Speaker AWhat's up, champion? This is your host, Neal, and I want to welcome you back to the Executive Perspective with Neil Reyes. I am so excited that you joined today. Today I have something that I believe is a little extra special. Now, I feel, if I'm being honest, I. I feel all of our ice shows are extra special. But today, I believe I have something that's going to help every single person who's listening to this podcast. No matter what you do for a career, no matter if you're your own business owner, if you work for somebody, I don't care what you do, and I don't care what age you are. If you're a high performer, today's show, I believe, is going to hit you right between the eyes. Now, let me explain something here, because I'm going to teach a principle in just a second that the Lord showed me a few years ago that has radically changed my life. I'm going to say that again. It has radically changed my life. Now, for those of you who are watching today, there's going to be two groups out there. There's going to be one group that says, man, I already do that. And it reaffirms them. And I'm going to give some insights of why it's beneficial for you to continue doing it. But there's going to be a second group, and this second group is going to be much larger, I think, and they're going to say, oh, man, that was for me today. That show. Neil, read my mail. That show was for me. And so the topic that I'm going to be speaking with you about today is on the topic of stop hitting the snooze button. I know, I know, I know, I know. I'm not trying to get in your sleep, but stop hitting the snooze button. You know, I was at a Mastermind a couple years ago, and while I was there, one of my personal mentors, Brendan Burchard, was speaking. And as Brendan was speaking, he started talking about some different things. And it was based. If you ever listen to him, he talks a lot about high performance and productivity. He has some great books, a lot of great courses and videos out there. But as Brendan was talking, one of the things he brought up was something that the Lord had been dealing with me about, and it was the topic of snoozing. I used to be a serial snoozer. I don't even know if that's a term, but I guess I'm saying it. I was a serial snoozer. What do I mean by that, man? There were days that my alarm, I would almost set my alarm an hour earlier than I planned on getting up just so I could hit snooze and snooze and snooze. Sometimes I'd hit the snooze four or five times, sometimes more. But don't tell my wife. No, not really. She knows it more than me, because my wife's a light sleeper. And unfortunately, what I was doing was being insensitive to her because I would wake her up, too. However, on most days, my wife wakes up before me, so don't think I'm a super insensitive husband. But I would hit snooze, and I'd hit snooze, and I'd hit snooze. And one day, the Lord started to deal with me about that, and he started to talk to me about my productivity. But more than anything, he started to talk to me about my laziness. Oh, man, I'm telling you, that's vulnerable to be able to say that on the show. I don't consider myself a lazy person. And if you know all the things I do, and for all the years that I've done them, I don't really think I'm a lazy person. But when God talks to us about something, he's never wrong. And he was talking. And I want to share with you that it's possible for one area of your life for you to be lazy and in another area of your life for you to be a high performer and be banging things out. But life's about having balance, right? I mean, the quality of life and the benefits of life. The true benefits of living a great life is by having balance in your life. You know, one of the things I talk about on this podcast often is about connecting with your best self and the best version of who you are. Your best performance, you know. This podcast focuses on three main areas. Leadership, business strategy, and personal development. When I'm working with people one on one on coaching, one of the things I focus on, their coaching on, I focus on advanced mindset training. No matter what topic we're talking about, whether if it's high performance, if it's leadership, if it's something specific within their business, where they're trying to build it or scale, if it's the Legos on the floor where they got blocks that are happening within their life that are limiting beliefs that are impacting them, whatever it is. But I always center it on the foundation of advanced mindset training. But as I do that. One of the things I look at is always trying to help people connect with their very best version of themselves and to connect with their highest performance, their best self. Well, years ago the Lord was dealing with me about this and as he was. And he does that continually. That's not a one time thing. He's continually working on me to improve myself, better myself. And remember, we don't chase perfection. We're about progress over perfection. But we are after excellence. That's the core center of my heart, is being after excellence. And that's why I teach you those principles as well. But a couple years ago, the Lord started dealing with me about my habit of snoozing. I was, I called it earlier that I was a serial snoozer. Maybe a better way of saying it is that I was a habitual snoozer. And I'm guessing that some of you listening to this today are also habitual snoozers. And some of you know it and others well, maybe you just quite hadn't seen it like that, but I believe today's show is going to help you. So back to this, this mastermind I'm at and one of my mentors, like I said, Brendon Burchard speaking. And as Brendan speaking, he starts touching down on the area of snoozing and why that's so detrimental to a person's life. Now he didn't stay on the topic long, he was hitting on other things, but the topic of snoozing up. And when it did, I was like, oh, oh, oh, you got me. You got me. Because in the audience I was like, oh man, that was just for me because the Lord had been speaking to me about this thing. Well, I made a quality, quality decision right there and then to change on the spot. Now I know not all people are conditioned to do that and you got to work up to that sometimes, but there are others who are exceptional with that. And for me, I made the decision right there in my chair that I was done with snoozing. The Lord had already spoke to me about it, so he had spoke to me directly and now he's speaking about it to me indirectly through someone that I highly respect and that I serve honor to and who has a voice into my life. And that's Brendan. And I'm so grateful for the things he teaches. And as he spoke on that, it was a confirmation. Now it's not like I heard the Lord's voice and I was like, well, I'll believe you if I Get a confirmation. No, I knew it was true the moment he spoke it to me. But when I got the confirmation, it was there that I made that change. Now, this mastermind that I was at was actually over a couple days. And when I heard this thing, that night when I went to sleep in my hotel, I used my iPhone. That's what I just happened to use. I'm not plugging for iPhone, but I just telling you, I have an iPhone. And on my iPhone, I happened to use that as my alarm. And I set that alarm that next morning and when it went off. Now, I'll be honest with you, I had to turn it a little extra loud that night, but the next morning when it went off, I made the conscious decision to roll over and not hit snooze, but hit stop and got up out of bed. I'm going to tell you, that's a massive change that I did for my life. One little thing was a giant unlock for my life, and by doing that, it changed my life. And now that's been over a couple years ago. You know, they tell you that if you ever want to start a new habit, and there's different studies out there, some say 30 days, some say 45 days. But the majority of studies say that if you want to create a new habit, then start doing something consistently for 30 days, and after 30 days, you will have defined it as a new habit within your life. And there are so many great books on habits out there. Brennan's got some. There's so many great books. One of my favorite ones, Atomic Habits, you know, it's just a great book, and I'm not plugging for that. But I am telling you, I don't have any problem sharing with you the things that have sown into my life and helped me, because if they can help me, I'm sure they can help you. But so many good books out there. But work on forming a new habit of waking up. Now, I'm going to tell you, this requires discipline, because at this point, when I'm waking up, back then two years ago and before, I already, I could like almost reach over and touch my phone on the side and I could hit the snooze button almost without even looking at the phone. And, you know, the phone feels like just like glass on the front, but I could almost hit it and just know exactly where snooze was and it'd go off again a few minutes later because I was so trained to do so. But I made a quality decision that night. And in my Mind I knew something slipped, something clicked. It was like a lever that clicked. A lever clicked into place and I knew from that day forward I could not snooze anymore. Now let me tell you that that night it's not like I went to bed like at 9:30, so I'm ready to get up in the morning. No, I sometimes tend to stay up pretty late actually. And I think that night I probably stayed up till close to 1am, maybe 1:30 and I had to get up a little before 7. So I didn't get the best sleep that night as far as I got. Great quality of sleep but not a lot of quantity. But when I woke up in the next morning, it's not like I was coming off of eight or nine hours of sleep. And so hitting the alarm to tell it stop was easy. No, when that thing went off the next day, my mind said get up. But my flesh said, let's stay here a little longer. But I didn't listen to my flesh because I had already conditioned my mind. Get up and turn that thing off and go. Now I'm going to go over this with you today and why it's so important for you. But I'm going to tell you that this radically, and I'm going to say that again because I said it in my intro, this radically changed my life. So here's what I'm going to start off with and I have four different sections I'm going to cover with you today and I have some insight I'm going to give you. But the first section I want to cover with you, I've titled the Hidden Cost of Hitting Snooze. I'm going to say that one more time, the Hidden Cost of Hitting Snooze. So the first thing that this can cost you, the first hidden cost of hitting the snooze button, is loss of momentum for your day, man, I'm telling you, that's a big one right there. If you've ever hit the snooze button or woke up late, man, when you're rushing out of the house, sometimes it feels like you're chasing your day the entire day. It feels sometimes like you're playing catch up the entire day. And if you're someone who continually runs late but you've learned how to not feel like you're playing catch up, that could be a clear indicator that maybe you just gotten too good at that and you need to stop hitting the snooze button. Now not hitting the snooze button is not the Only thing that will prevent you from being late. I know that. But hitting the snooze button impacts you tremendously. And I will tell you that on my days off, I like to sleep in if I can. But even sleeping in, I'm still up, usually by around 8 or 9 anyways. My body just tends to wake up around that time at the latest. But keep in mind, don't consider me lazy. I go to bed pretty late sometimes. But at the same time, usually even on my days off, I have things I'm doing. So I still set the alarm whether I go to the gym on my days off and I'm going in the morning, or whether I'm turning around and waking up because I scheduled a call, a coaching call with one of my clients, and I know you might be saying, well, I thought you're off. Well, I am off. But I chose to do that on the day off because it's what worked for them and it was comfortable for me. It's just how I do my schedule. We all do our schedules different. But momentum for the day, a loss of momentum for the day can be caused by hitting the snooze button. Another thing that can be a hidden cost of hitting the snooze button is a decision fatigue starting early. Whew. What do I mean by that? Decision fatigue? That's a strong statement right there. Well, if you start your day off by saying, I'm going to wake up at, you know, whatever time you set your alarm for, you're telling yourself you're getting up at that time. Maybe for you at 6, maybe it's 7, maybe for some of you, it's 5 or 4am it could be all different kinds of things. But your alarm goes off, and the moment you hit snooze, you're already making a decision to go against the decision you made already. And you do that enough times and throughout the day, you'll have what's sometimes referred to as decision fatigue. It can wear you down. And remember, we've talked about before that when you're physically drained, that's draining. But that doesn't compare to when you're mentally drained. When you're mentally or emotionally drained, you're way more tired, much more tired than you are when you're physically drained. But if you're emotionally or mentally drained, plus physically drained now, you need to reset. The third thing is it's a psychological message that kind of tells you, I don't keep my own promises or I don't keep my promises to myself. Man, That's a powerful one right there because that's a subconscious thing. You may not necessarily be thinking that you're having that impact, but in your psyche and your psychology, you're definitely telling yourself, I don't keep the promises I make to myself. And if just hitting the snooze button, which seems like so simple, can start you on that, what other big areas of your life is that impacting as well? Okay, okay, okay, I'll move on. Sometimes when I'm talking to my mother in law and I'm talking about things, she'll be like, all right, there's not enough room for both you and God in my conscience, I'm like, yes, there is. Anyways, I'm going to go to number five. And number five is the compounding effect over weeks or sometimes months can equal to a lower leadership presence. I'm going to say that again. The compounding effects of this over weeks or months, it can equal a lower leadership presence. Meaning when you show up at your work, you're probably not showing up at your best. You're either showing up looking tired, sometimes you can look sloppy, or sometimes just a little disheveled, or sometimes maybe you're even a little irritable. And remember, nobody likes an emotional boss because emotional bosses are sometimes up and sometimes down. It's a roller coaster of leadership and people don't like working for that. Now the second area that I have for you on this is why this matters for leaders. Now remember, I believe everybody has a leader in them. And if you're drawn to this podcast, then you resonate with that. Because either you're working to become a leader, you're working to become a better leader, or you're already a leader, but you're drawn to, want to connect with your best self and best performance. And so why this matters for leaders is section two. And the first thing I have for you is leaders always set the pace. I'm going to say that again. Leaders always set the pace. And if you hit snooze, your leadership energy starts behind for that day. Man, that's a powerful one right there. When you hit snooze as a leader, your energy is already starting behind for that day. Big, big, big conversation. The second thing it does is integrity always starts with self discipline. Whoa, man, that's a big one right there. Integrity will always start with self discipline. And there's so many areas in life that you can apply self discipline to. You know, the areas that are the most common for people that you hear is usually around Their eating or maybe their nutrition, but it goes to so many other things in life. But the first thing you do at the beginning of the day when you're asleep, there's nothing you do before waking up. Waking up is the first action you do of every day. And for the days that you have an alarm clock set, how you handle that alarm clock, whether you turn it off and get up or you hit snooze and then wake up a few minutes later, sets a big tone for your day. And understand that it's not just about turning the alarm clock off and laying back in bed. Because what happens if you fall asleep that's even worse than hitting the snooze button. You hit turn the alarm off, you tell it stop, and you wake up and you go about your day. No if, ands or buts. High performers will always protect their first part of their day. High performers will always protect the first part of their day. And many of them guard their first hour of their day. Extra guarded. They're extra guarded about that first hour. But whether for you it's the first hour or the first couple hours, high performers always guard the first part of their day. I'm going to give you some insights to some studies that I came across that I found were just very fascinating. The University of Notre Dame, some people call it Notre Dame, but the University of Notre Dame, they did a study and found that 57% of people tend to hit the snooze button every morning. In other words, it's habitual for them. It's a habit. 57% of people. I found another survey where it was where they basically they tracked 20,000 people who were wearing activity tracker watches. So whether, you know, I'm not going to mention the brands, but just they were wearing activity watchers or watchers, goodness gracious. They were wearing activity watches. And as where they're wearing these watches that track their activity, over 20,000 of these people, they found that on the average 50% of them hit snooze at least once. At least once every morning. And the third study I found was from the Stockholm University. And the people that they did this research on found that they revealed that nearly 70% of the participants reported hitting the snooze button at least once. So the percentages vary a little bit. But when we're talking on an average, between 50 to 70% of people hit the snooze button at least once, man, I'm telling you, that's a significant thing within society. Significant thing. That's why I'M telling you, for me, it was so significant, and it was one of the largest breakthroughs I've had personally. You know, sometimes we talk about life hacks. Well, that's what I would consider for Neal and for you, an absolute life hack. The third thing that I want to talk to you about is practical steps on how to break the snooze habit. Again, how to practical steps on how to break the snooze habit. Now, for me, years ago, what I will tell you is that it started with a quality decision, like I told you earlier, to stop hitting the snooze. But the quality decision, for most people, it starts with a compelling why, when I did it for me, and this is just me. But when I did it for me, it didn't start with my why wasn't because I got to wake up from my mastermind the next morning, and then the next day, I had to wake up to catch my plane, and the next day I had to wake up for work. That's not what I did. For me, that's not wrong to do it like that. But my why for me was because this is an instruction the Lord already gave me, and he even confirmed it through one of my mentors. And this was something I knew I needed to root out of my life. I had to cut that thing off. It was costing me. And I'm going to tell you that this can cost you big when you continue to hit snooze. Snooze affects you before it affects anybody else. You're basically putting your future on hold. Every time you hit snooze, man, that's a big statement right there. And I felt that tug on the hearts of people spiritually. I felt in the spirit that it was tugging on the hearts of people when I said that. Every time you hit snooze, you're placing your future on hold. Every time you hit snooze, you're saying that your sleep is more important than your purpose in this life. Man, that's a bold statement right there. But that's exactly what happens when you hit snooze. And so it starts with a quality decision and a compelling why. Now, you need to know your why. And if your why is just because you got to get up and go to work or get the kids to school, then that's fine. There's nothing wrong with that. But you have to be clear about what your why is. But if your why is only because you got to wake up and get the kids to school on time, well, then what happens when the summer hits and the kids aren't in school? Well, your why is all thrown off or you're going to have to find a different why now. So just be prepared for that. But make sure you start your quality decision with a compelling why. The second thing is, it's moving the phone or the alarm across the room. Now, this is something in coaching I've actually had to explain to clients or suggest them. I have one client in particular that I'm thinking of, and this guy had a really nasty habit of hitting the snooze. And so what he actually had to do was we had to discuss, and this is a commitment he had to make when he made the decision to turn his phone on, not take it off a vibrate and put it on the ringer at max volume every single night and place it in his bathroom. Because he used to sleep with it by his bed on his nightstand. And when that thing would go off, it would wake him and his wife up, because he also had committed to trying to wake up a little bit earlier than the rest of the family so he could have some quiet time to read, because he was falling behind on his reading, whether if it was spending time in the Word or personal development books, but he was falling behind on his reading. And that was something he felt he needed for his life. So when that phone would go off, he also then had to tell his wife, if I sleep through that alarm, you elbow me until I wake up and go turn it off. And whatever you do, do not let me come back to bed. Now, his wife, I think, might have been okay. I might be wrong about that. But I think she was okay with him hitting snooze. But the moment that he told her what he was going to do and why, because she loved him, she supported him. And even though that was inconvenient for her, she still supported him by helping him wake up in the morning and not come back to that nice, warm, cozy, comfy bed. So this is something that she even helped him with. The third thing is sometimes for some people, they need to establish what I refer to as a launch ritual. In other words, consider yourself that when you wake up, you are launching yourself into your day, launching out of bed. When you do that, what's your morning routine that you put in place? Remember, I already talked about that. High performers tend to protect the first part of their day, some even the first hour of their day. For others, it could be the first few hours, first couple hours. But what's your launch routine? What are you doing to launch yourself out of bed in the morning and get right into. And I'll share with you, with me. And it depends on the day of the week for me, because I have a different schedule that I rotate through. But for me, sometimes, and I will tell you that no matter what day it is, this is what I start with first. I wake up and I go straight to my bathroom counter where I have a bottle of water waiting for me. And I have a couple supplements that I take, the vitamins, omega 3s, things like that. And I take those supplements and I chug that bottle of water right there. And then before I do anything else, I do that. And I'm going to tell you that when you're waking up with a full bladder, that's not always easy to do, but I do it every single day because that's my morning routine. Then I immediately run to the restroom. And when I come out of the restroom, I weigh myself. My beautiful wife bought me this excellent scale that I had was looking at. And I step on that scale and it's the kind that I have a wand that I hold out in front of me. And this thing gives me like 75 or 100 different body readings. And it's something that. Because I'm working on my fitness and I'm really trying to dial that in, I knew that this was a step that I needed, that the Lord had shown me it was through his instruction. And I'm going to tell you, getting on that thing every day has been one of the biggest blessings and breakthroughs for me. And as soon as I'm done with that, though, I head to the kitchen and I start my day with some tea. I used to be a coffee drinker, but I switched from coffee a while back. Now, don't get me wrong, I still enjoy a good cup of coffee, but I don't drink it as much anymore. In fact, when I do drink it, I notice that it feels for me personally, it feels heavier on my system. And then when I drink tea, I just feel better. And so I've learned to like tea better. And so I tend to usually start my day with either a green tea or I started off with a London fog. Man, I like some London fogs. If you don't know what that is, that's Earl Grey tea. And because I drink it like I'm not English, but I drink it like I'm English, I put a little bit of milk in it and then I sweeten it just a touch with a little bit of vanilla or A little bit of honey. Usually it's honey, but just a little bit. All my English peeps, all my English friends that I know, they love me for that. And some of them are watching this from across the pond or they're listening to this from across the pond and they're smiling big right now because they know how I drink my tea. And then from there, it depends on the day. If it's my gym days, I have a 4, 3 split. What do I mean by that? Well, on gym days, I have four days on and three days off. And I do it exactly like that. Four consecutive days on, three days off. And I do that each week. Now, my four days on, some people might say, oh, you should split up a little different. I'm going to tell you, the most effective gym routine you can maintain is the one that you're most likely to maintain. Ok, I'm not a trainer, but I've just discovered that over the years. And as a coach, I know that to be true. For me, though, I do four days straight. And I have found that for me, I have switched it to where I do it over the weekend. Gosh, I love that so much. I work out Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. So in other words, I'm ending my week at the gym and I'm starting my week at the gym. And it leaves me feeling so productive. For me, personally, it's just something I've really grown to like. And on other days, I like to try to watch the sun rise. In fact, something that I've discovered for my life that's really beneficial for me is grounding. And if you don't know what grounding is, this is something I actually discovered by accident. But I used to say that nothing quite grounds me than when I stand in the ocean, at least ankle deep, barefoot, in the ocean, with my feet in the sand and the ocean water coming over me. I don't care how warm or cold the water is, but it feels amazing for me. And on a trip I had one time to California, I was actually out in Santa Monica and by the Santa Monica Pier. I had never been there, so I wanted to go check it out. And I had a little time to get there. And when I went late in the day, I just happened to get there before the sun set. And when I did, I went and stood in the ocean as I watched the sun set. And my goodness, I left that trip feeling so recharged that even months and months and months later, I can still feel it. And I recognize that the Lord showed me that I had actually physically grounded myself in the ocean and by watching the sun set. So it actually helps with circadian rhythm and things of that nature. There was such an unlock for me. Well, guess what? I used to tell myself also that the only thing that felt as close to that is when I would stand in my pool. Now I understand not everybody has a swimming pool, but I have been blessed with the swimming pool and it has a tanning deck on it. So when you stand on that, you know the water is only about 6 to 8 inches deep, so about ankle deep. And it's a saltwater pool. And so I'll go and stand in that even when it's cold. And I'll stand in that as the sun is coming up. And I try to do it on the sunset too, but most days I'm not home by the sunset, but I try to stand in there when the sun's rising. And I'm going to tell you it's a complete and total reset for me. So no matter what your morning routine is, and it can vary from day to day, but at least have a routine that'll help you with hitting, not hitting that snooze button and turning the alarm off and getting up out of the day and being effective and purposeful about your day. Another thing that I will tell you is when I say being purposeful, the better. The better you go to bed with intention, the better with intention you'll wake up. In other words, it starts with success, with excellence. Success always starts the night before. You know, if you need to wake up early and you go to bed at 12:30 or later or 2 in the morning, it's not going to be as easy to wake up the next day. But if you go to bed earlier, 10, 10:30, maybe even for you, it's 9:30 or 8:30, depending what time you go to bed or wake up. When you go to bed with intention, it helps you to start your day with intention. Now you're building some powerful habits within your life. The next thing I want to talk to you about, and this is the fourth section, and this is the benefits of ditching the snooze button or benefits of stopping the snooze habit. Benefits of ditching the snooze button. The first thing I want to share with you is that it'll give you stronger mental clarity and it'll also help with emotional balance. Now if you're someone who struggles with emotional well being or mental health or something, I believe that this could probably help you. But keep in Mind, I'm no doctor. This is not your answer. All the end, all be all for maybe what you've got going on. But I will say this, though, whoever you are, when you wake up with the right purpose, and you wake up when you're supposed to wake up, when you say you're going to wake up because your word needs to mean something. And if you say you're going to wake up at a certain time, then you should wake up at that certain time without hitting snooze. And when you wake up, you're more emotionally balanced to start your day. And that'll carry into the rest of your day. You're not frantic, you're not upset, you're not running late. You're just being purposeful. There's a sense of success. It's like making your bed when you wake up every morning and understand when I gave you my routine a minute ago, I didn't give you everything in it. I just gave you some tidbits. So you had some examples and something to be an example before you. But making up your bed, I think is extremely important at the start of every day. Either me or my wife make up our bed every single day. That's something that the Lord had me start a couple years ago. I would wake up and the first thing I do, because I would tend to wake up after my wife, she's an early riser, so she wakes up before me. I would wake up and make up our bed right there and then. And my wife started doing it. And, man, my hope. My bed looks like a hotel bed, like a fancy hotel bed. It has, like, I probably have like 30 pillows on that bed. I say that joking around, but it looks really nice. Like, it's the kind of bed that if you were to turn around, oh, there's our alarm. It's telling me we're almost done. Sorry about that. This is the kind of thing that, like, on my bed. Sorry, I got distracted for a second. On my bed, like, if you looked at like a Pottery Barn magazine or something, that's what my bed looks like. So if I'm helping you paint a mental picture, that's what my bed looks like. And I got to tell you, when I come home to that bed at night or when I come to get ready to go to bed and I see all those pillows in the bed made up, that's going to be with intention. I look so forward to that every single night. That's also been a massive unlock or hack for my life to be able to help Me be more productive and intentional. It's such a blessing to me. The next thing I want to tell you is that the benefit of ditching the snooze button, here's the second one. It'll give you increased confidence and discipline. If you're someone who struggles with confidence, this is a great way to start down the confidence path. Now, it's only part of it, but if you start your day confidently, it carries on throughout your day. You've got a little pep in your step. The more discipline you develop by doing that, you're now more disciplined with other things throughout your day. This is a powerful impact of this. Another benefit is that the momentum that you start your day with, it carries through your day. In other words, it has almost like reciprocal effects or compounding effects. In other words, it actually can carry into your day. But when you do this day after day after day, it actually has compounding effects that benefit you. You know, I have a friend and someone who's dear to me that I know and she is a nutrition coach, but she also helps people with workout schedules and stuff. And she's worked on the Biggest Loser. I won't mention her name, but someone who's very close to me, very good, spiritual woman. And she told me one time that what they had actually found was that if someone was going to start their day with a 20 minute walk, that what they had actually found was that if they started their day with a 10 minute walk and then hit the 10 minute walk again later in the day, either after lunch or in the afternoon sometime, that the compounding effects of breaking up the 20 minute walk into two 10 minute walks was actually much more beneficial for your body than just a one time walk in the morning. Now again, keep in mind with the training schedule, it's whatever you can do best, whatever you can maintain, do that. But when she told me that, I incorporated that in my life. And I will tell you that I also noticed effects with that because your body's like, oh, we're working out again. And it goes right back into effect of burning the calories and doing everything it needs to. So those residual effects is what the benefit is. The compounding of residual effects, those are beneficial for you. That's the same thing when you create a momentum like this. When you do this day after day, man, you're a striver now, you're a high performer, you're a big baller now. And then the fourth thing that it benefits you with on ditching the snooze button is it gives you ownership over your time and your routines. I'm going to say that again. It gives you a sense of ownership over your time and your routines. And guys, the next thing that I want to go over with you, and this is what we'll close with today. I just want to finish with what I believe are some fresh outlooks that you can carry with you. After hearing about why you want to get away from the snooze button. The first thing is that every time you hit snooze, that equates to delayed destiny. That was a big one right there. Whoa. I'm going to say that again. Every time you hit snooze, it equates to delayed destiny. Every time you hit that snooze button, you're postponing the life you say you want to live. Every time you hit snooze, what you're subconsciously telling yourself, but what you're saying with your actions, and actions always speak louder than words. What you're saying with your actions is that you're willing to postpone your destiny. You're willing to postpone that life that you say you want so very badly. Those changes you say you want to see and receive. You know, when I turn around and talked earlier about having a swimming pool, a lot of people who listen to us are high performers and they may have pools as well, or they may not want one. But there are those out there who would definitely would love to have a pool. I for years wanted a pool. My wife and I both did. And we put our faith on that thing and we believed on it for years. We stood on the word for years for that pool. And we were blessed with a beautiful home that has a beautiful pool. It's not just a hole in the ground with some water in it. I have an elegant looking pool. I mean, it's beautiful. Praise God. I give all glory to him. None of me. All of him, none of me. But here's what I'm going to tell you. Maybe that resonated with you. Well, if you want something more, you're going to have to do something different. And maybe you're already doing all the things that you need to do, but you just need to continue doing them a little more consistent. And as you're doing that, understand every time you hit snooze, you're telling yourself subconsciously that your priorities, the things you really want in life, you're willing to postpone that for the snooze button. Don't be that individual. You know, I tell you all the time on this podcast that I believe in you. And I do. I believe in you. And I don't believe that you're willing to postpone your destiny any longer by hitting the snooze button. I believe in you. And if today was a little tweak or wake up call you needed, well, praise God, you got that. Now, the next thing we have, that's a fresh outlook. I want you to consider. It's our second one. I've got three for you. Is exceptional leaders don't hit snooze. I'm going to say that again. Exceptional leaders don't hit snooze. Why? Because exceptional leaders, they respond. Exceptional leaders, they show up and they learn to lead themselves first before they lead others. Exceptional leaders always respond. They always show up and they always start by leading themselves before they lead others. And our third and final thought for the fresh outlook today that we'll close with is the alarm clock is like your mirror. Goodness gracious. Maybe I need to make a podcast just for that. The alarm clock is like your mirror. It's your mirror of productivity. It's your mirror of your destiny. It's the mirror of your future. The alarm clock is like your mirror. How you respond to your alarm will reveal how you respond to your own commitments. Whoa, man, that's a heavy one. But that is good right there. That's good. How you respond to your alarm clock reveals how you're willing to respond to your commitments.
