Welcome to the Peak Revival podcast.
Vesna:My name is Vesna Hersto.
Vesna:And today I want to talk about why you have the same goals, the same failures,
Vesna:and you're still the same you and the identity trap that's keeping you stuck.
Vesna:Okay, so maybe
Vesna:We're into the year, and you may look back on your New Year's goals, or
Vesna:maybe it's the same goals you had last year that you still haven't achieved.
Vesna:Maybe it's in your personal health, in your business, in your
Vesna:personal life and your aspirations.
Vesna:So in this video, I really want to talk about what is keeping you stuck?
Vesna:Because we always look at the how to, the strategies, the steps,
Vesna:what we need to do, the behaviors and the actions that we need to take.
Vesna:But there's something even more kind of high level than that.
Vesna:And it is a
Vesna:shift in your identity which is absolutely required in order for
Vesna:you to reach your goals and get to wherever you want to get to.
Vesna:So right now, you have two identities.
Vesna:The current identity or the present identity that you would relate to and
Vesna:that you know very well is, you know, if I was to ask you, how do you see yourself?
Vesna:How would you describe yourself?
Vesna:And for most people, we would describe what we do for work where
Vesna:do we live what do we enjoy?
Vesna:Who is in our family?
Vesna:What's our background?
Vesna:Etc.
Vesna:Okay.
Vesna:And so the present you is the one that you would see in your mind all the time.
Vesna:the second identity is what you desire.
Vesna:So wherever you would love to see yourself in any of your goals,
Vesna:that creates a second identity.
Vesna:Again, so going back to your New Year's goals, or even if you see your
Vesna:daily frustrations, that you want to be different in your relationship,
Vesna:maybe in your financial situation.
Vesna:Maybe you dream of doing something bigger, maybe you see someone
Vesna:out there doing something and you think, oh, I would love to do that.
Vesna:Right?
Vesna:from your desires, begins a second identity.
Vesna:Now, what I mean by that is that if you want to achieve your goals, whatever it
Vesna:is, you need to shift your identity from the present day one, from that first
Vesna:identity, and claim your second identity.
Vesna:because if you can't see it kind of in your mind's eye doing the things that
Vesna:you wrote down as a goal to do, and that you want to do, that you desire to do.
Vesna:If you can't see yourself doing that, if you can't see yourself
Vesna:being that person, you will not create and achieve that goal okay?
Vesna:You have to be able to see it in your mind's eye.
Vesna:You have to be able to see yourself doing whatever it is that person
Vesna:is doing that maybe you looked at and think, I would love to do that.
Vesna:You would have to be able to see yourself doing that in order for you to do it.
Vesna:So, it's not about how do you do it, it's about creating that identity shift
Vesna:to see yourself doing it and to really be immersed in that second identity
Vesna:and the how to comes after that.
Vesna:So the first identity and the second are in conflict, So the first
Vesna:identity, the one that is the present day moment, you may have been living
Vesna:in that identity for 20, years, okay?
Vesna:So that is like solid identity.
Vesna:It feels unbreakable.
Vesna:It feels like that's who you are.
Vesna:if that was me, that would be, that's Vesna.
Vesna:That's what she can do.
Vesna:That's what she's capable of because of my identity over
Vesna:the past, you know, 40 years.
Vesna:Whereas the second identity is fresh.
Vesna:It's new.
Vesna:It's where we desire to be.
Vesna:So we have to look at, they're in total conflict, right?
Vesna:So where do you spend your time Is it in your first identity or your second?
Vesna:Where is the mental space?
Vesna:What language do you use day to day, To show where you're headed versus
Vesna:where you've come from, right?
Vesna:We always want to speak to where we want to head to.
Vesna:Where do you focus?
Vesna:Where is your intention?
Vesna:How often do you focus on your intention to shift in that
Vesna:identity, to really claim, a much more powerful version of yourself.
Vesna:So we're going to talk about this in relation to health
Vesna:and even life goals, right?
Vesna:So when I see clients who have been stuck in a chronic health situation,
Vesna:they really identify with it.
Vesna:So I've seen people in chronic.
Vesna:who their whole life is based around it, right?
Vesna:They talk about it.
Vesna:They control their environment to a crazy amount of degrees, like
Vesna:sleeping in the car to avoid the refrigerator, emitting something, right?
Vesna:I've heard some crazy things over the years.
Vesna:And so, you know, They do a lot of things in order to manage it.
Vesna:So they've really identify with their illness and with where they're at.
Vesna:Right?
Vesna:So if, if I'm putting all my energy and my focus and my mental space and
Vesna:my language into managing my current environment, guess where I'm going to be
Vesna:in 12 months or in 12 years, I'm going to be in the same environment, right?
Vesna:I'm going to be in the same situation.
Vesna:I'm going to be in exactly the same position, right?
Vesna:So I also see this with people with other health goals or even weight.
Vesna:They get stuck in their weight, right?
Vesna:So they tell fat jokes about themselves.
Vesna:They're always seeing themselves the same.
Vesna:They're seeing, they identify themselves as somebody who's lazy, who doesn't have
Vesna:discipline, who can't follow through.
Vesna:Okay.
Vesna:So that becomes their identity.
Vesna:That's bit, that's the person that they see in their mind's eye.
Vesna:So in order to shift those habits, And, behaviours that
Vesna:control our health as well.
Vesna:We really need to identify with that second person.
Vesna:The person that we desire to become based on what we want to
Vesna:resolve or what we want to create.
Vesna:So if I want to create a healthy body, I have to, in my mind, I
Vesna:see myself as a healthy person.
Vesna:I have to claim that.
Vesna:I have to claim it right now even if I'm not healthy.
Vesna:Okay?
Vesna:And when you make that claim, you also make the claim or reclaim
Vesna:your ability to follow through.
Vesna:Your ability to take action and to, you know, always stay focused on your goal.
Vesna:So you have to see yourself as that person.
Vesna:I really hope this is making sense.
Vesna:So this is before you even take any action.
Vesna:There has to be a visual image of yourself in your mind of being
Vesna:that second identity, being the person that you really want to be.
Vesna:Because I can guarantee you, your desires, your dreams, the things
Vesna:that you want, are available to you.
Vesna:And some would say they're available to you right now and that it already
Vesna:exists in another dimension of some kind.
Vesna:Okay, if we talk about quantum physics, they would say that identity
Vesna:of you, that result that you want, it already exists for you today.
Vesna:So maybe it's not your health, maybe you're stuck in the same job, maybe
Vesna:you want to change a career, start a business, write a book, travel, get
Vesna:into a relationship, whatever it is.
Vesna:But there is a version of you that's stuck in this first identity that, carries
Vesna:that into your interactions at work, that carries that into a dating environment and
Vesna:into your relationships, and it kind of spreads out through all areas of our life.
Vesna:So in order to change that, we need to change that identity.
Vesna:We need to be reminding ourselves of where we want to step into.
Vesna:We want to be focused on that.
Vesna:We want to see it, right?
Vesna:Even if we have to visualize it intentionally for ourselves every
Vesna:morning, we want to see it and we want to be careful of our thoughts
Vesna:and the language that we use.
Vesna:Which is okay sometimes.
Vesna:It's not that easy to catch our thinking but it certainly is
Vesna:to catch your language, right?
Vesna:Because, you know, I believe language is one of the most powerful things
Vesna:of how we create our life, okay?
Vesna:And so if you see yourself putting yourself down or the language that
Vesna:you use is still stuck in this current identity, it's going to be, you're going
Vesna:to be unable to shift in that new one.
Vesna:So when it comes to healing that you create or don't create, it really
Vesna:depends on who you think you are.
Vesna:if you think you are powerless or victimized or this small little
Vesna:ego in a body running around, okay, you're not going to get very far.
Vesna:But if you want to reclaim that powerful, stronger, disciplined,
Vesna:healthy, vital version of yourself that has the confidence to follow
Vesna:through on whatever you decide, then that's what you have to claim now.
Vesna:So there are things that happen in our life with past trauma or things
Vesna:as they come up which absolutely need to be addressed, right?
Vesna:But you don't want to claim that identity.
Vesna:So for example, people who have been sexually abused, people who have been the
Vesna:child of a bad divorce, people who are widows, whatever it is, I don't want to
Vesna:minimize these things, but I also, there comes a point where you want to reclaim
Vesna:a much more powerful version of yourself that is not stuck in that identity.
Vesna:And I can guarantee you, if you're listening to this, that
Vesna:is already what you crave, okay?
Vesna:So as the, as the year is kind of, we're going through the year and it's
Vesna:going to go fast, I want you to think about what you set your intention of,
Vesna:maybe at the beginning of the year, maybe it was an intention last year.
Vesna:Look at where there needs to be an identity shift.
Vesna:Who is the person that needs to execute on those goals?
Vesna:What does that look like?
Vesna:What are they doing every day?
Vesna:Right?
Vesna:Really visualize that person as you.
Vesna:That is your second identity that is already there waiting for you.
