Yes. I gotta tell like that weather, it just reminds me of Syracuse weather, which Syracuse, upstate New York is like Wes est, capital of the US and we'll have snow, we'll have cold weather in April and as long ass may, but like I don not expect Arizona to be in that same level of weather.

I know a lot of people when they hear that, like we do get like some seasons in the town where I live in are like, what? You live in Arizona? I'm like, no, we get snow and it's not a lot like, trust me, it's two or three times a year that it actually sticks. But yeah, we have a little bit of seasons, but I'm not in Phoenix. I'm up in the northern part of the state, so. It's not all, it's still desert, but it's not all like 120 degrees. Like our summers are like nineties, hundreds, not 120 plus. No thank you. Done with that. Ugh.

And alligators for the reader, listener who's listening, I got a notice from a building, and I shared this with Amy, that my building, my neighborhood, there was some alligators, sighting, and there's a couple alligators, so not just one. thread the whole, the series. So we were lucky enough to receive arcs by for the big beautiful light as an audio and as physical copy. Don't call the Arc police because there was some conversation on threats about people getting, we should talk about that. Oh,

threats and successful for drama and rage baiting. So a few weeks ago, this girl. Decided that because arcs were sent out to influencers in the Berkeley influencer program, that some people who are no longer, who are no longer in the influencer program, were receiving those arcs illegally from their friends and she started doxing these people and say you have this illegally, I'm gonna email the publisher. I'm going email the staff. Only alerted me from the art police is coming to you.

Yeah, she took the time to look back on stuff and see oh, so and so complained that they weren't a part of Berkeley anymore. So, but how are they reading this book? And we're talking about e arcs, by the way. We're not talking about coveted physical arcs. We're talking about ebook arcs. And this girl decided to make a troll account. To go and like you said, be the ARC police and it was the most unhinged, crazy thing I've seen in the book world in quite a while. And there's always unhinged crazy. That was rough. I was

is even happening? We're talking about a dang ebook, m hen arc are you serious right now? How about read a book, touch some grass? Like I can't even,

And I hate to break it to the, our listeners who are involved in the influencer world. In the Berkeley world, Berkeley sends arcs at random times to a lot of people. They may deny you on Ned Galley and I, and it's a pretty common status. They deny everyone galley. But they have a list of influencers, blogs, media, and specific. Amy and I both are on those list. List. We're in other lists, and we get sent the same books. We get sent. Physical books we get sent and then we also have access. 'cause we're both in this world. We have access to the audio version of it too. And that's a separate group. And so there's multiple ways to get an arc. It's not just one way. If you're an influencer, that's the only way. It does not. It does not. We're not an influencer program and we get the.

I got kicked out this year, so of their main Berkeley program, which is fine because like you said I have relationships with different publicists. I get emails at least multiple times a week for

of stuff. Like they're pretty generous with ERCs. I think once you've been in the space for a while and

those relationships, you can get. The eBooks. So for this girl to act like it was so unheard of, like they never do it besides the influencer program, it's like you don't even know what you're talking about. And not to mention, they do have books on Idle Vice too.

figured that little hack out and was like, this is the best thing ever. Like I thought it was great to read it on publication day or be like first or second in Vine. And then some libraries will let you request books and you could a ask them to buy the titles and yeah, so that's a whole thing you can do too. And that is free. You don't have to apply for anything. It's just library. I don't know. People are way too crazy about get a library card, get multiple library cards. It's really fun.

Yes, and it's free. It's like you're actually saving money and we're on an inflation, we're on recession happening, so this is a great place to get free books and it does.

It's hard to say without spoiling too much, but it was just not, the romance was not romancing for me, and I know that it's been said that this isn't her typical romance, and I'm okay with that. I read a lot of books that are more like women's fiction or just plaino contemporary fiction with a romance side plot, but this one was just so flat. did not feel chemistry. I don't know if you noticed this or if I talked to you about this, but she talked about how tall they were every time they sat at a table

He was asking I think she asked the guy, do you date people from five three or less? Because the little short pixie girl, I'm like, but like, how does this make sense?

I, who cares? I don't care how tall they're, and their knees bump every time they sit at a table together, first of all. I mean, we heard that like 10 times. It was ridiculous. And then there was like this historical piece where there are two writers and they're fighting for the same job to write this lady, this famous lady's or whatever, memoir yes,

But Hugo, like it's.

That's an insult to say that it was Evelyn Hugo. They wish they could be Evelyn Hugo. And it was boring and they went way back. So they went way back to like her distant relatives. It's not even her life. And I'm like, why are we talking about her great grandparents and their journeys and all this? And it was very boring. And then we would switch back to present day and it was like a lot of push and pull between them and not the good kind of tension and push and pull, the annoying type where it was like, okay. Just figure it out or out. Like I didn't, the banter wasn't as good. It was a little bit there in parts, but it wasn't like, that's what I love about her books. The banter is usually so good. And I saw someone say they're a knockoff January and Gus, and that sums it up the best for me. Like they wanted to be them so badly and

Yeah, the Timo. Yes, exactly. And then I kept thinking in the end, everything would tie together and there was this big thing that happened, but it was not worthwhile to me.

I felt like I wasted a lot of time for such a lackluster revelation, I guess I could say in the end. And I was just super disappointed and was like, I mean, you got to talking and we were like, there's so many other books that are better.

where this, that's why we're here. Because my bad review of her book is not gonna matter at all. She's doing just fine. Doing just fine without, without my endorsement. So I'm like, well, why don't we talk about these books that maybe need a little bit of help? I'd rather put my name behind that, then worry about my review for great, big, beautiful disaster is probably what it should have been called.

Yeah, I. I think the first two hours and I was like, I noticed some issues, but I really did not like this. The historical fiction part of it, and it has to, I'm not a historical fiction girly, like I don't like dual timelines. I don't even like dual timelines. The second chance I'm like, no, I wanna be a present girl kind of person. I don't like the past. It's just not my thing. And it, if it's a past, it needs to be like Evelyn Hugo. There's like a juicy gossipy.

Something along okay, I wanna know. But this was just like, what am I hearing about this lady? I'm like, I thought she was a tabloid darling. I'm like, give me the gossip. Give me like the juicy, like stuff. But this was just like,

juicy, I didn't think.

yeah, why are we talking to this lady? Like she doesn't have anything interesting other than she's been hiding. But that's not interesting and that's rich. I'm like, no, I want some like I want some like celebrity sparkling, or I want something that's just

salacious, something juicy like you said, like something that's Ooh, that'll keep me invested

And that it was definitely missing that piece. So

But Julia does a great job, but Julia does a great job narrating so.

great. Yeah, she's great. And I credit her for even finishing, but like I said, I kept thinking like, well, she's gonna tie this all together. And then it was like, and she did it, and then it was like this weird epilogue too that was like, really fast and you're just like, what in the heck just happened? I don't know. The whole thing was just kind of jarring and it did not, it just didn't feel like her books, honestly. It really didn't, I don't know if it was like a rush job or, I don't know. It just, it felt really. Like a big departure from her normal books, because I have enjoyed every single one of her other books, some more than others, but I have liked them.

All right. Well let's talk about books that deserve Better Love and Big Beautiful Life, or however the book is called. Let's talk about Some Action. These books released this year, so you should be able to get them from the bookstore or get them from the library. You might have to do, but, and I'll give you a backlist recommendation from last year's. Awesome. Another author. And these authors, you can actually have backlist so you can binge on except one of them. I think it's one that's a debut. But other ones, you have more books to bid on and they're excellent books to deserve more love. So

it's set in New York City and I think it is a mix between Promise Me Sunshine, which I loved. And PSI Hate You, I also loved.

yeah. 'cause there's a grief element. So Bennett, the main character, her ex died and she just can't like, move on. Like

she's trying, but she's in New York and she's like suffering. It's not one of those oh, New York is magical. Everything's going my way Books. It's like she's can't find her place, she's missing her spark. She can't find her passion. So the meet cute was my favorite. I thought it was funny. And it's meet cute loosely. She has this date set up with this guy Henry, and she ends up standing him up. Then they run into each other later and he's oh, you stood me up. don't wanna go into too much more detail. 'cause there's more. And it's funny, but it was cute and unique and Henry is like the biggest cinnamon roll, which I love. So anyways, they decide to be friends. He's gonna help her get her passion back. So they're gonna do something every Saturday in the city to figure out what maybe her passion is. And they do crazy stuff. And so it's friends to lovers and it's a super slow burn as she's working through her grief. But was just so good. If you like books set in the city, like this is perfect and I love those kind of books. I have another one, I think I have two more on my list that are both set in New York, so I love that. But yeah, it was just, it was such a good debut. She had good banter, they had good chemistry. Like I said, it was a slow burn and I don't always love that, but it really made sense for them too.

So this sounds like my 20 12, 20 15 era in New York City where I looking for my passion, looking for something else, getting outside my comfort zone. Because my life was so devastating. I was just like, I would no, like I didn't know what I was gonna do. I was like Sha jobs. I was trying to figure out like what was my meaning? And I was going through emotional turmoil, like not exile, but like emotional grief that I was crying in the subway and I was crying outside. I was like devastating. And I saw a tweet. I saw a TikTok that I think I share and I'll share in the show notes. Basically New Yorker, new Yorkers are kind, they're not nice. They're kind. They'll give you the tissue, they'll leave you in your space. They're not gonna ask you like, oh, how are you feeling? They're like, they will not care about you. They'll let you cry and stuff like that. And then other places are nice. They'll ask you about the stuff, but they're not kind, so

yeah, set in New York, have a devastating breakdown and then try to.

Yeah. It was just, yeah, exactly. I think you'll love this book totally then, because you'll be like, oh my gosh, that was me like.

10, 15 years ago. Yeah. But it was exactly like what you were saying. Like she's emotional, she's a wreck, she just can't find any motivation. And she's just at the end of her rope and she's what does the city even have for me anymore? And like seeing her rediscover that. The author did a great job with that for sure.

Excited and it allows you to have some more New York books. That did not bother us. At least it did. The other New York book that you have did not bother me. 'cause Got it. Right. So these are good recommendations.

And it was just super fun. And

And there's one bucket list article that I actually wanted to do and I did not get to do, and maybe I'll do it someday, which is walk All the Way from Broadway from. The hundred something street all the way to the bottom of the street in one day. 'cause you could totally

love that car. And like the stops that she did. 'cause I used to go, when I live in New York, one of my favorite things to do was to go for walks out of nowhere. Like just have no plan, just

So pretty, I, when they sent me a copy of that, I was like, oh. is beautiful and I like, you know me. I don't keep mini books. I'm selling 'em. That baby is on my shelves. She's too pretty and I love the book too much.

I loved this one. It seems kind of funny to say that I, reading that it was released in the spring and stuff. 'cause I'm like, why wasn't this released in the winter? It is a winter book, but it's, it didn't really matter. I mean,

Alaska and there's a lot of snow and all the elements and there's a lot of outdoor stuff, but it really didn't bother me. Premise here is that she's a romance author. What is her name? Margo, I believe

A really popular, well-known romance author and she is doing a interview with a bookstore Grammar on a live, and someone leaks this secret file. She has called the Happily Never After File because as much as she's a romance author, she doesn't really believe in Happily Ever After. So she changed all the endings and all of her books just for her own personal entertainment. It gets leaked and she gets canceled. Obviously everyone freaks out, but it was just such a funny way to start the book

Being in the romance community too, it's so fun to read about stuff like that happening. Like a dramatic thing that seems like something you hear about on threads. Oh my God, did you hear about the romance author that doesn't believe in love like it was so. And the whole book is one big love letter to romance. Honestly, she plays with every trope you could think of, which was so fun. I mean, you can't make a list of the tropes in this book 'cause they're all there. But my favorite spin on it was only one 10

Yes, that's what I was gonna say. The only one they have to stay more whatcha call, not just a 10. They have to stay in the same sleeping bag and like share contact, like body contact.

it was kind of funny that like his name is Forest like on, and she acknowledges that kinda stuff in there. Like she's in on the joke, she's not trying to be cheesy. So I thought it was really cute and I just. I thought the romance was great. I thought their chemistry was good. All that was fun. But I love the secondary characters in their relationships as well, too. Like her and her sister's relationship was great. Him and his dad, like there was a lot of that secondary stuff going on that was really good. It wasn't just about them.

Yeah, I ate like sister sending her letters and having work for those letters it was like a purpose of you gotta get outta your comfort zone. I'm gonna send you a letter communication. Like she was stranded in Alaska. There's no wifi, there's no communication. And she's like trying to write a mystery novel. And then I was like a novel. So, so. It's like a really fun one. I actually haven't finished. I loved it. I read like 50%, but it, I was, I has been struggle, but I just got the audiobook, so I'm looking forward to finishing it off on.

Kara actually write, Kara writes the best Brooklyn romances. They all set in Brooklyn, but she doesn't set in like the park slope. She setss in like the hidden Brooklyn neighborhoods that like real people live and it's just, they're slow burn. They're so good. You're like, I don't know how this is gonna work. And they always work.

She is the queen of the slowest burn I've ever read in my life. I always say that about her books. And one time I tagged her in a review that was good. Like it was

I was like, this was the slowest of slow birds. And she's basically ha. That's my specialty.

good at it though. And usually that irritates me too. No end. I'm like, just kiss her already. But she does it in such a meaningful way. I don't know if it's because usually her characters are going through so much emotional stuff.

it doesn't make sense for them to jump into a relationship. But with this one, with Lenny her best friend died, so she's like deep in the grief and all that. So it made sense that like she was crying on the subway or crying in public, like she just could not get her life together. So why would she be ready to jump into relationships? So seeing their relationship come together was so cute. And like you said, she does so well with the setting and it's not like the ritzy. neighborhoods. She's it's cute. She just, I don't know. She and I love Miles. He was the sweetest little most tender patient man ever. I thought. Just thought they were so cute together.
