I'm saying some people charge, but we prefer to give the gospel free of charge. Boom. So there's that. Put that on a t shirt. We might. We give the gospel free of charge. Sign up for our Patreon by giving to our church. Hey, how did women's Bible study go? I heard good things about it. Kristen texted me and said it was really good as per the usual. No, I heard good things from my wife as well about it. I haven't gotten a chance to listen to it myself yet, but you listen to her sermons. Sometimes I do. Yeah. Do you take notes? Yeah. I feel like as the lead pastor of our church, I should have a general understanding of what's going on in the church. That's a good idea. I walk through her manuscript and everything with her before she goes up there. So I know what she's going to How many pages is her manuscript? I'm Listen, man, I'm not going to sell my wife out. I'm not throwing her under the bus. We're not selling out anybody. She told everybody that was in earshot. It was a circle of trust. That was how it, that was trying to blow it up. I'm not blowing it up. I'm just asking the question. Yeah. No inquiring minds want to know. She launched Ephesians though. And she's doing a great job. She was talking about our adoption and the significance of our adoption for those ladies as daughters of God. And Ephesians quite well, cause you just went through it with the youth, not long. I went through it faster than she probably will. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because I was doing high level. Yeah. Yeah. I didn't do that with the gospel of Matthew so far. I've been taking it much too slow They wouldn't finish the gospel of Matthew until they all graduated at this point. So we're gonna speed it up hey speaking of gospels, we're gonna finish the gospel of john by the end of may is that right? And listen, this is god's providence. You ready for this? I'm ready. Okay, so The chapter or the section on the crucifixion is going to fall on Good Friday. I know we talked about this, that it was going to be just off, but I rearranged things believable. So we're going to hit the crucifixion on Good Friday and then surprise the resurrection on Easter Sunday. No way. Yep. It's going to happen. I am. Slack jawed. Yep. Yeah. You should not be. My flabber has been gasted. Okay, I don't even know. I don't know what to do with that. Men's Bible study on Saturday though. We are kicking off a brand new series. Oh, yeah. Qualified. That's right. We're going to talk about what it is to be a qualified man for the office of elder. Even though we're not expecting every man to be a pastor slash elder, we do want every man to be qualified for the role of pastor. Because it's the kind of character that we want to inculcate and encourage in our ranks. Inculcate. That's an SAT word for you, by the way. That's right. Yeah. I'll drop them every now and then boom, might drop to, and then just walk away. Yeah. How about our men's retreat? Do you want to give a little preview of what that's going to be on? Yes. We're calling it. Uncompromised. And so essentially we're looking at a retreat. That's going to focus on integrity, and a few key areas. And I'm debating whether or not I want to tell you what those areas are, although you probably could guess, but we want to make this something awesome. So we're already working on some things to give away, which I think you're going to I just submitted an order for those things. And. And we're actively working toward that already setting up some of the major pieces, but this is going to be something I'm really excited about. This is an area that every man will benefit from an area that every man probably struggles in one way, shape, or form at some point in his life. This will be well worth your time. Yeah. In fact, on Saturday, I had my son Jonathan at his basketball game and the coach, I appreciated this before the game. He said, Hey. Does anybody know what our word of the day is? And I'm like pulling out my wordle thinking, okay, maybe it's, he's going to give me the answer on wordle, but he does a word of the day with these young men as he's coaching them basketball. And he said, our word of the day is integrity. And so he said, do you guys know what integrity is? And these eight year olds are sitting there No, we have no idea. So he was talking about how it's correlated or related to honesty. And and so that's what he chose to emphasize on their honesty and the things that we do, our work ethic, everything else. So yeah, this is going to be a great topic. It's good for eight year olds. It's good for eight year olds. It's good for everybody in between too. So yeah, there's, in fact, we should probably tell you when the dates are for that so that you could earmark them in your calendar so that you don't miss them. Yes. Cause that'd be tragic. That would be tragic. And it's may. May 1st. It's in May. I'm gonna tell you right now. It's in May. It's May and it's gonna be May 16th and 17th. That's what it is Friday and a Saturday. We'll leave on Friday. We'll have one night there We're gonna be back at Mount Lebanon Baptist Camp such a good place It was a great place and I can't wait to get back there again Hopefully the weather's a little better this year, but we're gonna be there again, May 16th and 17th. Please mark it in your calendars We would love to have Every single one of you there. Yep. Hey, even our ladies are going back to Mount Lebanon. Is that right? They're going to Mount Lebanon. For the first time. Because of how good it was. It was just awesome. So good. They do a great job down there. And it's close enough. It's close enough because you know how I know this? Because last year I left my laptop there and I had to drive down there on Sunday morning, right before church. So it's only about an hour away from our church. I know that to be true. Wow. On a Sunday. You got there pretty quick. Yeah, I did. Yeah. Yeah. Anyways. Hey, let's jump into our text. Exodus 13 and 13 through 15. Yeah. 13 through 15. Exodus 13. We've got the initial exit from Egypt behind us now. So Moses gathers the people to deliver further instructions from the Lord. And then he says, And he tells them how they were to redeem the firstborn and act and act remembering how God had delivered the firstborn from the plague of the firstborn that they had just happened as we talked about yesterday. And also explained again, the way that they were to go about remembering and celebrating the Passover. So he's gathering the people together. He's reinforcing these things. He's saying, you just saw what the Lord did. Now it's time. You're going to have to redeem the firstborn. You're going to have to remember these things and consecrate the firstborn yourself in a symbolic act there. Super close note. Exodus 13, 3, 9, 14, and 16. The repeated phrase for by a strong hand, the Lord brought you out from this place. That is is something that is, is easy to miss because we can read through Exodus 13 and we can read that repeated phrase. All those different times. And if we're not looking for repetition, we might miss the significance of that. So Moses wants them to be absolutely clear. In fact, this is, was a cool moment. Just as a dad last night, as we're recording this, so Friday night I was putting my son Luke to bed and he was sitting in his bed and he had his notebook out, he likes to write in it and he had written some questions down and one of the questions he wrote was, why did God use Moses? To deliver the people from Israel. And we talked about that. I said why, what questions do you have? Why wouldn't he use Moses? And he said Moses murdered a man. And we talked about how he was defending the Israelite and everything there. But the point is, and I think it's here as well. Moses wanted the people to know this as well, that Moses wasn't the hero. Moses wasn't the deliverer. Moses was. Just simply the guy that God used, but God is the one that gets the glory. For by a strong hand, the Lord brought you out from this place. Moses wanted them to be abundantly clear on that. When we talk about our church and the victories that we have as a church, that's something that we want to be clear on as well. God is the one building the church unless the Lord builds it. Those who labor build it in vain. So we are not the heroes of the story. We are not the heroes of the church. God is the one that's doing it. Exodus 13, 9, 14 and 16 that repeated phrase. Also notice in verse five, the focus on the land. The land is the reference to the Abrahamic covenant in the words which he swore to your forefathers to give to you. So God is promising them the land as well there in in Exodus chapter 13, and you are having too much fun with this Instagram live situation. I'm sorry man. I'm just, okay. I'm back here. Were you validating that I had coffee in my mug and not something nefarious? We want to know what's in there. The people want to know, bro. I'm just doing, I'm a man of the people. I'm doing what they want me to do. It's coffee. It's coffee. Okay. Anyways, verses 17 through 22 then. The Lord is not going to abandon them once they're out of Egypt. It's not hey, good luck. See you later. And again, there's a, this is a microcosm of salvation, right? The Lord delivers us from our sin and then he stays with us and he's going to lead us, he's going to guide us. He's going to work for our Christ likeness. And so here it's not that, that he's working towards their Christ likeness, but he's not going to abandon his people. It's not Hey, I got you out of slavery. Good luck. He's going to lead them on the way, and he's going to do that by night and by day. And it's going to be the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. In the rest of chapter 13 there, anything on chapter 13, it's a really good chapter. That's insightful. I've got all the insights. I'm only half paying attention because I'm now so fascinated with what we're doing here. Social media the ones and ones of people that are watching. I just, I feel so obligated to care for them and I just want to show them around as well. I'm sure they would love to see what you're doing at the same time. So you don't have a coffee mug or anything. I have nothing fun over here. All right. Chapter 14. Pastor, why don't you take chapter 14 for us? I'm not prepared. Okay. This chapter is about the crossing of the red seat. Does that jog your memory there? I see it. I'm looking at it on the page. All right, the first 14 verses of chapter 14, they set up the tension and then after this God is going to work through this deliverance. So the first 14 verses that they're getting to the Red Sea, they know, okay, nobody's expecting the seat apart here, right? We know the story, but they didn't know the story. And so nobody at this point is sitting there going, okay, Moses is going to, part the Red Sea and all Pharaoh's army is going to do the dead man float after we crossed through on dry land. And Oof. Nobody's expecting this. And so they're panicked. God says, Hey, here's what I want you to do. I want you to drive them forward and hold out your staff and the water's going to part. And he sends a wind to drive the water back. And this is a miraculous event, not just a windstorm because the ground is dry as they walk across it. And no matter how strong the wind may have been at number one, to drive the water back in different directions, you're not going to find natural wind. That's going to blow two directions at the same time. And then number two, the fact that the ground is dry, I don't care how strong the storm is. It's not going to dry that quickly. And right after this, then when Pharaoh's army goes in their wheels and everything else, they get caught in the mud. So This is a God thing that he does to deliver the heart, to deliver the people. He's going to do a lot of that here. He's going to remind the people that he is God, that he's the one behind all this, so as to encourage them and not to let them grow weary or frightened. Speaking of behind, in verse 19, it says that the angel of God, who is going before the host of Israel, Moved in, went behind them. It's I couldn't help, but think of the shepherd analogy in Psalm 23, he goes before us, he goes beside us, he goes behind us, he's chasing this down with mercy and grace all the days of our lives. I love this image of God circling them about as it were to ensure that they get across safely. And they seem to get the point. This is one of the high points in Israel's history, not only in the salvific events, but also in their response. I don't want to steal your thunder in there, but they respond really well to this. Yeah. Yeah, which is chapter 15, the song that they sing, the song of praise, and it just rejoices in everything that God has done there. One more note in chapter 14, notice in verse 14 and verse 25 verse 14, the Lord will fight for you. And then again, in verse 25, it says, the Egyptian said, let us flee from Israel for the Lord fights for them and think back to the changing of Jacob's name to the name Israel. The name Israel again can mean fights with God or God fights. And if the emphasis is on God fights then here we see that God is fighting for Israel. God is fulfilling the name of his people by fighting for them. Something that even the Egyptians know. But yeah, chapter 15 they create a song. They begin to praise God for his deliverance and In anticipating even not just the deliverance, but that they're going to see that the promise land, and this is a high point but it's not going to stay a high point for long. Unfortunately, as we'll see mostly in tomorrow's Episode but a little bit here at the end of chapter 15, but this also Tells us that the nations took note of this, too Now there was no instagram live during the exodus and so they couldn't go on just like we are right now and say hey Listen up. This is the god of israel doing this but news traveled news of pharaoh's defeat And the nations, the Philistines, the others began to tremble and fear the Israelites, which is part of what God was doing to prepare the entrance. You'll remember. And we'll get there when Joshua and the sends out the spies and they come to Rahab. Rahab knows about Israel. How does Rahab know about Israel? Because they know. This situation the deliverance that God had worked for the people of Israel had been broadcast whether it's through this song or through other Situations and the nation's knew that God fought for his people. What do we do with the fact that Deborah's called a prophetess? Sorry, not Deborah Miriam. That's a different prophet. Miriam at the bottom of chapter 15 verse 20, then Miriam, the prophet is the sister of Aaron took a tambourine in her hand. And with all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing and Miriam sang to them. So Miriam gets a little bit of a head nod here in that she's doing something similar to what Moses is doing. We know that there's going to be issues between the three of them later. There's going to be some jealousy there. But the wording about calling her a prophet is that seems I don't know. That seems like a bit much. Yes, except that This is not The only situation we have in the old testament of god using A woman in a position that is unique you think forward to Deborah as you mentioned and in others This is at the same time not the church right and so we would draw a distinction and say that she is not serving as a this is not Some people will appeal to this and be like look we should have women pastors because miriam was a prophet totally But this is not the church And the instructions that are given to the church are separate and distinct from those that were governing this particular dispensation in the, during the history of the people of God. I think it's also telling that still the leader that got entrusted, the leaders that God put in place were the men and the, they were the ones that were called to fulfill the role that God had for them. But I think we, we're, Playing on two different fields, when we try to look at Old Testament examples and draw the parallel to New Testament offices and say, because this Old Testament example exists, we should say that there's room for it in the New Testament when the New Testament is the church. And there are different, there are superseding instructions given in the New Testament that specifically speak to the role of women and men within the church and where authority lies. That's a really helpful insight. And I just want to draw one to point your attention to, and it's that Moses wrote a song to commemorate what they were doing. He sang he led them to sing they were all in unison as it were singing to the Lord saying look at what God Has done he deserves our songs This is one of the reasons we still sing in our churches today Even though there is some discontinuity between the Old and New Testament There is continuity and one of the things is that we sing we are singing people and it's because God has saved them That's why they sing and consequently Salvation acts warrant our heart Hardy responds in song to the Lord, which is why again, we still sing today and why it's so important. It's commemorated in scripture It's acknowledged. It's one way to honor the Lord and that's why you should be at church tomorrow Wait, what day is today tomorrow as we record so you guys be at church tomorrow. That's right This is for the instagram live people which is why you should go to church on sunday and sing heartily and show up on time I know sometimes it's hard to get out the door i'm not immune to having those difficult days of putting people in the van or whatever You But being there and showcasing to your family and your church family that this is worth your time and attention Such a good thing to do and it's again biblically prescribed as part of the people of god. Yep. Yeah, I agree Exodus 15 verses 22 through 27 then the chapter ends This is the first post exodus account of the people grumbling against moses. And so the high point Is not high for very long because now they're going to say we don't have any water and there's no water to drink So moses, what are you doing? You should have left us in egypt. There was how quickly things have turned Yeah, how quick yeah, although it is interesting because we don't know exactly The time frame that's passing 13 minutes 13. Okay. That's my guess. Your bible has a note that mine doesn't have Is that the one that the press and sprinkle wrote? What if he listens to our podcast what are you going to do about that? He can reach out to me. I'll talk to him. All right, press and hit me up I'll talk to you. Let me tag them for you right now. Awesome. Great. And so Moses goes to God. God says, here's what I'm going to do. And God is patient right now. And he's going to continue to be patient with his people for a good amount of time. God is a long suffering God. He is slow to anger. His anger is going to come, but he's going to be slow to anger. Responds and gives them this water from the the, by throwing a rock into the stream there, or a log rather into the stream there. But then he challenges them with this conditional promise. And he says, look, I'm going to be your healer. I'm going to be God, your healer, if you obey me, but if not. You know what? You're going to suffer the plagues that had befallen the Egyptians. And one author said, it's a note here that he doesn't say I'm going to heal the water, but I'm going to heal you because the issue was not so much that the water was had a problem, but their heart had a problem. And so God is saying to his people, Hey, I'm going to be with you as your healer spiritually speaking. But here's what I'm asking of you. You need to obey. You need to listen. You need to be committed to me in that. And if you don't, then men buckle up because bad things are gonna happen. All right, let's pray. And then we'll be done with this episode. God, thanks for your word. Thanks for just the clarity. We do thank you for song. It's something that in the new Testament we're commanded to do. We're commanded to sing spiritual songs to one another in hymns. And that is something that we need to do corporately. That is even the context of Colossians three, this is to one another. And so if we are not participating in that and the body of Christ, then we are not Participating in something that you've designed for us and called us to do if we're not prioritizing that because we don't think it's as Important as another part of the service and then we are missing A vital component of the spirit's work in our lives is the body of christ So god, I pray that we would have the wherewithal to see it as what it is as important as crucial as integral And even that we would desire it because how often are we going through our day and a song pops in our mind? And how good would it be to have that song be one that we sing together on Sunday? That song to be one that we are hearing the voices of our brothers and sisters in Christ in our head as we're singing through it together. So God, we want to do everything we do as a church with Vibrancy and passion and drive and so we ask that would be true of our body at compass And so we thank you for this in christ's name. Amen. Amen Keep reading bibles tuning in again tomorrow for another edition of the daily bible podcast. See you then folks. Bye. Bye
