Speaker BWe'Re diving into a game changing topic.
Speaker AChoosing to be obsessed with your life and your happiness.
Speaker AWe're talking about embracing obsession.
Speaker ANot the unhealthy kind, but the kind.
Speaker BThat few fuels your potential, lights up.
Speaker AYour soul, gets you falling in love.
Speaker BWith life again, and propels you toward a life you're absolutely passionate about and in love with.
Speaker AThis episode is inspired by Grant Cardone's.
Speaker BBook Be Obsessed or Be Average.
Speaker AAnd we're going to explore how choosing obsession over mediocrity can transform your happiness and how help you fulfill your true potential.
Speaker APlus, stick around for a practical exercise you can do today to kickstart your obsession with living your best life.
Speaker ASo stay tuned for this week's Choosing Happy Podcast.
Speaker AHello and welcome to this week's Choosing Happy Podcast.
Speaker BI'm Heather Masters and as you probably.
Speaker AHeard in the introduction, this is all about choosing to be obsessed with your.
Speaker BLife and, and your happiness and your joy and your passion for living.
Speaker BAnd it was inspired by this week.
Speaker AWhen I've been reading and listening to Grant Cardone's book Be Obsessed or Be Average.
Speaker AAnd whether you like the guy or.
Speaker BNot, the, the sentiment is so very timely for me.
Speaker BI have found myself being unable to commit 100% to what I really love and what I really want to do with my life.
Speaker AI love the podcast.
Speaker AAm I 100% in?
Speaker AI'm probably about 90.
Speaker BAnd that's been more evident with kind.
Speaker AOf running out of ideas for how I can inspire people, how I can.
Speaker BInspire this happiness when I wasn't feeling.
Speaker BFeeling so obsessed, if you like, so.
Speaker APassionate about happiness myself.
Speaker BSo this week I wanted to dig into what I'm learning, dig into the commitments I'm making and inviting you to consider whether it's time for you to.
Speaker AGet obsessed with your own life, with your aliveness, with happiness, with the relationships around you.
Speaker AAnd that's one of the things that Grant Cardone starts off saying right at the beginning.
Speaker AIt's not about being obsessed obsessed by one thing.
Speaker BIt's about being obsessed with the things you want to be obsessed with in your life so that you play all.
Speaker AOut, you go in fully, you're giving everything you give your attention to 100%.
Speaker ANow, if you don't know, Grant Cardone.
Speaker BIs a wildly successful entrepreneur and he.
Speaker AArgues that obsession is the key to unlocking your potential.
Speaker BAnd if you do have a problem with the word obsession, then you can replace it with passion.
Speaker AI was listening to a podcast last.
Speaker BWeek, the School of Greatness, and Brendan.
Speaker ABurchard was the guest, and he said that the.
Speaker BThere's two things that make successful people really successful, and he's talking millionaires, billionaires.
Speaker BOne of them is, is confidence, assertiveness.
Speaker AHe kind of put those together as one.
Speaker BAnd the other thing was conviction.
Speaker ASo if the word obsession doesn't work.
Speaker BFor you, then maybe check in with how convicted you are to achieve what you want.
Speaker ABack to Grant Cardone in his book Be Obsessed or Be Average, he says.
Speaker BThat obsession is what you need to achieve anything extraordinary.
Speaker BAnd it's not about settling for good enough or coasting through life.
Speaker BIt's about relentlessly pursuing what sets your heart on fire.
Speaker AAnd I think that's the choice.
Speaker AAnd you know, this is the Choosing.
Speaker BHappy podcast, and it's.
Speaker BIt is a choice.
Speaker AWhere does your happiness lie?
Speaker BIf you're happy coasting through life, then that's absolutely fine.
Speaker BThat's your choice.
Speaker ABut if you feel there's something missing or if life's asking more of you.
Speaker BThen this is what this episode is all about.
Speaker ASo here's the deal.
Speaker BMost people are conditioned to avoid obsession, to avoid conviction, to avoid playing fully out and being fully focused on their success.
Speaker ASociety tells us to play it safe.
Speaker BDon'T get too excited, or to be realistic.
Speaker BI love that one.
Speaker ABut Cardone flips that script.
Speaker BHe says being average is the real danger.
Speaker BAverage goals, average effort, average, average happiness.
Speaker AAnd if you want to choose happiness.
Speaker BAnd fulfill your potential, you've got to get obsessed, get convicted about your dreams, your growth and your joy.
Speaker BFor me, being average, playing average, in my experience, I found myself shrinking, really pulling back, especially over the last few.
Speaker AYears when we've been through lockdowns and the world has changed.
Speaker BIt's been really easy to.
Speaker ATo get comfortable kind of living in a box of my own making.
Speaker BAnd this has given me the drive.
Speaker AIf you like, to choose something different.
Speaker BAs we go forward.
Speaker ASo the podcast will change.
Speaker BI'll become more convicted about helping you.
Speaker BAnd as part of that, I would love it if you could drop me a line, drop me an email and let me know what it is that you want from the podcast, what it is that you want from the episodes going forward.
Speaker AWhy do you listen?
Speaker AWhy would you listen?
Speaker BIf I'm not delivering, what is it you'd prefer to hear?
Speaker BAnd that email address is heatherhoosinghappy.co.uk now.
Speaker ALet'S break down three key ideas from the be obsessed or be average book that tie directly into choosing happiness and.
Speaker BTo living up to your potential.
Speaker ANumber one is own your purpose with obsession.
Speaker AAnd Cardone emphasizes that obsession starts with.
Speaker BKnowing your why, your purpose.
Speaker BAnd again, he says that it's not just one purpose, it's your purpose for doing what you're doing.
Speaker ASo if you're obsessed with something you're.
Speaker BDoing at work, know why?
Speaker BWhat's the purpose behind your work?
Speaker BWhat's the purpose behind your family?
Speaker BWhat's the purpose behind your relationships, your broader community?
Speaker AHappiness isn't something that just happens.
Speaker BIt's a byproduct of living in alignment with your deepest desires and potential.
Speaker BAnd when you're obsessed with your purpose, when you're obsessed with living aliveness, irrespective of what's happening to you, you wake up every day with energy, focus and a reason to keep going each even when life gets tough.
Speaker ASo ask yourself, what's the one thing you'd do every day if money and time weren't obstacles?
Speaker BIn fact, Grant Cardone rephrases that question to what's the one thing you do every day if money wasn't part of the equation?
Speaker BAnd I feel that question actually gets me thinking broader than.
Speaker ABecause if it wasn't an obstacle, I automatically go to.
Speaker BYeah, but maybe it, you know, it would be an obstacle.
Speaker BSo if, if money wasn't even in the equation, what's the one thing you would do every day if it didn't even, you know, you didn't even relate.
Speaker ATo anything that you did?
Speaker AWhat would that one thing be?
Speaker ASo that's your starting point.
Speaker AAnd choosing happiness means choosing to chase.
Speaker BThat purpose with everything that you've got.
Speaker BNo apologies.
Speaker BIt's that decision point that 100% in point two that Cardone brings up is.
Speaker ARejecting mediocrity and raising your standards for.
Speaker BYourself and for me.
Speaker BPart of that is really respecting yourself, respecting your purpose, respecting what you're here for.
Speaker AIf you have that niggling drive that.
Speaker BWon'T go away and you know you've been ignoring it for 20 years, maybe that's why you're not happy, because you're resisting your passion.
Speaker BCardone's mantra is clear.
Speaker AAverage is a failing formula.
Speaker AIf you're settling for a life that's fine or okay, and you're not choosing.
Speaker BYour passion, then you're probably not choosing happiness.
Speaker AYou're choosing complacency.
Speaker AAnd going back to the Brendan Bashar interview, that's one thing that he says, if you aren't choosing your purpose, then you aren't choosing alignment.
Speaker BAnd that often is what creates the struggle that we face in everyday life.
Speaker ASo to fulfill your potential, you've got to set massive, almost intimidating goals.
Speaker AAnd I struggled with this because, you.
Speaker BKnow, if you set huge, intimidating goals.
Speaker AThen my brain goes to how am.
Speaker BI going to fulfill them?
Speaker ABut it's about forgetting the how and just writing them down anyway.
Speaker AIt's a really fascinating way of setting.
Speaker BGoals the way that Grant Cardone does it.
Speaker AHe.
Speaker BHe doesn't have specific goals that he repeats over and over again, but he writes his goals in the morning when he first wakes up, and at night just before he goes to bed.
Speaker ASo he's choosing those times when your.
Speaker BUnconscious is really going to buy into what you're envisioning.
Speaker BSo he writes what comes up for him.
Speaker BHe writes what is coming up intuitively.
Speaker AWhat he's being guided to write.
Speaker AAnd he doesn't question, just writes them down.
Speaker BBut then he visualizes and feels the emotion, feels himself there, writes them as if they're complete.
Speaker BAnd I've only been doing it now.
Speaker AFor three days, and I know it's.
Speaker BMaking a difference already, even though some.
Speaker AOf the things that I'm writing down.
Speaker BYou know, if you wanted to use that word, realistic, they might be years away, but who knows?
Speaker BI don't know what's going to happen.
Speaker BAnd I know that one of them.
Speaker BThere's already things showing up that I could never have predicted.
Speaker BSo I've just got to take the.
Speaker AActions that I've been intuitively guided to.
Speaker BTake and without any attachment, because it's.
Speaker ASuch a big goal.
Speaker AI'm not attached to it happening now.
Speaker BAnd that really makes a difference.
Speaker ASo if you want to feel alive.
Speaker BIf you want to become obsessed with aliveness, obsessed with being present, stop aiming.
Speaker AFor comfortable and start aiming for extraordinary.
Speaker BBecause we are all extraordinary.
Speaker BI believe that we're all here for our own unique purpose in life.
Speaker BAnd if we're choosing complacency and we're.
Speaker AChoosing not to live, that, that's absolutely fine.
Speaker BBut there's that point of accepting that that's what you're doing and being happy with ties directly to happiness.
Speaker ABecause when you push yourself to grow, you build your confidence, you build your resilience, and you build a sense of accomplishment, even if it's the small things, if it's things that you've been resisting.
Speaker BAnd I know that I've been resisting really small things, but knowing that I'm actually automatically doing them, things that I've.
Speaker ABeen putting off for months.
Speaker AI'm just automatically doing them now.
Speaker AAnd that's after three, four days as.
Speaker BI say, of doing this goal setting and it's making a difference and it's really good.
Speaker BThat sense of accomplishment, of ticking those things that I've been, you know, I've been given mental weight to for months and some of them years when it's taken maybe 10, 15 minutes to actually accomplish them.
Speaker ASo yeah, so you can release a lot of mental baggage by just doing.
Speaker BA few of those things that actually aren't that big and just questioning why.
Speaker AYou'Ve been resisting anyway.
Speaker ASo happiness isn't found in staying small.
Speaker BIt isn't found in resisting.
Speaker AIt's found in stretching yourself to become.
Speaker BThe best version of you, to move out of your comfort zone, to move forward.
Speaker BTake massive action consistently is point 3.
Speaker AAnd Cardone is all about 10x thinking, taking actions that are 10 times bigger.
Speaker BThan what you think is necessary.
Speaker BNow this one, this is my huge resistance and I'll put my hand up and I'm willing to get myself into a mindset that if I am 100%.
Speaker ACommitted to making this go, I am.
Speaker BGoal, I am going to take the.
Speaker AActions that are required.
Speaker ASo choosing to be obsessed with your.
Speaker BOwn life, with your own happiness, choosing takes massive action.
Speaker BIt means taking consistent action towards your goals.
Speaker BIt's not about waiting for the perfect.
Speaker AMoment or the right mood.
Speaker BThough I do think intuitively some things.
Speaker AAre about waiting for the right time.
Speaker BIt's about showing up every single day and doing the work.
Speaker BWhether that's learning a new skill, showing up on social media, creating videos, taking photographs.
Speaker BYeah, I hate doing selfies.
Speaker AYou probably notice if you ever look.
Speaker BAt any of my social media, there are very few pictures of me.
Speaker BThat's something that I know I need to change and I am willing to do that.
Speaker AAre you wanting to build a side.
Speaker BHustle or are you investing in your.
Speaker AMental and emotional well being?
Speaker BAnd just on that note, my program.
Speaker AIs still open and you'll find the.
Speaker BLink in the comments.
Speaker BHappiness is a verb.
Speaker AIt's something you do.
Speaker AAnd when you take massive action towards your potential and this is what it's about, it's getting obsessed with your potential.
Speaker AIt's getting obsessed with living the life.
Speaker BYou'Re meant to live.
Speaker BIt's a one time journey and it's about questioning, you know what, what would.
Speaker AYou like your legacy to be?
Speaker BWhat do you want to be saying that you've achieved?
Speaker ACreate a feedback loop of progress and.
Speaker BJoy that fuels Your obsession even, and really do check in and celebrate.
Speaker BI mentioned this over and over again.
Speaker ACelebrating those small things as well as the big things.
Speaker BAnd part of that feedback loop is.
Speaker AJust writing those goals each day and noticing how they change as you achieve them.
Speaker BOkay, let's get real for a second.
Speaker ANow, choosing to be obsessed with your.
Speaker BLife and happiness isn't just about big ideas.
Speaker AIt's about practical steps you can take right now, today.
Speaker ASo here's a quick exercise inspired by.
Speaker BCardone's philosophy to help you ignite that obsession and start fulfilling your potential today.
Speaker AI'm calling it the Obsession Blueprint.
Speaker BSo grab a notebook or open a note on your phone and let's do this together.
Speaker AIt's designed to help you clarify your purpose and commit to massive action.
Speaker BIt'll take about 10 minutes, but it.
Speaker ACould change the trajectory of your life.
Speaker BIf you choose for it to.
Speaker BAs Grant Cardone specifies, you don't just have one purpose.
Speaker AYou might have one overarching purpose.
Speaker BBut what we're looking at is what's your purpose in your family life?
Speaker BWhat's your purpose at work?
Speaker BWhat's your purpose with your friends and with your community?
Speaker ASo choose one of those.
Speaker AChoose one of those purposes.
Speaker BSo if you're thinking about work, for instance, we're going to begin with writing your obsessed why?
Speaker AAnd answer this question.
Speaker BWhat's one goal or dream that makes you feel alive just thinking about it?
Speaker AMaybe it's starting a business or writing.
Speaker BA book or becoming the healthiest version of yourself of finding Mr.
Speaker ARight or Mrs.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AWrite it down and then write why it matters to you.
Speaker BAnd be specific about why it matters.
Speaker AWhat'S important to you about it.
Speaker AWhen you write that first thing down.
Speaker BAsk again what's important to you about that till you get to the core, the reality essence of why this is important to you, why it matters.
Speaker BBe specific and be specific about how achieving this will make you happier, more fulfilled, feel more alive, and help you fulfill your potential.
Speaker BSo pause the recording and take a moment to do that.
Speaker ANow, step two is to define your 10x goal.
Speaker BSo take that dream and make it 10 times bigger.
Speaker AFor example, if your goal is to.
Speaker BGet fit, your 10 times goal might be to run a marathon and inspire.
Speaker AOthers to prioritize their health.
Speaker BIf it's to start a business, your.
Speaker A10 times goal could be to build.
Speaker BA business that impacts thousands of lives.
Speaker BGet specific about it, though.
Speaker ASo instead of, you know, thousands of lives, how many thousands, thousands of lives.
Speaker BWould you like to inspire and impact this year?
Speaker BWrite down this bigger, bolder vision, write.
Speaker AIt as if it's already happened and don't censor yourself.
Speaker BLet it be audacious.
Speaker ASo one of my goals, and it's.
Speaker BSomething I don't mention very often, is to create a sanctuary for children who have suffered from abuse.
Speaker BAnd I've been writing that goal down for a while, but I haven't done it morning and night and I started to do it morning and night and.
Speaker AI, I have a very clear vision.
Speaker BOf, of how it would be set up, what the structure would be, how it would work, how it would be funded.
Speaker ASo I have a very clear vision.
Speaker BOf this place and I.
Speaker BAnd part of the vision is, you know, hundreds of children, happy children who are healing and moving forward.
Speaker BYesterday there was something that tied in with a few books that I'm reading that gives me an opportunity to take.
Speaker AAn action, to move forward on this.
Speaker AAnd that's what step three is.
Speaker ACommit to one massive action.
Speaker AAnd a massive action can just be.
Speaker BSomething that is going to make.
Speaker AIt can be a small action that.
Speaker BMakes a big difference.
Speaker BAnd that's what I'm going to do today.
Speaker BI'm actually going to reach out to.
Speaker AA charity that's already working with these children.
Speaker ASo pick one action you can take.
Speaker BToday to move towards that 10x goal.
Speaker AIt could be signing up for a.
Speaker BCourse, it could be scheduling a workout, or it could be doing that thing you're resisting.
Speaker BSo I was talking to a friend.
Speaker AYesterday who was saying that her husband.
Speaker BWanted to start running, but he.
Speaker AThe thing he put in his way, the resistance was that he decided he.
Speaker BNeeded some new running clothes, which he never bought, so he never got out running.
Speaker ASo if you have the same thing.
Speaker BThat, yeah, I'm going to do that, but have a look at that butt and remove it.
Speaker BChoose if that butt's big enough.
Speaker BIf you really do need to buy new workout clothes, then go buy them.
Speaker BIf it's just an excuse, just go run.
Speaker BSo whether it's emailing someone who can help you, which is what I'll be doing today, whatever it is, whatever you've been resisting, begin today.
Speaker BChoose to remove that barrier and just start.
Speaker AWrite it down.
Speaker BAnd then here's the key.
Speaker BDo it within the next 24 hours.
Speaker BSo I'm holding up my hand that I am sending this email today, so it'll be sent in the next 24 hours.
Speaker AAnd as I say this, this sanctuary.
Speaker BFeels so out of reach right now.
Speaker BBut who knows?
Speaker ALet's see what happens with this email.
Speaker BCardone says action creates momentum and momentum creates fulfillment, happiness, aliveness, because you can feel that energy.
Speaker BAnd when you're done, keep this blueprint.
Speaker BKeep these answers somewhere that you can see them daily, have a look at them morning and night.
Speaker BRevisit it, refine it, and keep taking massive action and create it for other.
Speaker AAreas of your life.
Speaker BSo this is one goal we're looking at.
Speaker BChoose how you can become obsessed with your life and your happiness and with these goals that you're creating for yourself.
Speaker AI hope you've enjoyed this episode.
Speaker BLet's wrap up this with this one final thought from Obsessed or be average.
Speaker AObsession is the fuel for success and.
Speaker BSuccess is the fuel for happiness.
Speaker AChoosing to be obsessed with your life means refusing to settle.
Speaker AIt means embracing your purpose and taking.
Speaker BRelentless action to fulfill your potential to create a life of aliveness.
Speaker BIt's not always easy and it's about a consistent choice, but it's always worth it.
Speaker AI'd love to hear from you.
