This week at wwdc, Apple made a few updates that are worth a mention to you as a podcaster, or if you're just a nerd like me who enjoys fiddling with playback settings while muttering finally under your breath.

So what's new?

Well, first of all, Apple Podcasts is now finally catching up with the cool kids.

They're rolling out a new enhanced dialogue feature, but basically that amplifies voices in your episodes so listeners can actually hear what you or your guests are saying over that dramatic music or noisy background that overzealous producers like me love to throw on in the back end.

Overcast and Pocketcast users will be familiar with this.

It's kind of been their thing for years.

Next up, variable playback speeds.

Now, instead of just the usual 1x or 1.5x, you can choose anything between 0.5.x and 3.x.

And here's the best bit you can set a preferred speed for each individual show.

Oh, remember the browse button in Apple Podcasts?

Yeah, that's gone.

It's now just called New.

Bit of a sexy rebrand.

And that's where you'll now discover the best of what's new and popular.

According to their own words, which may or may not be what Apple wants you to think is popular.

Take that as you will, but going on their track record, Stephen Bartlett's probably going to be at number one.

AirPods are getting studio quality audio recording.

That means if your guest insists on chatting to you while walking the dog with their AirPods, it may now not sound completely like they're trapped in a bin being attacked by seagulls.
