Let's name a few things that we used to stress about being liked by people that we didn't even like saying yes just to avoid guilt wearing the right thing.

Even when it didn't feel like us responding to every text, email, or you got a minute with urgency, keeping our feelings bottled up so no one was uncomfortable.

I've always been the responsible one, the dependable one.

Speaker A

Not because I was trying to be a people pleaser, but because I genuinely cared that somewhere along the way that turned into doing too much, explaining too much, and carrying the weight that wasn't mine to hold.

I used to say yes to things that I didn't even want to do just to avoid the awkwardness of saying no.

Now, if I don't want to go to lunch, then I'm not going.

No guilt, no explanation.

There's a different kind of freedom that comes with midlife, when you stop managing perceptions and you start honoring your peace.

Now don't get me wrong.

I'm not saying walk around unapproachable and unavailable like nobody matters.

Being unbothered doesn't mean being cold.

Speaker A

It means choosing what's worth your time, your peace, and your voice.

Here's what it does me.

You can hold a boundary without holding a grudge.

Speaker A

You can release control and trust that what's meant for you won't miss you.

You can say no with kindness and without apology.

Speaker A

You don't stop caring.

You just stop over caring about things that don't deserve the front row in your life.

Sometimes they creep back in with a calendar invite or a side eye or a little guilt trip from someone who means well.

So let's get into how to actually practice the art of caring less without losing your kindness or without carrying guilt.

Want to know how to get unbothered?

Okay.

Number one, check your why.

When you find yourself stressed or offended, then ask, why do I care?

If the answer is about proving, pleasing or performing, then you already know what to do.

Set your standards, not your explanations.

You don't owe everyone access or clarity.

Speaker A

No is a boundary I'm not available for.

Speaker A

That is a boundary.

I'm protecting.

My peace is a boundary.

Number three, detach from outcomes.

Speaker A

You can do your best, show up well, speak honestly, and still let go of how others receive it.

Not everything needs to be fixed.

Smooth or soft.

Sometimes it just is.

And four, celebrate yourself every time.

Speaker A

You don't over explain, overthink, or over function.

Then celebrate it.

You're building a new rhythm, one that centers you.
