Speaker:

Speaker:

Thank you so much for having me.

Speaker:

I love sharing tips and talking beauty.

Speaker:

So we're really excited about having you become our beauty girl and

Speaker:

providing tips for us and for our audience on how to look good on camera.

Speaker:

Because I know that every platform wants us to be on camera, even podcasts

Speaker:

are going more and more to video.

Speaker:

So we want to help people become confident on camera.

Speaker:

And I know you have some great tips for that.

Speaker:

So I'm excited to hear what you have to share with us today.

Speaker:

Yes, I'm so excited to talk about this.

Speaker:

This is something everywhere I go, people ask me when they hear I do

Speaker:

makeup, they're like, I need some tips.

Speaker:

What can you fix?

Speaker:

And a lot of people are so uncomfortable nowadays getting on camera.

Speaker:

So I tell them just do it.

Speaker:

And then I can have a few tips of maybe what not to do and what would look great.

Speaker:

And really, I love talking to anybody over 40.

Speaker:

You have the TikTok videos.

Speaker:

So that's a whole nother.

Speaker:

Other podcasts for us to talk about.

Speaker:

We don't really want to use those as our guide.

Speaker:

So as we age, my philosophy is less is more.

Speaker:

So you go on camera.

Speaker:

When I worked in Hollywood, we started going into high def and high def shows

Speaker:

a lot more than the old fashioned film.

Speaker:

So now that we're on our iPhone cell phones, Androids,

Speaker:

how good are those cameras?

Speaker:

So I always tell everybody lighting.

Speaker:

You guys know anybody over 40 bright light.

Speaker:

Bright window is your friend and blending is really the key when you're

Speaker:

especially, these are tips that I give people for in person if they're

Speaker:

going to an event and on camera.

Speaker:

So they work good for anybody that's, we'll say over 30.

Speaker:

It's amazing what AI and.

Speaker:

It was Photoshop when I first started doing makeup because everybody

Speaker:

would go in and touch up the photos in Photoshop and now it's photos

Speaker:

that are being touched up by AI.

Speaker:

So I want to tell everybody a lot of the things that you're seeing,

Speaker:

even in video and especially in photographs, are not necessarily what

Speaker:

is real and what is actually coming from the camera on the photographer

Speaker:

or the camera on the recorder.

Speaker:

So how can we make ourselves look better?

Speaker:

Look flawlessly natural and real, right?

Speaker:

I think the reason why video connects with people is because of

Speaker:

the fact that they get to know you.

Speaker:

And so I think the one good thing about video is people do

Speaker:

feel like they get to know you.

Speaker:

They learn your mannerisms and how you talk.

Speaker:

There's only so much you can do to look different on video.

Speaker:

And so I think.

Speaker:

That's what builds the know and trust is the fact that you're

Speaker:

not airbrushed to perfection.

Speaker:

I used to airbrush and the airbrush really just body makeup and light makeup.

Speaker:

We can do a whole segment on how to do that for real life.

Speaker:

I have some great pics, but it's not real.

Speaker:

It's covered and it's not natural.

Speaker:

We all have flaws and I always tell everybody that's what makes you

Speaker:

beautiful because we're not all the same.

Speaker:

Your flaws are what make you unique.

Speaker:

I've done really well in social media.

Speaker:

I started in social media before video was a thing and when I could get on

Speaker:

camera and people would see my crazy.

Speaker:

Curly hair, silly Jersey girl personality, really related to me.

Speaker:

And it was all about like, no one trusts.

Speaker:

Well, when I was in my thirties, nobody believed I could do skincare or makeup

Speaker:

for anybody in their fifties or sixties.

Speaker:

They didn't believe me, but a great example of really getting to

Speaker:

know somebody and being authentic on camera is Jennifer Garner.

Speaker:

She was one of my clients and everybody always asks me if you follow her

Speaker:

on Instagram, if you follow her on Facebook, Her personality of what she

Speaker:

does, the goofiness that she does.

Speaker:

Sometimes she's with no makeup.

Speaker:

She's never over made up, but that is her.

Speaker:

She is exactly like that.

Speaker:

She's the perfect example of transferring and, and just being true and authentic.

Speaker:

And really, I think that is really beautiful.

Speaker:

That's beauty.

Speaker:

We all know beauty comes from within.

Speaker:

So when I say shine and glitter, and we're talking about all these things that

Speaker:

we don't want to shine and be greasy on camera, you want to shine and let your

Speaker:

personality come through on camera.

Speaker:

And that's really important.

Speaker:

But there's a few beauty tips that I can give you to help too.

Speaker:

So how do we avoid being shiny on camera?

Speaker:

So first, I have three points.

Speaker:

So the first one is let's talk real quick about my favorite friend, glitter.

Speaker:

We all want to sparkle and shine, but how do both of you feel about glitter?

Speaker:

Can you just give me like, when would you wear glitter?

Speaker:

So glitter in the hair is fun and glitter on the face is a whole different thing.

Speaker:

So I love the tinsel in the hair.

Speaker:

That was a trend in LA a few years ago.

Speaker:

But when you do glitter on the face, what it does is if you're going to a costume

Speaker:

party, or if you have a game that you're going to something very novelty driven,

Speaker:

an event in person, it can totally work.

Speaker:

I do ballroom dancing.

Speaker:

Glitter is great on stage.

Speaker:

far away on a face, but when you're on camera, you're in a little

Speaker:

box and it is very reflective.

Speaker:

So specifically, we want to stay away from anything.

Speaker:

If you look at a product and flicks of glitter in it, you don't want to use it.

Speaker:

If you're going on camera, I tell a lot of brides want glitter when they get

Speaker:

married and what happens, which is similar on camera, but you're not flicking.

Speaker:

freezing the frame when you actually take a photo of yourself with

Speaker:

glitter on, you get black dots because the reflection catches the

Speaker:

light for that specific moment.

Speaker:

So you get all this freckling and it just isn't flattering.

Speaker:

So we want to keep the glitter for in person special events, but keep

Speaker:

in mind if you're being photographed, you don't want to do that either.

Speaker:

But on camera, we want to avoid sparkle and we don't want to use frosted.

Speaker:

It's grandma's lipstick and the primer eyeshadows that when you put it on your

Speaker:

hand, it looks pearl and then some.

Speaker:

So if you actually, you can do a test to see if it is frosted.

Speaker:

We want to stay away from that because the reflection is just too great and it makes

Speaker:

you look glossy, like shiny, like greasy.

Speaker:

But if you put it on the back of your hand and look at it, It emphasizes all

Speaker:

of the lines and creases and wrinkles.

Speaker:

And we don't want to emphasize that we want to diffuse away from that.

Speaker:

So as we age, you do not want to use frosted.

Speaker:

If your lips are very wrinkly, you don't want to use a frosted lipstick.

Speaker:

If you're everybody wants to put frosted on their eyes and I tell them

Speaker:

no frosted, anything anywhere near your eyes, cause it'll just bring

Speaker:

out all the wrinkles and the creases.

Speaker:

So we want to do.

Speaker:

Is we want to use another product, which I absolutely love, which is an Illuminizer

Speaker:

that will deflect and reflect the light.

Speaker:

And it actually, it smooths and gives the illusion that

Speaker:

all those wrinkles don't exist.

Speaker:

So are they actually called Illuminizer if we went to purchase something?

Speaker:

They actually are.

Speaker:

They're called aluminizers now.

Speaker:

For a few years, they've been doing some creams only

Speaker:

because we're talking about it.

Speaker:

I can't think of the name that they were using a few years ago.

Speaker:

But aluminizers, when you look at them, again, no sparkle.

Speaker:

It has a bit of a shimmer.

Speaker:

I tell everybody, we used to talk about How do you know, you don't want

Speaker:

to put eyeshadow on that's matte.

Speaker:

You don't want to use frost.

Speaker:

So what do you use?

Speaker:

So I used to go with just Mac has a variety of shades and that was the makeup

Speaker:

artist line that we used So I would say pick up a shadow and look at it Now I

Speaker:

definitely recommend matte shadows for anybody over 30, but I like to mix a

Speaker:

few different textures in with it so something that has a little bit of a

Speaker:

shimmer not a gloss or a frost, a shimmer.

Speaker:

So you look at it and it just twinkles a little bit.

Speaker:

It doesn't have a pearl essence to it, but it twinkles.

Speaker:

I always tell everybody I'm from New Jersey, like it looks like

Speaker:

snow has just fallen, but it doesn't have any pieces of glitter.

Speaker:

So you want something that has maybe just a teeny pop out from the mat.

Speaker:

That's what an aluminizer looks like.

Speaker:

And is it something you put under your makeup or is it something you put on top?

Speaker:

Is it colored?

Speaker:

I know nothing.

Speaker:

So that is a great question.

Speaker:

And the answer is yes to all of it.

Speaker:

So in makeup, everything goes right.

Speaker:

So it's making a cake.

Speaker:

It's like painting on a canvas.

Speaker:

There are no rules to makeup.

Speaker:

I can tell you what I like best, but you can do anything.

Speaker:

So a lot of the luminizers, so you have a few different products.

Speaker:

And I want to talk about primers after we talk about the aluminizers

Speaker:

too, but you have creams, you have liquids, and you have powders.

Speaker:

Usually those are what they come in.

Speaker:

So you have a stick that may come as a cream you would actually put.

Speaker:

So when you're doing your makeup, I tell everybody you want to layer

Speaker:

creams on top of creams and powder on top of powder and powder is

Speaker:

the last thing to go on your face.

Speaker:

Because if you try to put cream over powder, it's going to get all crumply.

Speaker:

And remember my.

Speaker:

Holy grail of makeup and especially makeup for video blend everything find

Speaker:

products that have a lot of pigment You don't need a lot of product.

Speaker:

You need good coverage and the right product and blend it blend every no

Speaker:

lines anywhere Okay, so an illuminizer if you have bad eyesight Hi, over 50.

Speaker:

My eyes now, I'm like, I need my glasses.

Speaker:

I can't really see.

Speaker:

How can I do my eyes with glasses?

Speaker:

The Illuminizer, when it's put in the right place, it will

Speaker:

actually blend everything for you.

Speaker:

So, my answer to that is, if it's a liquid, it goes on first, but you're

Speaker:

going to lose a little bit of the effect.

Speaker:

I like the creams or the powders that you put on last.

Speaker:

Because it is your final blend.

Speaker:

But there are a lot of different types of Illuminizers and I tell everybody,

Speaker:

remember it's going to add a little sheen.

Speaker:

I don't know if you can see on my face, on my cheek area,

Speaker:

I put Illuminizer right here.

Speaker:

So it looks dewy, it doesn't look greasy, it doesn't look shiny,

Speaker:

but it has some pigmentation.

Speaker:

And I cover it, but then I put an Illuminizer on it and it diffuses it.

Speaker:

So if you have any imperfections that you don't like, an illuminizer can

Speaker:

work great, but you don't want to, if you put it all over your face, I

Speaker:

don't know what it would look like.

Speaker:

Not good.

Speaker:

When you use a luminizer, you really want to target the areas that you

Speaker:

want to diffuse and bring out.

Speaker:

So I tell everybody, two fingers under your eye, right where your eyelashes are.

Speaker:

You don't want to put anything under there.

Speaker:

You've tried so hard to conceal and lighten and cover

Speaker:

all that's under our eyes.

Speaker:

We want to not put any additional product on there.

Speaker:

But when you go to your cheekbone, if you smile, if you guys tap

Speaker:

your cheekbone right now, you can feel where it sticks out.

Speaker:

And if you smile, you have your apple and then you can feel it sticks

Speaker:

out all the way to your ear, right?

Speaker:

The top, the kind of middle of your ear, that's where you want to put your blush.

Speaker:

And the luminizer just goes on the first quarter of that with a nice big brush.

Speaker:

So it would be three fingers.

Speaker:

Is where like the brush you want to use and that's where you're going

Speaker:

to put it right in the front of like the apples to the middle of your eye.

Speaker:

That's where I suggest putting a luminizer always and forever.

Speaker:

And you can blend the top of your cheek over out to your ears.

Speaker:

You can also, if you put it down your nose, you're going to get a lightning

Speaker:

effect if you put it on your chin.

Speaker:

It's also going to give a lightning effect, but you

Speaker:

might look a little greasy.

Speaker:

So I tell people, if you get shiny, don't put it on your nose.

Speaker:

You can also put it on the middle of your forehead, but if you do tend to get oily,

Speaker:

don't put it on your forehead or your chin because it will just emphasize once you

Speaker:

start getting oily, it'll emphasize that.

Speaker:

So I love using it on my decollete.

Speaker:

Which is our chest area, our chest bones, or a, the collarbones.

Speaker:

And I really love the last step in blending out my blush.

Speaker:

Because a lot of people are afraid of blush, especially on camera.

Speaker:

They're like, no, I'm red.

Speaker:

I don't want to wear anything.

Speaker:

It's going to be too red on camera.

Speaker:

Put the blush on.

Speaker:

I usually blend it with my fingers.

Speaker:

And the last thing that I do is I take my illuminizer and

Speaker:

I just lightly brush it over.

Speaker:

I tap it off before I swipe it, brush it in the beginning and

Speaker:

it blends all my cheekbone area.

Speaker:

And then it gives you this beautiful dewy and alumina diffused look on your cheek.

Speaker:

And I really believe that using an aluminizer the right

Speaker:

way is so youthful looking.

Speaker:

Earlier, you mentioned primer.

Speaker:

Tell us about primer and who should use it and where we should use it.

Speaker:

So primer is great for anyone over 30.

Speaker:

There's a primer that I suggest for oily skin.

Speaker:

It's more of a gel.

Speaker:

Or a clear, thicker product.

Speaker:

You want to put that on clean skin after your moisturizer, before

Speaker:

you start your makeup, because it actually acts as a barrier and

Speaker:

it holds the oil underneath it.

Speaker:

It's great in warmer climates.

Speaker:

And so anybody that's oily, I've had great results from that.

Speaker:

And it goes on like butter.

Speaker:

If you're dry, a primer that is more of a cream.

Speaker:

Or a, I want to say like a, a silicone base.

Speaker:

I know that it has a little bit of like butter feel to it, a cream or something

Speaker:

that has a little bit of a, even a color goes and it fills in the lines.

Speaker:

So it settles into the fine lines and wrinkles.

Speaker:

So it can actually give you a flatter surface.

Speaker:

Surface to put your makeup on, which is un.

Speaker:

Then if anybody has discoloration, any product that has a little bit

Speaker:

of a concealer or a color in it, I love using tinted moisturizers for

Speaker:

this, that you can use it as a primer and it just takes away it, it holds

Speaker:

the color that's under the skin.

Speaker:

A lot of people have redness, a lot of people have darkness.

Speaker:

A lot of us has pigmentation, the primers that have a little bit of

Speaker:

a neutral undertone, or you can see that it's like camouflage.

Speaker:

That works great in those areas.

Speaker:

You can do spot treatment or all over the face.

Speaker:

A lot of people using it, like using it on their eyelids to just get that.

Speaker:

I always tell everybody you're going to be a canvas.

Speaker:

So you want to start with no color.

Speaker:

You want to get all of the lines and wrinkles of the canvas, nice and taut.

Speaker:

Then you can do whatever you want on top of it.

Speaker:

Perfect.

Speaker:

And so we know we've got to use primer.

Speaker:

Nothing glittery or shiny, but we do want to use an Illuminizer.

Speaker:

So we want to have some reflective light and diffuse and blend everything.

Speaker:

The Illuminizer is the secret sauce to when people say, why does

Speaker:

your skin look so good, Michelle?

Speaker:

It's because I have Illuminizer and I place it in the right spot.

Speaker:

Another, I'm going to blow your mind now too.

Speaker:

You can also do a primer that has an Illuminizer in it and that would go under.

Speaker:

So that would be, it's usually a liquid and it has a little

Speaker:

bit of an iridescence to it.

Speaker:

So it just, it's a nice base.

Speaker:

For your face to start your makeup with.

Speaker:

And sometimes if you have a lighter base, you can see a little bit of

Speaker:

the luminescence that comes through.

Speaker:

If you put it on top, you can just put it in those areas and blend it out after.

Speaker:

So if anybody has questions, they can always reach out to me.

Speaker:

I just have so much information.

Speaker:
