Speaker AHello and welcome back to the Elevated Edit Podcast.
Speaker BI'm going to tell you a story really quick and while this story might not directly relate to your season of life, I want you to still envision it and feel the feelings and see if there is something in your life right now that you can relate to this story.
Speaker BSo I want you to envision that you're standing in your kitchen and your toddler is happily stacking blocks at the table while you sip your coffee.
Speaker BWhile it's standing still hot, your laptop is open.
Speaker BBut for the first time in forever, you're not drowning in emails or playing catch up.
Speaker BYour calendar is organized, your to do list is clear, and your time is finally yours.
Speaker BYou glance at the clock.
Speaker BIt's 4:59pm and instead of scrambling to finish just one more thing, you close your laptop with ease.
Speaker BNo guilt, no stress.
Speaker BJust done.
Speaker BYou scoop up your baby, you call for your toddler, and you step outside for an evening walk before dinner.
Speaker BSomething you never used to have time for.
Speaker BThe warm breeze brushes your face as your toddler giggles and their squishy little hand is in yours.
Speaker BThis is what you've always wanted.
Speaker BIsn't it time for both your career and your family space to breathe, to enjoy them while they're little.
Speaker BAnd it's finally happening.
Speaker BNow, this might not be your reality right now.
Speaker BRight now you might be spinning your wheels, you might be working hard, but it never actually feels like enough.
Speaker BAnd the craziest part is, you might not even realize that there are some things that are actually keeping you stuck.
Speaker BSo today I'm breaking down three hidden things that might be stopping you from stepping into that version of your life.
Speaker BThe one where success feels simple.
Speaker BAnd if you've been feeling frustrated or overwhelmed or like something just isn't quite clicking, this episode is going to change the way you see it all.
Speaker BSo let's get right into it.
Speaker BThree things that might be keeping you stuck.
Speaker BNumber one, you're stuck in decision fatigue.
Speaker BYou're making a thousand tiny decisions every day without realizing how much energy it drains.
Speaker BI always think of this as too many tabs for opening your brain and When I am in this season, for me, it feels like the minute I open my eyes, sometimes even before I open my eyes in the morning, I'm already having to make a hundred different decisions.
Speaker BWhat should I eat?
Speaker BWhat should I wear?
Speaker BWhat should I do first today?
Speaker BWhat am I gonna have to do at work?
Speaker BWho do I need to call?
Speaker BWhat bills do I need to pay?
Speaker BIt's just constant.
Speaker BAnd this keeps you stuck because your brain burns energy on small things instead of making big moves.
Speaker BAnd the truth is, the most successful people, they're not making more decisions, they're actually making fewer decisions.
Speaker BAnd because they're making fewer decisions, they are making better decisions.
Speaker BWhen I think of that, I always think of Steve Jobs.
Speaker BAnd I am trying to Steve Jobs my closet currently with my color palette.
Speaker BIf you have not gotten your color analysis done, go hit up Kaylee Lambert at Kaylie Lambert Styling.
Speaker BBut I am trying to Steve Jobs my closet because I want to get ready every single day.
Speaker BI want to show up as the best version of myself.
Speaker BAnd right now, my closet is a little overwhelming for me.
Speaker BAnd so I'm trying to Steve Jobs my closet.
Speaker BSo that is one less decision that I have to make in the day because I don't want me getting ready to be a detriment to me later on in the day.
Speaker BYou know, you're standing in front of your closet for 15 minutes and you use half of your decision making skills for the whole day.
Speaker BAnd then later on, when I need to make high level decisions, I don't have any energy left.
Speaker BAnd one solution here is to automate what you can.
Speaker BPre plan your meals, create a uniform for workday.
Speaker BSteve Job, your closet.
Speaker BSchedule your top priorities the night before, so there is no thinking in the morning.
Speaker BNow, even if you cut down on decisions, there's still something else keeping you in a loop of busy work that feels productive but actually isn't.
Speaker BAnd that takes you to number two.
Speaker BYou're confusing productive with effective.
Speaker BYou're constantly busy, but nothing actually moves forward.
Speaker BSound familiar?
Speaker BThis can look like you checked 15 things off your list, but none of them actually created momentum.
Speaker BAnd I am raising my hand literally in real life, in real time right now because this was me for so long.
Speaker BI was known as the girl with the legal pad.
Speaker BI had the big legal pad.
Speaker BI had 50 things on my to do list.
Speaker BI was the first one in the office.
Speaker BAnd I started at my list.
Speaker BCheck, check, check, check, check, check, check.
Speaker BI actually scribbled.
Speaker BI have, like, a very unique way of checking things off my List, no big deal.
Speaker BAnd that was literally what I would do from about eight in the morning until five o'clock at night, is I would check things off of my list.
Speaker BAnd unfortunately, even though I was checking things off of my list, I would get to the end of the day or the week or the month, or sadly, sometimes the end of the year, and I would look up and be like, what did I actually get done?
Speaker BLike, I was busy, I was doing things, I was making stressful phone calls, and I am like in the weeds with these things that how are they even my responsibility?
Speaker BBut I wasn't actually making momentum.
Speaker BAnd this can keep you stuck because busyness feels good.
Speaker BChecking off small tasks can give you a dopamine hit.
Speaker BI know when I first learned this, it kind of shocked me because when I think of dopamine hits, I think of like working out or, you know, going to an event or on the negative side, drinking or drugs or nicotine or whatever it is.
Speaker BBut checking things off of your list can give you a dopamine hit as well.
Speaker BAnd the truth is, productivity isn't the goal, Effectiveness is.
Speaker BAnd the highest performers, they aren't doing more, they're doing less but better.
Speaker BAnd so one solution to help you get unstuck from this is to start your day with one clear needle moving task.
Speaker BAnd if you get that one thing done, it can be a win.
Speaker BOne thing.
Speaker BThis might look like getting the laundry to completion.
Speaker BAnd in the closet.
Speaker BI can say this.
Speaker BI think this is a safe space.
Speaker BAnd my husband does not listen to the podcast.
Speaker BPlease don't let this be his first episode he listens to.
Speaker BBut I hope you can relate to this.
Speaker BMy husband is so good at starting the washing machine and that's where he leaves it.
Speaker BAnd so it is a constant struggle in our house to get the laundry done to completion.
Speaker BAnd so sometimes that is my one thing.
Speaker BBut it moves the needle.
Speaker BIt is a clear needle moving task.
Speaker BAnd if I can sometimes get that one thing done, my day's a win.
Speaker BI literally, I'm like, I one today.
Speaker BOkay, so it can be something so small as long as it moves the needle.
Speaker BBut even if you know what to focus on, there's still one big thing that might be stopping you from actually moving forward.
Speaker BAnd that takes us to number three.
Speaker BYou're stuck in waiting mode without realizing it.
Speaker BYou think you're preparing, you think you're researching or planning, but you're actually just waiting.
Speaker BI talked about this a couple of episodes ago, where especially us high achieving women, we love to call ourselves perfectionist.
Speaker BAnd I, I do too.
Speaker BBecause perfectionist sounds really good.
Speaker BIt sounds really high level.
Speaker BLike she is a perfectionist.
Speaker BShe is going to execute at the highest level.
Speaker BBut really, perfectionism is us just putting a cute little pink bow with white polka dots on our procrastination box.
Speaker BIt is just us waiting for the right time.
Speaker BThe right time to start the business, to launch the offer, to call the friend, to hire help, to clean out the closet.
Speaker BAnd this keeps you stuck.
Speaker BBecause perfectionism is just the disguise for readiness or procrastination or whatever it is.
Speaker BAnd the truth is, clarity does not come from waiting.
Speaker BIt comes from action.
Speaker BYou can't think your way into confidence.
Speaker BYou have to do your way into confidence.
Speaker BAnd so one solution to this is to take one uncomfortable action today.
Speaker BBecause imperfect action beats perfect hesitation every single time.
Speaker BSo to recap, three things that might be keeping you stuck.
Speaker BDecision fatigue.
Speaker BIt's slowing you down.
Speaker BYou need to simplify and automate.
Speaker B2.
Speaker BProductivity isn't the goal.
Speaker BEffectiveness is.
Speaker BAnd 3.
Speaker BStop waiting.
Speaker BMomentum comes from action.
Speaker BIf this hits home for you and you know you need better systems to free up your time, energy and focus, I have got something coming up for you and it is going to be so exciting.
Speaker BI am rolling out my new company this month and it is for high achievers ready to create systems that make success feel effortless.
