I'm on vacation.
Speaker AThat doesn't mean we don't have an episode.
Speaker ALet's get started.
Speaker AWelcome to the Ata Nation podcast.
Speaker AWelcome back to the Ata Nation podcast.
Speaker AThis is episode 150.
Speaker ACan you believe it?
Speaker A157.
Speaker ANow, ladies and gentlemen, I am on vacation.
Speaker AAs usual.
Speaker AThis is a pre recorded episode which is pretty normal, except earlier this week you got to witness a live episode again with senior master Taekwond Lee.
Speaker AWhat a joy.
Speaker ASo excited about all these awards, all these things going on.
Speaker ADon't miss your chance to be at World Championships.
Speaker ADon't forget, World Championships is not just an event for black belt.
Speaker AIt's not just an event for people who are in the Tournament of Champions.
Speaker AThe World Championships is actually three different events.
Speaker AWe've talked about this recently.
Speaker ANumber one, it's the World Conference.
Speaker AThis is a great opportunity to train.
Speaker AWe had a Grandmaster Stauber on a couple of times ago on our live episode talking about the Empower her seminar.
Speaker AFor the ladies out there, we've got the ATA Max seminars.
Speaker AThere's so much training opportunity at that.
Speaker ATalk to your instructor about getting registered for those now.
Speaker AAlso there is the Tournament of Champions.
Speaker AThis is the the only tournament really, except for districts.
Speaker ADistricts in the Tournament of Champions you have to qualify for and you have to be qualified to participate in those.
Speaker AAnd then we have the Super 20.
Speaker AThis is the new season tournament.
Speaker AAnyone and everybody with instructor permission can compete there.
Speaker ASo don't miss your opportunity.
Speaker AThere's.
Speaker AIt's still.
Speaker AYou can still register.
Speaker AThere's still time to come and join us with all the fun.
Speaker ASpeaking of all the fun, we have an awesome athlete of the week this week.
Speaker ALet's go now at Nation, I am super excited to have with us another amazing athlete and hey ma' am, can you introduce yourself for us?
Speaker BHello.
Speaker BHa Nation.
Speaker BMy name is Maya Mo and I'm from Wanakee, Wisconsin.
Speaker AThat last name seems familiar to me.
Speaker ADo you have some instructors that might have the same last name?
Speaker BYes, both of my instructors, my parents, my mom and dad.
Speaker BOur master is here.
Speaker AExcellent.
Speaker AYeah, go ahead, go ahead.
Speaker AName them all.
Speaker BMaster Mike Mo and Master Michelle Moe.
Speaker AYes, they are pretty awesome people.
Speaker ASo I'm gonna guess that you've been doing Taekwondo for a long time then?
Speaker BYes, for sure.
Speaker AWhen did you do you know, when you started?
Speaker AWas it basically when you were born, they just like threw you on the mat and made you start kicking and punching?
Speaker BBasically.
Speaker BSo I started when I was 3, almost 4 years old.
Speaker BSo like back 2016.
Speaker ANice and how old are you now, ma' am?
Speaker BI'm 12 years old.
Speaker AYou're an old lady now, man.
Speaker AOkay, so what rank are you?
Speaker AI forgot to ask that.
Speaker BI'm a second degree black belt.
Speaker BI got it in May.
Speaker AVery good.
Speaker ACongratulations.
Speaker AOkay, so you tournament season is over.
Speaker AThe main tournament season.
Speaker AWe're getting ready for the toc.
Speaker ASo how did the tournament season go for you this year?
Speaker ADid you have some goals that you were working towards?
Speaker BYeah, so last year I got two world titles in traditional weapons and extreme forms.
Speaker BThis year I'm in a new division, so districts went pretty great.
Speaker BI got all four titles in all four of my events that I do mainly.
Speaker BAnd yeah, so I'm hoping for at least one title this next coming up.
Speaker BWorlds.
Speaker AExcellent.
Speaker ACongratulations.
Speaker AThat's fantastic.
Speaker ANow speaking of, you know, competition and things like that, what is your favorite event to compete in?
Speaker ASo ma' am, what with tournaments is kind of the event that you really enjoy doing the most.
Speaker BSo that is a really hard question.
Speaker BI do four events most of the time.
Speaker BI think one of my favorite for sure is traditional weapons.
Speaker BIt's hard between traditional weapons and extreme forms because I think I started weapons mid last year and I really liked it.
Speaker BI used the sword, so I think I'm going to have to go with traditional weapons.
Speaker ACool, very good.
Speaker AAnd then do you do extreme weapons or extreme forms or both?
Speaker BI do extreme forms in creative form.
Speaker BSo no extreme creative weapons.
Speaker AOkay, very cool.
Speaker AExcellent.
Speaker AI actually think I just saw a video.
Speaker AIs there maybe, I mean, I don't want to spill the beans, but is there a, like a maybe a level up team coming to some team competition like, like at Worlds or something?
Speaker BYes.
Speaker BSo we just started our new demo team.
Speaker BIt's not coming to Worlds just yet.
Speaker BI think we're gonna start competing next year in April, something somewhere.
Speaker ABut yeah, after I asked that I realized they don't even have that competition at World Championships.
Speaker AYou guys are getting ready for the next.
Speaker AOoh, I saw that video and I was like, they are working on some cool stuff.
Speaker AI love to see it.
Speaker BStart competing with it.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AOkay, so if you had to pick an event that was like not your favorite, which one would you pick for that?
Speaker BSo can I do one that I'm not currently doing?
Speaker AYeah, go ahead.
Speaker BSparring is my least favorite event.
Speaker BI used to do sparring.
Speaker BThe only thing is my competitors grew and I didn't.
Speaker BSo.
Speaker AI think that's your dad's fault.
Speaker AI don't think that's your mom's fault.
Speaker AI think that's your dad's fault.
Speaker ASo, yeah, maybe, maybe that growing, it's still coming.
Speaker AIt's coming and then you'll get the legs and you can be able to whack them in the head and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker ADo you.
Speaker ADo you do combat sparring or is that something for later on too?
Speaker BSo I don't do it currently for these like, like these current tournaments.
Speaker BI am going to do combat sparring at our Level Up Invit tournament just to check that.
Speaker AThat's coming right up, isn't it?
Speaker AAfter worlds?
Speaker BYes, it's August 16th at the Kalahari.
Speaker AYeah, the Kalahari.
Speaker AYeah, That's a good one.
Speaker AYou get to go tournament and water park all together.
Speaker ACan't go wrong with that.
Speaker AWell, hey, ma' am, what does it mean to you to be an athlete that goes beyond the belt?
Speaker BI think what it means to me is beyond the belt could mean like on the mats and off the mats.
Speaker BLike if you're training, you're working really hard, it doesn't mean that you are not able to when you're off the mats.
Speaker BSo like still be a good student, a good friend, good family member, all that stuff.
Speaker AI love that.
Speaker AYeah, I love that you added in there.
Speaker AA good friend and good family member.
Speaker AYou know, I think a lot of times we, our instructors talk to us about making sure that we're good at school, good at home, and we want to make sure that, that, you know, our family, those are the people we should be, you know, really treating well.
Speaker AAnd sometimes I don't know about you, but those are the ones that have hard time treating well sometimes, you know, brothers and sisters are rough.
Speaker BYes, sir.
Speaker AYou got a brother, right?
Speaker BI have two.
Speaker BA younger brother and an older brother.
Speaker AOh, so you're a middle, right?
Speaker AIn the middle.
Speaker AThose are the best kids.
Speaker AThe best kids are middle kids.
Speaker AWell, ma' am, we are really thankful for your time today and good luck with your competition at World Championships this year.
Speaker AIt's going to be awesome to see out there competing hard and then maybe people can come visit you up at the Level Up Invitational.
Speaker AThat'd be awesome.
Speaker BAwesome.
Speaker BThank you so much, sir.
Speaker BI'm really, I really appreciate being on here for athlete of the Week.
Speaker AThanks so much.
Speaker AWe love it.
Speaker AI don't know about you, but I'm excited to see some level up demo team competition in the future.
Speaker AThey are rocking up there.
Speaker ASo thank you for Ms.
Speaker AAmo's time today.
Speaker AIt was great to have another awesome athlete on.
Speaker AWe've had a variety of ages ranks different parts of the country.
Speaker AIt's so great across the globe.
Speaker AActually, speaking of across the globe, we have the Songam cup at World Championships.
Speaker AThis is the international team competition that'll be coming up.
Speaker AYou can find out more about that on the atamartialarts.com website for the schedule for World Championships.
Speaker AThey're going to have the finals for that during the kickoff party.
Speaker AYou do not want to miss that event.
Speaker AIt's going to be so much fun.
Speaker AAmazing things you'll get to see there.
Speaker AAnd we want to, you know, make sure that we're inviting everyone to join us.
Speaker AOn July 12th, we're gonna have another live episode on YouTube and Facebook live as well.
Speaker ASo don't miss out on that until next time.
Speaker AYou guys better be training out there.
Speaker ATOC is coming, Worlds is coming.
Speaker AGet out there, take some action.
