Hello and welcome back to the Elevated Edit Podcast.

Speaker B

I'm going to tell you a story really quick and while this story might not directly relate to your season of life, I want you to still envision it and feel the feelings and see if there is something in your life right now that you can relate to this story.

Speaker B

So I want you to envision that you're standing in your kitchen and your toddler is happily stacking blocks at the table while you sip your coffee.

Speaker B

While it's standing still hot, your laptop is open.

Speaker B

But for the first time in forever, you're not drowning in emails or playing catch up.

Speaker B

Your calendar is organized, your to do list is clear, and your time is finally yours.

Speaker B

You glance at the clock.

Speaker B

It's 4:59pm and instead of scrambling to finish just one more thing, you close your laptop with ease.

Speaker B

No guilt, no stress.

Speaker B

Just done.

Speaker B

You scoop up your baby, you call for your toddler, and you step outside for an evening walk before dinner.

Speaker B

Something you never used to have time for.

Speaker B

The warm breeze brushes your face as your toddler giggles and their squishy little hand is in yours.

Speaker B

This is what you've always wanted.

Speaker B

Isn't it time for both your career and your family space to breathe, to enjoy them while they're little.

Speaker B

And it's finally happening.

Speaker B

Now, this might not be your reality right now.

Speaker B

Right now you might be spinning your wheels, you might be working hard, but it never actually feels like enough.

Speaker B

And the craziest part is, you might not even realize that there are some things that are actually keeping you stuck.

Speaker B

So today I'm breaking down three hidden things that might be stopping you from stepping into that version of your life.

Speaker B

The one where success feels simple.

Speaker B

And if you've been feeling frustrated or overwhelmed or like something just isn't quite clicking, this episode is going to change the way you see it all.

Speaker B

So let's get right into it.

Speaker B

Three things that might be keeping you stuck.

Speaker B

Number one, you're stuck in decision fatigue.

Speaker B

You're making a thousand tiny decisions every day without realizing how much energy it drains.

Speaker B

I always think of this as too many tabs for opening your brain and When I am in this season, for me, it feels like the minute I open my eyes, sometimes even before I open my eyes in the morning, I'm already having to make a hundred different decisions.

Speaker B

What should I eat?

Speaker B

What should I wear?

Speaker B

What should I do first today?

Speaker B

What am I gonna have to do at work?

Speaker B

Who do I need to call?

Speaker B

What bills do I need to pay?

Speaker B

It's just constant.

Speaker B

And this keeps you stuck because your brain burns energy on small things instead of making big moves.

Speaker B

And the truth is, the most successful people, they're not making more decisions, they're actually making fewer decisions.

Speaker B

And because they're making fewer decisions, they are making better decisions.

Speaker B

When I think of that, I always think of Steve Jobs.

Speaker B

And I am trying to Steve Jobs my closet currently with my color palette.

Speaker B

If you have not gotten your color analysis done, go hit up Kaylee Lambert at Kaylie Lambert Styling.

Speaker B

But I am trying to Steve Jobs my closet because I want to get ready every single day.

Speaker B

I want to show up as the best version of myself.

Speaker B

And right now, my closet is a little overwhelming for me.

Speaker B

And so I'm trying to Steve Jobs my closet.

Speaker B

So that is one less decision that I have to make in the day because I don't want me getting ready to be a detriment to me later on in the day.

Speaker B

You know, you're standing in front of your closet for 15 minutes and you use half of your decision making skills for the whole day.

Speaker B

And then later on, when I need to make high level decisions, I don't have any energy left.

Speaker B

And one solution here is to automate what you can.

Speaker B

Pre plan your meals, create a uniform for workday.

Speaker B

Steve Job, your closet.

Speaker B

Schedule your top priorities the night before, so there is no thinking in the morning.

Speaker B

Now, even if you cut down on decisions, there's still something else keeping you in a loop of busy work that feels productive but actually isn't.

Speaker B

And that takes you to number two.

Speaker B

You're confusing productive with effective.

Speaker B

You're constantly busy, but nothing actually moves forward.

Speaker B

Sound familiar?

Speaker B

This can look like you checked 15 things off your list, but none of them actually created momentum.

Speaker B

And I am raising my hand literally in real life, in real time right now because this was me for so long.

Speaker B

I was known as the girl with the legal pad.

Speaker B

I had the big legal pad.

Speaker B

I had 50 things on my to do list.

Speaker B

I was the first one in the office.

Speaker B

And I started at my list.

Speaker B

Check, check, check, check, check, check, check.

Speaker B

I actually scribbled.

Speaker B

I have, like, a very unique way of checking things off my List, no big deal.

Speaker B

And that was literally what I would do from about eight in the morning until five o'clock at night, is I would check things off of my list.

Speaker B

And unfortunately, even though I was checking things off of my list, I would get to the end of the day or the week or the month, or sadly, sometimes the end of the year, and I would look up and be like, what did I actually get done?

Speaker B

Like, I was busy, I was doing things, I was making stressful phone calls, and I am like in the weeds with these things that how are they even my responsibility?

Speaker B

But I wasn't actually making momentum.

Speaker B

And this can keep you stuck because busyness feels good.

Speaker B

Checking off small tasks can give you a dopamine hit.

Speaker B

I know when I first learned this, it kind of shocked me because when I think of dopamine hits, I think of like working out or, you know, going to an event or on the negative side, drinking or drugs or nicotine or whatever it is.

Speaker B

But checking things off of your list can give you a dopamine hit as well.

Speaker B

And the truth is, productivity isn't the goal, Effectiveness is.

Speaker B

And the highest performers, they aren't doing more, they're doing less but better.

Speaker B

And so one solution to help you get unstuck from this is to start your day with one clear needle moving task.

Speaker B

And if you get that one thing done, it can be a win.

Speaker B

One thing.

Speaker B

This might look like getting the laundry to completion.

Speaker B

And in the closet.

Speaker B

I can say this.

Speaker B

I think this is a safe space.

Speaker B

And my husband does not listen to the podcast.

Speaker B

Please don't let this be his first episode he listens to.

Speaker B

But I hope you can relate to this.

Speaker B

My husband is so good at starting the washing machine and that's where he leaves it.

Speaker B

And so it is a constant struggle in our house to get the laundry done to completion.

Speaker B

And so sometimes that is my one thing.

Speaker B

But it moves the needle.

Speaker B

It is a clear needle moving task.

Speaker B

And if I can sometimes get that one thing done, my day's a win.

Speaker B

I literally, I'm like, I one today.

Speaker B

Okay, so it can be something so small as long as it moves the needle.

Speaker B

But even if you know what to focus on, there's still one big thing that might be stopping you from actually moving forward.

Speaker B

And that takes us to number three.

Speaker B

You're stuck in waiting mode without realizing it.

Speaker B

You think you're preparing, you think you're researching or planning, but you're actually just waiting.

Speaker B

I talked about this a couple of episodes ago, where especially us high achieving women, we love to call ourselves perfectionist.

Speaker B

And I, I do too.

Speaker B

Because perfectionist sounds really good.

Speaker B

It sounds really high level.

Speaker B

Like she is a perfectionist.

Speaker B

She is going to execute at the highest level.

Speaker B

But really, perfectionism is us just putting a cute little pink bow with white polka dots on our procrastination box.

Speaker B

It is just us waiting for the right time.

Speaker B

The right time to start the business, to launch the offer, to call the friend, to hire help, to clean out the closet.

Speaker B

And this keeps you stuck.

Speaker B

Because perfectionism is just the disguise for readiness or procrastination or whatever it is.

Speaker B

And the truth is, clarity does not come from waiting.

Speaker B

It comes from action.

Speaker B

You can't think your way into confidence.

Speaker B

You have to do your way into confidence.

Speaker B

And so one solution to this is to take one uncomfortable action today.

Speaker B

Because imperfect action beats perfect hesitation every single time.

Speaker B

So to recap, three things that might be keeping you stuck.

Speaker B

Decision fatigue.

Speaker B

It's slowing you down.

Speaker B

You need to simplify and automate.

Speaker B

2.

Speaker B

Productivity isn't the goal.

Speaker B

Effectiveness is.

Speaker B

And 3.

Speaker B

Stop waiting.

Speaker B

Momentum comes from action.

Speaker B

If this hits home for you and you know you need better systems to free up your time, energy and focus, I have got something coming up for you and it is going to be so exciting.
