

of my videos to increase engagement, I always

Speaker:

say something like, and if you're still here

Speaker:

watching at the end of this video, I'd

Speaker:

love to hear from you.

Speaker:

So I'll ask him to say something.

Speaker:

So sometimes I'll say like, just say the

Speaker:

word I made it.

Speaker:

One time I said put the word butter,

Speaker:

like just random stuff, like people like that

Speaker:

kind of stuff.

Speaker:

And because they do that, they're still they're

Speaker:

like, Oh, I'm still here.

Speaker:

Let me go ahead and comment.

Speaker:

So she knows that I actually watched and

Speaker:

it really increases the engagement too.

Speaker:

So you can even have fun with it.

Speaker:

That's so awesome.

Speaker:

I'm definitely gonna stop your channel a little

Speaker:

bit more today and encourage everyone else here

Speaker:

who was listening to do the same.

Speaker:

So if you had one piece of advice

Speaker:

for people, when it comes to YouTube, what

Speaker:

would it be?

Speaker:

And then what would it be for affiliate

Speaker:

marketing?

Speaker:

If you had somebody who could have told

Speaker:

you something a long time ago, what would

Speaker:

it have been?

Speaker:

I would say the people that see successful

Speaker:

YouTube are the ones who are obsessed with

Speaker:

it.

Speaker:

So become obsessed, love it, just spend time

Speaker:

with it, want to get better every single

Speaker:

time.

Speaker:

So just study other people's just it's something

Speaker:

that can just be a hobby that you

Speaker:

end up doing.

Speaker:

But do make it a hard that you

Speaker:

just want to you love because this is

Speaker:

something that there's no other platform that you

Speaker:

can have an idea, create something and get

Speaker:

the results like right away.

Speaker:

So it's really fun just to be able

Speaker:

to create something and then get the results

Speaker:

and then say, Okay, maybe I should have

Speaker:

did this better, you can just continuously adjust.

Speaker:

And if you become obsessed with it, you

Speaker:

can build something that can just be beyond

Speaker:

your dreams and make a boatload of money

Speaker:

at the same time.

Speaker:

So become obsessed with YouTube is the best

Speaker:

thing that could ever you could ever do

Speaker:

out of all the other platforms.

Speaker:

Just this is the one where you can,

Speaker:

I always say, make more work less.

Speaker:

I love that you're getting us all inspired

Speaker:

about YouTube.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And then for affiliate marketing, because I know

Speaker:

you have had, you know, a couple affiliate

Speaker:

programs that you promoted for 100 grand.

Speaker:

So what would you like to have learned

Speaker:

about affiliate marketing when you first started?

Speaker:

And what would your advice be for people

Speaker:

now?

Speaker:

Yeah, my best advice for affiliate marketing is

Speaker:

that you don't do not have to reinvent

Speaker:

the wheel, you don't have to say, Oh,

Speaker:

I don't know what to promote.

Speaker:

I always say look at your competitors, the

Speaker:

ones who talk about the exact same thing

Speaker:

as you and see what are they promoting?

Speaker:

And then ask yourself what I want to

Speaker:

create, create content around this topic.

Speaker:

When promote this product, if the answer is

Speaker:

yes, then great, write it down and start

Speaker:

thinking about content you can put around it.

Speaker:

If there's if you don't want to promote

Speaker:

it, don't promote it.

Speaker:

It's your channel.

Speaker:

But the one thing that you have that

Speaker:

you don't have to figure out is actually

Speaker:

looking and studying your competitors and seeing what

Speaker:

they're already doing.

Speaker:

That's the number one mistake people make when

Speaker:

marketing as a whole.

Speaker:

And we always use the example that, you

Speaker:

know, McDonald's before they decide to build a

Speaker:

new location, they spend hundreds of 1000s of

Speaker:

dollars doing research around that neighborhood around the

Speaker:

flow of the traffic.

Speaker:

And I feel like small business owners really

Speaker:

miss out on learning.

Speaker:

It doesn't mean you're stealing.

Speaker:

It doesn't mean you're going to copy them.

Speaker:

It means you're getting inspiration from them and

Speaker:

you're seeing what's working for them and what's

Speaker:

not.

Speaker:

And then you're leaning into what could work

Speaker:

for you.

Speaker:

How many videos on average do you do

Speaker:

around a certain affiliate product?

Speaker:

Like the LLC product?

Speaker:

Yeah, you know, that's a good question.

Speaker:

I don't even really like measure it like

Speaker:

that.

Speaker:

I probably should.

Speaker:

But I literally just think, well, OK, so

Speaker:

this week, what do I talk about?

Speaker:

And then I look at my views on

Speaker:

some videos that have done better.

Speaker:

Oh, that did well.

Speaker:

Let me do another one like that.

Speaker:

Like, I don't I just kind of just

Speaker:

kind of think of at the time, what

Speaker:

do I think my people are looking for?

Speaker:

And then if I see a video that

Speaker:

I want to get more traction on, then

Speaker:

I'll do another one on that.

Speaker:

So it's not like a real science that

Speaker:

I have to, which I probably should.

Speaker:

But it's really just thinking about at the

Speaker:

time what kind of videos do I think

Speaker:

my audience will resonate well with?

Speaker:

Because it's always about creating curiosity, too.

Speaker:

So you have to make them curious and

Speaker:

say, what's that about?

Speaker:

And then you've got to get them to

Speaker:

click.

Speaker:

So it's all about just creating enough curiosity

Speaker:

to make them want to click.

Speaker:

So that's another thing about that, too.

Speaker:

That's a way to tell us the name

Speaker:

of your channel.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Whitney Bond is my name.

Speaker:

So YouTube dot com slash Whitney Bond.

Speaker:

You can find me that way and just

Speaker:

kind of look at my channel.

Speaker:

And the one thing I love on my

Speaker:

channel, I'm always like experimenting.

Speaker:

I should just stay in one lane, but

Speaker:

I like to see what works.

Speaker:

And so I have some videos that perform

Speaker:

really well and some that are just duds.

Speaker:

I'm not doing that again.

Speaker:

But it's just all a learning experience.

Speaker:

So sometimes you think about wanting to hide

Speaker:

your videos because if it didn't perform well.

Speaker:

But I'll never forget, I did one video

Speaker:

about the LLC one that I was talking

Speaker:

about.

Speaker:

No one watched it.

Speaker:

Five months, it was a dud.

Speaker:

It was embarrassing.

Speaker:

Should I delete it?

Speaker:

It just makes you kind of feel like

Speaker:

I look bad.

Speaker:

But then it took off.

Speaker:

And that video now has over 200,000

Speaker:

views.

Speaker:

So what if I would have deleted that

Speaker:

out of just thinking about other people who

Speaker:

I should not be thinking about?

Speaker:

So I love you as an example to

Speaker:

say like, just YouTube is its own animal.

Speaker:

Sometimes a video won't take off right away,

Speaker:

but sometimes it'll take off months or years

Speaker:

later.

Speaker:

So keep it there and keep it moving.

Speaker:

So yeah.

Speaker:

And it's funny when you said years later

Speaker:

when Jeannie and I were, we were doing

Speaker:

something one day we were doing, we were

Speaker:

doing a Google search, actually.

Speaker:

Oh no, actually we were searching on YouTube.

Speaker:

And the video that popped up was 10

Speaker:

years old.

Speaker:

Think about it.

Speaker:

That video has been around for 10 years.

Speaker:

It was still relevant to what we were

Speaker:

looking up.

Speaker:

Like, wow, that's amazing.

Speaker:

Because you don't think there really isn't anything

Speaker:

else with marketing that I can think of.

Speaker:

Jeannie, again, if you think of anything, let

Speaker:

us know.

Speaker:

But I can't really think of anything that

Speaker:

you can do one time.

Speaker:

And it's only working for you 24 hours

Speaker:

a day, seven days a week for years

Speaker:

to come.

Speaker:

And that's pretty powerful.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

It's the one platform.

Speaker:

That's why I'm like, there's no other thing

Speaker:

that you should be investing your time in

Speaker:

than the one that can get you the

Speaker:

most bang for your buck.

Speaker:

Well, you've inspired me.

Speaker:

We have two podcast channels and I've been

Speaker:

thinking about doing another traditional channel.

Speaker:

So maybe you've inspired me to take that

Speaker:

action soon.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

We love our other channels because we get

Speaker:

to talk to amazing people like you, but

Speaker:

I think I do want to get back

Speaker:

to kind of, I always call it a

Speaker:

talking head kind of channel.

Speaker:

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker:

Five hours a week.

Speaker:

I always say like, I only work five

Speaker:

hours a week.

Speaker:

You do your research and you study in

Speaker:

and then I'd record 30 minutes and that

Speaker:

sends up to my editor.

Speaker:

So that's it.

Speaker:

You know, if you've got an extra five

Speaker:

hours, you can do it.

Speaker:

I love it.

Speaker:

I love that.

Speaker:

Well, Whitney, this has been so fantastic.

Speaker:

You've given us so many ideas and inspiration.

Speaker:

So we can't thank you enough for joining

Speaker:

us on our episode today.

Speaker:

Thank you so much for having me.
