Welcome to the Peak Revival Podcast.
Speaker:My name is Vesna.
Speaker:Today I'm gonna talk about the strong woman pattern
Speaker:things that I see all the time in my clients,
Speaker:and I will be the first one to put my hand up at.
Speaker:When I was putting this together, I was really
Speaker:using things that I had seen through my own
Speaker:process and own awareness.
Speaker:Um, into this podcast.
Speaker:So if you identify as a strong woman, and if people
Speaker:have said to you, you're a really strong woman, right?
Speaker:I really want you to listen to this podcast.
Speaker:So being a strong woman, there's nothing wrong
Speaker:with that, but there can be a pattern that
Speaker:leads you to feeling very overstretched and exhausted.
Speaker:And so something that you may be very proud
Speaker:of is actually the very thing that's draining you
Speaker:when we don't have a lot of awareness around our patterns.
Speaker:So I'm gonna talk about the telltale signs
Speaker:of a strong woman.
Speaker:And I first wanna say is like, I'm not pointing the finger.
Speaker:This is definitely something that, like I said, as I was
Speaker:putting this podcast together, I was really bringing up some
Speaker:of my examples that I had seen in myself over the years.
Speaker:'cause I've definitely identified as a strong woman.
Speaker:Often people say to me, she's a really strong
Speaker:woman, you know, and so we can identify with that,
Speaker:and it carries a whole bunch of baggage with it.
Speaker:Yes, it carries a lot of strength, but it does carry
Speaker:on the flip side some baggage, and I want you to be really
Speaker:aware of it because that can actually hold you back
Speaker:from the next level, and that can really be draining
Speaker:you, and it doesn't need to.
Speaker:You can have that strength without having
Speaker:the baggage with it.
Speaker:So the first one is the compartmentalizing
Speaker:emotions, right?
Speaker:So something comes up, something goes wrong,
Speaker:and you're like, I don't have time for this today.
Speaker:I'm gonna park that for later.
Speaker:So almost compartmentalizing your emotions.
Speaker:So yes, there's stress here, we can't look at that today.
Speaker:We'll deal with that another time.
Speaker:And so you're pushing your emotions to the curb and all
Speaker:for the sake of productivity to get more done right.
Speaker:And that can look good in the moment,
Speaker:but we end up making that a pattern
Speaker:That becomes a strategy, you know, you can catch yourself.
Speaker:I've caught myself thinking before, I can't.
Speaker:Okay, not today.
Speaker:I can't do this today and literally use the words, how
Speaker:can I compartmentalize this?
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:It's crazy.
Speaker:So we can start to use it as a strategy and therefore never
Speaker:really process our emotions.
Speaker:And the thing with emotions is that the longer they
Speaker:sit there, the more they bubble under the surface
Speaker:creating, a lot more other emotions and being quite
Speaker:draining and disruptive.
Speaker:So if you've ever found yourself, Dealing with lots
Speaker:of, like things are happening around you and you're like,
Speaker:I can't deal with that today.
Speaker:but if you are finding yourself saying that a
Speaker:lot, then there's something to be aware of there.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:And as I'm going through these, I just want you
Speaker:to be aware, because unless you're aware,
Speaker:you can't address it.
Speaker:And it was through my process, and I'm gonna
Speaker:share some stories that the awareness was enough for
Speaker:me to change this pattern.
Speaker:The next one is the, " I'll just do it myself" reflex.
Speaker:So you end up taking on a lot more because it's
Speaker:like, it's just easier.
Speaker:It's quicker for you to do it.
Speaker:You don't escalate issues, you don't push back.
Speaker:You don't ask for support and you don't ask for help.
Speaker:When was the last time you asked for help?
Speaker:This is a really big red flag.
Speaker:I see this in my clients.
Speaker:They don't ask for help.
Speaker:Even when they enroll help of mentors or other people, they
Speaker:end up leading that as well.
Speaker:Okay?
Speaker:So if you've signed up with a coach or a mentor
Speaker:or something like that, you'll find yourself in that
Speaker:position where you are even leading that interaction
Speaker:because that's what you're accustomed to doing, right?
Speaker:So that asking for support, asking for help, and what
Speaker:ends up happening is that you quietly take responsibility
Speaker:again for everything.
Speaker:Okay?
Speaker:It's a lot of burden and a lot of pressure.
Speaker:The third one is not leveraging support
Speaker:even when it exists.
Speaker:So maybe you're not leveraging your team
Speaker:as much as you should.
Speaker:You're still doing too much work that you know you
Speaker:shouldn't be doing, right?
Speaker:Maybe you've invested in help, like I talked
Speaker:before, but you are the one leading the changes, right?
Speaker:You're the one leading, maybe even the structure,
Speaker:not so much the change.
Speaker:'cause obviously you need to lead the change, but
Speaker:the structure of it, right?
Speaker:You're still doing most of the work.
Speaker:You're across.
Speaker:Everything, and you are too involved in everything, right?
Speaker:So there's almost this feeling that if I'm not
Speaker:in it, then that's being irresponsible, okay?
Speaker:But then you are too heavily invested in so
Speaker:many different things.
Speaker:Number four, the belief that it won't happen or
Speaker:it won't work without you.
Speaker:This was a big one that I had, right?
Speaker:And just to quickly share this story that I have a program.
Speaker:Bye-bye Burnout, if you haven't heard of it already.
Speaker:I dunno how, but I have a program called Byebye
Speaker:Burnout, and when I.
Speaker:Created that program many years ago, like a coach had
Speaker:said to me, because I end up having the same conversations
Speaker:with clients, right?
Speaker:So she said, if you just record all those key pieces,
Speaker:right, what you talk about, hormones, gut stress, mindset,
Speaker:et cetera, if you record those and put it into the program
Speaker:and sell it as a program.
Speaker:And I was like, that is never going to work, right?
Speaker:I have to be like, I have to work with them one-on-one.
Speaker:It's not gonna work without me.
Speaker:Obviously, I didn't realize that at the time that that
Speaker:was actually my biggest block.
Speaker:I thought I was important part of the process, but
Speaker:I did take her advice.
Speaker:I did put it together in a program with lots of
Speaker:hesitation thinking this is never going to work.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:And sure enough, I mean, I sold a few places in that
Speaker:program, women got great results, but I was like,
Speaker:nah, I don't wanna do that.
Speaker:Like it has to be one-on-one.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:And then years later, I actually left it parked
Speaker:on the side, and a couple of years later I picked
Speaker:it up and I thought, oh, I'm gonna try this again.
Speaker:And I mean the rest is just history, right?
Speaker:Because the results were so much more than what you would
Speaker:get from a one-on-one work.
Speaker:And the reason being is that the power of a community, the
Speaker:power of momentum, the power of co, that education pieces
Speaker:as you're going through, right, was everything.
Speaker:Now, if I.
Speaker:Was still not seeing my patterns that, Hey,
Speaker:I'm, I think that it's all about me, right?
Speaker:I need to be involved in all of this, when actually
Speaker:that was the barrier.
Speaker:And if I didn't have that awareness, I wouldn't
Speaker:be at the next level where I am today, right?
Speaker:That would've really held me back, kept me exhausted, and
Speaker:I probably would've just quit.
Speaker:So the awareness is really important.
Speaker:So for me, I didn't think things would work without me.
Speaker:I mean, obviously it was my work infused
Speaker:in this program, but.
Speaker:It can work without you.
Speaker:You do have to oversee it and things like that, but
Speaker:it can work without you.
Speaker:So where are you maybe holding onto that belief that, you
Speaker:know, you can't fully step back, you've gotta take
Speaker:responsibility for everything.
Speaker:Your, your, presence is your responsibility, where is that
Speaker:showing up in your business and your personal life and
Speaker:your family life, wherever.
Speaker:The fifth one is minimizing your symptoms.
Speaker:This is really a big one that I see in high
Speaker:performing women, right?
Speaker:They're like, I'm okay.
Speaker:It's not that bad.
Speaker:I'm not that tired.
Speaker:I'm not that exhausted.
Speaker:I can just push through.
Speaker:Once I get through this phase, then it'll be okay.
Speaker:Then I can address all that stuff.
Speaker:But I've gotta just keep going, just keep going.
Speaker:Well, I can keep going.
Speaker:So it's minimizing your symptoms, your emotions,
Speaker:where you're at, right, minimizing you, right?
Speaker:And what you need, your needs that you need right now.
Speaker:and that's a really big red flag.
Speaker:So if you found yourself putting things
Speaker:off for yourself.
Speaker:And not paying attention to how you're feeling or
Speaker:how you're showing up, or what's happening in your
Speaker:body or in your life.
Speaker:Then you're minimizing yourself.
Speaker:then there's others which are not maybe as common, but
Speaker:definitely what I see, right, is that you're carrying the
Speaker:emotional load, is that you don't talk about things much.
Speaker:You process things internally.
Speaker:You carry your emotions to yourself because you don't
Speaker:wanna burden anyone, right?
Speaker:You just gotta get on with it, right?
Speaker:You're the strong one.
Speaker:You get on with it.
Speaker:and that becomes a barrier, right?
Speaker:Because it means that you never have someone,
Speaker:you never allow yourself, someone to lean on.
Speaker:You never allow yourself to be vulnerable.
Speaker:You never allow yourself to have.
Speaker:A moment of, can't handle this right now.
Speaker:So it's not even a moment of weakness, but
Speaker:a moment of humanity.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:because you're the strong one.
Speaker:Because you identify with the strong one.
Speaker:Okay?
Speaker:And so that carrying that emotional load
Speaker:is extremely draining.
Speaker:The other patterns I see is struggling to
Speaker:relinquish control.
Speaker:So.
Speaker:Letting go, letting things go, letting things happen.
Speaker:So it's not that you are controlling, it's that it
Speaker:just feels safer when you are trying to control things.
Speaker:It gives you that kind of level of certainty and
Speaker:that certainty feels like it's, uh, regulating right?
Speaker:It's keeping you safe when actually it's just adding
Speaker:a whole lot more stress.
Speaker:And the other one that I see is you pride yourself on
Speaker:being able to push through.
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:It's almost like you see that.
Speaker:Endurance as a strength and that never stopping
Speaker:and never quitting.
Speaker:But at what cost?
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:At what cost is that important for you?
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:So, so those are the traits that I see in my
Speaker:high performing clients.
Speaker:I've brought you stories about myself.
Speaker:I've definitely, as I was, like I said, I was
Speaker:putting this together.
Speaker:I was like.
Speaker:This is a good one because I know this is gonna resonate
Speaker:with a lot of women.
Speaker:'cause it really resonated with me.
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:There was really key things that I found through my
Speaker:journey in this awareness over the years, and I'm
Speaker:still finding it now.
Speaker:I'm still finding that maybe I'm not using my
Speaker:team in the best way.
Speaker:So I've still got all my fingers in the pies and
Speaker:therefore I'm just carrying way too much workload.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:Working with a coach or a mentor or.
Speaker:You know, business coach, I find myself in those
Speaker:situations where I'm still having to self lead.
Speaker:Okay.
Speaker:And provide the structure.
Speaker:So these are new awarenesses that I've
Speaker:had, which is like, hmm.
Speaker:That's the same as the stuff that I had before.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:And it's just, I think it's really good because
Speaker:even though you're probably a self-directed
Speaker:person, you're already in a leadership capacity.
Speaker:But sometimes it's just really nice to not have
Speaker:to lead everything.
Speaker:Right to take that off your shoulders and to be guided
Speaker:by somebody else and to be able to let go of control
Speaker:and relinquish control to allow that to happen.
Speaker:So if you recognize these, you know, patterns in yourself,
Speaker:one of the first things I wanna be really clear about
Speaker:is that it's not a flaw, okay?
Speaker:It's definitely not a flaw.
Speaker:It's not something that you're doing wrong.
Speaker:It's something that you've adapted to,
Speaker:that once served you.
Speaker:Like life required you to step up in moments, and you
Speaker:stepped up and you became stronger and stronger, and
Speaker:now you identify with that.
Speaker:But it's the identification with that, that
Speaker:becomes the baggage and becomes the barrier.
Speaker:So really strength is not about carrying everything,
Speaker:pushing through at all costs or compartmentalizing
Speaker:your emotions.
Speaker:Real strength is about awareness and I think
Speaker:vulnerability as well, right?
Speaker:I think just being able to be really authentic and not
Speaker:have to be always a strong one because you're not, right.
Speaker:You're just hiding it.
Speaker:I mean, that's what I see myself.
Speaker:You're just hiding it.
Speaker:You're getting on with it.
Speaker:You're not acknowledging it, you're not aware of it.
Speaker:until your hand is forced, right, until a crisis
Speaker:happens or an illness happens, or your relationship
Speaker:breaks down, or something happens in your business
Speaker:and something of a crisis where you step back and go,
Speaker:yeah, I've been doing this.
Speaker:I haven't been doing this the right way.
Speaker:all I want you to do from this podcast is I don't
Speaker:want you to change anything.
Speaker:I don't want you to fix anything.
Speaker:I don't want you to optimize anything.
Speaker:I just want you to start noticing how that shows up
Speaker:in your life and to be really aware of your patterns.
Speaker:do you self-identify as a strong woman?
Speaker:Do people say to you, you're a strong woman?
Speaker:Do women say to you or other people say to you,
Speaker:God, you really have a lot on your plate.
Speaker:You really handle a lot.
Speaker:You know, these are the kind of telltale signs that I
Speaker:hear from my clients, so just notice it is the first stage
Speaker:to making those changes.
Speaker:I'd love to hear your comments below.
Speaker:If you see the ability to leave comments on YouTube,
Speaker:then leave your comment like, which of those telltale signs
Speaker:do you really identify with?
Speaker:Let me know.
