The top public safety story to start Wednesday is a swath of strong damaging wind across parts of the Inland Northwest and the Pacific Northwest, with National Weather Service warnings and advisories calling out gusts strong enough to bring down trees and power lines and create difficult travel, especially for high profile vehicles.

If you're in the warned areas, secure loose outdoor items now, plan for possible power outages and use extra caution on exposed roads and passes.

Meanwhile, the US Geological Survey continues to log routine small earthquakes across the west in the past day, including events in Southern California.

Let's run through the states.

California USGS monitoring shows routine small earthquakes recorded in California over the last day, including activity in the Big Bear Lake area, Idaho.

For North Idaho, the National Weather Service includes portions of the region in the same high wind setup affecting the Inland Northwest, with warnings calling out gusts capable of downing trees and power lines and making travel hazardous.

In Oregon, the National Weather Service is highlighting a wind event today with high wind warnings in parts of Northeast Oregon calling for gusts strong enough to bring down trees and power lines and make travel difficult, especially for trucks, RVs and other high profile vehicles.

Farther west, NWS Portland is also messaging wind timing and gust potential across Northwest Oregon.

Washington is under the same active wind pattern today with NWS products calling out high wind warnings and related advisories in parts of Southeast Washington and the Blue Mountain foothills, conditions that can down trees and power lines and and create hazardous driving.

In addition, winter weather advisories are posted in parts of North Central Washington with accumulating snow and travel impacts possible into the morning commute in some areas.

All other states have no significant updates in the last 24 hours.
