Hello and welcome to Monday Myth Busting on the Choosing Happy Podcast.
Speaker AI'm Heather Masters and let's tackle one of the most damaging myths in personal development that you need to be enough.
Speaker AIt's not just a damaging myth in personal development, it's a damaging myth in our head.
Speaker ASo here's the thing.
Speaker AWe're told that if we just work harder, do more, push further, we'll finally reach that magical place called enough.
Speaker ABut what if I told you that chasing enough is exactly what keeps you feeling not enough?
Speaker AWhat if the whole concept is designed to keep you running on a hamster wheel that never stops?
Speaker AStay tuned for this Monday's episode of the Choosing Happy Podcast.
Speaker ALet me share something brutally honest.
Speaker AFor years, I was the poster child for this myth.
Speaker ABreaking records on major projects, working ungodly hours, pushing my teams and myself beyond what we thought was possible.
Speaker AAnd we did it.
Speaker AWe really 10x results.
Speaker AAnd here's the kicker.
Speaker AI was actually teaching time management as well.
Speaker AAnd running productivity workshops.
Speaker AWell, feeling like I was barely keeping my head above water.
Speaker AAnd the irony wasn't lost on me, honestly.
Speaker AThere I was, standing in front of corporate audiences with my color coded calendars and delegation frameworks, while inside, I felt a complete fraud, balancing everything and pushing onwards.
Speaker AEvery success felt hollow because I knew, I just knew that I'd have to prove myself all over again tomorrow.
Speaker ASo I never really celebrated.
Speaker AI never paused.
Speaker AThe goal posts kept moving and I kept chasing it like some sort of corporate greyhound.
Speaker ADoes that sound familiar?
Speaker ABut here's where it gets really painful.
Speaker AWhen I was caring for my parents, doing Multiple nursing roles, 24, 7 for both of them, that nagging voice was relentless.
Speaker AYou're not enough.
Speaker AYou're failing them.
Speaker AYou should be doing more.
Speaker AYou should be capable of more.
Speaker AI was exhausted, stretched beyond every limit, beyond limits I didn't even know existed.
Speaker AAnd I was still beating myself up for not being enough.
Speaker ABut looking back now, I can see the truth.
Speaker AI. I give everything a heart, every ounce of me.
Speaker AAnd that was enough, even when it didn't feel like it.
Speaker ASo I wanted to share a couple of lessons today that I learned along the way.
Speaker AThe pursuit of enough actually reinstalls the belief that you're not enough.
Speaker AIt's a psychological trap.
Speaker AThe more you try to prove you're enough, the more you're operating from the belief that you're not.
Speaker AYou end up proving yourself right.
Speaker AAnd secondly, no one is ever going to be 100% enough for anything.
Speaker AAnd that's perfectly human.
Speaker AWe're designed to grow, expand and learn.
Speaker AIf you're already enough in every situation, you'd stop evolving.
Speaker AYou'd stop learning.
Speaker AThe discomfort of not being enough is often life trying to teach you something new to get you to stretch beyond your comfort zone.
Speaker AAnd thirdly, freedom comes when you accept that you're not enough and show up anyway.
Speaker AWhen you stop trying to be enough and start being present, everything changes.
Speaker AYou can finally enjoy the present moment because you're not constantly measuring yourself against an impossible standard, and miracles happen in the present.
Speaker ATime expands and you achieve more from that place than from a place of pressure.
Speaker ASo here's your challenge for this week.
Speaker AEvery time you catch yourself in the Not Enough spiral, pause, take three breaths and just ask yourself, what if I'm exactly enough to take just the next step?
Speaker ANot the whole staircase, not the entire journey, just the inspired next step.
Speaker ANotice how that feels different, lighter, more possible.
Speaker AAnd similarly, you don't even have to see the whole picture, just take the next step.
Speaker AIf this myth has been running your life, you're definitely not alone.
Speaker AShare your enough stories with me at Heather Heather v. Masters.com the good, the messy, and everything in between.
Speaker AAnd if you know someone trapped on the Enough hamster wheel, share this episode with them and subscribe for more myth busting that actually sets you free instead of giving you more to do.
Speaker AAnd remember, you don't need to be enough.
Speaker AYou just need to be you.
Speaker ABeautifully and perfectly, gloriously human.
Speaker ABecause you always are enough.
Speaker AAnyway, now I'm off to be spectacularly not enough at something and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it.
Speaker ASpeak soon.
Speaker AThank you so much for taking the time to listen to this week's episode.
