Speaker:I want, like, before we get
Speaker:into this, I want to know
Speaker:about you and why, why you
Speaker:ended up in this industry.
Speaker:And then I'll probably,
Speaker:the follow up question
Speaker:I'll have is like, how
Speaker:do you know each other?
Speaker:Well, I'm Jazz or
Speaker:Jasmine, and I've been
Speaker:an electrician for
Speaker:nine years now, so.
Speaker:Bye
Speaker:all over the trade.
Speaker:I've worked in domestic,
Speaker:civil and commercial.
Speaker:, started out in commercial
Speaker:so I quite was quite lucky
Speaker:with access to toilets
Speaker:and that sort of thing.
Speaker:But, , as I've sort of
Speaker:grown and gotten a bit
Speaker:older and problems are
Speaker:arising within being a
Speaker:female, , I've started
Speaker:to notice it's probably
Speaker:a, a, lot tougher working
Speaker:in domestic or in the
Speaker:civil line of work.
Speaker:, when I worked in civil
Speaker:electrical, we didn't
Speaker:have access to any kind
Speaker:of toilets or hygiene
Speaker:or anything like that.
Speaker:You're just working in
Speaker:the middle of paddocks.
Speaker:So there was a lot of
Speaker:going to the toilet behind
Speaker:the truck and sort of
Speaker:stopping on the side of
Speaker:the road along the way.
Speaker:And then, yeah, when you
Speaker:get your period, it's
Speaker:pretty shit actually to be
Speaker:in that sort of situation.
Speaker:But, the reason I sort of.
Speaker:Um, I have two female
Speaker:apprentices who work under
Speaker:me, and we were noticing
Speaker:a bit of an issue with
Speaker:them leaving work and
Speaker:having to have the boys
Speaker:take them to the nearest
Speaker:toilet or to shopping,
Speaker:anywhere where they
Speaker:could buy sanitary items.
Speaker:And so we sort of had
Speaker:a bit of a discussion
Speaker:on how we could improve
Speaker:that and make it better.
Speaker:So I guess it was more
Speaker:time efficient where they
Speaker:weren't leaving site.
Speaker:And that's where we
Speaker:came up with providing
Speaker:a pack within the
Speaker:vans in our company.
Speaker:so this was something that
Speaker:you actually essentially
Speaker:had gone through yourself.
Speaker:Identify, it took you
Speaker:to have an apprentice
Speaker:to identify the problem?
Speaker:Is that correct?
Speaker:so I've only had a
Speaker:female apprentice
Speaker:for three years now.
Speaker:And so that's what
Speaker:six years of working
Speaker:in the trade before I
Speaker:noticed it was an issue.
Speaker:And I think the same
Speaker:for Logan as well.
Speaker:She.
Speaker:Went through most of her
Speaker:trade without realising
Speaker:it, and then I'll let
Speaker:her speak for herself,
Speaker:I'm Logan and I work now
Speaker:in an industrial company,
Speaker:but I started my trade in
Speaker:the early In the domestic
Speaker:world, sort of being the
Speaker:first female on a lot
Speaker:of job sites, the first
Speaker:female at the company,
Speaker:they did three weeks work
Speaker:experience because they're
Speaker:a bit afraid to put me on.
Speaker:They didn't know how
Speaker:I was going to fit
Speaker:in and everything.
Speaker:And then when I moved
Speaker:across to the industrial
Speaker:company I'm with,
Speaker:because we got bought
Speaker:out same thing again,
Speaker:my boss pulled all the
Speaker:blokes in for a meeting.
Speaker:You guys need to
Speaker:pull your head in.
Speaker:You can't be swearing.
Speaker:Can't be doing this.
Speaker:I thought it was a bit
Speaker:unfair because it makes
Speaker:a stand out a fair bit
Speaker:more if you're trying to
Speaker:change a whole culture
Speaker:just for one person.
Speaker:And in the toilet
Speaker:sense , yeah, lack
Speaker:of access everywhere.
Speaker:Cause yeah, there
Speaker:are new builds where.
Speaker:the torts not even put
Speaker:in yet, and then you
Speaker:have to drive to the
Speaker:shop, or we did a lot
Speaker:of farm work when I was
Speaker:in the domestic world.
Speaker:And same thing, you'd
Speaker:have to be like, I'm going
Speaker:behind the car, don't look.
Speaker:And then yeah, being on an
Speaker:industrial site, like, We
Speaker:have access to portaloos
Speaker:but they're horrendous.
Speaker:They don't have toilet
Speaker:paper or they don't
Speaker:have water or they've
Speaker:never been cleaned or
Speaker:like that disgusting you
Speaker:can't even sit on them.
Speaker:And the other side of that
Speaker:is we are normally in the
Speaker:middle of nowhere ages away
Speaker:from shops so don't know
Speaker:we get a lot of emergencies
Speaker:and I don't have a regular
Speaker:period so I have surprises
Speaker:a lot probably a lot more
Speaker:than other girls which
Speaker:sucks and I found myself
Speaker:In a lot of situations
Speaker:where I've had to just
Speaker:bleed into my pants, which
Speaker:is really uncomfortable
Speaker:and embarrassing, but
Speaker:that was my situation.
Speaker:So I knew it was a problem,
Speaker:but because we're in the
Speaker:man's world, we feel like
Speaker:we have to just, Suck
Speaker:it up and get on with it
Speaker:and don't cause a scene
Speaker:and don't tell boys about
Speaker:this problem because how
Speaker:embarrassing, but yeah, now
Speaker:having apprentices under
Speaker:us and realizing, hang
Speaker:on, jazz and I can be the
Speaker:change that other women
Speaker:don't have to go through
Speaker:this awkward situation.
Speaker:Cause it's a big
Speaker:toll on your mental
Speaker:wellbeing and it's.
Speaker:It's one of those things
Speaker:that we have to carry a
Speaker:bit extra than men, and the
Speaker:other side of it, we're a
Speaker:novelty as it is, so, we
Speaker:get stopped in the street
Speaker:a lot more, we get talked
Speaker:to on job sites a lot
Speaker:more, and then we have to
Speaker:carry the emergency periods
Speaker:or the lack of access,
Speaker:and where am I going to
Speaker:go to the toilet for the
Speaker:day, and I find that I'm
Speaker:dehydrating myself on Most
Speaker:job sites because I'm too
Speaker:embarrassed to have to
Speaker:ask where the toilet is
Speaker:or Feel like I'm coming
Speaker:back in half now because
Speaker:I've got to walk down to
Speaker:the toilet because you
Speaker:just feel like a problem
Speaker:lost for words, a hard to
Speaker:comment on something that
Speaker:we just have no idea about.
Speaker:I can't relate
Speaker:whatsoever to that.
Speaker:And it's something that I
Speaker:sit here now going like,
Speaker:oh, fuck, like, I've
Speaker:never even thought about
Speaker:it to be honest with you.
Speaker:, you made a comment there
Speaker:where you said that you're
Speaker:a novelty on the project
Speaker:and I don't want to really
Speaker:get too much stuck into
Speaker:the conversation about
Speaker:females in the trade.
Speaker:But do you kind of get a
Speaker:little bit over the fact
Speaker:that you get referred to
Speaker:as a, say, a female tradie
Speaker:when white paint used
Speaker:to be called a tradie?
Speaker:Yeah, yeah 100 percent
Speaker:Especially the domestic
Speaker:world and jazz gets this
Speaker:now like as soon as you
Speaker:walk in the door They're
Speaker:like, oh you're a girl
Speaker:or it's a girl like and
Speaker:you're like, hang on.
Speaker:Yeah, you're a lady
Speaker:or something It's
Speaker:like oh, yeah Cool.
Speaker:Like, I don't know where
Speaker:to take this conversation
Speaker:now because you have to
Speaker:go through like 50 times
Speaker:a day because you're in
Speaker:and out of houses and it's
Speaker:like by the end of the
Speaker:day, like, oh my gosh.
Speaker:And I was an
Speaker:apprentice too.
Speaker:So, my tradesman was
Speaker:getting annoyed because
Speaker:they were trying to talk
Speaker:to me and he wants me to
Speaker:go get tools and run back
Speaker:and forth from the van
Speaker:and do the apprentice job.
Speaker:But you always try and give
Speaker:the customer experience.
Speaker:So I felt the need to
Speaker:sit there and chat.
Speaker:And yeah, it's a hard line.
Speaker:Logan, how long have you
Speaker:been in the trade for?
Speaker:six, seven years.
Speaker:Six or six or seven
Speaker:years and ja your,
Speaker:your nine years.
Speaker:Yeah, just past
Speaker:nine years now.
Speaker:Two weeks ago.
Speaker:And did you work together
Speaker:No, it's a pretty
Speaker:funny story.
Speaker:I I used to be like in
Speaker:a gym and everything and
Speaker:then I've noticed myself
Speaker:getting quite unfit.
Speaker:After joining
Speaker:Interdomestic, you
Speaker:sort of don't make
Speaker:time for yourself.
Speaker:And noticed, um, Logan,
Speaker:she was quite fit and I
Speaker:knew who she was, but we
Speaker:didn't know each other.
Speaker:And so I just out of the
Speaker:blue messaged her one
Speaker:day and said, Oh, would
Speaker:you ever be interested in
Speaker:going for a run with me?
Speaker:And we were like,
Speaker:yeah, we'll do it
Speaker:every Wednesday.
Speaker:And we never went for
Speaker:a run, but we ended up
Speaker:organizing a catch up To
Speaker:talk about the Go Company
Speaker:and about a month later,
Speaker:we made the business
Speaker:since we started
Speaker:the business and we
Speaker:only went for our
Speaker:first run last week.
Speaker:so jazz you're nine
Speaker:years, Logan, you're
Speaker:six to seven years,
Speaker:like I've been in the
Speaker:industry for 20 years now.
Speaker:Um,
Speaker:and we've had Alina
Speaker:working for us for two
Speaker:or three years now.
Speaker:And.
Speaker:I'm going to put my hand
Speaker:up the first few months
Speaker:that Helena was on board.
Speaker:I kept having to ask her to
Speaker:give me constant feedback
Speaker:about how I talk to her.
Speaker:And is that the
Speaker:right thing to say?
Speaker:Cause I was that person
Speaker:that says, Oh, my female
Speaker:apprentice, or, you know,
Speaker:we've got a girl working
Speaker:for us now and now, as
Speaker:of, I guess, Have educated
Speaker:myself and I guess talk
Speaker:to more women in the
Speaker:trade about how they want
Speaker:to be perceived and all
Speaker:of those kinds of things
Speaker:and just really trying to
Speaker:normalize it and actually
Speaker:not make a big fucking
Speaker:deal about it because
Speaker:how it actually shouldn't
Speaker:matter what gender you are.
Speaker:Are you a good person
Speaker:and do you do a good job?
Speaker:Really, that's what we
Speaker:should be looking at.
Speaker:And it shouldn't
Speaker:matter whether you're
Speaker:a male or a female.
Speaker:or anything
Speaker:else really?
Speaker:or anything else, whatever
Speaker:gender, that doesn't
Speaker:really matter, whatever
Speaker:gender, doesn't matter.
Speaker:But our industry is so
Speaker:tailored towards men.
Speaker:Because it's been so male
Speaker:dominated for so long,
Speaker:which is when I, listened
Speaker:back to the future builder
Speaker:stuff the other day, I was
Speaker:getting goosebumps thinking
Speaker:about the opportunities
Speaker:that we have, or that
Speaker:you have right now in the
Speaker:industry to make such a
Speaker:massive change, because
Speaker:hearing your stories
Speaker:before about feeling guilty
Speaker:about going to the toilet
Speaker:and feeling like you're
Speaker:putting an extra burden
Speaker:onto your employees about,
Speaker:Going to the bathroom
Speaker:because we don't have the
Speaker:correct facilities in here.
Speaker:Like I think barriers that
Speaker:you're going to remove
Speaker:by providing these really
Speaker:simple facilities for
Speaker:women on site, I think is
Speaker:going to open up the door
Speaker:for so many more people.
Speaker:And I think it's amazing.
Speaker:So firstly, congratulations
Speaker:to both of you to breaking
Speaker:through that door and
Speaker:actually doing a trade
Speaker:in the first place,
Speaker:but also realizing that
Speaker:this is a massive issue.
Speaker:Like you guys should be
Speaker:so proud of yourself.
Speaker:Yeah, we definitely are,

Speaker:packs because men are on

Speaker:to have plans to expand

Speaker:So our trademark people
Speaker:have reached out to them
Speaker:and trying to get a signed
Speaker:thing saying that we're
Speaker:not the same and we can
Speaker:have the trademark and
Speaker:some things we have been
Speaker:trademarked for, but that
Speaker:was such a long process
Speaker:and very costly and put
Speaker:us behind a fair bit.
Speaker:have you seen like a
Speaker:utility patent on the sense
Speaker:of like, like something for
Speaker:like a bag that holds these
Speaker:accessories the worksites?
Speaker:I think there was a, there
Speaker:was a little cross hair in
Speaker:that because we can't, we
Speaker:could potentially patent
Speaker:it for the exact layout
Speaker:that it is, but we can't
Speaker:patent the pattern of
Speaker:the pack because there's
Speaker:so many sanitary packs
Speaker:out there that we would,
Speaker:would be fighting for
Speaker:years against, I reckon
Speaker:and the manufacturing
Speaker:company who actually
Speaker:makes these bags it is a
Speaker:custom design, but it's
Speaker:tailored off another one.
Speaker:So that would be a
Speaker:long process, I reckon.
Speaker:I was to give any advice
Speaker:to you guys moving forward,
Speaker:I mean, I understand a
Speaker:patent is one thing and
Speaker:it's pretty like the
Speaker:concept I would say is,
Speaker:is, is pretty accessible.
Speaker:There's not massive
Speaker:boundaries for someone
Speaker:else to start doing this.
Speaker:I think what you should
Speaker:be doing is really
Speaker:focusing on your brand.
Speaker:Because if you focus
Speaker:on your brand and you
Speaker:want to make sure when
Speaker:people think about
Speaker:women's, packs on site.
Speaker:it needs to be
Speaker:the go brand.
Speaker:and I love the idea of like
Speaker:getting little stickers
Speaker:on the portal is saying
Speaker:go equipped or something,
Speaker:or this site's go friendly
Speaker:or whatever, like some
Speaker:kind of thing that feeds
Speaker:into your brand that
Speaker:people can recognize it
Speaker:and go, Oh, you're right.
Speaker:like, I'm empowered to go
Speaker:onto this website because
Speaker:it's supported by go.
Speaker:Like, those are the kind
Speaker:of things that I'd probably
Speaker:focus on now, like the
Speaker:patent is one thing, but
Speaker:it's one of those ironic
Speaker:things where, you know,
Speaker:Matt and I find people
Speaker:coming into our space all
Speaker:the time in building high
Speaker:performance homes, but
Speaker:isn't that what we want?
Speaker:And you're probably in
Speaker:the same kind of thing,
Speaker:like, isn't, don't we
Speaker:want to encourage more?
Speaker:Things like this in our
Speaker:industry to bring more
Speaker:women into our trade.
Speaker:So I think for you guys,
Speaker:it's all about focusing
Speaker:on that brand and just
Speaker:smashing the brand out
Speaker:and going on as many
Speaker:podcasts as you possibly
Speaker:can and knocking on
Speaker:every single fucking
Speaker:door until every worksite
Speaker:has a go pack on it.
Speaker:Yeah, yeah,
Speaker:our hardest battle right
Speaker:now is time because we
Speaker:are both still working
Speaker:full time for other
Speaker:employees and we work
Speaker:such weird hours that, um,
Speaker:Usually out of hours, the
Speaker:businesses aren't there.
Speaker:So at the moment we're
Speaker:simply relying on word of
Speaker:mouth and cold emailing.
Speaker:And we have, um, just
Speaker:recently come up with the
Speaker:idea to send our flyers
Speaker:to a heap of businesses
Speaker:in the mail because we're
Speaker:finding emailing isn't as.
Speaker:It's as strong as what
Speaker:it used to be but people
Speaker:still read mail, so if
Speaker:they get the flyer, it's
Speaker:in their hand, it's in
Speaker:their face, they've got
Speaker:no choice but to read it.
Speaker:It's not like a long letter
Speaker:where they have to read
Speaker:a heap of information
Speaker:about us, it's this is
Speaker:the product, this is what
Speaker:it's for, helping your
Speaker:women, kind of thing.
Speaker:It's a real smack in the
Speaker:face, I think, so hopefully
Speaker:that gets us somewhere,
Speaker:This is a shout out
Speaker:to any business owner

Speaker:workers, if your female
Speaker:have this problem,
Speaker:like it's everywhere.
Speaker:And I'm assuming it's
Speaker:as I'm assuming, and I
Speaker:might be speaking out
Speaker:here a little bit, the
Speaker:sense of like, every
Speaker:female has already gone
Speaker:through this issue where
Speaker:they don't have a tampon
Speaker:or a pad, need one.

Speaker:that says they haven't
Speaker:been in that sort of
Speaker:situation is lying.
